From the moment we walked in you're greeted with smiles from a welcoming staff. Lots of seating and windows with beautiful views of the lake. I had the Mahi Mahi. Very tender, with an amazing glaze with hints of citrus. The loaded potato was excellent. Squash casserole was the best I've tasted! Excellent meal. We enjoyed our first visit to The Galley. In spite of an awful storm that hit just before we arrived, the place was packed and we had a short wait for our reserved table (not an issue, just an indication that it's a busy place and you should definitely reserve ahead). Karli waited on us and was delightful. We had a Tempura Roll appetizer and the Filet Mignon Tips and Pecan Crusted Carolina Trout entrees - both excellent and we took half of each home as the portions were very large. The onion rings and squash casserole were great sides. We got a huge slice of Strawberry Cake to go, and enjoyed it at home with some vanilla ice cream. All in, a really nice experience. On a final note, as we were walking out and I was managing 3 to-go boxes, a slender young man (he had glasses and a ponytail, but I failed to note his name) who worked there asked if I needed a bag to hold the boxes. I took him up on the offer and while it was a small gesture, his thoughtfulness signifies good training by the restaurant, good hiring practices to identify service-oriented staff, or both. He made a difference when he could have just walked by - I hope he sees this and gets a nice recognition. read more

Food service and ambiance. Best sunsets. The food is always right. The servers who bring the food to the table need to learn ; not to reach across the table in front of others; to serve food. Walk around to that person you are serving. That just started during summer break! The food is always great. I am getting to the point that I have to ask why the long wait. This restaurant is my wife's favorite. The food is usually made exactly as my wife's is wanting it. My concern is that even though 2/3rds of the tables are empty there still is a 30 minute wait no matter what. This Friday 4 employees stood at the front mostly playing on their phones or talking to eachother. Why 4. This restaurant is right on the water at Portman Shoals. The service is excellent, the food quality is wonderful and the ambience is remarkable. I've eaten there over a dozen times and it's always top quality and consistent. I strongly recommend their fried flounder, it's some of the best I've ever had. They get pretty busy in the summertime and can be busy any time of the year. Their liquor selection is good, although a bit pricey and their beer selection could probably use a little work, but then again I live in Asheville, where we are very spoiled for beer selection. Great food here. From making reservations to their delicious brownie for dessert. During the summer it is best to make a reservation. We arrived by boat and were there upon their opening for the evening so no problem finding a spot. If you arrive by boat it is a bit of a walk around to the front door so be mindful of this if you have someone with you that has a hard time walking. Upon entering we were taken to our table right away. I enjoyed the Rib-eye and hubby enjoyed Filet of Flounder Fried. We both are risotto fans and their Parmesan Risotto is delicious! We went to the Galley for the first time a few weeks before Christmas. Was it the best food I've ever had? No, but it was very, very good! I had the prime rib and shrimp and it was delicious. My salad was crisp, cold and fresh. I don't remember our servers name unfortunately, but she was excellent. She was attentive and although they were really busy, we waited on nothing. Their food is more reasonably priced than many other restaurants around Anderson. I look forward to going back again and really like that we can go by boat this summer. read more

HORRIBLE service from everyone who wasn't our server. We had a 5:30 reservation and they had us standing around looking at a dozen empty booths just to sit us at the sushi bar 7 minutes later. Huge mistake on my part for allowing this. Another couple walked in behind us and was told 10-15min wait so we might as well not have even made a reservation. Not only that, but the guy running the sushi bar was extremely off-putting and arrogant. He stepped in between me and my fiancee to show her 'the way we eat sushi in Japan' (he was white). He made my woman EXTREMELY uncomfortable and then proceeded to belittle me by handing me kiddie tweezers for chopsticks that I NEVER asked for because I know how to use chopsticks. The amount of disrespect we were shown at a place that claims to be upscale was absolutely unacceptable. This place needs nee management ASAP. We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Galley. The Maine lobster was bigger than expected and cooked to perfection. Service was fast and friendly. The younger staff still need some improvement, but they were great. Never go back to the kitchen empty handed. Always pick up anything on the floor. We will be back! read more

Tonight was our first time dining here and boy what a surprise! Our drinks were great. The Brussel sprouts appetizer was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Our entrees were absolutely amazing and the squash casserole was some of the best I've ever had. Our server, Emili, was the cherry on top of a near perfect meal. She was informative and sweet and patient with us being first time patrons. We will definitely be back and will recommend that our friends come and dine here as well! read more

This is one of the best hidden gems in the whole Anderson area. The food is outstanding with the select dinner items they offer. Service has been excellent with our server taking great care of us, and even checking on specific ingredients made in dishes for us. With my husband's allergies to certain things such as sesame oil, sesame seeds, and certain seafood, it can be challenging to order sometimes. But they went above & beyond to meet my husband's needs. The dining areas are especially nice, with simple decor with certain areas having a view of the lake makes for a great date nite setting. We highly recommend The Galley Restaurant- but have patience if you don't make a reservation first. Most likely you won't get in! But make it and you'll find it very worthwhile for the food, service, environment and not overpriced either for a nice upscale restaurant. read more

We live just around the corner here so it's any easy pick sometimes but there's nothing I just have to go here for. (Maybe I haven't found it yet). Their sushi is decent, although like many places in the south there are far too many rolls that have cream cheese in them. Disgusting. We have had grilled fish here that was delicious. I think it was swordfish. We love their stuffed mushroom appetizer. Overall the food is great quality and the restaurant is nice and clean. But, mostly for us it's just close by and that's why we go. The wait staff is usually pretty young so make sure they get your drink order right. They don't know the difference between a manhattan and a fruity cocktail. read more

Love the bartenders! We dine here at the bar often, and we have tempered our expectations. Once in a while I'm delighted. Last night I tried the swordfish special. What a fatal error on my part. It was horrible. I'm not even going to describe it because it's actually emotionally harming me to remember. If you go here, don't expect amazing food. Y'all need a new chef in the galley! My first time going, went on a Sat night and let's just say the only thing that I enjoyed was the drink special I got. The food for the price is terrible. I have had better meals at Outback! Scallops were not cooked well, bland taste. Mushrooms were ok I guess. My wife got the filet, probably a choice cut rather than prime. It was dry (not sure how you dry out a filet ... but they managed to do it), also they forgot to include the pecan sauce with it. I guess the sauce was to help with it being so dry but my wife never got hers. This place is way over priced for what you get. read more

This place is wonderful. My mom and I went and got sushi and filet mignon which were both incredible. The servers were helpful and attended to our every need and of course the view was amazing. The food and atmosphere was great! However, I blame management for placing extra tables on an already overworked bartender / server. Our server was not able to adequately take care of her additional tables due to the volume of customers at the bar as well as all of the drink orders from the rest of the restaurant. The Galley has been an iconic staple in our community for many years and I hope management sees the room for small changes to better serve or customers as well as your employees. read more

The Galley doesn't disappoint. Had the same entre I've had a year ago this date. Taste as good as I've had it in 2018. Portion may had shrunk with the different plating style. Ah tricks of the trade.
