This place came recommended from the staff at Southern Tier distillery. The area, Bemus Point, is on the water with lots of restaurants and docks for the boats to tie up... really cute. The restaurant is split into two (upstairs or downstairs). Decided to dine on the upstairs patio, which had a beautiful view of the lake. If you're looking for light, fresh options, go with the Ahi Poke and/or the Scallop salad. read more

We decided to try this restaurant because of it's lakefront location. Although the views are superb and the service was very good, the other key ingredients were not. The food was mediocre and way over-priced -- you really have to pay for this view. The overall cleanliness was marginal at best: our table had not been properly wiped off. The restrooms were abominable and in need of repair: two tight, tiny stalls for ladies and the men's room was no better. And this is for the street-level part of the restaurant, with no handicap accommodation. We could not imagine how these restrooms could properly handle peak summer season business. There was a serious insect issue, and behind us, a loud bug-zapper was sounding off (ugh). We would not recommend this restaurant. read more

We went in three weeks ago to celebrate a friend's birthday. They were accommodating with the reservation for a large party on a Thursday night. I was concerned as I have heard and read many terrible reviews, but the birthday girl wanted crab legs so off we went. Our server was very sweet and tried very hard to give us a pleasant experience. I asked if they serviced prime rib on Thursdays as many places don't, and was glad to be told that the Fish did! I was disappointed to be served a tough, extra-well done piece of beef after ordering it medium rare. They included a half-shot-glass-worth of au jus, and did not provide a steak knife. Hacking away at this with a butter knife was a real challenge. The server was running her tail off (definitely not appropriately staffed) and admittedly didn't stop back to check on things. She did, however, accommodate separate checks and got everything on them split perfectly. The server is the only reason that this review receives even two stars. I will never go back. read more

The Fish is hands down the best location in Bemus Point. We have been coming to Bemus for 20+ years, and over the past year was a little skeptical of The Fish because of previous experiences. We went in tonight and decided to give it another try because it was such a lovey evening. Our server, Kerri, was attentive and personable. Everything came out in timely manner. We were both pleasantly surprised by the quality of our dinners. Kerri was knowledgeable of the menu and we appreciated her recommendations. Let me start this review by talking about the service. We arrived at this restaurant at 7pm, after having called at around 3:30 and making reservations for 9 people at 7pm. We told the hostess we had said reservation and she looked at us with confusion and informed us that there would be a VERY long wait for a party of our size. She looked through the papers which had the reservations (all the while insisting that we would have to wait) and finally found that ours was written down. We then waited another 15 minutes while they set up our table. We ordered our drinks and food soon after we were seated but then had to wait about 30 minutes for bread -- which we only received after one of us got up to track down a waiter and ask for a third time. The bread had clearly just come out of a refrigerator -- it was almost ice-cold. We also got our silverware and napkins after about 30 minutes of sitting down. We finally got our food about an hour into our time at The Fish, though the three salads took an additional 10 minutes to arrive. Now onto the food: 1. scallops, mussels, tuna nachos, and calamari were all decent, though nothing extraordinary. 2. my cousin ordered the fajitas with no meat. On the menu, the fajitas are promised to come with "shredded cheese, lettuce, diced tomatoes, avocado, and sour cream." she received a plate of sautéed peppers/onions and three tortillas- thats it. (see photo A) 3. the panzanella salad came with no bread whatsoever and was about half the size of the other two salads we ordered even though it's listed in the same section of the menu and is similarly priced. (see photos B and C) they took off the price of one of our glasses of wine because we complained about the panzanella so that was nice. 4. the other two salads had unripe avocados and were about 90% huge chunks of lettuce (see photo D) and had no carrots (as promised on the menu) and when we told the waitress we were informed that they purposely didn't put carrots on because "the carrots are in the downstairs kitchen and it would have taken a long time to go all the way down there to get them" 5. the salmon was burnt. This was overall an unpleasant experience and the only thing this restaurant has going for it is its view of the lake. Our first-time waitress was very kind and was doing the best she could; it's clear that the problem at The Fish is systemic and that the bottom line is that it is mismanaged at its core. Do not go here until they completely overhaul the way they serve their customers and prepare their food. read more

