The is a reason the place is always filled with people - the food choices are fresh, delicious, generous in portion, a value for the money, and the staff friendly. The decor is simple, yet warm and welcoming. This place has a great vibe. I have had the pleasure of eating at this fine establishment in North Adelaide a few times. The first couple of times I went there was simply for coffee and a bagel (under $10). The flat white has been stunning and the bagel is probably the best I've found in Adelaide. To be sure it's not as good as the bagels in NYC, but given the effort it is pretty good. You must ask to have it slices and/or toasted too. Otherwise and come straight out of the display case and can be a little bit cold tonthe touch. A major disappointment is that there is only one type offered, white bread poppyseeds; I would like to see an 'everything' bagel, or an onion bagel, or even pumpernickel bagel. Please add more variety!!
The last time that I went it was for a late lunch with a friend. I ordered the Rueben sandwich and she ordered the open faced steak on toasted bread. The corn beef on my Ruben is quite possibly the best I've ever had anywhere hands down. The portion was generous and the meat extremely lean and very flavourful. The sandwich had just a touch of dressing and very finely chopped sauerkraut. The problem with Ruben sandwiches oftentimes is that the corned beef is too fatty and the dressing is too much and this, in my opinion, overpowers the sandwich. This is not the case at The Flying Fig which makes and I was standing recommend to anyone any time period. read more
