    Beer and Menu

Table for to 2 for lunch As we approached the property, we realized that street parking was the only option, but we snagged a spot quickly. It was an old-school street meter, thankfully it accepted credit cards. We took a short walk across the street and noticed a few outdoor tables in front, before heading inside. We entered and saw the sign instructing to seat yourself. We sat at a high top table pretty centrally located. The whole interior felt like we were transported to a British pub. Our server quickly came over with menus and waters, giving us a few minutes to review the options. We needed some time to review the menu. The beer list was massive; drafts as well as cans and bottles spread across multiple pages. While they don't offer traditional beer flights, they do serve smaller 11 ounce pours. Wifey ordered a couple of those: a Harp Premium Lager and a Bavak Super Wit from the draft list. I went with a bottled Pilsner Urquell and later tried an 11 ounce taster of "Escape Button," an IPA from local Athens brewery, Athentic. We enjoyed all of our choices. The food menu featured classic pub options, but also a few that you wouldn't expect like a Curry Chicken Bowl that I almost ordered but instead I went with the Turkey Club sandwich with no tomatoes and a side salad. Wifey ordered Chicken tenders with french fries. The food took a little longer than expected to come out and when it arrived my sandwich still came out with tomatoes. I did not make a big deal about it and picked them out. My sandwich and salad were actually very good and Wifey said her meal was also very good. While hanging out in the dining room we noticed some original artwork near the bar that we found out was to depict the history of wine. There's also an upstairs area that was blocked off during our visit, and a sign mentioned that live music starts at 10 PM. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch time visit to The Globe and would definitely return the next time we are in town.

Service was great. Server was very nice and attentive. The restaurant as not really crowded on a Tuesday night. Food came out fast and fresh. Great portions. Restaurant decor matched the theme and very eclectic.

Great service, food and drinks all around. The Irish band playing was lovely too. We will be back!

It has a real English pub vibe. Service was decent, although I did feel like checks were a bit rushed and they weren't even busy. We were planning on hanging out for a bit to catch up with friends, but our server offered the check right after we finished dinner so we moved onto another bar. There are some mixed emotions on food by other reviewers but I thought it was great! The pretzels were bite sized and had great texture-- slightly crisp on the outside and pillowy on the inside. I got the Clayton St. Hot Curry sandwich and it was amazing-- a curry fried chicken (or tofu) sandwich with a mint yogurt. Got it with fried okra because I'm a Californian visiting the south. Would come again!

They were slow when I got there.....the dark tavern type atmosphere was exactly what my soul was in need of. Waitress whipped up an incredible margarita (or 2) and I had the best Reuben I have ever had in my life. Don't stop what you are doing Globe. You guys nailed my experience. My waitress was friggin awesome. Wish I could give you more stars. The guy that was cleaning up even got me with (what felt like) an authentic "Right on". There was some power in that. I don't know if it was the margaritas or what but that place feels like it speaks to souls. Get that sammich. You won't regret it.**** **** Disclaimer: No guarantees that the doctor that made my sammich will be working when you getcho sammich.

The Globe is one of the numerous good places in downtown Athens. It can get very busy on a Friday or a Saturday night, but it wasn't when we went on a Sunday night. Mind you, lots of places in Athens are closed on Sunday, which made the Globe a welcome option for dinner and drinks. Food wise, the best label I can give you is gastro pub. We both chose the Guinness battered fish and chips. I have a problematic relationship with fish and chips. Most of the time I order it, I wish I'd ordered something else. I was not disappointed with fish and chips here, though. I ordered the one piece because I was not super hungry. It was very good. The chips likewise were very good. They were the best fries I've had in Athens hands down. It's full bar with an extensive selection of beers and a very good selection of bourbon and other spirits. The service was good. I have no complaints. The decor and atmosphere is much like what you might to expect of an upscale British pub, but that's just my take on it. We enjoyed our meal and our time there. Cheers!

Mellow Gold Chicken Sandwich and hand-cut fries

Wanted to try out some local downtown Athens restaurants and decided to start with the globe one Friday evening. We came a bit early (around 430) so were there ahead of any Friday evening rush and were seated immediately. We ordered a whiskey sour which was well made. For food I got the Mellow Gold Chicken Sandwich. It was wonderful with nicely fried chicken thigh and a fantastic honey mustard on top. The sandwich came with their hand cut potato wedge style fries which would have been AMAZING had they not been over cooked slightly. That knocked them down a bit but they were still edible and good and I saw the potential for how good they would have been had they been cooked properly. Overall, this was a great experience. The service was solid, food and drink tasty and the vibe inside the restaurant is very nicely laid back and relaxed in a positive way. I would certainly return again.

    Ploughman's plate

Opening day. Longest wait ever for our $10 Ploughman's plate and $7.50 cold onion rings. When we finally got our entrees, everything was cold. Portions were tiny (just look at the fries - there were like 5 of them). The place wasn't packed by any means. What a bummer. I don't leave many bad reviews and I was really trying to find something positive about the experience but overall the food, service, and price were just disappointing.

