Located inside of the Togwotee Mountain Lodge off of Highway 26, most people coming off the…read moremountain pass might decide to keep going toward Jackson Hole unless you need gas or place to stay. I stayed a few nights at the Lodge since the hotels were all booked up in Jackson Hole and it turns out that it was my great fortune! My stay was fine with clean rooms, comfortable beds, and high speed internet available. The hidden gem is definitely the Red Fox Saloon. The menu is limited, but totally fine given the challenge of the logistics to get supplies delivered up the mountain on a regular basis. Today, I was in the mood for a nice salad and big bowl of chili. Goodness, I was in luck! The salad was super sized with plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and other garden goodies! The chili was giant hot bowl filled with beans and a combination of bison and elk meat. I definitely tasted the elk, but if you fear enjoy meat other than beef, do not worry. It is a hot bowl of pure yumminess!

I asked the hostess if they was only server and then she found our server. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. Our drinks sat up on the counter of the bar for 8-10 minutes. I finally went and grabbed the drinks myself. One minute later the food came too. The food was cold. Fries were stale and bland. We got a Cesar salad which had the non fresh bad part of the romaine lettuce. The trout tacos tasted ok and the fish was fresh (thankfully, we were scared). When I asked for the bill, that was brought and processed immediately but I wasn't given the itemized statement. So I had to go back to the hostess as we rarely saw our server. Overall, would not recommend unless you're just coming for drinks. Unfortunately, not many options in this area.

How can you go wrong with ranch-style "almost entirely homemade" comfort food? I guess you could,…read morebut this place has it dialed. They truly care, and it shows in the food preparation and taste. We decided to give the ranch-promise a test and jumped for the $29 16oz grilled ribeye. Cooked mid-rare, it was deliciously tender and well seasoned. The cut of meat was the star of the show, not to be overpowered by any seasoning or sauce. Perfect! The Brussels sprouts were tender and slightly charred (my favorite), and the fresh mashed potatoes and brown gravy were home style comfort food by definition. It is a LOT of food, so feel free to share (would be like 2 6 oz steaks if you choose not to chew the fat). Very happy to have had this before a week of freeze dried and camp-prepared food while we backpack in the Wind River range nearby!

With all that and more, if it were possible to give the SIX (6) stars, I'd do it in a heartbeat. From them not knowing my friend and I from a sack of onions at the start, I think we have found a 'Go To' place henceforth and forever based on the entire package of experiences we received without asking. I'm drop dead serious. We are still shaking our heads in wonderment. Don't pass up this place! Mike Hansing and Company. XXXXXX (6) stars. A first ever for me.

They can deliver to your room, but be advised they it comes with a 20% room service charge. Food- 5 stars Everything was pretty good for the standard American restaurant at the lodge. I particularly liked the corn crusted red trout for dinner and the cowboy omelette for breakfast. Produce tasted fresh and their green smoothie was pretty good as well Service- 5 stars Food came out quickly and the servers and bartenders were really attentive. They were even able to drop off food in our room when we were doing some sunrise tours at Grand Teton NP (just to make sure we used our breakfast credit) Bottom Line Standard American hotel restaurant that offers up pretty good food and service.

As with their sister hotel's restaurant next door, I really wanted to like this place more than I…read moredid. But I liked Spur even less. This feels like a sports bar pretending to be more than it is. The booths and tables were run down, chipped, and dirty and there were a myriad of TV's and extensive bar space with a lot of people yelling. From the website and menu, I guess I was expecting something nicer. The outdoor area is super lovely. I just don't know why the rest of the place doesn't have the same feel. The food: -Smoked trout deviled eggs - I love smoked fish and roe, but these were so overpoweringly fishy that neither of us even wanted to eat the last one. -Tomahawk pork chop with potatoes, apple cider reduction, pickled brussels sprouts - the pork and reduction was fantastic, if small. Potatoes were great. Brussels sprouts were mostly leaves. You know, like when you take off the outer layers when you cook them because otherwise a bunch just fall off? Those. About 80% leaves with very few actual sprouts to bite into. -Braised buffalo cheeks with polenta, pearl onions, carrots, kale - the buffalo was great. Kale and carrots were fine. Polenta was bland. Onions were undercooked. -Flourless chocolate cake - best thing we had besides the pork chop, but that's not a surprise -Meat and cheese board - in a word, LAZY. The menu describes it as a "selection of cured meats and artisan cheeses, pepperoncini, seasonal jam, grilled baguette, seasonal fruit, marcona almonds." What we got: bread so crispy it was painful to eat; wedges of goat cheese and what I think was gouda with chiles; a little pile of salami slices and two *whole* slices of mortadella folded over, not cut at all, did they expect us to eat whole pieces?; and the not-at-all-seasonal fruit which was about one-sixth of a green apple, thinly sliced, and a single strawberry, sliced, but with the green tops still on (!!). The absolute kicker though: the "seasonal jam" was one of the worst things either of us have ever tasted in our lives. I asked what it was and one server said olive spread and one server said onion jam. It looked and tasted like neither. We have no idea what it was, but it tasted like sweaty gym socks. It had me questioning if it was made with durian. It was THAT BAD. Service was completely disinterested. We weren't even there at a busy time, but we had empty drinks for half the meal, and they couldn't even answer fundamental questions about the menu (including but not limited to the "seasonal jam" debacle above). I love love love the hotel. But I will not eat at this restaurant again. I am glad I changed our weekend breakfast plans to eat here and made our own breakfasts in our room instead.
