Stopped in for a Quick Bite to eat before work. I'm glad that this place has reopened after being hit by a car. They pricing hasn't changed much as this place is a bargain. I love that the same people are running the place. I ordered the gyro special which includes fries and a drink. Remember this is a cash only restaurant. The dining area can hold a limited number of people and the counter space to eat is smallish. I hit my knee thinking I had more space. I received my food and everything was excellent. I love that they put tzatziki sauce on the top and bottom of the gyro. It had a little crisp from the flat top. The fries were good and well salted. read more

I stumbled upon Quick Bite Carry Outs while randomly looking for a place that sells gyro cheeseburgers. Quick Bite Carry Outs was rated the top place in the neighborhood. From the very moment I arrived, the staff was extremely welcoming. The inside is small but they have a few stools for people that want to dine-in. They don't have outdoor seating so the inside can get full quickly. The inside is clean and a staff member was actively picking up anything left behind to ensure it stayed that way. You can tell this is a mom and pop place because they took their time making sure everything well made. I didn't have to wait too long to get my order. It came with a separate basket of fries and so much gyro meat on the double cheeseburger. I struggled (in a good way) to get a solid bite of my cheeseburger. I had at least two solid meals leftover based on the amount of food I received. I highly recommend checking out Quick Bite Carry Outs not just for the gyro cheeseburger but for everything! read more

I have lived within about a mile of this place the entire time I've lived in Chicago, but never been. I had someone I've helping me sort through somethings and do so I thought now would be the perfect time to give them a try and pick up a quick lunch. We got Italian beef and fries, and the food wasn't bad. It's not as good as my favorite beef place; however, I did think it was better than Portillo's, which is a favorite of a lot of people and whose beef I'm not really a huge fan of. Quick Bites has good quality beef, and while their peppers aren't as hot as I like them the giardinara was good and didn't have a weird, unappetizing celery to pepper ratio (looking at you, Mr. Beef). Parking is tricky. There's no parking on Foster and I'm not sure there's parking on Western, but they have about four spaces here in this lot. I'm not sure when it's ever so busy that that would be a problem but it can feel tight to some folks because of the auto business directly next door. There's seats for about seven or eight folks inside along the wall counter, so you can eat inside but you won't find a place to hang out here. I've lived down the street from this place for several years, but I finally made it there for lunch recently. It's your typical Chicago hot dog stand with the typical offerings The Positives: first, the food is good. When I was there I ordered their two hot dogs, French fries and a soda special. The hot dogs had all of the correct toppings to be a Chicago style hot dog and sausages had a nice flavor and snap. The French fries were fried to perfection. They were golden brown and perfectly crispy. Granted, I didn't order anything super complicated, but they get props for making the classics well. Second, the price and value were good. The special I ordered cost $9.91 after tax. Give today's prices and inflation, this is a good deal, and not sure I could have purchased lunch for less elsewhere. The other items on the menu also seemed like a good deal too. Third, service was fast. I got my food only minutes after ordering. The negatives: first, they are cash only. One of the reasons I hadn't gone here earlier is because I don't typically carry cash. I also would have ordered a burger and fries rather than hot dogs, but I didn't have enough cash in my pocket. Second, they have odd hours. There are closed on Sundays and seem to close early on the days they are open. My first attempt to go here was on a Saturday at 4:41 pm. I walked in and tried to order, but the staff told me they had closed at 4:30 pm. It think it's odd that they don't close on the hour and wish they would be open for dinner or at least later than 4:30 pm. It averages out to ok. My first visit the beef was moist, tasty and tender. I ordered for here and I always get my beefs with hot peppers, which it came with but then they pointed me towards the jars of giardiniera on the counters to let me add more if I wanted; joy! After having raved about it for so long my sister came with me and we got the exact same order. The sandwich that I had on my most recent visit was definitely NOT like the one I had before, it was plain, greasy and even with the peppers it wasn't worth it. I hope they get consistent and if they do that they're more like my first visit. Keep the jars of giard on the counters though. read more

