In 2009, on the first night I tried to meet the leasing agent of the first one-bedroom apartment I rented after moving to Boston, this laundromat was a landmark after I exited the B line train. On the second night, when I braved the roads and drove so the train wouldn't make me late for the appointment, the landmark was a different Brighton laundromat, a review of which is forthcoming because of how badly I was recently treated there. In 2012, I successfully washed and dried laundry here. Much has changed in Brighton since then, and not for the better. Since today marked my third or fourth negative experience here since a move back in 2018, and I didn't share the first ones, here's the review I owe you, fellow seekers of value: The machine that vends detergent, bleach, fabric softener, and laundry bags doesn't work. Management has thoughtfully posted a sign, which you can see in the first of the two photos that accompany this review, warning that it doesn't accept Apple Pay. What they've inexcusably refrained from telling you, however, is that your Discover and Visa credit and debit cards will be declined, too. Per the instructions on the machine, I tapped these two payment methods in succession when the first one I tried didn't work. When that failed, I tried swiping them, then looked in vain for a place to insert cash, concluded that The Found Sock didn't want my business, and, finally, left. (An eco-consciousness-related disclaimer: Typically, I don't buy the products sold in these machines because they're not the eco-friendly ones. The one here was no exception. But, due to circumstances too crazy to detail here, my detergent was locked in a storage unit I'd forgotten the key to, and this wasn't a job I could postpone until another day. I debated about buying a new container of detergent at the nearby Whole Foods for the purposes of this wash, but have to live in spaces too unstable and on a budget too small to make it wise to have an extra one sitting around.) Wondering about those aforementioned other negative experiences at this laundromat? In 2021 and/or 2022, my Discover Card was declined by the payment processing device on a washing machine, despite there being no problem with the card, which I'd used successfully elsewhere on the same night, and an image of it as an accepted payment method being displayed on the machine. I think I overcame this by using another machine and paying with a debit card. After I paid for the wash with my debit card, I found that the dryer would allow me to use the card to add increments of time no greater than two minutes to its cycle. When my efforts to find an employee on duty failed, I was forced to stand beside the machine and try every button-pressing maneuver I could think of to get it to allow me to add reasonable amounts of drying time. To no avail. Another machine, which incorrectly forms the plural of the dollar bill denominations, appears to dispense debit cards specific to this laundromat. While I flagged it for its incorrect use of apostrophes in the second photo in this review, taken on 2019/04/30, I can't attest to whether it's operational, or, like the laundry supply dispenser, seemingly only mounted on a wall to perpetuate the illusion that this business is able to serve customers. If your time is valuable, seek another laundromat. read more

I have had issues with each type of washer in this place. Top loading, front loading, and Electrolux. My clothes are barely washed in these machines. The machines themselves aren't cleaned and leave dirt residue and stains on your clothes. - The place is not clean. - You can't get in contact with customer service. - If you use Apple Pay, this machines charge you more than what is advertised (a $3.50 wash was $5 when I used Apple Pay) - You can not get a receipt after adding money to your "loyalty card." - I had a load of my clothing stolen from the washer! When I contacted customer service, the same day, I got no response. Since there's 24-7 surveillance cameras, I thought the company or owner might be able to help me, but they have been unavailable by phone and through their "contact us" section on their website. This place is not the way it should be. Beware you'll waste your time and money here. Sorely disappointed. read more

Update 0/5 total because they are thieves. I'll elaborate: Swiped my card on two different occasions where the card reader on the machine took my money, but the machine remained inactive. Used a different machine, everything worked fine. Called the number posted in the laundromat for questions or concerns. No answer. Left a reasonable voicemail with my contact info explaining the situation and requesting a refund. No response. If you pay for a product or service and do not receive it, that is theft. Doesn't matter if it's $2 or $2000. I called the bank and was told the amount that Found Sock charges to bank cards is inconsistent with what the Found Sock machines say is being charged. That's illegal. Maybe they stole enough to afford a decent lawyer. read more

My clothes came out dirty. They went in dirty, and they came out dirty. I think there was a piece of poop in one of the washing machines, which I picked out . It could have been dirt... but i washed my hands like 17 times when i got home. My eardrums were busted by two screeching children. Four out of the 16 washers were out of order. It costs TWO DOLLARS per shitty load. I have to go back to dry the clothes.. though maybe I'll string up some sort of laundry line in my apartment to avoid giving these slumlords more money. There is NO EMPLOYEE THERE. That's right - if you have a problem, you can use the pay phone to call the manager, but don't call for a refund or regarding a broken machine - they only take written refund requests stuck in the mail slot. One star for closeness, and for a change machine that works. And because that's the minimum Yelp allows. Though this place is less than a block away, I would be willing to take a bus to get to a better place to clean my clothes. Good thing I have a car. read more

