This is such a cute place located in downtown Charleston. They have great drinks and small bites with a nice outside patio and bar area. The drinks were delicious you can select how you want them made, for example vodka, sweet, summery, select 3 options and the bartender makes up a yummy cocktail. The Gin Joint is a cool "speakeasy" retro bar. There is usually a wait to get in, but we were able to get a table without a wait. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, and the lighting is low. There are booths down the right side and tables in the center and left. The bar where all the creative drinks are made is in the back. The menu for drinks is very creative and interesting. If you can't find something you like on the menu, you can order the "Bartender's Choice" where you pick two adjectives about the type of drink you like and let them put together a drink for you. They also have a full book of bourbons, gins, tequilas, vodkas and others. They have a pretty varied food menu with cheese, meats and other choices. The servers were attentive and friendly. Gin Joint! YAS! Went for after dinner dranks (Husk dinner ). This place was a great find! Intimate space with a couple of great bartenders. Ours was engaging, talkative and took the time to get to know us while we were there! I had a "bartenders choice", it was great! Hubs had a couple all in all and both were to die for, especially the final word, a tad pricey but oh so good. The walk from the Husk over to the Gin Joint was a gorgeous one! My boyfriend and I visited this place around 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. Luckily we were able to get seated right away, but I heard the wait can be up to 30 minutes. We sat at the long table with other groups of people so it did get loud at time but it was expected. Definitely get a booth or a small table if you want to have a more private experience. It was fun going through the drink menu. I almost chose the 'Bartender's Choice' where you can pick two words from the list and they will concoct a delicious drink for you. The group next to us chose this and I can definitely tell that they loved their surprise drink. I went with the 'King Kong Bundy' -- similar to a whiskey sour. I typically like my drinks on the sweeter side and the banana added to this whiskey sour-like drink met my satisfaction. We also ordered 'Pickled Shrimp' -- yes, the shrimp did taste pickled. It had a strong vinegar taste, though not sweet (thankfully). It paired well with the whipped ricotta and toast. We found this little gem tucked away several feet farther from the road than its neighbors. Came upon it at night and almost missed it. It seemed just a little more private and cozy. My husband and I loved the atmosphere of the place, high ceilings and walls lined with every imaginable gin one could want and a very impressive selection of other liquors, exotic bitters and creative garnishes. I ordered an interesting and elaborate cocktail called The Cat's Eyes, which was good, but not my favorite. There were so many to choose from. Next time I'll try something different. My husband ordered a Bols Genever, a hard-to-find barrel ahead gin. He loved it. I was in the mood for something strong, smoky and peaty, so I switched to Islay scotches. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and professional. Knowing it was going to rain most of the next day, a super kind server prepared a handwritten list of about five places of interest we could enjoy indoors. Stellar. So we came here based off a recommendation. I got the bartenders choice with fizzy and refreshing and it was dangerously good! We got a few snackies to hold us over including the octopus ceviche and the fancy toast. The ceviche was different but delicious and the octopus was tender. :) The fancy toast...oh my gosh. The "pick 2 adjectives" and they make you a drink option I was a bit skeptical of, but ended up with one of the best cocktails I've gotten in Charleston - with absinthe no less! They have a huge drink selection, however the food menu is pretty small. We enjoyed the Whipped Bone Marrow , Shrimp Dumplings and Soft Pretzels. They have an option for the bartender to make a drink based off of a list of words for you to choose. I chose the words 'Tart' and 'Floral' to which the bartender made me a drink called "The Bee's Knees". The waitresses were super nice and attentive. We are so happy we found this cute little spot. Kinda dark and speakeasy but fun and bougie comfortable inside. They do have a small seating area outside but it was too humid. Our favorite part was the " pick two words" mystery cocktail. We all got that three times! We also had a charcuterie board and pimento cheese which were delicious. Visited 08/14/2022 We decided to stop in and grab a quick "craft cocktail" and maybe a bite to eat. We were greeted by Gibran who, we found out is quite a knowledgeable and talented bartender. The drinks neither one of have ever had were: a Nona mixup, a Feng shui friend, a whiskey sour and a 'lost in a maize.' All these drinks were amazing, although not necessarily made with gin. Drinks I would never think to make or have seen anywhere. This place is small, but with great vibe (helped along by Gibran) and a small outside area for people watching. The food too was very good, but we only had a couple of apps... A pimento cheese dip and the octopus ceviche. Excellent. Next time in Charleston... gonna stop by for dinner. read more

I wouldn't stay the overall drink quality was quite that of an NYC speakeasy, but they were still enjoyable. My wife had the Season of Spritz cocktail which she really liked. I had an Old Fitzgerald 15-year bottle in bond bourbon which was really good. Then I tried the Michter's 10 year bourbon which tasted a bit off. Then I tried the Michter's 10-year rye, which is one of my favorite ryes. This tasted really off. I asked to see the bottle. The bottle had a good amount of juice in it, so it was not a case of oxidation. I asked the bartender to pour me a little bit straight out of the bottle and it tasted the same, really off. There are only two conclusions I can make and that is that the bottle got damaged somehow, maybe in the hot heat of the summer or they're putting some other kind of rye juice in the bottle. I let them know that the bottle was terrible. I don't think they're going to stop serving it though. One of the ladies said that it might be a bad batch. There's no possible way Michter's could put out a product that bad, especially their 10-year, which is one of their best products. They are perfectionists over there. I've visited their tasting room. I was suspicious of this place right from the start as their menu says: half pours and full pours. Every other good bourbon bar around here has 1 oz and 2 oz pours. This bar never tells you how much you're going to get unless you ask the waitress. I asked what a half pour was and she said 3/4 of an oz. That is a quarter of an ounce less than every other bar in the area. They're charging the same price as other premium bourbon bars as well. Their bourbons are also served in a reflective, kaleidoscope-like glass that seems like you're getting more than you actually are. Two signs that this place is pulling a scam right from the start. I mentioned this to the waitress and she seemed offended. Of course she doesn't want to think that she's working in a place that's pulling a scam. All that being the case, you can see why I wanted to see the bottle and taste it right out of the bottle. They did give me 50% off the Michter's rye pour. Anyway, I would avoid this place and go to the Husk or Home Team BBQ for some premium bourbon pours. read more

There's an array of great cocktails (especially the gin-based ones) but I highly recommend getting the "Bartender's Choice" - You pick two "flavors" and the bartender makes something fun and random based on what you chose! I picked "smokey" and "unusual" and it was delicious! It was a bourbon based drink with citrus flavors and what I assume was liquid smoke - It all worked well together! If you like fun and different twists on drinks this is the place to come! My mom and I tried the Royal Ostara, you're no daisy, and lula fortune. We loved them all! I wish we didn't have a dinner reservation solely so we could have hung out and tried more. They also had a ton of snack options. We got the pretzel and it hit the spot. Regardless of your age make sure you have your ID. Also there does tend to be a wait. We came at 3:30 on a Saturday and waited 30 min. This time went up to 1-1.5hr wait times while we were being served. It seemed like 5/5:30 was a sweet spot with people leaving for dinner. If you are coming in the summer the outdoor seating is directly in the sun - there is limited seating regardless. If you prefer indoor seating it may be best to arrive before they open. read more
