Mal's (short for Mallory) Krazy Krab is a family run business in a less than ideal location. It is off the main road in what seems like a business park, not somewhere you would expect to find a restaurant. I say less than ideal because you can't see the storefront from the main road, so they don't really have any exposure to nearby vehicular traffic and the signage is easy to miss. [ THE EXPERIENCE ] Mal's offers both fried & boiled seafood items and on our first visit we tried both. The FRIED CATFISH & SHRIMP PLATTER #1 includes two perfectly golden flaky fillets, six shrimp, fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. Excellent flavor in the breading of the catfish & shrimp, however, the coleslaw and hush puppies were just average, and the fries can be hit or miss. Since that first visit, I have come back three more times! Each time we were greeted by Miss Maurice, a kind, extremely hospitable and down to earth server that will make you feel like a member of the family. Service is unexpectedly fast considering she basically ran the entire dining room alone on three of our four visits. Here are all the items we've tried: [ THE FOOD ] * MAL'S KRAZY BOILED PLATTER #2 2 clusters of snow crab legs, 8 shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn and boiled eggs. The seasoning of the boil was very good, but a tad salty. It seemed to me salt was added after the dish was plated and it honestly didn't need it. Overall, it was still very tasty, just something I thought I should note. (4 stars) * FRIED MUSHROOM APPETIZER Very good and plentiful. The house-made remoulade sauce made them even better. (4 stars) * FRIED CATFISH & SHRIMP PLATTER #1 By the third visit Catfish & Shrimp had become my staple meal. It is so me of the best fried fish and shrimp I've had anywhere. It is very apparent Mal changes her cooking oil often. The fried foods don't have a heavy greasy taste and have been perfectly golden every visit. (5 stars) * FRIED CLAM STRIPS So good! Perfectly breaded, perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried. (4.5 stars) * FRIED LOBSTER TAIL ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! A must try! (5+ stars) DISLIKES: The only items I'm not a huge fan of are the corn on the cob, cole slaw and the french fries. PRO TIP: Come for lunch! The specials are very reasonably priced!!! [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] The entire staff welcomes everyone with a strong sense of "glad you are here". They were eager to correct any errors and on each & every visit insisted we come back real soon! Surely they will be in business for many years to come with their combination of great food and welcoming service! Mal's restaurant has quickly and easily become my FAVORITE place to eat in Monroe. I got the catfish and fries platter. I ordered on door dash and got there within 12 mins and waited an additional 5 mins so not bad on wait time. The fish was very good! Very fresh and perfectly fried and seasoned. The fries were seasoned very generously. I'm not a fan of Cajun seasoning on my fries but if you are then you'll definitely enjoy it. Next time i would just ask for light seasoning. I also enjoyed the coleslaw, it helped to tone down the seasoning on the fries lol. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They greeted me as soon as i arrived and followed up on my wait time. I'll definitely be back for the crab legs! read more

This this is my favorite seafood place. I love your fried catfish. Had lunch a few days ago had lunch a few days ago with my daughter. She loved the fried catfish. I was a little disappointed with walking on a floor that my feet were sticking to the floor. Your cleanup crew is not taken care of this matter using some grease release would probably solve this problem. read more

This place is the true definition of a Hidden Gem. Mal's is tucked away in a little shopping center...no bright lights or signs, but boy are we glad we found it. I'll start with the food. The kids got the usual...chicken tenders and fries. (They are not usually very experimental.) But to my shock, they both enjoyed the alligator bites right along with their usual fare. We two adults shared the Big Eats Platter and thought we needed an extra side of both corn and potatoes, but our server Katrina was smart enough to wait until the platter came to let us have a look before she put the order in for the extras. Needless to say, we DID NOT need the extra sides. The portions were very generous. (I wish I had thought to take a picture of the food before we dove into it. The picture here is OF THE LEFTOVERS!) We got the spicy seasoning, and it is delicious....not overwhelmingly spicy and a fantastic flavor. I also love the fact that Mal sends her boiled platters out with plenty of melted butter...no need to scrape a little plastic ramekin or to ask for more. Again, they don't skimp. Now, to the people. What a fantastic group of ladies we got to meet. Mal, her Auntie, and Katrina were all as sweet as the fabulous iced tea they served us. Salt of the earth kind of folks that are such a pleasure to talk to and who know how to make their guests feel welcomed, at home, and very full. If you find yourself in the Monroe area (pronounced Mun-row by the locals ) and are very hungry for a down-home seafood boil, I highly recommend Mal's. I will be back to try the other dishes. The food and service was great. Very pleased will definitely go back. Our waitress was the best we've had in a long time.

So so so delicious! To start, the staff there was super friendly. Our server was a sweet older woman (I didn't catch her name), and my husband and I instantly loved her. We had the hush puppies and remoulade sauce to start and ohhhhh my god. They were fresh and crispy and the remoulade sauce was INSANE. It was mustardy and zesty, I could eat it on its own with a spoon. We both got the platters with crab clusters, shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn and it was so delicious. I've had a lot of crab legs in my life and this is the first time I had them where I didn't need butter to dip it in, the seasoning in the boil actually seasoned the meat. I am not a sausage lover but the sausage was smoky and a little spicy and I ate it all. The potatoes were chopped up white potatoes instead of red ones, which I prefer, and fell apart in the best way. My husband also raved about the corn. The cost was less than we expected too.
