If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. We stopped here on our drive back from South Lake Tahoe to San Jose, and it was easily the best decision of our trip. First, the restaurant itself is fantastic. The Indian buffet is excellent, everything was fresh and packed with flavor, and the ambience is wonderful. The entire staff was incredibly welcoming from the moment we walked in. But what happened next proved that the owner is a genuinely amazing person. Our car broke down right in their driveway, and we were stuck waiting a long time for a tow truck. The owner Dilawar didn't just tolerate us blocking the path; he actively took care of us. He checked on us constantly to make sure we were comfortable, let us plug in our phones to charge, and when it became clear we had to spend the night at a nearby hotel, he personally drove us there himself. This level of hospitality is almost unheard of these days. Incredible food, immaculate vibes, and a business owner with a massive heart. THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD! Depending on what time of day you go, you can either pay the lunch or dinner price per plate. I ended up eating many plates of the chicken tikka and rice. You only pay once, and then you can get as many plates as you want. It was mostly self service, however, the waiter was very nice and offered us some garlic naan. We ended up purchasing that separately, however, it was worth it. It was very good and I highly recommend grabbing some to go along with whatever you eat from the buffet. I've been coming to Punjabi Dhaba since I was a child with my father, so this place means a lot to me. Sikandar, the owner who passed away, built something really special here. It was never about being fancy. It was always about good food, kind service, and a warm, genuine feeling that kept people coming back. I still remember when there was farmland behind the restaurant, and now there are new homes all around, but the heart of this place still feels the same. We recently had the buffet and really enjoyed it, and it was nice to see the family continuing on and still bringing fresh warm naan to the table. I just love the buffet at this spot. They offer so many awesome items to allow you to have a serving of all the good stuff. I went for the dinner buffet and just loved the additional Goat Curry and Fish Pakora. They alone are worth the slightly extra cost compared to the lunch buffet. Pro tip - Add some butter chicken and goat curry gravy on the fish pakora. I'd also suggest adding gravy to your veggie pakora too. Makes them so savory!!! Everything is so flavorful. The garlic naan (made to order) is really good and makes for a perfect vessel to sop up all the awesome gravies from the different dishes. I really enjoy this spot. Try them out yourself. This place is so special. Punjabi Dhaba has the most phenomenal buffet I have ever been to. Every single item, and I tried all of them, was to die for. The chicken tikka masala, kheer, and tofu curry were personal highlights. I am not joking, I sat and downed 3 full plates of this and 2 Limcas, it is one of the best meals I have ever had. The restaurant is also gorgeous inside, I loved the wallpaper and the Indian music videos on the TV are fun to watch. There are some small notes inside as well that illustrate their values and goal as a small business that just add to the overall feel. It's a perfect establishment, I would change nothing about it. Also, the people there are always very kind! One of the guys suggested I put one of the rosewater donut desserts into the kheer, he was totally right, it was divine. Great vibe in there, just amazing, all smiles the whole time. Overall, if you are anywhere within 100 miles of this place and you like Indian food, make the drive. This place never disappoints. I've never not liked something I've gotten here so I always try to get at least one thing I've never had before. Today I got: Gulab Jamun- a sweet milk dessert that was rolled in this amazing rose honey syrup. Chicken Tikka Masala- roasted marinated chicken chunks in a spiced creamy tomatoey sauce. Aloo Tikki- deep fried mashed potatoes patties mixed with herbs and spices. Everything was delicious. The Galub Jamun was the perfect amount of sweet. Chicken Tikka Masala was great, super flavorful and the chicken was cooked perfectly- it also came with rice. When I told friends I was going to Dixon, several folks said THE place to eat there was Punjabi Dhaba and I had to make a stop. So we told our other friends we were meeting that this was going to be our dinner spot. They were excited too since they were not regular Indian food eaters and were eager to try good Indian food. Sadly this was a perfect setup for a massive let down and that's what happened. We walked in and saw they had a buffet that did not look that appealing so we decided to go the a la carte path. The staff just did not seem interested in helping us. Everything from the drinks order to the food order to getting the food to getting the check taken care of took a VERY long time and multiple requests and multiple trips to the front. It felt like being unwelcome guests. Oh, and they brought the appetizer order right before we were about to leave and forgot part of our drinks order despite multiple asks. After all that... the food was very average. Even our friends said they had had much better Indian food. One more thing, the restroom was disgusting. I was so excited to try them and walked in thinking 5 star but left so disappointed and upset. I hate leaving 1 star reviews but this one earned it. read more