They stole my clothes from here!!! TWICE!! I made the mistake to leave my clothes unsupervised. When I went to pick them up I noticed someone stole some of my clothes.. in two different occasions. I never went back to that laundromat again. The laundromat is always dirty, the machines are broken and not to mention they not even wash. You go in with your clothes dirty and leave with your clothes still dirty if of course nobody steals them.. Do yourself a favor and go across the street to the laundromat. $2 for wash, $.25 for 8 minutes of dry. There is a change machine that'll break $1, $5, $10. Just your generic old laundromat. Not super clean, but not super dirty either. Open from 6am to 10pm. If you're interested in marginally more personal service, there's a dry cleaner/laundromat just across the street, next to the Thai place. It occasionally has a real human but is also a little more expensive. read more

Admittedly, I was a bit mad when I first went in after the reno and saw that the prices were doubled. However, the previous reviewer was right: the machines are bigger, better, and more efficient - therefore costing less at the end. It's still more expensive than the "old" Found Sock (that one dryer that was 10 mins/quarter was gold), but it's less than the little place across Comm Ave. We used to use 3 washers & 2 dryers for 60 mins, and now we used 2 washers & 2 dryers for 30 mins, which came out to about $11 for a week's worth of work & gym clothes for 2 people. All that being said - it was completely empty on a Sunday afternoon. Dear new owners: every loyal Found Sock customer (and the place was always packed before, so there were many) is probably turned off by the sticker prices. You're not likely to get them back unless you drop the cost a little bit, hold an event "grand opening" sale, or do SOMETHING... No one in this neighborhood is just going to shell out more for laundry bc you put in the nice seating area. Good luck! PS - Sign on the door should say "surveillance", not "survivance". I hate this place. It's a filthy dump. Every time I go there, several machines have "out of order signs" on them. Out of the machines that are functioning, some work better than others. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. This place is just terrible. There is one redeeming consideration; When one of the machines takes your money (and then doesn't work), you can fill out a little form, drop it in the mail slot, and then get money in the mail fairly quickly. If you can find a different laundromat, use it. This place is really, really terrible. Again, I hate this place. read more

Three stars for proximity. Zero stars for goodness. Seriously, this place blows, but it's on my block and it's empty at the times I like to do laundry. Also, I'm the kind of launderer who leaves my stuff, goes for a walk, then goes back for it. So far, no one has stolen my clothes, and I've even accidentally left them overnight - twice. Warning: Watch your clothes in the dryer. One of their broken machines almost caused a fire and ruined a load of clothes and sheets. One extra star because they paid for the clothes--after much nagging and several weeks, when my husband managed to catch someone who worked there and showed him how broken the machine was. I immediately went out and got a wonder wash and only go there now when absolutely necessary. read more

The Found Sock recently reopened after changing ownership, and the renovations went wonderfully. All of the washers and dryers are new, there's seating, there's free WiFi, and it looks a bit cleaner overall. Prices are steeper for front load washers ($4?!) but I got out for less money overall; the top loaders are roomier and fit what would've been two loads at the old Found Sock in just one ($3.25). Dryers are the same as they were before management changed price wise, which is expensive ($.25 for just 4 minutes), but the dryers work way better now, so it might even out. The biggest change may be that the machines are NOT coin op anymore, all credit card and Apple Pay. The instructions for working the dryers could be clearer, but it's a convenient change. Happy this place is back! read more

I've been coming here for about a year, as it is pleasant in the colder months and the prices are reasonably competitive, but for the last few months the card readers in the machine have been extremely unreliable, frequently forcing you to wait for three to four minutes only to then inform you that there is "no connection," requiring you to dig all your dirty laundry out of the machine and try a different one. Also, as the space is not air conditioned and is occupied by a whole wall of dryers, the sitting area has been intolerably hot since June. read more

I've been coming here off and on since I moved to Boston last September. I do have a laundromat in my apartment complex but if I didn't have quarters then I would come to Found Sock to use their machines instead. It was also more convenient since I could do it all at one time. Today was the first day that I stopped in since the reno. At first I was happy to see an actual waiting area. The place has improved drastically. I had taken the time to get cash last week so was a little disappointed to see that there's no longer a coin machine. But I thought, "Hey, at least I won't have to mess with cash in the future." But then I saw that one load is $3.25. Uh, no. It is true that the machines are larger but there should be a mixture of smaller machines for $1.50-$2.00 and the larger capacity machines. Since I live alone, I typically have one load of each color. So maybe I could do two loads in one machine but I really have no desire to mix my towels with my regular clothes just because the prices are outrageous for a normal size load. I live very close to this laundromat, and since the washer and dryer in my building doesn't work to best I would just come here. At first it was great, I didn't have any problems. But now I'm having a huge issue with the laundromat. I went to do my laundry and the machines sporadically stopped working once I tried to put a second load of laundry in a different washer. I had about four loads to do, while one was already on a 25 minute cycle. Each machine I tried my card at, it said my card was declined. I thought this was very weird since one worked before for me. I then tried different cards, thinking my bank put up a block for some reason, but every single card was being declined. I even called my bank because I thought it was an issue with my card, and he said the charges actually went through on my account! I took me about 3 hours to do usually a hour worth of laundry because I had to constantly guess and check the washers and dryers. I then reached out to the laundromat's customer service and they have not answered any of my calls. Also, I have emailed them about this issue plenty of times and I still have not received a response. I have over $20.00 in charges that this owner won't even address! They have such poor customer service, I wouldn't recommend this Laundromat to anyone! read more
