Not so friendly at the friendly fox. Had co-workers recommend going here and was sadly disappointed with our service. Asked for a water and iced latte. Never received a water or a straw. My mom asked for more coffee to the person that brought our food and it was slammed on the table like we were an inconvenience. Server ask how our food was and ran before we could barely say anything or ask for anything. We will stick with the dash in. Please train your staff on how to have better customer service. read more

Our party tried tried the feta dip appetizer, a California wrap, the Fox Special, the Italian sub, and a turkey bacon panini. Where to start with this place. We went in to be seated. For one. It's over crowed with to many tables. Big round tables. I like the coffee cup method they do. Feels at home. My server was a young man. Maybe early20's. We asked to wait for lunch which was ten minutes away. I guess we pissed him off. He brought our drinks and didn't come back. He didn't even bother to bring my 3 year olds drink. So we waited about 30 minutes after lunch started. We got so annoyed we got up to leave. The server didn't address us again. He told the cashier they had two drinks. Not why are you leaving nor blah blah. Like wtf. The worst services I've had in a long time. We legit got pissed. Couldn't believe it. Like wow. Let's not spend any money here. I was so mad I didn't leave a tip. I served for ten years. So for me to not even leave a dollar is rare. Learn to be kind. The friendly fox is a great name for a coffee shop. Especially when it is in the middle of a neighborhood and bakes it's own treats on site. I loved all the cute fox branding of everything. The building was brink with a nice big patio and the workers were all really nice. I didn't have time to sit here and enjoy everything but I did pick up 30 pastries and enjoy them later. Came in for brunch with some friends. The staff were friendly and welcoming and helped us find a table. Our waitress Kendra was lovely. I love the cozy atmosphere and even though it was crowded it didn't feel crowded or too loud. We had an array of food. Everyone loved what they got. The tomato soup was different but so good! Honestly the quality is really good for the price. I also had a dirty chai which was done nicely, some places make really weak chai. Super cute mugs, bare brick walls, avocado galore, it's a hipster wonderland ;). Without being snooty though. Also get a cheesecake. So good. read more

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and were lucky to find a little gem! It wasn't too busy and the outside patio area was wonderfully shaded with a nice breeze. The food was all made fresh in house, with fresh bread on all the different sandwiches and fold overs which were so so yummy! You can find street parking pretty easy in the residential area. The vibe is trendy and unique, with mismatched chairs and tables. You can also find local art hung on the walls. The staff is a younger crowd and they a super friendly. You can choose to order at the counter to-go or pick a seat and they will take care of you at your table. I recently stopped in with a friend for a late afternoon coffee. I decided to order a spiced chai tea and my friend went with a salted caramel latte. Don't they sound delicious? Well, they tasted just as good as they sound! We decided not to eat but they had a variety of baked goods behind the glass counter and the food they were taking to tables looked delicious. This is the perfect spot to nestle up with a good book, meet a friend for a coffee/beer, or just stop in for a bite to eat. We had breakfast waiting for our daughter who was running the 1/2 marathon. Just want to say we are from Chicago and we thought our breakfast and coffee were amazing Husband and boyfriend had biscuits and gravy. My husband cooks and bakes so he knew the biscuits were homemade. I had the Feta cheese,spinach and mushroom breakfast sandwich--so delicious. And prices were so reasonable. We went for breakfast so my review is limited to that meal & experience. My wife and I really liked this quaint little place. The restaurant is set in a quiet neighborhood. The building is older but well maintained and decorated with a fresh modern-artsy feel. We sat in the back room which wasn't as exciting as the street level view from the front room. For breakfast I had the biscuits & gravy and the chorizo breakfast sandwich. The biscuits were homemade and fresh with a sweeter taste. The gravy was thick and dark. The taste nicely accented the biscuit. This came with potato cubes which also had a nicely oiled/sautéed taste. The egg-chorizo sandwich had a nice chorizo taste that wasn't over powering. My wife had the veggie sandwich which she really liked on he Weight-Watcher diet. The sandwiches came with tasty fresh fruit. The wait staff and shift manager were very friendly. Friendly Fox has the best ice cream around. It is all made in house and they switch up the flavors often but they are all amazing! I also got a grilled cheese and tomato soup once that as simple as it sounds it was pretty darn tasty. Fun atmosphere in a cute part of town. read more

Don't know what some of the negative reviews were about! We were greeted and seated immediately, had a friendly server (Becky), and our brunch was less than $10/each! Loved the cute decor and unique tables/chairs...a lot of them had me reminiscing of the yellow Formica table set we had growing up. My only "complaint" would be that my avocado toast was supposed to be buttered but came without butter and could've used salt which was not on the table. The place was a little hard to find, as it's on a side street without a parking lot, but I'm glad we stopped in. Would def visit again! read more

