I've never really eaten anything here besides the fries but today my husband and I were in the mood for burgers while we were downtown and this is the only place that we could go without having to pay $25 for parking. The service was great, they were very accommodating and everything came out super hot and fresh. The burger was delicious with nice crispy edges, and the bun was hot fresh and toasted. I love how the cheese was melted, nothing worse than a cheeseburger with a solid piece of cheese. My fried mushrooms were excellent, definitely had to let them sit for a minute because the first one burned my mouth, but I was so hungry. I was ready to eat. They have a great outdoor seating area with big screen TVs to watch sports and a big playground for the kids to wear themselves out. The only thing I'm not crazy about is how rusty things are, I have a weird thing with rust so if you are not a fan of rusty chairs and tables maybe bring a blanket?

Not particularly friendly-one sullen bartender took our order. Food was slow coming out, and then the two burgers we ordered were so charred with black, they were crunchy! We had already paid and waited, so didn't bother to complain. Just ate our fries and what was edible in the middle of the burgers and left.

Friendly Spot is well...Friendly! Great outdoor spot to hang out and have a beverage or two while the doggos relax or the kids play on the slide. The margs are very good and they have an excellent selection of beers. The service is surprisingly fast and helpful. Overall the menu is limited but that is expected and they still have enough options to find something yummy to eat. I always suggest the fries and buffalo wings

What a fantastic spot! We came for an after dinner drink and I'm visiting family m. I'm loving the vibes! Outside seating and a big screen! The bartenders were great and they have a playground! Where was this when my kids were little? Love this place!

Casual spot where you can watch a game outside and grab some picky food/drinks! We usually stop here for the friend pickles before walking over to a bar -- great location close to downtown! My only pet peeve is charging for sauce when you order wings or nuggets lol what am I gonna dip it in ?! Anyways, great spot to chill still!

I have not been here in years! It is still the same! I love it! Not much to say: Come by, get a good draft beer and Chill-the-F-UP!!! 1) Beer is fresh. You will fine one you like. 2) Food is available and good... don't forget where you are at ... don't expect 5-Star cuisine. 3) Staff is friendly and very accommodating. 4) They take cards and cash. Overall, love the place. Come by and stop for a beverage... you have earned it and deserve it! Cheers!

Solid 3.5 stars for a great place with great brews. Outdoor hangout spots that kid friendly. They have beers on tap and beers in a can. During the winter (it's SA in December so, take that for what its worth), we picked this spot to get two families together. It is very easy to find, and during this the middle of the week with the smaller Bowl games getting some action, there is plenty of street parking nearby. The staff is friendly. The 'Spot wasn't manned only enough to serve the few folks that were there. What does that mean? For today, they asked for a lot of patience as they were balancing food orders in the back and one or two folks at the bar. As the temperature dropped we had to go for some sweaters and blankets in the car. It wasn't that cold, but heat lamps did not have gas in the tanks... so, they weren't available. We asked once, but they never came back... We tried some of their food. We tried the egg rolls. Let me say the effort was there... the food was warm, but the sauce was better than the egg rolls. I wasn't too impressed. So, I might pass on these. I ordered some boneless wings, which weren't too bad, but they were not anything to write home about. The Friendly Friend Chicken sammie was good. The Friendly burger was okay. All in all the best thing about the bar was the brews (or mixed drinks), not the food. That aside, it's a fine place to watch some football, basketball or other choice of sports on the big screen. A nice place to hang out and drink some beer... I might wait until it starts to warm up to get to this place. It is family friendly and dog friendly. It's a good 'Spot, but tonight wasn't their best night. I would try it out again.

This is a fun spot to hang out & watch some sports games. The menu isn't huge but plenty of drink selections available. Its not a classy place, just a chill hang out spot. The workers were very nice and prices are fair. This is an outdoor place so dress accordingly for the weather.

While the parking situation is less than ideal (street parking), I really enjoyed watching the UT football game on their big screen.

