This was a solid burger place with some unique options. There was nothing fancy, but it was pretty good. I visited on a Friday for lunch. It wasn't real busy, but stayed steady. It's a fast casual type setting....you walk up and order from the menu which is on a few car hoods over the counter. It's a small menu, but interesting. Once you order you are given a fob which buzzes when your meal is ready. I chose the bacon burger...the bacon is chicken fried. It was different, not bad, not really my thing, but I can see how some might love it. The sides were good, several options, including sweet potato fries and fried pickles . The burger itself was good, bun was soft and really good. You add your own toppings to the burger, via a bar in the dining room. They have a full bar and looks like they offer live music at least once a Price point was ok...not cheap, but not outrageous either. I would definitely return. read more

Thursday after 9:00 - not a normal "dinner time" but The Grease Monkey still open for dinner service. Staff were all friendly and cheerful. Menu not large, but covered a lot of standard bar food options with their own unique twists. We all ordered different burgers, fries and onion rings. All were excellent. Properly cooked, juicy and flavorful. Good cheese on my burger, crispy onion rings, fries. Build your own burger at a "salad station" was good - although they had to freshen it up for us. We got there during a lull - by the time we finished our meal, the place was full - even had people out on the patio, as it was a fairly warm night. Well worth seeking out. Went here with my partner after passing by it one day after having a bad experience at another place and this place definitely was much better, my partner had a hair in his food, he told them about it and they did what any restraunt should and not only replaced it but also compd the food....We both got drinks and we actually had two each cause unlike the other place they were served correctly and at a decent price for the size....We definitely will be back, we may even make it our new hangout spot. read more

This is a tricky review to write since my opinion on this location seems to be 100% dependent on the weather and who is working. For all intents and purposes, this is a fantastic gem in a freshly burgeoning area of Arlington. The food is really quite tasty, the prices are very reasonable and for the greater part the staff, especially the bartenders, are accommodating, friendly, and very effective. During the late Fall all the way through early Spring, I love coming here with my friends. However, as the mercury approaches or exceeds 100ºF on a consistent basis, I detest coming here. For me, the going out experience is always about comfort and during the Summer, I definitely want air conditioning. The Grease Monkey has A/C, but for some reason the owners feel that that's a luxury that their customers apparently do not need because they continuously open the glass garage doors which not only lets in the heat and lets out the cool air, it also lets in smoke (from the inconsiderate smokers who, despite city ordinances, insist on smoking far too close to the open doors), bugs, and the occasional bird. In fact, I'm not sure how they are able to do this since it is contrary to §228.174 (e)(4) of the Texas Department of State Health Services Division for Regulatory Service Field Inspection Manual which states that Air Curtains (or some other effective bug-repellent means) are required for any establishment that provides food. If the doors remained closed, and the interior remained a decent, comfortable temperature, I would be inclined to leave a 4 (or even 5) star rating and I certainly would go more often. However, during these hot days of Texas, I drive by first. If the doors are open, I take my friends, my money, and my business to The Tipsy Oak, or J. Gilligan's, or Mellow Mushroom, or any of the other myriad places with a very short distance. I urge the owners to re-consider their desperate need to keep their customers uncomfortable and unhappy. Until such time, my money is better spent at locations that care about their customer's comfort. read more

Gilligans. I've been against j gilligans for years since I went there and had to serve myself after looking at my food in the window for 5-10 mins. Amazing-I was in Arlington in April and my Airbnb host suggested a visit. I was leaving Easter Sunday and needed a quick lunch bite prior to late Easter dinner and then an evening flight home. The Grease Monkey fit the bill ten fold and I met so many amazing patrons I wish I had more time to hang. Burger and hand cut fries were perfectly cooked and amazing (and far too big a portion for one) the casual and friendly vibe as well. Sunday early afternoon post Easter services and the place was packed. I hope to visit again when I return later July this month and recommend to anyone for a quirky and down to earth burger and fries fix! read more

Their burgers are sweet! Literally they use their own type of bun similarly styled like Hawaiian sweet bread. Prices are like some burger joints, around six to nine dollars a burger. The burgers do NOT come with a side item. I advise you order one, for examples, fried pickles or sweet potatoes fries. Keep in mind this place is also a bar. Drinks specials on select days exist. I don't think they will never run dry of PBR. Just be careful this is a college go to place on some nights. The bar can get crowded and there isn't any waiting staff. You can only order at the front register or the bar. One good gem in Arlington for off the path burgers. read more