I have driven by Quick Bites no less than 100 times and always wanted to stop in but never did. Today I decided I wanted a hot dog and Quick Bites was going to get my business. Was this the best hot dog I ever had in my life, probably not. Was this the best Italian Beef sandwich in the world, not necessarily. With that said, was this an incredibly high quality great value meal which I would go back to again, absolutely! As to the details, I got the two hot dog special which was a great deal. Hot dogs in hot steamed buns with fresh condiments and an order of perfectly cooked fries. Before I ordered I went on Yelp and saw people speaking about the Italian Beef so I ordered one as well. They know exactly what a Chicago Style Italian Beef should look, feel and taste. Great Giardinaira on a well dipped bun with a rich beef juice and a well sliced and tasty beef inside. There were so many other items on the menu including a variety of burgers which I will try in the future. We know people go to these local places in hopes of getting a good quality meal at a reasonable price but the reason they come back is the people working there. This is why I have to tell you please visit this place. During this crazy time with so many small businesses negatively impacted, this restaurant needs to be called out for their customer service. There were 3 people working there at the time of my visit and I was greeted by all three. Each one of them treated me like I was a regular there and made me feel so welcome. When it came time to pay, I noticed it was a cash only venue and I started to panic when I realized I was $1.60 short. Not a quarter but $1.60! I asked where the nearest cash machine was and was told not to worry about it, I can get him next time. Who does that when every dollar is important to a small business. Lived in the area for 3 years and I have only eaten there 4 times. After each visit I remember why I don't frequent this spot. Their food is nothing special, you get rude service from the guy I'd assume is the owner, and they are cash only... I've tried, the beef, a Chicago dog, & Maxwell style polish. Exactly what a burger is supposed to taste like. Nothing fancy - just good meat, perfect sesame seed bun (non of that brioche stuff), fresh/crispy veggies, and whatever else you want on it. I always add giardiniera to it - makes it really pop. Their Italian beef is also spot-on. Highly recommend this cash-only place! I have been going here for decades (since the 90's) I have enjoyed their food each and every time I have ordered there. Their quality has been excellently consistent the entire time. I cannot speak more highly of their product or owner and staff. They are quick to serve up any order I have made and at any time regardless of how busy they were. Moments later my tasty food was ready. I have never had a mistake from them in the entirety of my history purchasing food from this place. That alone is something that makes them stand out in my mind. There is no other stand that I've bought food from that I can make that statement on. A solid place to have near home, especially with the little parking lot right off a major intersection. It would be tough to stop here without that lot. Good Chicago dog, good polish, good fried mushrooms. French fries completely forgettable. Also, the italian beef did not live up to expectations; it was really bland--meat, onions, peppers, bun, the whole thing had hardly any flavor. The $5 deal for two dogs, fries, and drink is one of the cheapest lunches around. I'm giving less than a stellar rating because although the food was okay (I tried their Gyros and Hot Dogs previously) they allow patrons to enter and stand shoulder to shoulder with other patrons in an extremely small ordering and waiting space with no mask on or no sign indicating masks are required in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Budacki's (Hot Dogs, Gyros, and more) in the neighborhood is much better at protecting customers with masking requested and plastic barriers protecting patrons and workers. Nice to see that Quick Bite still sells a hot dog and fries for super cheap at $1.75. That same amount of money will get you about a small soda at most grease joints in LA. Aside from the tasty hot dogs and gyro, what I remember about this place is that the owners were always incessantly cleaning the grill in between orders. That is a sight unseen at most of the family owned Vienna beef joints in Chitown and beyond. I used to refer to him at the Grill Nazi. Having been invited to a couple weddings in Chicago in January, I can't stop thinking about 1) eternal love and 2) grabbing a Chicago style dog at Superdawg, Hot Doug's, or on the super-cheap at Quick Bite. Quick Bite has been my go-to for many years, like 15 years. If you are hungry and need grub on the fly, then Quick Bite is your place. This little hotdog joint serves up delicious fast food