We were very hungry and we were searching for no onion and no garlic food. We called some restaurants but they said they don't serve like that but when we called Punjabi Dhaba they said they will make it. They were also very kind and respectful. There is also a buffet on the weekends so if you go on the weekends you can eat from there. The food was so good it filled our stomach with lovely and tasty goods. It looked very nice. Pretty good Indian food, I really liked the buttered chicken and the naan. The only thing is that the amount of chicken in the buttered chicken wasn't that much--it might have just been a scope fluke. Also the fish pakora was kinda dry. They did have the herb sauces which helped with the pakora dryness. Service was fast and pleasant! Next to a fruit stand off the freeway so may look a bit sketchy on the outside but felt safe inside! After spending 4 hrs in traffic without food it was so good too have home style meal. We ordered tea, sweet lassi and paneer pakora to start with. All were good. Tea quantity is good. For main we shared chicken achari with garlic naan. It was freshly cooked and chicken for a change surprisingly tender. It was quiet when we were there. Observed they had steamed rice being served with some r go dishes. Definitely good spot if you are craving some good curry and naan on your way to Sacramento/ Tahoe/ Reno. My new favorite spot for Indian food! The best malai kofta I've tried! They also do super tasty appetisers samosa and aloo tiki chat - basically those covered in sauces yoghurt anc chickpeas! Came here during lunch for their buffet. Was greeted promptly by a male server who asked if we were here for the buffet. I told him we were and he said we can sit anywhere in the restaurant. We were the only customers at the time so we just found seating in the middle. The server asked if we wanted naan and gave us a choice of regular or garlic. I asked if we can do garlic. He then said we can help ourselves to their selection. They had a decent amount of options to choose from. The food was not bad, just like any other Indian lunch buffet I been to. The server came a few times and asked if we needed anything else, along with clearing up empty dishes. For the most part, the service was good. It wasn't until I went to paid where things went downhill. He asked how the food was and I told him it was good. The total was like $35 or so and I handed him a $100. He asked if I had change and I told him I didn't. He then gave me a dirty look like I caused a problem somehow. I told him I can pay with card instead. He said it's fine he will go get change and asked either his mom or whoever the staff member was sitting down for change. He returned with some change to give me and looked pissed off about it. I then handed him a $20 and asked if he can give me change. He handed me change and I gave him a generous $10 tip. He took the money with so much attitude, and didn't even say thanks or anything. Don't know what the hell his problem was and why he was triggered by me handing a large bill when I offered to use card if he didn't have change. I'm really appreciative of the bros there for the hospitality. I flew in from YVR/SFO after two weeks in Canada. Blew my front right tire and scraped my way to the nearest address. Was waiting for a tow and decided to relax for an hour there. The fellas gave me a solid to go order and a road soda (TAJ). Great light brew and a solid meal to get me fueled for Lake Tahoe. We ordered a few things to go - chaat, chole bhature, butter chicken and naans. Everything was pretty good. The menu and items brought out is different. Chicken pakora says they used chicken breast tenders and when they brought it out was chicken thighs. Food is okay... everything tasted sweet like sugar is added to the food. Service can be improved. The bar looks good but I would be concerned if I ordered a drink. If you are on way to Tahoe or have ANY excuse to be around Dixon, you MUST come here!! Authentic, REAL Punjabi food that will bring back memories of mouth watering dhaba food in India!! I live in the Bay Area and I've practically eaten at all Indian restaurants and for me to rate this so high is a lot. DO not miss this! My husband noticed this sign in Punjabi (see pics), and was like "we have to go here". The menu is large, but we picked dhaba classics - dal makhni, mattar paneer, chicken tikka masala, garlic naans, lassi, chai, kulfi - and WOW!! What an amazing meal! Just see the pictures and drool! The absolute stars for me were - Matar Paneer and the garlic naan - untouchable and I'd say best I've had in Bay Area. Matar paneer had a great masala but it let the paneer and sweetness of peas stand out - one bite and I was transported to my Punjab/Delhi dhaba experiences! I even got another order to go of it - that's how good it is. The naan omg crisp, soft, hot, perfect char from tandoor (real tandoor) and butter - how can you not be hungry reading this??? A dhaba is a roadside eatery found on freeways across the Indian subcontinent, often serving us a stop for weary travelers with generally inexpensive and delicious comfort food. This restaurant that really lives up to the name and the food is absolutely top notch! We stopped over here on our way back from a backpacking trip in Tahoe and ordered pick up. It was ready in about 20 mins although they said 30 over the phone. Friendly service in the restaurant. Here's what we ate : Makki di roti (corn based flat bread) and saag - 11/10 - Absolutely the star, it was unbelievably good. I remember the lip smacking taste as I write this review. Chole bathura (4/5) - Again delicious chole but the bathura was a little thick but still just delicious. Gol Gappa ( 5/5) - Looks like they make their own puris, just delicious paani to dip the puri in Gulab Jamun (5/5) - Perfect, the way it should be. Generously sized, right amount of sweetness and a richness with every bite I'm so disappointed that it's so far away but this is now the designated stop over on our way to Tahoe. read more

We visited at 3 pm on a Monday afternoon and this place was thriving! They had a buffet offering that day. The naan was served fresh and hot and it was amazing! The daal stole the show. They served hot daal at their buffet counter and it was the perfect punjabi daal. The other options were also pretty good! Saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, all really good. kheer was okay, but gulab jamuns were really good. Decided to come here on a whim after hearing so many great things from a local who also happen to be a coworker, he totally raved about this place and said we had to check it out. I would consider this place a hidden gem, easy on and off Hwy 80 in Dixon. It's all you can eat or a la carte both lunch and dinner time and you can't go wrong with $13.99 for ayce dinner. We got to go in for dinner one day and we showed up at 5pm as they opened up but they technically weren't ready til 5:30pm. They have an assortments of alcohols and sodas. Everything comes out nice and hot they have a salad bar they even have desserts. I Love that their nann bread comes out nice and hot and fresh from the kitchen. Off the al carte menu I recommend the papri chaat just lighter on the onions my absolute fav dish but gotta eat it fresh. They have a good selection on lentil curries, they have chicken, lamb fish and even pakoras. The staff was very attentive I always had water in my glass they always checked up on us and plates are always cleared. Would definitely come back again soon. read more
