Stopped by Hub's Restaurant and had a great quick meal. They have a small parking lot with open spots when I went, plus easy street parking nearby. Service was friendly and the food came out swift. I ordered the BLT sandwich (who doesn't love a good triangle cut?) and their gyro plate--both hit the spot. Cool little touch too: they have a framed photo by the walkway showing their feature on Saturday Night Live, which was fun to see. Well this was kind of a bucket list from a my mom Filipino female friend who kept ranting about hubs both here in Chicago and the one in Skokie. Anyways I gave it a try it's decent or meh ok. Service was a bit slow but they did pick up I ordered the chicken kabob since they said that was one of their specialties next to the gyros but I was not in the mood for gyros I was going to try the ribs but it was a little pricey as mentioned service was a bit slow. Ambience is very casual I thought it was some fancy place this is just a local popular franchise that old Filipinos ranted about. I would come back for the ribs maybe but other than that nothing else that's the three stars on this review. Who was good but just average good nothing I would do cartwheels or get excited about. Been ordering Hubs for at least a decade. Was astounded tonight to receive a "traditional Chicago polish" that had tomato, pickle, sport pepper and relish. Whaaa? Polish is mustard and grilled onion. Called them to complain and was told that I needed to order "Maxwell street style" polish if I wanted the normal style. Otherwise, they make it like a hot dog. Whaaa? Did Hubs change hands? Update: It's amazing how this place is consistently make great food. Today I wanted something different than my usual order of a gyro, so I ordered the beef kebab dinner. The dinner included includes 2 skewers with veggies, tomatoes, onion, pita and tzatziki sauce. I ordered an extra skewers because I didn't know what the portion size of the skewers. The two skewers were plentiful. The beef was tender and juicy. The veggies on the skewers were tender as well. Made in a pita sandwich is where the magic happens. Every thing just works together. Incredible cod sandwich; what the filet of fish would be with super powers. Good pasta. They would get 5 stars except for the fact that they get 20% of orders wrong. I have been a customer for more than 40 years. I ordered a half pound burger with fries and found the fries to be over cooked and full of oil. I mentioned this to one of the employees and she told me that ALL FRIES ARE COOKED FRESH FOR EACH ORDER. I hardly ever complain but these were inedible. I won't be ordering fries here ever again and Hubs will not be my first choice when ordering. Very easy to lose a customer. read more

We stopped here for the gyros, one of the things I miss most from Chicago. Hub's has really good gyros. They also have the most extensive menu of any drive in I've ever seen. From roasted Greek chicken, to seafood platters, to burgers, and shawarma. One day I'll move beyond the gyro and fries but not this trip. read more

Look, customer service is key and this place has been going downhill for years. Here's what we get: Gyros...good, delicious. Rice pudding...a favorite. Soup...excellent, a staple and usually the real reason we keep ordering. Feta cheese...good stuff. Burgers...Passable. Here's what we've had that sucked: Spaghetti...awful. Ribs...also awful. English fries...soggy and not good. Italian beef and sausage...eww and on a sub roll?? Falafel Plate...quite possibly the WORST falafel I've ever had. I've gotten food poisoning from eating falafel and this was STILL worse. Dry and crumbly...do not attempt...OMG...inedible. Hummus...even worse. Tahini...tasted like chemicals. read more

Hubs is pure nostalgia for me. The interior hasnt changed for 50 years, the employees are nice in that all-business-whaddya-want kind of way, and while the food isnt spectacular, its comforting. Case in point. I ordered the Chicken Gyro with fries. Now have I had better gyros (chicken or reg) in the past? Great place to stop in and eat during The Covid-19 pandemic. Located in a nice neighborhood & within walking distance of my cousin's house. We ordered our food, found a seat and awaited our number to be called. Once the number was called, you were required to pick up your food. I found this to be a bit much, but considering the culture of all things COVID, I get it. The food was average, nothing to write home about, but I should've expected that as I ordered a veggie burger from a non-vegetarian restaurant; so ok. The prices were a little higher than I expected, but fair for the neighborhood and the economy in which I was in. Glad to have visited. read more

I had the falafel plate yesterday and it was good. Way too much food for me though! Brought the rest home and will see if I eat it because I'm not a fan of leftovers. However, everything was good and freshly made. This is about all I can eat on the menu, but for everyone who eats meat, they have a lot of choices. I've enjoyed Hub's 1/2LB burgers for a while. They're delicious except I wish there was a RARE option. But I tried something other than Burgers. The BBQ Ribs are amazing. You got your fall-off-the-bone tender going on, good tasting and meaty. And here's to Good Packaging of the ribs. In 1/2 of the container is Aluminum foil folded over and containing the 2 layers of ribs. In the other half are face to face Garlic breads (BIG too), Containers of BBQ and Cole Slaw and Fries. Ribs are expensive and you don't want to get some dry/tough mess like certain places. And it's Hub's so should've known it'd be good. Though Hub's Patty Melt is not good. read more