Always loved the location of this place and we enjoyed it when it was the Italian fisherman. Went on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Service : decent no complaints and no wows. She ordered the bisque. Meh. Came with stale crackers. $3 up charge to get bread instead? Nah. I got chicken fajita bowl. After I slogged through the gallon of canned queso to get to the chicken, I found the meat tasty and well cooked. The rest was terrible. So much cheese sauce everything else was hidden. My sister, cousin and I went there for lunch after we finished touring The National Comedy Center, we went there for lunch. I had their Loaded Veggie Wrap. It was delicious! We had guests in from NYC and I mentioned the consistently bad YELP reviews for The Fish. They wanted to see for themselves, and sure enough - by the time we left, our table, and the two tables near us had all received apologies - never a good sign. Of out 6 meals, 4 came out together after a long wait, and then 15 minutes later another came out, with the explanation that another waitress had taken the last one - which finally came out in another 15 minutes - a full 1/2 hour after the first ones. I know things happen, but that fact that 3 / 3 table all had similar issues suggest a management problem. read more

I hate to write reviews that are this negative, particularly because my wife and I are guests in this lovely town. But our experience with the food here was (almost) entirely awful. We visited on a Tuesday, so I wouldn't expect freshness of the fish to be an issue. We ordered Mussels in a white broth, and the near-acrid, sour flavor of the broth was a giveaway to a problem with the mussels --sent back and replaced with a Caesar salad that was serviceable if not inspiring. Our main was broiled haddock ("fish fry" without the fry) and the fish was over salted and so dry as to require gulps of my beer between bites. Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself. After doing research for restaurants near Bemus Point, we noted that The Fish was dead last on Trip Advisor with terrible reviews. Lo and behold, we went here anyway. And guess what? It was utterly horrendous. I'll focus on the one meal in particular that was appalling: the chicken fajitas. Well, they arrived with a side of tortillas the size of a drink coaster. Not only were they too small and offered no practical value, but they were hard and tasteless. But wait, it gets better. The side of rice was absolutely, 100% the dehydrated Minute Rice that you mix with hot water... yet STILL not even prepared properly! The rice was crunchy and unfit for an animal. We would have been happy with microwave-in-a-bag rice, but it's unfathomable how this hard, crunchy stuff made its way on to our plate. There was also a side of corn salsa that was equally inedible. It was mushy, bland aside from a strong taste of freezer burn, and tasted like something you might feed the animals at a petting zoo. I don't need to add fuel to the fire. As every review suggests, as the lack of customers suggest, this place will be out of business... SOON. read more

The outdoor seating, music and drinks are just fine. Nice place to sit on the water. Staff seems overwhelmed trying to keep up with Tables. Where they really need help is the food. Bowls are nothing more that food on top of rice. Missing freshness, herbs, and layers of flavor. Fish fry was overdone with thick batter....lighten up here. They really need a food consult to improve here, and then they could compete with nearby EBC. read more