The Friendly Fox is a super cool spot nestled into the Southwood Park Neighborhood. A great, walkable cafe for everyone in their hood. It is literally in the middle of residential housing but don't worry it is hard to miss. Nice little outdoor patio- dog friendly. I have enjoyed a casual lunch with a friend outside and received great service. Sometimes outdoor seating is neglected on accident by servers so it was nice to be taken care of so well. More recently I enjoyed a snickers latte while waiting for a few friends to arrive. I asked my server to whip me up something random and I was definitely not disappointed! Who doesn't want to drink a liquid candy bar?! My friends were running behind schedule, so I was hanging out on my laptop for about 1.5 hours until they arrived. The servers didn't seem to mind at all that I was taking up a table during lunch hour. Once they arrived we ordered some lunch. I went for the buffalo chicken wrap. YUM. This wrap was spicy but I was still tasting all the other flavor going on. My friend enjoyed a flavored tea and he loved it. With him being from the South I figured it must've been the real deal. Overall The Friendly Fox is a great little cafe, great service, great atmosphere. If I lived in the Southwood Park neighborhood this would definitely be my spot. read more

Super friendly service, good music, and cool interior all make you feel comfortable. We were here on a rainy Saturday at lunch. Kinda bummed we missed brunch (ends at 11am). We got veggie grilled cheese panini with a side of corn chowder, turkey bacon sandwich which had a walnut pesto so they don't make it a panini (as it's listed on the menu), a veggie wrap and some egg rolls. All dishes were well plated. I love the mixed matched cups. It's an easy going place to chill. I recommend you give it a try. The cinnamon rolls looked great. If there were "half stars" I would go with 3 1/2. The room was a little chilly, but not terrible. The appetizer was crostini bread with a hot cheese, cranberry and nut dip. Very very good. My daughters salad ( walnuts, feta, arugula, vinaigrette) was tastefully arranged and a very nice sized serving. I got a 4 cheese grilled cheese panini that came with chips, it was hot, chewy and very tasty. We got a salted caramel latte and an espresso malt for our beverages and they were very good , the espresso malt could've been a wee bit more coffee tasting. All in all a nice lunch. Waitstaff was a little loud and outspoken, yelling across the restaurant to everyone coming in the door which I didn't love.....but I'm old, so maybe it doesnt bother young'uns. ;-). Every time I have visited, the staff has been friendly and accommodating. I appreciate how seriously they are taking the precautions related to Covid-19, requiring all customers to wear masks when entering the building to order. The Friendly Fox is a model of the neighborhood restaurant: it feels like an institution, and it's clear from the moment you enter that people there really look at it as a part of their community. This is a wonderful function on its own, but The Friendly Fox also has a wide variety of consistently excellent foods, from easily-boring offerings like salads and paninis to housemade desserts and unique milkshakes. I've never had a bad dish at The Friendly Fox. The first dish I ever had there was phyllo goodness - a warm pastry filled with gouda and chorizo on avocado cream. It's a great starter, spicy and creamy with a nice cool accompaniment. They also have tasty (if non-traditional) egg rolls, which have a nice, clean flavor. All the salads at The Friendly Fox are tasty, and they offer a nice variety even if they aren't especially singular or unique. If you add roasted chicken - which does genuinely taste like fresh, roasted chicken rather than a batch of old unused chicken - the salads easily become a filling meal. The bulk of the rest of their menu is made up of paninis, and they have a nice selection with some unexpected selections like brisket or bacon jam and avocado. I will say that their soups leave something to be desired, perhaps because you expect a place with this kind of atmosphere to have really savory, delicious soups. I'd opt for chips or a salad to accompany a panini instead. It's also worth noting the family-friendliness of this restaurant: you'll almost certainly see families and small children any times you're there, and the staff is very accommodating of these potential challenges. The Friendly Fox also has a singularly excellent bathroom for families: it is big and nicely composed, and even has a padded changing table. That says a lot about what The Friendly Fox wants to do. Some people think the service is a little cold or distant, and while the staff can be aloof at times, they are helpful and seem dedicated to the goals of the restaurant. One last note about their desserts. The Friendly Fox has a case front and center filled with pastries, and their sweet offerings are excellent. They make their own ice cream cookies with huge chocolate cookies and oreo crumbles (my favorite), and my wife just has to have their confetti cookie shake, which tastes like a perfectly blended sugar cookie. The staff is so nice and it feels like your right at home inside, theres even an outside area where you can bring your dog!!!
