NO MORE!!!! the new management is ruining the good feel about this restaurant. First, they cancelled the opportunity to order a take out over the phone. They disregarded our explanation that we live next door and used to order the take out from them. NO MORE take out for us because management REFUSED!!!! Why??? who knows?? They are saying that people taking phone orders are making too many mistakes. WOW!!! such a grate (NOT) reason to refuse a service to a customer. Today we had a second non defendable behavior from The Fish's management. They tried to sneak a MANDATORY 20% service charge into the check - BEFORE TAXES!!!!!!!!! Nowhere in the menu it is saying 20% mandatory gratuity.... Be AWARE of the new The Fish Management sneaky behavior. I do not mind leaving a tip but I do not want to be pressured to leave one regardless of the service. The restaurant's new management just lost two of their loyal multi-year customers because of their greed. read more

I had lunch with a colleague this week at The Fish and really enjoyed it! I looked for sushi specials near downtown, found way more than I bargained for, and somehow narrowed down to come here. The drive was short, I found some cheap metered parking across the street, and always enjoy the vibe of this part of town- streets were clean, more trees than downtown, and overall seems less hectic. Anyways, the menu was super extensive, I settled pretty quickly on the sashimi special which was fantastic with nice thick cuts of chef's choice fish. I also got the midtown specialty roll which was just absolutely exquisite. I mean the bite was a bit tall so I had to lay down the fried (lotus?) but it was just such a delight of flavors and textures! The preceding house salad was a nice appetizer, definitely tasty, the choice of cheese (Parmesan I think) was surprising but complemented it well. Overall I really enjoyed the lunch, would have been a reasonable price if I stuck to just the lunch special, but that midtown roll was truly delightful and honestly quite filling even by itself. The waiter was great, he was prompt, provided great suggestions, granted the restaurant wasn't terribly busy when we went but I still felt he had a great balance of tending to our needs and leaving us alone I would definitely come back again for lunch, but I don't know that I'd make the drive all the way for this meal from my part of town (granted it isn't super close!) read more

Such a cute sushi spot. Very nice vibes, can definitely see this as a go to date spot. Great location with plenty eateries and bars around. My friend and I went the other night and sat at the bar. The bartender was super friendly and suggested we get the leche martini and an off menu sushi roll called the m&m. She had me when she said off menu item, I can be so basic at times lol. I enjoyed The Fish. It's a chill spot for a casual meet up. The decor is perfect for pics. The parking was easy, $6 for 2 hours. The food was really good. I tried 3 different rolls, chicken fried rice, and truffle fries. There were 3 of us and we all had a lychee martini . None of us wanted a 2nd drink, they were kind of expensive and just ok. Delicious food!! Probably one of my top favorite sushi roll place. Their sushi rolls are more unique than the regular "California roll, dragon roll, etc." that you commonly get at sushi places. I don't like raw fish but my friends got the sashimi & nigiri and they all looked amazing! Very nicely presented. Their volcano sushi is so extra. lol they legit have it lit on fire... Initially we wanted to dine in but the tables weren't really spread out. So we ordered take away and had the Korean bbq beef and miso cod bento boxes. We got the food in about 15 minutes and turned out parts of the meal were missing. The host/waitress gave us the small plate on cod instead of the bento from lunch menu where we clearly ordered from it. We waited another 10 mins for the missing items and no one apologized for the mistake. Miso cod was tasty and will definitely ordered again. Korean bbq beef wasn't our favorite. There were 4 small pieces but the brussel sprouts were amazing. Good thing it came with a salad, miso soup and 3 pieces of rolls. Overall, I think it's still overpriced for the portion. I have never heard of this restaurant and have been to a couple of the restaurants in midtown, so to my surprise, this place is about to celebrate 20 years!! It's a cute little date night spot. I took my husband and we sat at a booth. Our waitress was very kind and friendly and gave us great recommendations. We got drinks to start and some small plates. The chicken Karrage was something special. We typically are use to the Karrage that has spicy mayo as dip and this did not, it was actually the best Karrage I have had. We got the beef ribeye roll & I wasn't impressed lol, it was just basic in my opinion. I would not get it again. For the rolls, we got spider, shoi and Poseidon. The shoi was my favorite cause it had a crisp to it. If I went again, I would only get the nigiri. The hand rolls are a bit much. The Kobe burger however was actually really good. We got it with an egg and the bread is sweet but not too sweet. Very soft & the perfect combination. Our beef was cooked right (medium rare)! I really enjoyed it. De-licious! I just recently learned of The Fish and decided to give it a try. Very glad I did! They have a great location in Midtown and multiple parking options (either valet, street parking, or parking lot conveniently located behind the restaurant). Food was awesome. I highly recommend the crab appetizer (see photo). I tried some assorted nigiri and a sushi roll. They've got some unique fish types that you sometimes can't find at other places (example: salmon belly). Service was extremely friendly as well! I was there on a Saturday during early afternoon so it wasn't too busy. However, I would recommend a reservation for dinner because it could get very busy. To start we had Brussels sprouts and chicken karaage and for our meal we had two specialty rolls - the Volcano and the Fish - and blue crab fried rice. The things I enjoyed the most were the Brussels sprouts, chicken karaage and the Fish roll. The blue crab fried rice tasted a bit fishy to me, as did the volcano roll, but they were