Chicago Pickle Eatery on Milwaukee Avenue in Avondale was a pleasant surprise when our foursome went to a nearby facility for drinks and decided to grab some food too. Although we could order food for delivery, my bud and I decided to walk over to place our order direct and then bring the food back to the bar. This gave me the opportunity to check out the eatery, which also sells all sorts of fun food snacks, beverages and products. There are a few tables should you wish to dine there. I ordered a half sandwich and my lovely wife wanted an order of cheese fries. I figured the half "Classic Reuben" would be a nice snack, but the portion looked more like a full sandwich rather than a mere half. The Reuben is served warm and tasty with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing. The cheese fries were generously covered with cheese sauce, and fortunately we ate them fairly quickly so they did not become too soggy. Our friends ordered full sandwiches, and so each sandwich seemed like two sandwiches in size. Needless to say, they had leftover sandwiches to take home. One afternoon decided to grab lunch. I was there to get a good deli sandwich. When I arrived the prices were kind of high so then I decided to go ahead and get a Philly cheesesteak. My order took about 7 minutes. The bread was soft and chewy. The flavor of the meat was good. I overall enjoyed my sandwich. The shop itself is also a grocery store with limited items. I appreciate the elevated chips, desserts and gelato for sale. The cake looked so good but was trying to be good so didn't grab a slice of cake. All in all the my lunch was satisfying. read more

I was excited to try this place out. Definitely an interesting place. I got the pastrami served hot, the problem was that they heated up the sandwich after putting it together, pickles mustard n sauerkraut too. So basically the crunch aspect of the sandwich was gone. Also got the garlic parmesan fries, and those were pretty good. The individual at the register was really nice too which is why they aren't getting 2 stars. If you're looking for a deli sammich...try Fontanos or Mannys. I cant justify spending 40 dollars on 1.5 pastrami sandwiches and large fries especially when they warm the whole thing up. read more

It's an extensive menu and they offer catering too. We came here to specifically try their hot pastrami and corned beef sandwich. It's called the Chicago Pickle sandwich. I got the whole one, not half, and it was magnificent. The meats, Swiss cheese, coleslaw with thousand island dressing, on rye - was so filling, I saved half for later. We also tried the garlic aioli burger and it could have been more rare but what can you do with thinner patties. It was still very good though and it was topped with mushrooms. Looking back, my only tip is to not wrap the sandwich if you're dining in at the restaurant, this will keep everything crisper, it'll remain crunchy and easier to eat as opposed to having a soggy bun and bread. I'd like to come back for the Reuben sandwich and the steak and cheese sub. There's only street parking. I'd also like to try their Uptown location as it's equidistant from my home. I stopped into Chicago Pickle today and grabbed their turkey sub, and I have to say--it was absolutely spot on. The turkey was sliced fresh and piled high, but what really took it over the top were the crisp, fresh toppings. The lettuce and tomato tasted like they had just been sliced with just the right crisp and freshness you'd expect. The red onion had that perfect bite, and the giardiniera added the exact kind of Chicago-style kick I love. Paired with the smooth Swiss cheese and tangy yellow mustard, every bite had the right balance of flavor and crunch. You can tell they really care about quality here--the ingredients don't taste mass-produced, they taste fresh. It's the kind of sandwich that makes you want to slow down and enjoy every bite. Definitely one of my new go-to spots in the neighborhood for a sub that feels both classic and elevated. The garlic fries are INCREDIBLE, and the sandwiches are massive- I got a "half" which is a full normal size sandwich and ate half for lunch- I can't imagine the appetite you would need to smash a full by yourself! I was really craving a chopped cheese for some reason and had seen some influencers hyping this place up so we decided to go check it out. You can tell they were going for the bodega/corner store vibe and it was for the most part they were spot on. They were just missing the random cat (might be a NY thing), everything was well organized and the place was really clean. They had plenty of drink options, chips, and other accoutrements that your local corner store may provide. We ended up ordering an Italian sub, a cheesesteak and a chopped cheese. We also ordered wings and onion rings. Nothing really stood out about the food. We couldn't really taste the difference between the cheesesteak and the chopped cheese. The onion rings were good. The wings were a miss. Overall the service was great and honestly that saved their rating. Everyone there was super friendly and accommodating. read more

The good is the price point & the portions. The bad is this isn't the best rendition of said dishes but they'll more than suffice. Delivery to my office was $7 & I had no idea of the portion size so we ordered extra. My coworker ordered a breakfast sandwich & steak fries which was overkill. I ended up with a cordon bleu & chopped cheese but I endedup giving the 2nd sandwich away. As a family of sandwich lovers, this eatery checks all the boxes!! The service was amazing. We were greeted with smiles and very helpful and patient workers as we discussed the menu. For a family of 5, we got the full spicy Italian, half pastrami, half hummus and veggie, half ruben and a small French fry. The full is huge (we have leftovers to eat later today!). Our favorites were the toasted ruben and pastrami. Each sandwich was served with 2 crispy pickle spears. For everything we ordered, it came out to $50. The space is very clean and has plenty of seating. There is a large chip and drink selection, and of course pickle back brine! They also have a deli to order sliced boars head and cheese. We ordered Chicago Pickle while sitting across the street at Lake Effect. They have an extensive menu and the establishment is well kept and clean. We ordered a tuna melt and would suggest cutting it in half and finding an alternative to wrap it in as it was soggy once we opened it to eat! Additionally, we asked for condiments on a burger to discover it was bone dry. Lastly, these are double patty burgers - you should add that detail to the menu! The name is a little misleading, as they have more than just pickles! Came in to grab sandwiches for dinner and had sooo many options. We wound up getting a buffalo chicken sandwich and a turkey sandwich - both were decent sized portions. The turkey sandwich alone was enough for two people or two meals. This place slaps! It opened this past year down the street from my house and my husband and I cannot get enough. We normally get it for delivery and every sandwich we have had is fire. My favorite is the chipotle steak add horseradish sauce. We mostly get it delivered on Doordash but went in this week and met the owner. The shop is so cute and the owner was so welcoming. Walked in for my second trip to the Chicago Pickle Eatery and ordered the Super Deluxe Burger and Potato Wedges. Probably a top 3 burger in the city for me! Absolutely delicious and well constructed. Wedges were crispy and piping hot as well. Tried the chopped cheese on my first trip (which was very good) but that burger will keep me coming back again and again. I ordered the buffalo chicken cheese fries and they were ready when the app said they would be. Took them home and they satisfied my craving! This is my go-to place for sandwiches and wraps. The portions are HUGE! I live pretty much across the street and couldn't ask for a better New York style deli in my neighborhood.
