We used to come to this spot when it was Big Spoon frozen yogurt years ago. We had not been in to try out The Good Scoop, so when my sister said she was craving ice cream, we decided to come check it out! There were 5 of us (me, my sister, my brother in law and their girls (10 and 7). We had checked out the menu online prior to coming in and had a general idea of what we wanted to order. Once we made it into the store, we were a little overwhelmed with our choices. Their scooping options were unique in that you could have 2-3 diff ent flavors in one cup/cone! The SINGLE scoop could be up to 2 different flavors. The GOOD scoop was 2 single scoops with up to 2 flavors. The DOUBLE was 2 single scoops made of up to 3 different flavors. We all thought that was different! Annnd, they offer a FLIGHT of 3 different favors. What a fun concept!! That had 2 options as well (mini and regular). The prices are a little steep in our opinion, but we don't go out for ice cream all that often so it was a nice treat! After a little contemplation, we all put in our orders: Double scoop: Horchata, Strawberry Shortcake and Ube Brownie (Une Brownie was DELICIOUS, Horchata was yummy and Strawberry Shortcake was good) Good scoop: dairy-free Vanilla Bean and dairy-free Chocolate Brownie (both were tasty for dairy-free) Single scoop: Chocolate and Vanilla (whipped cream and sprinkles on top were an added bonus); Chocolate and Coffee and Cookies (whipped cream and sprinkles added to the yumminess); Coconut and Peach (coconut was very flavorful and peach was indiscernible as peach ). Just moved to Dixon and this is the only ice cream shop in town other than Baskin-Robbins. I was excited to try it because it had good reviews but I did not have a good experience. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted and I asked a few questions and the worker just was not in the mood to talk. I get it, we all have those days so I just give her the benefit of the doubt. I was the only one in the shop with my 2 kids. Then I order coffee ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate chips on top. She asked me 2 more times what I wanted because she forgot. I started eating the ice cream and it tasted like vanilla ice cream with chalky ground beans in it. Not the coffee ice cream I'm used to. When we were sitting, another girl came out of the back and it seemed to be the workers friend. They were in the back laughing and gossiping. They seemed like they were in high school. I usually really like Good Scoop. I don't know what happened but I wanted one ice cream and they didn't have it, understandable. I ordered another kind, Cookie Monster, it was all Monster and ZERO cookie. Pretty sad. I was looking forward to the different textures but I feel like they're skimping on the ingredients. Also, did the strawberry ice cream used to have strawberry bits? This time it was just ice cream, no pieces of strawberry. Review #1,000! I was there when Good Scoop originally grand-opened in Davis (2016) and absolutely loved their unique gourmet ice cream flavors, I even had a stampcard going! My first bite of it was cajeta (caramelized goat's milk), and their salted caramel. Later their black sesame ice cream (and black sesame waffle cone) are what snagged me, baby cups of Jasmine Green Tea flavor, Earl Grey Tea ice cream, Lucuma, and coffee scoops. Their daily and seasonal flavors always included interesting tastes such as bay laurel, sage, geranium, cardamom, lavender, etc. Expensive but a fun treat once in awhile. At that time they served Tara's Organic Ice Cream, made in Berkeley/Oakland I believe. I was so sad when The Good Scoop relocated from downtown Davis further out to Dixon a few years ago (2019?), then again little did I know my work would also relocate away from Davis anyway. Was headed home from winetasting in Winters recently and decided to detour and wait out the traffic by stopping into the Dixon Good Scoop for old times' sake. Sounds like the ice cream is now made in Dixon in small batches, with local seasonal ingredients and fresh dairy, as well as plant-based ice creams and sorbets. Dairy sourced from Strauss, coffee and teas from Journey Coffee (Vacaville), macarons from Love+Macarons (Elk Grove), pistachios from Fiddyment Farms (Lincoln), lavender from Araceli Farms (Dixon), etc. Call it Farm to...Spoon? Rather than Farm to Fork or Table, heh. Flavors they had (change monthly) were: mint chip, cookie monster, rocky road brownie, cinilla (cinnamon vanilla), lavender, cookies and cream, coffee, chocolate, pistachio, sweet cream, cherry, chocolate chip, oat cookies and cream, and I recall a Dutch chocolate as well. Apparently they also have a Pint of the Month club and the June flavor was Strawberry Lemonade. On this particular visit, I decided on a "Good Scoop" size in a cup with two flavors: cherry and chocolate. Just missing pistachio and I could've made it into my own version of spumoni, haha. The cherry wasn't overly reddish/pink in color or too sweet, not sure if I noticed any real cherry pieces. It was good, but my favorite was actually the deep dark chocolate ice cream. Unfortunately no samples at this time, so it was mostly based on the scooper's description and the look/sound of each flavor that fueled our decisions. I forget which all flavors my friends got except the [blue] cookie monster that had cookie dough and oreo I think? And the cinnilla for sure. I asked if they'd include a little wedge of waffle as a sort of garnish for my cup but alas, no. Unsure when/if I shall be back, but happy to see this ice cream shop succeed especially nowadays! I like that around Sacramento you can still get fun funky flavors of ice cream at other places like Devil May Care, Goth Creamery, and of course the family creameries that have been around longer. read more

We haven't been here since the pandemic started, but finally got ourselves out to reunite with my favorite ice cream store - Good Scoop! My gosh, what a treasure this place is and literally my favorite ice cream place on the planet. We've been regular customers since they first opened in Davis so many years ago and am so glad they are still here. This time I tried the cookie monster and ice cream sandwich flavors in a small cup. Kids are always a fan of sweet cream with rainbow sprinkles. My husband loved the cinnivanilla and the chocolate chocolate chip. Mediocre. I have had home-made ice cream at many shops places like Handels and Gunther's. This place missed the mark for home-made ice cream the ice cream had a fluffy and artificial texture and the flavor was no different, very sweet and artificial. The whipped cream was flat and runny and the sundae was topped with whole peanuts. This area is known for growing almonds and almonds have a superior flavor. I like supporting small businesses, especially food locations. I've come here several times and for most part ice cream flavors have always been good and a nice selection. Only complaint I've ever really had is the "rewards" enter your number has never worked. We've went to this location 15+ times and each time just says welcome and no one ever had a reason. I would put this at a 4 star but I've now come here twice recently and both times have been closed before posted hours. This last time 20+ min before closing, door wasn't even locked I open it and we were told closing early. I really like the ice creams here - they are quality ice cream. Flavors change everyday. My favorites are coffee flavor, black sesame, cardamon and pistachio. Not too sweet, but yet deliciously creamy. It is a tad pricey but you are paying for the quality + private small business. You can order the ice cream in cup or cone and even in pint sizes to enjoy later from the comfort of your own home. Props to The Good Scoop for setting shop in our small town of Dixon. They are located in the Safeway strip mall right next door to Solano Baking Company. Hint: if you're in Dixon you should check out both. If I'm not mistaken this space was previously occupied by froyo place but now that The Good Scoop has moved in, the improvement is obvious. The decor is simple and very clean and they have some flavors I tried for the first time that I did not see elsewhere. I tried lavander, earl gray, and black sesame-they were all surprisingly good. The prices are what you'd expect to pay for quality ice cream elsewhere, no more or less. Once the warmer weather finally comes to NorCal, The Good Scoop will 100% be my cooling go-to spot! read more
