It had a good following of characters he used to refer to as Mother's Little Army with everyone affectionately referring to him as "Mother." So, there is some interest history to it and a lot of stories, most of them sounding rather embellished but in fact true. Being located in a somewhat depressed town and within an even more depressed location it's divey and really doesn't amount to much but there's nothing to fret as the crowd is friendly and the area safe.

The speed of service, order accuracy, temperature of food, quality of food, cleanliness, and bartender friendliness has drastically declined. I've had fewer issues dine in, but a ton of problems with takeout. The straw that broke the camel's back was ordering saucy wings for takeout with extra ranch and paying for extra ranch. Waiting a long time to order a drink and tell them I was there for my order. My drink came with a fruit or drain fly in it and I waited forever on a not even busy night for the bartender to give me my takeout. When I got home they weren't saucy at all, were cold (I live only 7 mins away), and I only had 1 blue cheese when I ordered and paid for EXTRA RANCH. Even if I did eat blue cheese (NEVER) 1 isn't enough for a double order of wings. I had to go back out to the store 3 mins away and stand in line to buy ranch for my already cold wings. My parents who were regular burger eaters there(at least once a month) won't go back after getting dry burnt burgers too many times.

Steener's Pub popped up and the reviews were good. Located in Bemus Point just a couple of miles from I 86 made for a convenient stop. Steener's is located a bit outside of the Bemus Point main drag, but there are a couple of other businesses nearby. The building looks modern from the outside, inside it looks like the original bar area has been there quite a while, they then added a dining room and later a second dining room. The decor is casual tavern style, lots of wood and mellow colors without much extra. The menu is a nice mix of typical bar food with a good selection of fish and seafood which makes sense for a place so near to Chautauqua Lake. Service was good, the waitress was friendly. I ordered the fish and chips since it was highlighted in the menu. The order came out quickly, a huge batter fried fish fillet on top of a load of fries with side cups of tarter sauce and coleslaw. The fries and coleslaw were just what you expect, good but nothing special. The fish was outstanding, mild flaky white fish in a perfectly crunchy coating; delicious and very satisfying. My only complaint was that while it was nicely presented on a square plate, having the huge fish fillet on top of the fries made it difficult to eat since I had to move the fish around to get to the fries and cutting the fish with the fries underneath did not work well. I appreciate attractive food presentation is important, but this was too much food for the size of the plate. I really liked my dinner at Steener's, if they could raise the level of the side dishes to match the fried fish this would be truly exceptional. Keep making great fish, just upgrade the rest of food to match.
