I don't wear conservative - these were nice basic shirts and in style. The ladies have always been nice to me. And if you think a small charity shop, such as this, takes credit cards, which charge swipe fees for each transaction which for little business like this one would be prohibitive, guess again. Located in Harvard Sq., they seem to be a pretty busy spot. Parking wasn't hard to find in this area on a Sunday. Upon entering, we were greeting by one of the workers. There was a clearance rack that they placed outside next to the entrance. Once you walk down the stairs, to your right is where most of the clothes are. Solid selection of denim & leather jackets, a little pricey compared to Goodwill/Savers but makes sense because they are more of a "vintage" clothing store. To the left of the stairs is where they have denim jeans & where you go to check out once you're finish with browsing. All sales are final like most thrift/vintage second hand shops. I found this denim jack with a brown leather collar today for $60. Thick & good quality. Lots of Wilsons leather jackets here. They also have a room with bins of clothes, for a low price, you can look through. I didn't have much luck with the bins, but seems like a lot of people did! Highly recommend.

Friends + Family is a vintage clothing and home goods store in Harvard Square with a rotating…read moreinventory and a well considered aesthetic that makes it worth stopping into if you are already in the area. We walked into a space that feels curated rather than packed, with the kind of selection that rewards slower browsing. The inventory covers vintage clothing, watches, and home goods across a range of styles, and the curation leans toward quality over volume in a way that separates it from the more packed thrift format we have seen elsewhere. The stock turns over regularly enough that repeat visits tend to surface something new. The home goods section in particular gets positive attention from visitors who were not necessarily expecting that side of the shop. The store is dog friendly, a small detail that adds to the casual neighborhood feel of the place. Pricing runs higher than a standard thrift shop, and we noticed some items are priced well above their actual origin or value. There have been items we found that are fast fashion or dropshipped but are being priced as vintage, which is a meaningful concern for anyone shopping here specifically for authentic secondhand pieces. Paying attention to what you are buying and cross referencing pricing on anything that seems unclear before purchasing is worth doing. For a vintage stop in Harvard Square that delivers on aesthetic but requires a careful eye at the register, Friends + Family is a pleasant browse with a caveat.

My daughter and I had been browsing for approximately…read more30 minutes at this higher-end thrift shop, and I had actually found several items I intended to purchase. One of them was a shirt with a rather steep price tag. I simply wanted to determine what year it was from before deciding whether it was worth the price. My daughter was holding the shirt while I briefly looked on my phone for information. Without any courtesy or professionalism, the owner approached us and began berating us for looking at our phones rather than asking her for assistance. I explained that I was interested in purchasing the shirt and was simply trying to find out the year it was from. Her response? She angrily snatched the shirt out of my daughter's hands and proceeded to scold us in front of other customers, insisting that we should have asked her if we had questions. Imagine how differently this situation could have unfolded had she simply approached us politely and asked whether we needed assistance. Instead, she chose to be confrontational, condescending, and completely disrespectful. I explained that I had been planning to purchase several items, but after being treated so rudely, I no longer wished to spend a single dollar in her store. Rather than attempting to resolve the situation, she turned her back on us and completely ignored us. What is particularly ironic is that this store is called Friends and Family. Based on our experience, there was absolutely nothing friendly or welcoming about the way its owner treated us. A business owner who treats paying customers with such disdain has no business being in customer service. After leaving, I went to post a review and discovered that numerous other customers had shared similarly negative experiences involving the owner's behavior. Clearly, our experience was not an isolated incident. Beyond the appalling customer service, the merchandise is significantly overpriced, and Boston has plenty of other vintage and secondhand clothing stores that offer a far better shopping experience.
