The food was good. I wish they had pressed it longer. Cheese not melted and cold in the middle. But the bean soup was absolutely amazing. Service was good.

Cuban Sandwich?
Mari C.

I'm sorry but this was the Fyre Festival of Cuban sandwiches. I'm genuinely confused how this is even being advertised as a Cuban sandwich. It was basically grocery store lunch meat, a pickle or two, and a tiny slice of Swiss cheese pressed between bread. No pernil/roast pork in sight. Zero flavor. As a Latina, I found this beyond disappointing.

Great Cuban...Rice and beans were kind of average....You get and extra piece of bread too with the beans/rice...Outside seating is nice.

Excellent spot for Cuban sandwiches and black beans & rice! Conveniently located near many area attractions and easy to get in and out of. Service is friendly and fast, what more could you ask for? Super casual atmosphere with a few places to sit inside but the majority of seating is situated outside under the awning...just don't feed the birds and you'll be fine. They hold quite a few of the "Best of" awards for the Tampa area...I would say rightly so!

If you're looking for the best Cuban sandwich in the Tampa/St. Pete area, look no further -- The Floridian is it. There's a reason this place has the reputation it does, and after trying it ourselves, we can 100% confirm it lives up to the hype. The sandwich is perfection: fresh bread with just the right crunch, layers of flavorful meat, melty cheese, and that perfect balance of pickles and mustard that makes a Cuban what it should be. Every bite was packed with flavor, and it's easy to see why this shop stands out above the rest. On top of that, it's got that cozy, local-dive charm that makes you feel like you've stumbled on a true hidden gem. No frills, just phenomenal food made with care. If you're in St. Pete or Tampa and don't stop here, you're missing out. The Floridian isn't just good -- it's the gold standard for Cuban sandwiches!

Great local spot for Cuban sandwiches. Soup is tasty as well. Dine inside, on patio or carryout. Super casual and chill. We walked over in swimsuit covers and flip flops. Super reasonable, good quality, staff friendly.

In town to visit family and my brother found this Cuban Sandwich restaurant to try. We placed our order at the counter and took our beers to the outdoor patio. Our food was delivered quickly and did not last long. The sandwiches were awesome. All in $35

Thanks to Yelp, I found a great place for a Cuban. Got my food to go and sat on the nearby beach. Though there are places to sit, a few inside and tables and chairs outside. Still craving that sandwich! The bread was excellent, too.

For a sub shop on the beach, this place was so good! We stopped in after a long beach day cuz we heard this place was the shit! So ofc we had to go see for ourselves. I got a 12in Cuban classic, and Kevin got a spiced pork sandwich. The Cuban was the better of the two in both of our opinions. The mustard and pickles were perfect for a little tangy taste. The buttered bread was just crispy enough but not overdone, perfect. We got draft beers to enjoy our sandwiches with. So fucking good. Definitely coming back here before we fly out on Thursday. We wanted to try the recommended Cuban sandwiches here so we did! The beans and rice were my favorite item on the menu. The sandwiches were crunchy, somewhat pressed and fresh but not the best we've had. The spicy pork sandwich was short on pork and even shorter on spice. The folks were nice and it was clean but I don't think we'll be back for Cubans. We much prefer Bodega! We've not had much luck with restaurants on the beach. How about you? Life is good when you try a local spot!

Yup...darn good Cuban sandwiches with casual outdoor covered seating. Every year I visit St Pete's and every year I get my Cuban sandwich at this place!

Peter N.

Huge disappointment. I went to the Tampa location on Kennedy and was thrilled. This Treasure Island location has the same name, but not the same menu! My sandwich was just an ordinary sandwich. Yet they're still claiming to have the number one best Cuban sandwiches on their menu. They're playing off the reputation of the Tampa location, without the Tampa locations menu or quality.

Azúcar Cuban Cafe - Outside street view

Cuban food lovers pay attention! Azucar in St Pete needs is a delightful new addition to the…read moregrowing selection of Cuban eateries in Pinellas and they deserve your attention! We stopped in for breakfast at Azucar on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend after seeing a piece about them on "I Love St Pete." What got me excited to try them specifically was their seeming focus on street food items like croquetas, papas rellenas, and empanadas--while some Cuban food spots on this side of Tampa Bay like La Segunda or Bodega have Cuban Sandwiches and empanadas covered, not everyone does croquetas. Now, for someone like me, who grew up on those deep-fried, ham-filled, finger food-sized bits of goodness, that's just a crime, so I welcome any Cuban/Latin American joint to the area who serves them as long as they do them right. Let me assure any other croquetas fan reading this that Azucar DOES do them right, and a whole lot more! A few things to note before you go. Azucar is located in a tiny space next to the Wheelhouse on Central Ave--they took over the space previous occupied by Ohio Pizza Pie. Their business at the moment is mostly pick-up and carry out because they have VERY limited seating on site--basically a few tables and stools to accommodate patrons waiting on their to-go orders. Not to worry, though. Aside from calling in your order and picking it up, Azucar also utilizes GrubHub and Door Dash, so delivery is an option, too. Also, note their business hours. Azucar is open daily 8am-5pm, so they're targeting the breakfast and lunch market in the area. That means it's just about perfect for getting your cafe con Leche or cortadito first thing in the morning along with a breakfast empanada or tostada. That brings me finally to the food. Almost everything Mel and I tried that morning was delicious. The croquetas--obviously the first thing I tried--were perfect. Their ground ham filling was flavorful and reminded me of mornings with my dad in Hialeah, eating from corner cafes and walk-up spots. The breakfast empanadas also were excellent. Made from house made dough and filled with scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, and sausage, they have great flavor on their own, but be sure to try them with the dipping sauces they have to offer. If I have to be truly critical of anything, it was the papa rellena we ordered. The mashed potato stuffing needed some seasoning and the picadillo at the center, while flavorful, wasn't fully heated through. Little things that I'm sure will be corrected by the next time we order from them, which will be soon! Oh, and let me just say this: do NOT leave without ordering the Dulce de Leche empanadas. They're served up piping hot, covered with powdered sugar with Dulce de Leche caramel dripping out after every drop. Amazing stuff!