After waiting 45 minutes?! for a $40 steak, it was Rare (ordered Med) and extremely grisly. After sending it back to be cooked up a bit, my brother choked through it because he was starving and we did not have the time to order anything else. I NEVER complain but let the waitress know we were not happy with our meal and she said she would talk to someone. A man came out from the back asking what was wrong, when I explained in a nice way he immediately shot back with "well you ate it" and " its supposed to be a fatty steak". I like fatty steak, that was not the problem. He then proceeded to talk to me condescendingly - making it seem like I was in the wrong for even daring to complain, and there was nothing he could do and dropped the check and walked away. I was not even looking for a free meal, just acknowledgement, apology, offer a free dessert? The waitress was new and very sweet, she was really embarrassed and then said she had just been yelled at by him earlier. I gave her a good tip, then told her to find another job. This used to be the nicest place in Bemus and I was bummed that I wasted my brothers birthday dinner here to take him "somewhere nice". Went on a Tuesday night and it was not at all busy. Bad service, which probably could be improved with better training I'm guessing. Our server seemed like a nice girl but we were missing several things on orders, drinks were sent back more than once, and the food was so bland. I am not a person who writes reviews or complains much, but out of our party of 9....none of us were impressed. We expected a lot more. It's sad because the atmosphere is great, but so much needs to be done here. Teach your bartenders to make margaritas and simple bar drinks, servers should have hair pulled back so it's not in people's food, and stock your bathroom with toilet paper. New owner, new chef, new menu This was our go-to place last summer. We loved the menu and ambiance. They've taken the high end items off the dining room menu, but there were still some of our old favorites. Unfortunately, now they are watery and flavorless. We had the scallops and the seafood pasta. The scallops were undercooked in both dishes. The only flavor in the scallop dish was the capers, which were plentiful, but the sauce was watered down. It had tomatoes in it, but you couldn't really taste them. The pasta dish was large, maybe a half pound of spaghetti, with shrimp, mussels and scallops. Should have been good, but the pasta was apparently served in the pasta water. There was a little Parmesan on top, but not enough. Our bread came straight from the freezer and was cold, a little hard in the middle as it was still frozen. We requested olive oil or butter, and received butter. Apparently they no longer provide warm breads and olive oil. Our server was pleasant and doing the best she could. It is still a lovely, relatively quiet place to have a meal with friends. We were weekly visitors last summer, but unless things improve food-wise, our next visit will be our last. read more

Tom the owner is extremely rude and would not talk to us regarding service. Came with a party of 10, we called 3x spoke with 2 people with set reservations. Came to restaurant and no one even knew we were coming. Hostess would not get a manager just did not allow us to sit outside. (( Side bar: you could tell this happens all the time )) We waited 2.5 hours to get our food. No bar backs to clear our table. Our poor waitress was running all over the place. We had to ask for our silverware. THEN! Finally We get our food at 930 pm. 2 dishes were the same and they looked completely different ! Way too much spice. Half the table was served and finished eating before 3 people got food then the last meal was served 10 min later! The rice on all the meals was flavorless. The Chilean sea bass was a good piece of meat however no seasoning at all! At the price of the meal it was very unsatisfactory. The owner would not come talk to us or try to remedy the situation. The manager helped to assist but you could tell that this happens all the time. I would never eat here such a waste of money. Multiple people returned their food and got discounts. My boyfriend and I took a short weekend vacation to Chautauqua. The Fish was a beautiful restaurant with fantastic views of the lake while we dined. The food was beautifully presented. I had the sesame seared ahi tuna and my boyfriend had the duck. About half an hour after dinner I turned red from head to toe, had the shivers, couldn't breath, and my heartbeat was elevated. This was second strike, there won't be a third. In fairness to all the businesses genuinely struggling for a number of reasons during covid, the 1st strike was 2.5 years ago. But, my friend hadn't been and it was her girls' night birthday get together. So, despite never hearing a good word since strike one, I figured I'd try again. Both encounters included slow service, terrible drinks (and common things that any reasonable trainee bartender can make, martini, margarita, standard stuff), food coming out cold and burnt simultaneously or just cold, missing food items, a hair in one person's meal. The view is the only thing this place has going. And there are other places within walking distance with lovely views and exponentially better products and services. Honestly, hit up anywhere else in Bemus and enjoy a Rocker at the Lenhart to soak in the view, you'll be so much happier. Greetings, We recently ate at The Fish and we're so excited that it was under new ownership, but now are second guessing that. We have eaten there a lot well on our yearly family vacation. The fish has a great outdoor deck that we can drive our boat up to, but... it's always been pretty mediocre and still is. There New menu is all over the place? Our group of 10 had 3 bowls of there seafood angel hair pasta, 2 orders of tuna, 2 vegetarian curry, 2 short ribs, and 1 salmon. The only food that was remotely decent was the short ribs (and the were pretty basic, our pastas were flavorless but did have quite a bit of over cooked fish on it, salmon and tuna were a joke, tuna had mushy overlooked veggies and unfried fried noodle things, it was also lacking any flavor profile at all, the salmon was in the same category, the veggie curry I won't even write about because I don't want to be to mean. Really sad that this place actually got worse with the new ownership, but with the lack of customers on a Friday night in the middle of there busy season maybe someone else will buy it and make a good food spot. read more