It was okay. If you have kids and visit during the day, this may not be the best option. Looks like a fun drinking spot in the evenings. We went in the middle of the day on a Saturday. There is zero shade. They have umbrellas at each table, but you are still getting straight sun rays. You will sit in your sweat. They do have a small play area but it's all dirt and loose gravel so if your kids happen to be in sandals which mine where, they will end up filthy. We ordered burgers, they were so overcooked and dry, they do not come with any lettuce tomatoes or pickles, literally just the bun and patty, for $15 which is crazy. We didn't have the best time at all. But again, if your single or without kids and come in the evening I'm sure it's a great time

Great spot in Southtown to catch a game. It's great for families and there is a play area that will keep the kids busy for a while! Further back is a covered area with plenty of fans.

This is a large dog and family friendly spot with a very large patio and playground. We brought our dogs here and they had a good time. There was a small crowd, as it was a weekday afternoon but the drink I ordered was good, don't quite remember the name but it was refreshing and tasty. They have lots of TVs playing college sports so it's a good place to watch a game. Their food menu is straightforward bar food. The service was friendly. I might come back if I'm in town.

Light dish. Tc double cheese burger: very strong flavors, somewhat sweet. Dense/heavy dish . Our waiter was quick and friendly. The restaurant lighting was dimmed and gave a more intimate /bar environment. I think the ac was broken here because it was very warm and they had fans going on around the room. I think this place would be good for someone who is prefers an American fusion cuisine that leans heavily on the western style dishes. The fusion elements were cute but I still left unsatisfied but still full. We did not park. We walked here right from the river walk. Not a bad place to go if you arrive in town after 9 pm.

For her second drink, she told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a look and asked more than once if she was sure she wanted him to surprise her. Instead of making her an actual cocktail, he poured her what seemed to be a straight, extremely bitter liqueur. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I hope management sees this and addresses it, because the concept of the place is great, but the way we were treated completely ruined it for us

On that occasion, the…read morevenue was exceptionally busy, and the sole bartender on duty informed us he was covering for an absent colleague. Despite the staff shortage, we placed a significant order for at least ten drinks. My husband had made a reservation for 6:00 PM. However, at approximately 7:30 PM, after we had already placed our drink order, a staff member informed my husband that our table reservation was only valid for two hours. Concerned about the impending two-hour limit and the delay in receiving our drinks, which had still not arrived by 7:45 PM, we inquired with our bartender about potentially canceling our order. He reassured us, stating that other tables were available should additional patrons arrive. Our subsequent visit, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, was solely with my husband. We arrived punctually, approximately five minutes before our 7:30 PM reservation. A female bartender directed us to a small, two-person table, despite the presence of two larger, seemingly more comfortable, unoccupied tables nearby. While initially assuming these larger tables might be reserved for a bigger party, the selection felt somewhat restrictive given the availability. Our seating unfortunately placed us adjacent to another patron who was using an additional chair to prop up her footwear, which contributed to an unpleasant atmosphere. The bartender then approached our table and asked if it was our first time, to which we replied it was not. She then asked if we knew what we wanted to order. We requested a brief moment to review the menu. However, we then waited for approximately fifteen minutes for her to return. Eventually, my husband had to actively call her over to place our order. Our initial drinks arrived after another ten to fifteen minutes. Subsequently, my husband attempted to catch the bartender's attention to order another round and request water. However, she was engaged in a lengthy conversation, estimated at ten minutes, with the neighboring patron and proceeded to walk past our table without acknowledging us. This extended period of being overlooked led to considerable frustration for my husband, who then felt compelled to approach the main bar directly to place our order and obtain water from a different bartender. It was only after this that the initial female bartender finally approached our table, asking if we needed anything. Considering the relatively small size of the establishment and the fact that there were only three occupied tables at the time, the level of inattentive and delayed service was particularly disappointing and, frankly, perplexing.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)
