Butterflied shrimp and ribeye with steak butter!
Rae B.

We live in Mineral Wells and there isn't a place that has a good steak. So my husband and I will driver the 45 mins to the lake to Hemmingways for their ribeye! It's AMAZING.. my mouth is watering thinking about it. The location is also something to enjoy. Right on the lake of Possum Kingdom gives such a nice touch to the restaurant. It dark and moody inside but beautiful!

Chicken Fried Chicken

We just moved to this area, and what a gem this place is! The food is incredible as is the service and the views. We went here for lunch on Friday and I had the chicken fried chicken and my wife had the smash burger. Both entrees were magnificent! It was so good we came back that night for dinner and everything was amazing again. The Cajun pasta was out of this world and my top shelf margaritas were as well. They also have a fantastic wine list of quality wines. Great service as well. Incredible place on the lake! Our new watering hole.

Beef tenderloin and baked potatoes! Steak was excellent, perfectly medium rare.

The steaks were perfectly medium rare! Service left a little to be desired. I'm guessing this restaurant does not serve bread with their meals. I like bread or at least crackers with my salad. Our server was inattentive. Don't know the servers name. Tattoos on the right side of her neck, short, young! That's the best I can describe her! Thursday, march 16 . Approximately 6:30 Pm

Been here multiple times and the past few times the bartender Gracie has been amazing. She makes amazing drinks and always has a smile on her face. She recommended us to try the Southwest egg-rolls and wow they were wonderful. On your next visit sit at the bar and enjoy the best bartender in the area. Thanks Gracie for the great hospitality while taking break from the water.

My ESA dog

We came on a Monday not knowing the patio was closed (we're from Lubbock, TX) since we had my dog with me and my boyfriend but they seated us inside since it was 104° outside and they didn't want my dog to get hot. We had very good meal and they provided my dog with free water. My dog was well behaved and we all had a good enjoyable dinner there even with unexpected plans of the patio. We didn't get the names of the 2 ladies who helped us but thank you to them!

Shrimp

Great food, service and atmosphere! We drove over an hour to the lake and this was actually the second place we went. Wish we had found this first. Completely worth a drive and we will go back.

Overpriced for the quality of food you get. Ambiance was great but service was average at best.

We came here after a full day of biking, hiking, and kayaking at Lake Mineral Wells State Park,…read morewhere we were camping (keeping with our tradition of getting Tex-Mex for dinner after such excursions). Taqueria La Estrella has a high ranking, so we came in with high hopes. It's got that typical small town Texas restaurant vibe, and the chips and salsa were great, and you even get your own little personal salsa bowl, which was a nice touch. The margaritas (giant glasses) were also solid. Unfortunately, after that, everything was downhill. The queso was gloop with ground beef mush served on top. The lime chicken cilantro wasn't bad, but it was just very uninspired. We appreciated that there were cooked zucchini and squash on the side, but the chicken itself was really dry and we did not see any cilantro to speak of! The El Tejano was a combo plate that did not showcase much: the hard taco was basically just more slop in a shell and the enchilada was just covered in the queso goop and nothing else. Beans and rice were whatevs. Our daughter's cheese quesadilla kid's plate was as you would expect given the above. Our server was a nice kid, but it was clear that he was new because he didn't really seem like he knew the menu. But he was attentive enough. Anyway, we weren't expecting fireworks in Mineral Well, so this place pretty much lived up to expectations. Three stars.

The rumors are true Rio Brazos Grill is fantastic. Not "good for a small town," not "surprisingly…read moredecent" just flat-out good. The kind of place where it's immediately obvious someone in the kitchen actually knows what they're doing, which already puts it ahead of most restaurants pretending to. The meal starts strong with flash-fried calamari Fresno chilies, sweet chili sauce, balanced heat, and a clean execution. It comes as strips, which feels a little safe. Rings or whole baby squid would've shown more technical confidence, but fine the flavor still delivers, and at the end of the day, that's what people actually remember. The Calabria chili shrimp follows with the same sense of control: spicy, but not trying to prove a point. Paired with grilled baguette, it does exactly what it's supposed to do support the dish instead of getting in the way. And then there's the Chicken Fried Ribeye, which sounds like a bad decision until you eat it. Crispy on the outside, rich and tender underneath, covered in black pepper gravy with buttermilk mashed potatoes, a potato nest, and because apparently restraint is optional--two fried quail eggs. It's excessive, but not stupid. That's a very fine line, and they walk it well. Chef Clint Connaway clearly has classical training--nobody just stumbles into a proper beurre blanc. The menu pulls from Southwestern, Native American, Mexican and French influences, which should feel chaotic but somehow doesn't. It works because the execution is consistent, even when the ideas get a little ambitious. That said, the place isn't perfect. The quail eggs show up so often they start to feel less like a signature and more like a habit. And for all the technical skill, there's a noticeable lack of local identity. With Bosque Ranch right down the road, it's hard not to wonder why more local beef isn't front and center. A stronger focus on seasonal or locally sourced ingredients would push this from great to something more grounded--something that actually tastes like where you are. And then there's the obvious question: why no brunch? A kitchen like this could absolutely dominate a brunch service. Instead, it's just... not happening, which feels like wasted potential. Still, none of that changes the core truth. The food is thoughtful, the technique is real, and most importantly you leave feeling satisfied instead of questioning your life choices. That alone is worth something.

The experience starts with the hostesses who seem to think they are working in a Michelin starred establishment. Then the disappointment moves into the dining experience. Poorly cut steaks, and items you'd find in a Cotton Patch cafe. All at a price point that screams "we are in a hotel in Granbury who thinks it is the Beverly Hilton, just minus the money, service, and accoutrements." The difference being that the restaurants in Beverly Hills actually live up to the expectations, and even they aren't so full of themselves. The experience does not even come close to living up to its price and value proposition. Save yourself the time and drive into Fort Worth or Dallas to dine at a nicer establishment that's worth the money and more in-line with the advertised expectation. We were seated at one the booths for two along the wall overlooking the open kitchen. I intended to order a Manhattan but upon discovering they're pouring Gallo vermouth decided on a Maker's Old Fashioned which was nicely done. Anne went with a glass of an Italian Pinot Grigio. I ordered that as well with my entree. We started with the shrimp ceviche. This is a unique rendering of the dish and quite enjoyable. The portion, however, was surprisingly and remarkably small for $17 even by upscale FTW/Dallas restaurant comparisons. The Caesar salad presentation here is so creative. See my pic. The dressed whole Romaine leaves are arranged in a toasted Parmesan cylinder which you crush up, slicing the leaves yourself to mix. The dressing is excellent. Again the portion is small, especially to share. But the price point is reasonable at just $10. We both opted for the grilled quail. This was the star of the show. The quail were nicely seasoned and perfectly grilled. The mound of crisp, fresh Arugula sang with the most perfect Arugula enhancing vinaigrette we have ever tasted. The poached pear, compressed beets, and seasoned walnuts all complimented so perfectly these grilled birds. So good. If we were locals this would become a regular destination for.