When the family is in town we like to hit a few nice spots. Sadly, this was a huge disappointment. We had planned to go to EBC across the way but decided to try this restaurant. The upstairs is beautiful with some seriously high prices to match so we headed downstairs for the more casual dining experience. We sat out on the fish tank area. A couple of us ordered the salmon, they were out - they replaced it with mahi mahi. It came with basmati rice and steamed vegetables. The fish portion small and ok flavor, the rice had undercooked grains and was slightly larger then a golf ball portion. The vegetables were either barely steamed or overdone- on the same plate. $17. Next up..my son ordered a Cuban, no mayo...what he got was no pickles and that's an important part of a Cuban sandwich. We thought there were two meats- a Cuban is usually salami and pork but this one was just Canadian ham and cheese. This was not that great and without pickles it really wasn't good. I did tell our waiter and he immediately put in a fresh order. The fries were awesome. Definitely order fries if you go here. Steak was blah and more medium then medium rare. Chicken wings were huge and good. Tons of spaghetti on the chicken parm plate. I would be highly leary of paying the high prices upstairs based on the average to low quality downstairs. We decided to give it a try even though they didn't have their liquor license yet. The location is beautiful, but frankly that's the only reason to go. The food was below mediocre and the service was lacking. It's a new restaurant, I'm sure they have a learning curve to deal with, but I don't like to pay full price while they learn how to run a restaurant. Pro: We sat on the outdoor floating patio. The weather was beautiful and its great to sit on the water. Cons: Food - Burgers were overcooked (when they don't ask you how you want your burger done, it's probably a sign your not getting a good burger). My daughter (kids menu) got fruit with her fries. That could have been a big plus in my book, but the fruit wasn't served in a bowl, so the fruit juice made the fries soggy - this is what I mean by learning how to run a restaurant, it's the small stuff that matters. Service - wait staff seemed inexperienced. My waitress rushed me to sign my check so she should close her shift and go home. When we left, we just got stares from the servers all congregated in the back. No "thanks for coming" or "have a nice day". Again, learning how to run a restaurant. Ownership has their hands full getting this team in shape. Meh: Menu was average size but unimpressive. Didn't really see a "signature" item. I really was hoping for fish tacos. The place is called "The Fish", right? Not that you need to have a fish taco, it just seemed like a place that would. Overall disappointing. We were so excited when we first saw this restaurant, lovely elegant decor inside, and inviting patio seating upstairs and downstairs on the water. There are limited fine restaurants in the areas so we had high hopes. Sadly, the food did not impress. We ordered the calamari which was a crunchy batter with a side of chili glaze sauce. They were edible, but the presentation was simply brown calamari and a side or sauce, no lemons, garnish etc... Not overwhelming. Next we ordered the crab cakes. They were like dry hockey pucks from too much breadcrumbs. Usually crab cakes has a softer, juicier texture of crab with a light batter on the outside. We ate a few bites and left them on the plate. I am happy that we didn't share the lobster tail entree which was the original plan. My husband and I each got a salad, house salad filled with croutons, large chunks of tomato and onion, my frisee' salad was okay, but the extra goodies, cheese, berries was minimal compared to the lettuce. We ate less than half of our salads. Next, we decided to order a bottle of wine (which was priced well for a high end California Cab) and a safe cheese plate. We enjoyed our wine and cheese, but would not order anything beyond that unless a new chef is hired. On a side note, a heavy person would not be able to fit in the women's restroom. The door to the toilet is within a few inches of opening door to the bathroom. I am thin and it was tight. Servers need to be knowledgeable, taste the food, white wine offerings were limited, basically one cheap bottle of Chardonnay for $60 fish entrees. This made no sense! Sorry to say, try The Landmark in Jamestown. This was an elegant fine dining option. We live in SF Bay Area and were impressed. I hope The Fish can improve both food and service because the location can't be beat. read more

Tonight eight gals decided to have our monthly dinner out at The Fish. We chose the lower patio for a casual dinner menu. Two of us ordered the Beef on Weck. I am in my sixties and have experienced Buffalo's Beef on Weck. Our order arrived with a very sad roll and beef that had very noticeable pieces of fat! Never have I had Beef on Weck with fat. I pulled off at least 2 tablespoons of fat. Complained to the waitress but no effort was made to correct my plate or my friend's. Will not go back or recommend. read more