still both good. The fish roll was super fresh and the flavors of the strawberry and avocado came through in a great way. The cucumber also added a nice crunch! The Fish is a trendy sushi place with a sleek, circular design in the heart of Midtown Houston. It was an easy walk to my hotel so I came here for solo dinner. I was pleased that they had Happy Hour until 7pm with nigiri at $1.50 for most items and $2.50 for premium items. I had the audacity to ask the waitress whether the price referred to one piece or two, LOL! I made my own omakase with about 11 assorted pieces of my usual favorites. Overall fish quality was fresh, and most pieces were melt-in-mouth. Rice was properly seasoned and loosely-packed, but slightly colder than I like. I also recommend getting their off-menu Veggie Tempura for $7. Very crispy and always good to sneak some veggies in. Flavorful and warm with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. I was on cloud nine. The runner up was the salmon belly nigiri. Also phenomenal. I'm drooling. FOOD: Everything else was delicious as well. Tried a few rolls (Surf and Turf and Shoi) and they were fantastic. The chicken karaage was terrific and very unique from any other versions I've tried before (different breading). Let's start with the decor shall we. It's a fairly modern place nestled in the midtown/ downtown area. It boast booth and tables that can accommodate a larger party. My boyfriend and I came for lunch and ordered half the menu so I feel as though I can give a fair review of all the food. We first started with the lobster puffs which are a fried cream cheese and lobster roll that comes with a unique soy sauce that had peppers. The flavor of the rolls were good and the sauce gave a nice vinegar flavor that went really well with the salty and creaminess of the cream cheese 4/5. Next, we tried the Blue crab fried rice. THIS WAS AMAZING. The picture does not do the crab justice because it had the largest pieces of crab meat I had ever see and the flavor were great! I would definitely reorder if I go back there. 5/5! The sushi took well over 35 minutes to come out after we finished our appetizer. The waiter said they were waiting to cook the Kobe beef and kitchen was backed up. The waiter was very nice about the situation but it did take a while to come out. I personally ordered the Philly square roll which was pretty good. I feel as though there could have been more flavor for all that was inside the roll but it was good. 3/5 I tried my boyfriends surf and turf roll and I wasn't impressed but he like it. I found the lobster and Kobe beef didn't pair well but I am a newbie to sushi so my palate may not be refined enough to give it a fair rating 2/5. Overall I enjoyed my lunch at this restaurant. Came here while visiting from out of town. Overall we had a good experience but not a great one. The biggest bummer is that the Fatty Tuna market price was $45 for 5 PIECES of sashimi. That is sheer robbery. We have gotten so many different kinds of sashimi at different places at market price and nothing has ever been that ludicrous. We also got Salmon Belly (I've had better), Dynamite Shrimp (that was delicious), Steamed Dumplings (delicious), a few Nigiri, Godzilla roll (good but too creamy), Yellowtail Jalapeño (again, I've had better) and another spicy roll that I can't remember the name of. My friend made a reservation a few days prior to our arrival. We were seated almost immediately after checking in. For my first meal in Houston, I was slightly disappointed. I ordered the truffle fries, salmon/tuna/yellowtail nigiri (one piece of each), the fish roll, and the surf and turf roll. The truffle fries came out first. My nigiri arrived shortly after the truffle fries, but my rolls arrived last. By the time it arrived, I was already pretty full and could only try a piece of each roll. The pieces I had were tasty, but I wasn't blown away by the flavors that were presented together. I ended up packing up my food to go. First of all, I love that you can make a reservation for The Fish on OpenTable. So that's always a plus. We were visitors in Houston, so the parking was a little tricky because we didn't know how to pay for the parking garage. Besides that, the food was so good. My friend ordered the truffle fries (not pictured) and they were DELICIOUS. Very seasoned and crisp. I was really excited to try the Lychee Martini because I read in some reviews that it wasn't strong in alcoholic taste. I love fruity drinks, but I ended up giving it to my friend because the alcohol was so strong. I drank more of his cucumber spritzer than I did my own lychee martini. In the end, my friend ended up drinking all our drinks because we couldn't stand the alcohol taste. The spicy salmon hand roll was delicious. Salmon in an open water state is always better and I feel like the salmon was good quality, melted in my mouth. Salmon and the chopped scallops were delicious as well. The one thing I would say is that I wished the poke bowl had more fish. I felt like the fish to rice ratio was very small and that I was mainly getting full off of rice and crab meat. The food is delicious but the service by the wait staff and manager is bad. We arrived prior to any lunch hour rush and were the second table (2 people) to be seated. We even ordered our food while giving our drink order just to hurry things along. A chicken teriyaki bento box took almost 40 mins to come out!!! We were the second group seated!! There were 5 people (2 of them being us) in the restaurant when we put our order in. There shouldn't be a reason why it took 40 mins for the bento box to come out. On top of that we had to ask the waitress where the wine that was ordered was at. Where the appetizer was at. The waitress didn't even bother to check on us. We ended up finding out that the waitress took our bento box to another table. So her attention to detail is not good. The guy who busses the tables (Victor) is more attentive to attending the tables than the actual waitress. Oh and make sure you check your receipts to make sure you've been charged the right amount. I've been charged more than I should've because the waiter (manager) decided to tip himself a $24 tip after I had already signed a different tip. read more