You can watch boats cruise by while you eat. The best spots are on the open outdoor deck or at a table next to the large windows. Inside, the dining room is decorated in a Mediterranean style. It features colorful Spanish tiles, lush tropical plants, and authentic artwork. The famous historic 1905 salad originally created in 1905 was made table side by Tossing 4 cups of chopped iceberg lettuce, 1/2 cup julienned ham, 1/2 cup julienned Swiss cheese, 1 ripe chopped tomato, and 1/2 cup green Spanish olives. Top with Romano cheese, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, and a tangy garlic dressing. The flavor is great and it's a nice light healthy option. 9/10 The Ropa Vieja was Originally introduced to Cuba by Spanish sailors. The name means "old clothes" because the choice beef is shredded, sautéed and simmered with onions, green peppers and tomatoes. Served with platanos and white rice. 9/10 The Shrimp Salteado came with Jumbo shrimp sautéed in exra-virgin olive oil, sliced Spanish onions, green peppers, fresh garlic, mushrooms, diced potatoes, chorizo and red wine. Served with yellow rice. 9/10 For dessert, the flan is one of the best I have ever tasted. The recipe dates to 1935 when the Columbia opened Tampa's first "Conditioned Air" dining room, the Don Quixote. Our grandmother and great-grand-mother, Carmen Hernandez, helped the Columbia gain national fame with her great recipes, especially her flan. Spanish caramel egg custard, prepared the old-fashioned way, using only the best natural ingredients. 9/10 Our server was friendly and informative and our food came out in a timely manner. AVOID-AVOID! This…read moreplace will nickel and dime you left and right. It first started with check in. Most hotels c resorts and places do not charge you $50 to checkin 2 hours early. Since we were arriving before 4 I was like sure let's get to our room early. We got checked between 2:30 & 3pm, cost us $50 extra, plus tax. Fast forward to our room. It was fine, but the deadbolt wouldn't lock. Maintenance quickly came and said it's due to people flipped the deadbolt out and then letting the door slam on it so it won't lock. He got it working. Day two while gone housekeeping stopped by and messed up the deadbolt. It's their own staff doing it, not solely guests. So as a HUGE safety issue, we couldn't get our deadbolt fixed night two. Again, huge safety concern. Like to have a drink by the pool? Good luck! This place is terrible. Per their rules: You may NOT bring a cooler to the pool. You may NOT bring outside alcoholic beverages to the pool. They do NOT have pool service nor a pool bar for drinks. You must dry off, go up to the second floor to the receptionist, and buy their $8 beer, then go back downstairs to the pool area. (NOT KIDDING) Their mini golf course is not a course, it's 4 holes. They have 32 lounge chairs and only 5 umbrellas. Pool closes at 9 although they had a sign posted it was closed due to sanitation issues. Although people got in, we didn't because of the sign. So that was unavailable for the two days we were there. Housekeeping is sloppy. Thrown towels on the counter. Towels frayed. The place sleeps more than two as we had two bedrooms, but they will charge you $20 per extra adult. Parking is limited but they still charge you extra if you park more than one car. They include a resort fee and this place is FAR FROM A RESORT! They just want to nickel and dime you. From a safety standpoint, don't stay here. From not able to enjoy your own adult beverages by the pool, don't stay here. From no pool or bar service, don't stay here. From the room allowing more than two adults to sleep there but they charge you for more than two adults, don't stay here. From checking in two hours early and charging $50, don't stay here. I'll admit, the folks at the front desk are nice. But they don't set the rules to nickel and dime guests on everything. Do yourself a favor, AVOID THIS PLACE!

We ordered a "Little Havana Combo" ($11.50) and Roast Pork with rice and beans ($13.50), and two milkshakes.($6.00)ea). The food was delicious and plentiful. The waitresses were very accommodating. When we were done eating, I walked up to the counter and asked to pay. The man ran my credit card, took payment and was done. I asked for the receipt in order to give them a tip and he told me not to worry. It was strange at the moment, but I acknowledged him and we left. The bill totaled $11.50+$13.50+$12,00=$37.00+ Tax=7%=$39.59. My card was charged $45.48. This means that either he charged me a 15% tip or a Credit Card use fee without consent! This is why he refused to give me the receipt! What he doesn't know is that I was going to give him a higher tip; $10. Unfortunately, I will not return due to this dishonest action that he took. How sad that this owner had to resort to this practice! And for this, he gets a 2-Star rating! PS. Usually tips do not reflect the original charge. Perhaps when the transaction clears it will show the "tip" included. We will see.
