We stopped at The Moose Outpost for lunch and absolutely loved it. The restaurant is welcoming and the people that worked there were so friendly! You can sit inside or outside. They had porch swings out front and picnic tables to sit out. We also loved all the moose decor. They have a large selection of burgers and fries. They also had milkshakes and ice cream. It was overcast and rainy our first day in Grand Teton National Park so we rearranged our day and headed up to Dubois, Wyoming where it was sunny and clear. We had a lovely time checking out the town and the National Big Horn Sheep Museum. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Moose Outpost. My wife had a beef burger and I had a turkey burger. Both were excellent! The ingredients were super fresh and nicely prepared. The fries and coffee milkshake were similarly outstanding. The people working there were friendly and efficient. Prices were very fair especially considering the quality of the food. Seems to be a popular local spot and and an especially fun place for visitors to enjoy when visiting the area. My husband and I happened upon this gem and didn't know what to expect. It was a small building with a drive up window where you place your order face-to-face with the staff. The staff was AMAZING! They were friendly and making suggestions based upon our questions. I ended up getting a cheeseburger combo and was just expecting "fast food" type burger .... NOPE! This was a gourmet burger made to perfection. My husband and I looked at each other after Our first bites and said WOWWWWW sooooo goood!! The bun was soft and fresh and there were layers of flavor in each bite. The fries and dipping sauce were fantastic AND the staff convinced me to get an espresso shake which was out of this world!! Their menu is uncomplicated: all kinds of burgers, the cheese burger was very delicious, and my husband had the veggie burger and said it was really good, he is vegetarian and it's difficult to find food that he likes at burger places usually. My review was from a dining experience in June. They have apparently updated their fries since then. I look forward to trying them! There are two signs outside the Moose Outpost, one says "Best Burgers in Town", the other says "Best Fries in Town". One of these signs is true and one is a blatant lie. The burgers are delicious, easily one of the best burgers I have had anywhere in this fine country... The fries...were disgusting. The fries were under cooked, almost raw, green and very chewy. When I asked the owner about my fries (assuming I had just gotten a bad batch), she informed me that the fries were just fine and it was in fact my taste buds that were the problem. She became very rude and belligerent, telling me that her fries were delicious and the only reason I didn't like them is because I was used to "cheap, reconstituted fries", and that "fresh fries always tasted the way her's do"...I smiled politely and left, not wanting to get in to a further argument... Normally I would just have shrugged this experience off and moved on with my life. However, her comments ate at me, surely not all fresh fries are rubbery...I know for a fact that I've had fresh fries that I enjoyed (haven't I?)...I had to find out... A few days later I bought a small deep fryer and a bag of potatoes from the local Super Foods. I went home, cut the potatoes by hand and proceeded to fry up the most delicious, crispy, golden fries I have ever had...my family loved them and has requested I make them again and again. Here is the really funny thing, I have asked everyone I meet in this town what they think of the Moose Outpost, without fail I get the same reaction "burgers great, fries horrible". The Moose Outpost even has a newspaper article about itself from when they opened on their wall. I read the article and the owner said her only complaint about the food was that some people don't like the fries...she then is quoted as saying the same thing she told me, that her fries are just fine and its the people who have the problem...nope, sorry, the people have spoken. Finally, here is my offer to the Moose Outpost. Let me come in and teach you how to make good, crispy, golden, delicious fresh cut fries. I won't charge you, It will probably only take half an hour or so...Let me do this as a service to the community..... Good luck to you, and may the next time I roll through town the fries be just as good as the burgers :-) read more