I'm going to have to give this burger are three and a half. I had the Chicken Fried Burger that consisted of a burger patty dip in batter and fried to Golden Brown. It had a nice crunch on it and good flavor but I think the batter took away from the Flavor of the burger itself. I also chose Chipotle sauce as the topping for the burger. The chipotle sauce was a little sweet and did not have any spiciness to it at all. I think some space would have helped. Now that I know after reading a review that the angry Burger was not spicy at all, I think I will try that when the next time. The bun was a good choice, and it held up well against all of the condiments in addition to the grease from the fryer. Disappointing. Called for 2 days trying to get a to go order and no answer. Decided to dine in and try out the blind test burger winner and they say they don't have all the ingredients. To be honest, not sure how they won the contest. Their meat has little to no flavor. Hubby had the angry burger and I had the fried mushroom burger which we both split so we can taste both. Got quick appetizers while I was waiting for Babes across the street. Eh. I've had much better fried pickles and fried jalapeños. They were edible but a bit on the salty side. They weren't frugal with how much they gave us though but quantity doesn't trump quality. But that's what I can expect for $5 appetizers! Apparently they have happy hour on Tuesdays! Sweet Potato tater tots, sweet bread burger buns, chicken fried burgers are among the wow factor for me, but the establishment falls short in a few areas. Their burger isn't very big either. The lack of seating was a bit troublesome when I went. There are a few large tables and its almost like community seating. All the condiments and sauces are hidden back in the corner also, but if you can go when it's not very busy none of this should be a problem. It's also a bit expensive. I have been coming here for about 5 years now. This Austin-like casual burger spot is a "kid friendly" place that is great to come unwind with your neighbors and listen to bands play. The vibe is great! While you can't go wrong with burger and fries, might I suggest their grilled fish tacos! They are fabulous! This is a kid friendly place, keep that in mind if you aren't up to be around any. My kid got a bit loud because he was having so much fun! While I was attempting distraction techniques to get him to tone it down a bit, an older lady turned around and told me to tell my toddler to be quiet. The bartender took up for me reminding her it was a kid friendly place. We were there early on Saturday 11:30. So they had just opened for the day and it should have been cleaner. The stage was full of crumbs from Friday night's party. The place focuses on burgers and fries. Both are very good. I've been multiple times, ordering a different kind of burger and different type of fries each time and have enjoyed just about every choice I've had so far. I particularly enjoyed the burger that was very spicy-hot; it had a catchy name, but I've forgotten it now. You'll clearly see it on the menu. For fries, the sweet potato fries are a nice choice, but the other varieties are very good too. The ordering system is by waiting in a line, then picking up the food yourself when your beeper goes off. I have no problem with that. There is a condiment bar that allows you to customize your food. There is ice-cream for dessert. There is beer and a full service bar as well. Plenty of TVs showing sports. There are places for performers, though personally I have never been at a time live music is playing. read more

Visited Saturday afternoon. The Counter girl was friendly and helpful. The kitchen is open which I like. The seating area is dimmly lit, with a car & beer theme, and a bar vibe. They played country music country at right level. There is good tv placement. I had the roasted pepper burger and onion rings. We were given a beeper and the food was ready promptly and served on a beer tray. The onion rings were tender and lightly breaded. Very tasty. The big roasted pepper is well sized for the substantial burger which was juicy and good. The do-it-yourself condiment bar was well stocked and clean with good variety. Bathroom clean. This past Saturday My wife and I ordered a burger in the regular line and paid for it up front. We went to the bar and ordered beers. She drank one and I drank two which included a $2.00 beer. I forgot to ask for my card. Two days later I realized I didn't have my card and we ended up calling Greese Monkey to find they had it. So we went to pick it up and I realized all these charges on my card with a 20% tip added up to $66.10. The bartender about my age in his 50s gave me a hard time and said I'd have to come back to talk to his manager. I told him "you realize I'm going to rip him a new one". He resisted even more while I reiterated my point. He turned to a man standing just a few feet away. Turns out his manager was there all along. I ripped into him by telling him my problem which he initially resisted to. So I called my wife and daughter in waiting in the car for me and my wife told him what we ordered too without me coaching. The manager took us to a register and supposedly refunded me $60. That was Monday night. But Wednesday the charge had yet been returned so I went to my bank to cancel my card for a new one. The banker told me that that should have already been refunded but it wasn't I she refuted the charge. Do NOT trust those bartenders. They're crooked. read more
