So delicious and authentic. I love that they have the smaller size dinners. They're perfect for a lighter appetite or lunch. They also have salbutes, which is rare. The thing I get most often though is the panades. They're like very thin. Very small empanadas. Yum!

Large chicken dinner w/ stewed beans

We came to get take out. I called earlier in the morning to make sure they were still open. They answered and the guy that answered the phone wasn't very welcoming. After I had called the second time to put my order in, they disconnected their phone. Not a smart move in my opinion. How are customers going to know they are open? They might assume that you're closed... Anyways they were only serving chicken and beef and no oxtail. Good thing for me, I don't care for oxtail, but I know it's a favorite. I ordered a large beef dinner and a large chicken dinner. For the beef dinner, we ordered it with rice and beans, and it came with potato salad and fried plantains. The rice and beans were good, but there was a lot of hard pieces. They definitely had potential. The beef lacked flavor and was too dry. The chicken dinner, I ordered this with stewed beans. It came with white rice and stewed beans on the side. The chicken tasted better than the beef, but still lacked that authentic Belizean flavor that I've tried before. The rice and beans were tasty, but also lacked some flavor. The fried plantains were good and the potato salad was ok, but was too moist, potatoes were mushy and not whole. Overall, the food was ok. It was very filling but I was disappointed in the lack of Belizean flavor that I've once tried at another Belizean joint in the city. Sadly there can only be room for one Belizean restaurant on my list and don't believe I'd be returning.

As far as I know, there's only 2 Belizean places in the city of Chicago (at least according to a quick search on Yelp). One of them is this one, which is far north over by Howard, and the other one is Garifuna Flava on the Suoth Side. I'm a fan of both of them, although I love Garifuna Flava more. This one's good though, although the food took a little long to come out, and they were out of some things like oxtail when I stopped by around 12pm on a Saturday. I ended up getting the hash fish breakfast, which came with fry bread, beans, and maybe something else that I'm forgetting. Fry bread is a big piece of freshly made bread (I know it's fresh because it's the reason my order took so long) with a hint of sweetness, and is just a fun thing to eat. The hash fish was good, although the portions could've been bigger. I also got a conch fritter on the side, which really yummy, and tasted like the conch fritter I'd had at Garifuna Flava. I'll definitely be back if I'm in the mood for Belizean and am closer to here than Garifuna Flava. One last comment - I was looking at Redz's website, and they said they greet everyone with a smile. That's pretty false - the man who took my order and the ones after me looked pretty apathetic. Service isn't a huge factor in my Yelp reviews, as I care more about food, so the four stars for Redz is really food and vibe, but their service isn't always the warmest depending on who you get. A different man who rung me up was friendlier, and even made small talk with another customer about how old her baby was.

Redz Belizean Restaurant is small Restaurant located in Roger Park Chicago area. There isn't anything fancy about this place . There are about 3 tables that sit 4 if you decide to dine in. The menu is limited. They may or may not have what's listed on the menu. The customer service wasn't friendly and workers looked serious at all times. I didn't notice not one smile. The food tasted average. It's not anything to brag about. I didn't enjoy this suppose to be Belize Caribbean authentic food. I hope it taste better in the actual country.

Food is great, but the prices have gotten out of control. Inspired me to watch YouTube videos of Bare Pantry and make some recipes myself.

At the end of our meal he turned to me and said "it either used to be way better here or maybe the restaurants in the burbs have just gotten a lot better over time." Our meal last night at Pescadero was just A-OK. Our waiter got the job done, but wasn't overly helpful. Ex: he asked after we put in our entree if we wanted anything else and we decided to throw in some oysters. He then told us he didn't know if he could get them out before our entrees since he already put in the order. Well he asked, didn't he? When we asked if the east or west coast oysters were meatier his response was "they are all the same here." They get a star for having Riesling and it was a pretty tasty one. We had very unexciting shrimp cocktail and oysters for our apps. I would skip both next time, which is sad for a seafood & oyster bar. For my entree I got the scallops special. According to my last review from here i loved the scallops. These scallops (served with risotto) were enjoyable, but would probably order something else next time. And my husband said his salmon was just fine. I love a good seafood & oyster bar so bummed this didn't live up to our past meals here, but it's a nice atmosphere so was still a nice Sat evening out in downtown Wilmette.

