This place was pretty much how everyone described it to me. The food is great and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Plus, there's nothing I hate more than going to a restaurant and staring at an empty coffee cup for a long time, but here they are very attentive and continued to give me water and coffee refills till I felt like I was going to explode. The only real complaint I have about The Fly Trap is that it's a bit disorganized trying to get a table. They don't take names, so you just kind of wait in line until a table becomes available. I've only been here once, but I look forward to coming back. I ordered the tofu pho because of the great things everyone said about it, and it lived up to my expectations. The broth was flavorful and savory, the veggies were fresh and the tofu was perfectly cooked. This is a tiny place, and you'll probably wait unless you go during an off-time. But it's worth the wait! So I tried The Fly Trap breakfast for the first time today after it was heavily recommended by my mom, a person who's taste buds I trust. And I must say, I was impressed! Loved it, food was sooo good. I ordered the B.L.A.T. + C omlet. It was filled with pepper bacon, spinach, tomato, avocado and cheddar cheese. The omlet was fluffy and tasty. It really is one of the best omlets I have had out at a restaurant. I tend not to order them because I think I can do it so much better at home. The breakfast potatoes were on point too. Crispy on the outside, nice flavor to them. Our waitress was pleasant, and she made sure my coffee stayed full. I will definitely be adding this to my list of breakfast places:). read more

A taste of heaven! Everything is fresh! If you get a chance check um out on youtube when they were on the food network channel. Everything I have ever got was outstanding! Mac and cheese YUMMMM! When I went the restaurant looked very busy so I knew their food must be good and worth waiting for it. I got my food quickly after calling to order and every item that I received was delicious. I forgot to take photos because I was in such a hurry and ate my dish before I got a chance to take a picture of it. I got the crab cakes with eggs on the side. It was the perfect amount of food for one person maybe even a little too much if you weren't as hungry as I was. The only reason I knew to check this place out is because of Food Network's Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives. What the restaurant doesn't have to spend on overhead (a small restaurant), they spend on the food. I love the decor, it really fits the kind of food they serve, unique dishes you can't find in other places. I had the Oreo shake and the Cheapsteak sandwich. The Oreo shake was ginormous, much bigger than you standard soda fountain shops. The Cheapsteak sandwich exceeded my expectations and then some. You can tell the meat was fresh and of high quality, not to mention it sits on top of a mound of fries. I finished half the sandwich and half the fries, and surprisingly, the sandwich reheated quite well. One complaint about the restaurant, the hours. Since I live about 40 minutes away, the only time I have available to make that trip is during the weekends. I'm sure they're doing just fine financially if they can close at 5pm. But seriously, who does that?! They can make so much more money if they opened til at least 7 or 8, because that's a great place to go to before hitting the bars. 5-stars for the spicy chili salmon burger - it was absolutely the best salmon burger sandwich I've ever had. You must have one of the members in your party order the salmon burger for y'all to try out. I also tried the Huevos Rancheros - also a very tasty (especially if you love black beans) dish. The Ensalada de Basura with its combination of black beans, tomatoes, avocado, cheddar, salad greens ,splashed with an Ancho honey vinaigrette is healthy, fresh and filling, The Veggie Rumble, eggs or tofu, roasted veggies, provolone, spinach, is fantastic for a mere $6.95. This is my first Yelp review EVER because of how frustrated and disappointed I was. I had such high expectations for this place because of the reviews! I called ahead to ask how long it would be for 3 people and they told me 15 minutes. I arrived 5 minutes later with 2 guests at noon on a Sunday, knowing it may take more than 15 minutes because it is primetime for brunch after all. We waited 45 minutes for a table, ordered immediately but then waited another 45 minutes for our food. Our food never came and our server never bothered to update us. We finally left at 1:50pm. Love this place, one of the best in Oakland County to go for brunch or lunch. If there is a long line, might want to try Toast or Mae's down the street, but if its short it will move quickly and eating at the bar is fun too. I have my favorites including Crab Cakes and Eggs and Huevos Rancheros. I have even purchased the awesome hot sauce (I like the Green Hornet over the Swat). Don't forget to check out the Special Board and try the Muffin of the Day. My only complaint is don't take-out food from here. I had the charmoula chicken and was offered their house sauces but the flavor of the meat and garlic aioli sauce was so good I didn't use any of their sauces for the sandwich. The Fly Trap is a great place to go for a delicious breakfast or lunch! It's a small, quirky place that makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. The food is usually delicious. I've had an occasional plate that was just okay to me, but their "okay" is awesome compared to some other places. On my most recent visit, I got The Boot, an omelette with basil, olives, tomatoes and mozzarella. It was awesome and with the addition of their hot sauce, it was even more tasty! I can't believe its been three years since my first and last visit! The place has been renovated and I loved what they've done with the place. It is twice as big so the wait is shorter. I heard it use to be a hassle getting a table. They now have two restrooms - one men and one women (big, spacious, clean). The entrance to the restaurant is in the back so if you were like me and went through the entrance on Woodward head over to the back. There is a big sign in sheet. The essence of the restaurant is there here since the renovations. Forgetting what I ordered I was contemplating between the boot and the green eggs and ham. I ordered the Green Eggs and Ham. So glad I did because I ordered the boot last time. Green Eggs and Ham: I really enjoyed everything on the plate except the ham. It was too salty for me. The potatoes were wonderful and just as tasty as I remembered except these potatoes are cut smaller than before. I think it just makes it cook faster. The eggs were tasty too. Havent been here for couple years and decided to come back. Very nice ambience, hipster, and plenty of cool arts on the walls. Also liking the music that plays here. Our server was on point and did a great job. My sis, bro in law and cousin all liked their food. I had the heuvos rancheros and the portion was huge. My only problem with it is there was too much beans and watery which made the tortilla soggy. Overall great place to get breakfast and brunch. Definitely will coming back here read more