    The Ruban

Walking around downtown, we wanted to try a new place and The Globe was a block away. The menu is VERY BASIC, but the drink selections and beers were good. I ordered the Ruban and side salad. My spouse ordered the Diner Burger (basically two sliders dressed up). The burger were well done, almost crispy. The Ruban was very good, a great balance of beef and extras. The price point is high for what you get for food, but the drink pricing is fair. We would return, but hoping for a better menu.

Delightful-everything was lovely. We had the Reuben and fish & chips, iced tea & organic stevia was perfect. Ambience is on point, service with Jake, charming.

No reservation, waited in nice open lobby, seated relatively quick. Server was very nice, entire staff was hustling with purpose. Food was great! Tater tots for the appetizer. Kids burger looks to be an adult size and delicious. Kids chicken tenders are very tasty. Fries are legit. Salad was good. Nashville "hot" but not really was good! Definitely recommend and would go back when in town.

As it is, I'd still give them a 4.75 stars for such a lovely experience. I would still say you NEED to eat here if you are here on Sunday! Just be warned to wear not slip shoes! They actually take reservations for Sunday brunch, so that's already a plus. When we were running a bit late, Indie was truly a joy to talk with, and she made the change without a hiccup! Once we got there, she was even more welcoming and got us seated in no time. Before I explain my concern, let me make it clear that we will certainly be back when we visit Athens! The location is so close to the UGA campus it's a no-brainer. There was plenty of street parking around, including handicap, so it's easy to get to. While the front entrance is almost hilariously plain and non-descript, the interior is really beautiful!! I felt like we walked into a The Great Gatsby. My daughter was tickled by the ever-changing ticker sign over the bar. Everyone loved the stained glass and deep colors. Even the bathrooms were like being at Grand Central Station in the 20's. And the food!!! We tried all the classic Southern Soul Food staples, and they did NOT disappoint! From the fried green tomatoes, to the shrimp & grits, to an enormous French Toast, they put their foot in it!! Bravo! I have to note that the fried chicken is truly crave-able--crispy, juicy, & flavorful!! The fried green tomatoes were cornbread crispy and delicious! Fair warning that they do have a bit of a bite to them, so check with your littles. We appreciated that they offered egg whites in any dish with eggs, but I wish there was a non-pork substitute for some dishes. There's a vegan selection, but it's just not the same, so we didn't try it. Maybe next time! I lived my goat cheese omelette, and the portion was big enough I got to take some home with me. Just wonderful food all around. The beignets were divine! And it ended up being my daughter's birthday dessert/app. And then we just kept ordering more. Cannot say enough great things about our server--and my mind goes blank because I wish I could remember her name!! She was great the entire time for our whole 9-top group. She kept the waters filled, she cleared plates along the way, she was welcoming and engaging, and we just all enjoyed being here because of it. While we waited for some of our party to arrive, we were directed to a beautiful lobby adjacent to the restaurant. Unfortunately, the floor was exceptionally slippery--like an oily kind of slippery that is not conducive to an 88-year-old using a walker kind of slippery. I was a little worried for my F & MIL. The elevator is so far from where we needed to be that it wasn't worth the risk, so we chose to go up the 2 steps at the front entrance. Luckily for us, everyone was able to move around with care this time.

We were seated immediately at a bar next to the front porch with a view of milledge. We both ordered mocktails, a fresh lemonade and cherry lime spritz, both were delicious and although we don't drink I can bet my bottom dollar their cocktails are crafted and amazing. We started with corn fritters, raw oysters and seasonal peach salad. The only thing I didn't like was the chili in the peach salad, I heard another table request it without so I guess that's an option but I believe in tasting it how it's served. For entrees we did the fresh pasta dish and the fish. Both were creative and divine. The filling for the pasta was silky and the touch of nutmeg or cinnamon in the sauce made it next level. The fish was perfectly cooked and paired nicely with the coconut sauce. For dessert we chose a cherry cheesecake and peanut butter chocolate cake with grape jelly ice cream. I'm not sure if they have a pastry chef but it's been some time since I've had a dessert crafted with so much love. The quality latte we drank with them was the cherry on top. We've already invited our friends for dinner next month. 10/10 reccomend

Nestled in a gorgeous building that was once a residential house, the restaurant has a gorgeous and cozy ambience that makes you feel like you're visiting with friends from the moment you enter. The menu changes with the seasons, and I've never been less than impressed with the often-inventive dishes. I highly recommend starting with their cast iron cornbread. It sounds simple, but it's truly elevated. Right now, the sweet potato brown butter pierogies are absolutely mouth-watering, and the hazelnut bread pudding is rich and a perfect blend of sweetness and cream. The waitstaff is top notch and you'll receive better, more attentive service here than at restaurants with much larger price tags in Atlanta. They also have an impressive cocktail program and wine list. On the "it's the little things" list, the candles 5 & 10 uses in the restroom are outstanding! They sell them and they're spendy, but worth it.