Can't really go wrong with the gyro plate from hubs. One plate is a lot of food and the fries were surprising reallyyyy good because of how thick they were cut. I liked the fries as a side better than the vegetable side. The vegetable side was just steamed California style veggie mix. Tip: you get 20% off your first online order! Wonderful place! They're open late which I love. The service is always outstanding and I love the food! The place is always clean and it's just a casual atmosphere to enjoy a great meal! My favorites are the full slab rib dinner and the half pound bacon cheeseburger, each with a side of large fries. My favorite rib place closed most of their restaurants years ago so I really appreciate finding delicious ribs so close to home. I also love the chicken gyros and the lamb/beef gyros. I enjoy a side of onion rings with my gyros. If I want something a little lighter I go for the chicken breast meal with baked potato and cottage cheese with a side of pita bread. All good!!! I ordered recently. I was told 15min when I called. From the time I called to the time I got back in my truck was 35 min ‍ I had bacon burger and ribs. Ribs were ok. But the burger I asked for lettuce tomato ketchup and mayonnaise. I got no mayo and the added mustard and onions. I won't be ordering from there again. read more

I think I'm to blame for the 'Hubs' railings on their patio. When I was a kid I was running on the brick part and I fell off and hit my head, it was the 80s and that kind of stuff just happened, I was a given a coke and was ok. Memories like that makes it hard to give Hub's a lower rating-they're obviously really proud of being mentioned on SNL, another 80s throwback and not much has changed really from then. Hmmmm .... two visits now in five weeks .... this place is truly enigmatic! The good: I had a rack of ribs that were just about at what I consider "perfection level." The other time I had a steak, baked potato and salad. All were passable and the steak was not bad at all. They have a dessert rack with all sorts of great looking pies, cakes, and Greek pastries; I didn't try any of them as I try to hold down the sugar intake. Parking is ample and the place is pretty clean. I noted the one busboy guy busting his ass to keep the dining room organized. Bathroom was clean. The not-so-good: My ghawwwwd in heaven, what is up with the sullen trio of women working the counter? Borderline crude, mumbled at me both visits, yakked with co-workers while I placed my order, necessitating repeating it (yes, on both visits.) Salad was ok but had about a pint of dressing slathered all over it. The ribs came with -- literally -- a thimble sized portion of cole slaw! Garlic toast was hard as a rock - clearly toasted earlier, then microwaved later. Bread gets hard when it's microwaved and then sits under the heat lamps. I observed guys in the kitchen touching food items with bare hands. Return visit? Meh, maybe, if I'm in the area and in the mood for ribs. Nothing else would really draw me back there. read more

My order was incomplete so. No manager was available but I was told the cost of the missing salad will be refunded to the credit card I used. Immediately I could tell the steak was overcooked and contained a lot of gristle. It was and it did. Ordered medium, cooked to well doneness and it was dry, tough and flavorless. I ate about 1/4 of the steak. The potato & garlic bread were okay. Couple of hours after eating, I was sick. How does a professional cook screw up a steak? The order totaled $23.56. There was absolutely nothing positive I can say about my meal here. I ordered a burger and fries and a fountain drink. That was all. Had to wait 20 minutes for the order. The burger had zero flavor. It tasted like they took ground beef and threw it on a grill with no salt, no pepper, no seasoning at all. The fries were also bland. Again they threw frozen fries into the fryer and then threw them into the container. No flavor at all. Finally, when I ordered a large fountain soft drink it was $2.25. What I got was a drink cup that was smaller than most other restaurants' small size and then was told they only have one size. My God, soft drinks cost about a dime to make and they rip you off with a thimble to drink out of. Finally, I'm not one of those people who complain about whether people should be wearing masks or not but if you are concerned, don't come here. A lady walked in with a mask around her neck and it stayed there the entire time of her visit. She walked up and down the front counter, into the dining room and into the washroom. Oh, by the way, all she ordered was water and a soda. Despite all the warning signs stating that you must wear a mask to enter, nothing was said by the staff. Been going to this business for more than 20 years and it's been the same. I had no idea that the owner has changed some time ago. They have the best gyros plate in the city! I can't go to any other place. The raw onions in gyros plate are always sweet and never too bitter. I love it! It's an inexpensive, quick meal for the family.