In hindsight we should have each gotten the special rather than the split. Our favorite was the lobster and if we both got the special we would have each gotten one. Shrimp were our 2nd favorite and the crab legs a close 3rd. The sausage was a great addition. It's a bit of work to get the food but well worth it. My first seafood boil and will definitely be back. They had quite a bit of fried food that also looked delicious. Awesome spot!

My girlfriend and I both opted for the halibut with farro special. I'm a pescetarian and picky about my fish and this was perfectly cooked. The basmati reduction was mellow and savory. The couple we were with had pasta and both loved their dishes. This is the quality of food one would hope for in a downtown or River North restaurant, but it's in Evanston with more reasonable parking. The menu leans towards elevated Italian, and not the heavy red sauce stuff (not that there's anything wrong with that). Everything has been great. The restaurant itself is in a vintage building with nice high ceilings. It's much larger than what it seems from the outside. All in all, a nice place to take a date, or for a special occassion or even if you just feel fancy. Not too spendy considering the food quality and service. Can highly recommend.

It was pretty empty when I arrived, but the restaurant filled up when I left, so I'd recommend making a reservation. Just FYI, they only take reservations by phone. I ordered the scallop as a starter, seafood linguine for my main, and the date cake for dessert. The scallop was very good. It had a wonderfully soft texture, and the sauce was flavorful without overpowering the scallop. Generally just a very well balanced dish. The seafood linguine, though, was way too salty for my taste, and the pasta was overcooked. I understand that a lot of Italian restaurants in the U.S. serve pasta a little softer than traditional al dente, but this felt slightly overcooked even by that standard. The pasta became somewhat mushy once mixed with the sauce. On the positive side, they were quite generous with the seafood and other ingredients. The date cake was then too sweet for me. It also didn't taste particularly fresh. The texture made me wonder if it had been frozen and reheated before serving, because it was hard at first and a little crunchy around the edges. The caramel sauce was also very dense and sweet. If you're a date cake person, I'd recommend trying Ema's. In my opinion, they have one of the best date cakes in the Chicago area. Service was alright, but a little strange. The staff who kept refilling my water were very attentive, although I don't think they were actually my server (I hope they were getting some of the tips). The server who took my order disappeared for quite a while, so someone else eventually checked on me and took my dessert order, and then it was another person who brought me the check. Since I was seated at the bar, I also found the experience a little awkward. I didn't order any drinks, and neither the bartender nor my server really interacted with me beyond what was necessary. I hadn't chosen the bar seating myself, so it ended up feeling a little impersonal. There were some highlights, especially the scallop, but the pasta, dessert, and somewhat disconnected service made it more of a 3.5-star experience for me. Maybe I'll give it another shot with friends together and try some of their other dishes, if I happen to be nearby.

We started with the Dan Dan Noodles, Soup Dumplings, and Pork & Chive Dumplings. Both types of dumplings were good, although definitely be careful with the hot broth inside the soup dumplings! I personally preferred the Pork & Chive Dumplings because I thought they were seasoned a little better. For the entrees, we ordered the Fried Tofu with Yu-Shiang Sauce and the Clay Pot Tofu with Mushrooms and Vegetables. I preferred the Yu-Shiang Tofu because I really liked the sauce. We also tried the Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp, which was just okay. I've had better versions at other restaurants. The Hot Chili Chicken was a favorite among the group. It was a good portion and had great flavor. We also pre-ordered the whole Peking Duck, and there was a generous amount of meat. The skin was nice and crispy, and I really enjoyed the spring pancakes that came with it. I actually prefer the pancakes over the mantou, and they gave us plenty, which I appreciated. The toppings paired nicely with the duck as well. My only complaint was that I wish the duck itself had been seasoned a little more. Service was okay overall. When we first arrived, it seemed like they were just getting started for the evening, so things were a little slow at first. As dinner progressed, though, the service improved. Overall, it was a solid meal for a large group, and there were several dishes I would order again.