The fly trap? Interesting name for a restaurant. It sparked my curiosity so I just had to try it. The decor matches its name really well, but I'm still not sure what a fly trap has to do with a restaurant. Oh well. Moving on to the food . . . On yelp, the pho bowl was mentioned a lot so of course, I had to try it. I wanted to see what the pho bowl was like at this place. Traditional pho has a lot of components to it. From the the plate of additional sprouts and condiments to the bottles of hoisin and sriracha, any type of pho needs to be consistent with tradition. When it came out, it was interesting to say the least. I didn't see any hot sauce or plate of sprouts. It had a lot of different vegetables in it and the noodles were close to that of pho. However the broth tasted more like that of the beef noodle soup you find in thai restaurants. Their beef noodle soup has a touch of lemongrass and so did this pho bowl. I can't say it was bad, but I can't say it was fabulous as well. I can definitely say thought that it wasn't like any pho that I tasted. The best dish for me was the salmon burger. Cooked well and sauces went perfectly with the salmon. It stayed together nicely and was cooked through and through. I can still taste the somewhat sour sauce that topped it off. Yummy. This place is pretty small so be prepared for a wait. I'm still not sure why this place is so famous, but maybe I'll come back someday and discover more items on the menu. read more

It's only fair that I update my review. Fly Trap's food is good! I guess my last review reflected the cook's mood on that particular day. I'd eaten there before, so the "not so good review" was surprising. Anyways, I had the chance to return and I actually got a behind the scenes look at the efforts, ingredients and handling of the food they serve. I MUST say that when these TINY establishments put out such GREAT product, I'm always baffled. The cooks work so HARD, NON STOP (VERY LITTLE DOWN TIME) to meet guests requests. The sauces, jellies/jams & gingerbread waffles are all homemade! As a matter of fact 95% of the menu is homemade. My tequila sunrise is ALWAYS on point.