fast... Quick, Quality and Quaint! My personal favorites are the Hotdogs, Chicago Style of course, the Superburger and their Italian Beef, Wet with Hot Peppers please. Everything on the menu is cheap and they have a plethora of combos too! The gentlemen behind the counter are always courteous and polite, but they get the food out quick and all with a smile. Nothing quick about this place, I would like to tell you about the food but cannot because never got any. There were 3 other people in there, 2 standing by the pick up your food side, I walked up to the order side and they guy says just a minute and goes to take order from people from the pick up your order side. I stood there for ten minutes and dude never came back to take my order, so I left and went to Budacki's Drive In on Damen, they had a lot more people there and Budacki's took my order as soon as I walked in and I was out with my food after about 5-6 minutes. One of the best gyros I've had in a long time. That it's from this small corner hot dog/fast food joint is really something. I've had other good bites here as well. Hot dogs. Double cheeseburger. Gives me the confidence that everything on their menu would be fresh, hot and tasty! I didn't give 5 stars just due to some minor issues. It's a small place with limited and tight parking. The fries, though fresh, hot, decent and plentiful are nothing special. I would also like to see their produce, such as tomatoes, pickles...sliced thinner. It was very unwieldy eating my double cheeseburger with such thick slices. Cash only should not be too much of an issue, as their prices are pretty reasonable. Just come prepared! Food was better than average for sure. But bad experience. When I walk into a place like this I look up at the menu above the grill. I don't scan the area in it's entirety looking for a "cash only" sign. Instead of putting the "cash only" sign on the door when you walk in, it's on the cash register when you go to pay. So I order, go to pay, and then see the sign. Plus, the person taking the order singled me to come over to the "order here" sign when I walked in, so there was no way that I had the chance to look at the cash register to see the sign. I have to call before I go there just to make sure they haven't sold out of it for the day, and if they have some left, I make sure to reserve mine cause it might be gone in the 6 minutes it takes me to get there. King of GYROS. I grew up in Chicago and am a huge fan of gyros. I've been to a gazillion gyros places - ranging from the random corner hot dog spot to the big fancy places in Greek town. This is the best gyros by far. Simply but perfectly prepared. Fresh pita, grilled. Gyros cut off the spit and fried so it's got a little crunch to it. Cool and creamy tzatziki sauce. Tomatoes and onions. Other places may have good pita but stale pitas, lots of places have weak tzatziki. This place is mouth watering good. Beware - it's super tiny. Barely enough space to stand and wait for your food, There are a few stools if you want to eat as you stare at the traffic on Western Avenue, but I recommend getting your food to go and sitting in nearby Winnemac Park. I am tired of these so-called "hot dog stands" that try and look all mom and pop but they charge you otherwise. I'm not a huge fans of hot dog stand type food, but every once in awhile you just HAVE to have a hot dog... and this is where I go. Granted, not because they are the best hot dogs in the city or anything, more or less because they are a 2 min walk away. But regardless, I still love Quick Bite. Two brothers own the place and they are always the ones in there making and serving everything. They give really generous portions of everything (one brother more so than the other) and are really nice, laid back guys. It's small in there, just a few stools in front of the windows, so most people take it to go or just eat standing. There is also a walk up window outside(which very people use... but it is an option) and a nice sized parking lot. Remember they are are closed on Sundays. I don't know that I would come from miles away, but if you are sitting in traffic on foster and western and suddenly get that urge for a hot dog, it's a great place to stop. read more

Upon approaching Quick bite, snuggled into the corner of Foster and Western, you'd probably never think about giving them a 5-star review. I've frequented this spot on occassion and it has quickly become one of my favorite hot dog spots in the city. It's really all about Quality-price-ration and with that being said, Quick Bite is insane. I happen to be a hot-dog special aficionado. I've noticed in recent years, that the Two-dog special has dropped from a lot of menus. What a fucking shame. Quick-Bite boasts two dogs, fries and a drink for $3.99. As well, they're dogs are the real deal, the fries are crisp. Just a great spot all around. Stop by on a week day and you'll understand why they're a line out the door.