My Bloody Mary was good, but that's where the positive ends, unfortunately. Not a good experience here at all. The food was awful and we waited quite a while to get our meals (no it wasn't busy at all). We ate the calamari but it was way overcooked. The crab cakes had a strange color to them and were very mushy. We had to push our main dishes aside (there were 4 of us) because they were that bad. Don't even try to order the chicken and waffles. It's a chicken strip on what seems to be a frozen type waffle. Oh and everyone's food came out at a different time. My husband (who never complains) couldn't take it anymore and went and talked to the manager. She told us not to pay for anything and we left. Hope they can figure out how to make this place better. The worst service I have ever had in my life. My boyfriend asked for peanut butter pie to come out before our meals. She said she had to go downstairs to check for that. We asked her three times & we never received the pie. He ordered a cheeseburger, my mother ordered a chicken pesto sandwich and I ordered a side salad with ranch & the lobster bisque. Their food was good & mine was too. The problem is management & service. I saw her bring my soup to another table only to be whisked away & then back to my table after she brought it back in. I got my soup without my salad & before anyone else's meal. I had to Repeatedly ask for napkins, Which came out 29 minutes later. I never got my salad until EVERYONE else was done eating. When I did get my salad, I waited another 20 minutes for my FORK! So unacceptable! The manager was utterly clueless...just walking around farting with stuff that didn't matter. People are leaving & he doesn't even notice. This place could be a goldmine if they just get with the program. They just don't care. Food was good but overpriced. We came here for a late lunch on July 5th. Terrible food, terrible service. There was no chicken on my chicken & pesto sandwich, and the cauliflower in my steamed vegetables side were still frozen! Literally frozen. They did not have sufficient staffing. Tables next to us had no silverware & tables were not bused while we were there. It took us 2 hours from start to finish, most of this time was spent waiting. Waiting for someone to bring drinks, waiting for food, waiting for our bill. This place used to be a destination in Bemus Point, but it's now a shadow of it's former self when it used to be The Italian Fisherman. I do not recommend it & we will not dine here again. The only thing it has going for it now is just the view. Such a shame it's declined to this point. read more

There is nothing else like it but unfortunately that's all there is. The food was average at best. Not much flavor and several people in our party didn't get everything that was ordered. The drinks were lackluster to say the least. A simple margarita was nothing but sour mix. I don't believe the staff has been trained properly and that is a travesty. We waited 50 minutes for our food & it still came out in stages, & not even the kids food first. The bathrooms weren't very clean. Only one stall locked. The atmosphere is amazing, and the food is good, but priced a little high. I get it, though. Bills need to be paid. We visited in time for the brunch menu (about 3p) and had salads and a lobster roll. All were very good. The dinner menu did not look nearly as interesting.The cornhole court was quiet at that time of day and super fun. The views are awesome. The staff was really friendly and helpful. We met friends for lunch - the two of us women got salads and they were decent, although the menu said it included cucumbers and there were none in my bowl. The croutons were just about inedible.....very, very hard. Our husbands got a beef on weck and a Reuben - both of which were mediocre at best. I'm sure we spent over $100 and just were not impressed with what we got in return. I do miss the Italian Nachos that used to be on the menu under the previous ownership. Friends warned us not to eat here. We should have listened. We decided to give it a try and ordered online. The ordering and online payment process went smoothly and was really easy. I received a text message that our food would be ready at 6:29 pm - about 20 minutes after we ordered. So far, so good. My husband made the 5 minute walk down to pick up our food. At 6:50, our food was still not ready, and my husband messaged me that people were walking out and complaining that their food was cold. Our dinner was finally ready about 25 minutes later than promised. When we unpacked our food at home, the soup was missing - a $10.00 lobster and crab bisque. The food we did get was as-ordered, but it did need to be reheated. It was fine, but nothing special and certainly not worth what it cost. We won't eat there again - not even for the fantastic location and view. read more
