Fresh fried sea food or fresh fish and crab. Their fried breaded shrimp and breaded fish are delicious and very hot as everything is fried right in front of you. They have sauces, drinks and other fresh potato salad and macaroni salad plus coleslaw. Good service. This place has been open for years. read more

This place still has terrific food and I would go visit them again. It's been multiple decades that my family and parents have gone to this place. It kinda lost its flow of regular customers. I remember in the 80's it was super crowded and the actual business owners worked 6 days a week. I am not sure if they sold it to another owner, but the food still tastes the same. I am giving this a five star because of the food. I am almost going to give the place a 4-star since the prices have been outrageous. It just seems that the cost of getting fresh food and the preparation time for the food make the cost high. Isn't there a way to slightly lower the quality of the food and get a similar taste while bringing down the price? I assume they thought of this, but you really can over-buy or else it racks up the price. I would stay away from the fries since it's not that great. Get a potato salad or macaroni salad. Anyways, it's a nice place to drop by and pick up some food. There isn't any seating and so you will need to bring a drink if you plan to eat in your car. read more

It is the real deal with locals ordering a pound of fried shrimp, or fish, or anything else that can be deep fried. Want fries, cole slaw, macaroni salad or lemon bars with that? Get some. Kinda mutes any distinguishable flavors from shrimp, fish, etc. The texture ends up being the only discernible difference. Overall still pretty tasty and fresh. Everything is cooked to order. My friend just went to the Fish Keg and ate in the car of course. No pandemic can stop the fried deliciousness that is the Fish Keg. She even brought her own plate and would you believe she made her own cocktail sauce? Foolish as they have great stuff there. Her husband had the fried fish filets and enjoyed it so much he couldn't even get a photo. Shame. I didn't want to face it when my husband said it, but he is right...the shrimp, which were always my favorite menu item here, have gotten smaller. We had Lawrence's Fisheries recently and there's a huge difference! Theirs are jumbo! And less breading! There is so much breading on Fish Keg's now that you can barely taste the shrimp! And no seasoning, either. Or at least it's lackluster. I watched my daughter peeling breading off before she dipped the shrimp in the sauce cups that they charge you for...another pet peeve! I bought the Groupon the other day and didn't feel I got much for it. I ended up spending an additional $60 out of pocket for my family of 3, and when it was all said and done, we could have gone out for a nice dinner for that. Very disappointing. The clam strips, hush puppies, and a lot of the fish are still good, and I still love their potato salad, but I am sad to say that they are more expensive now, and truly not as good as I remember from growing up. Figured it was time for an update. For a thorough review read my older one. Since 2009 my experiences with Fish Keg haven't been as awesome. Pricing is high and I don't feel as though it compares with some of the other long time fish fry businesses. Also, having to pay for condiments i.e. sauces for dipping makes your final spend much higher but is the norm at these types of businesses. Being that there are more options, I guess I've been more willing to drive around for better quality. If you're in the area, it's not a bad fried option but if you've got time and are willing to travel, you can find better. It's definitely not the best fry or shrimp in Chicago. What causes the biggest differences are: offering (sizes of their seafood), the taste of their breading, freshness of oil and place in general. For me its taste versus offering. I think I lost my flavor for it. read more

I used to go to The Fish Keg as a kid in the 60's. I moved away and now I'm back living in the area and I can't believe they're still here. Their fried chicken is still fantastic although the batter has changed somewhat on the chicken. The fresh shrimp was beautiful and fresh and delicious. Also, I should have paid more attention to the pictures because the fish was the size of a fourth of a fillet; it was more of a nugget size. I didn't feel like I got a good value for what I paid for.If you're looking for basic fried fish, this is it, but if you are looking for authentic seasoned fried fish, I'd suggest you check out Captain Hooks or Sharks. This review is for the Fried Chicken only...Im not a seafood person but ive heard over the years the fried fish here is great...Well the Chicken isnt at all. I got the wings and they were under seasoned,fatty and fried so hard and with what seems like a pound of batter that i could hardly get my teeth into the meat section...first and second and sometimes third bites were all super hard crunchy batter...Ive never had to clean up so many crumbs off my floor and table in my life....Be prepared to eat this chicken with a broom and dust pan at your side unless you have a dog that will eat up all the crumbs at your feet....lol And oh yeah the hush puppies were greasy and terrible as well...threw them right into garbage I wont be back read more

I grew up in Rogers Park and have been eating Fish Keg my entire life. However, it had been many years since he last time I was there. I recently mover to Sheridan Road and as I was surfing the other day, Fish Keg crossed my path. I thought, "wow, Fish Keg", and I placed a delivery order. Ordered shrimp, of course, and some chowder, sauces, etc. Order came fast and hot. But, NO SHRIMP!! Just imagine my disappointment. But, I dont write negative reviews, especially cuz of covid, and this one has a happy ending. I called Fish Keg tonight to tell them what happened. Im sure they had no clue. I expressed my disappointment. After checking with manager, they really made it right. I placed another order tonight and they included an additional pound of shrimp, free of charge. Altho I'll be eating lotsa shrimp this week, how cool was their response. Bravo and thank you. read more
