Although the food was good the waiter was in a crazy rush. I don't eat appetizers because there's always too much food. With that hubby does. He ordered wings split. Garlic and med. they were great except they came with his dinner and mine. She didn't even give us enough time to complete our salad or cocktail. If you're trying to have a quick meal and hurriedly then this is the place. If you're trying to enjoy some courses I don't suggest coming here. If you happen to be on the Southern Tier Expressway (I-86, NY 17) between Salamanca and Jamestown, it's worth getting off at the Steamburg exit for this gem. Located in a unassuming building is a restaurant with a very friendly welcome, a well-stocked bar, and a large menu with good homestyle food. We arrived early on a Saturday evening and the place was nearly full for their prime rib / seafood buffet which contained everything one could want for a filling meal. Two options existed, one plateful or all-you-could eat, both at reasonable prices. To start, I had a tasty salad with house ranch dressing and my wife had French Onion soup. We opted for menu items: steak and garlic shrimp, and a queen prime rib (not off the buffet). We both had twice baked potato and a little side of fruit garnished each plate. If Hide-a-Way wasn't 2+ hours away, we'd be frequent visitors. But it was a beautiful day to enjoy the fall foliage and take a long ride. They are just outside of Allegany State Park and a half hour from Holiday Valley ski resort in Ellicottville. Just don't go on E-ville's fall festival (as we did) or you'll be stuck in the biggest traffic backup imaginable! read more

Stopped in for the the first time on a Sunday. Very impressed. I believe our waitress was the owner, she was very nice and informative. We started with the buffalo crunch sticks with sweet chili salsa sauce for dipping. Think battered egg roll wrapper filled with chicken wing dip. Nice crunch and a little spice, but was off set with the dipping sauce. Two of us ordered prime rib. One princess cut, one King, both lived up to their name. They were well seasoned and grilled on the outside while being cooked perfectly on the inside. I had a tasty twice baked potato while my sister had fresh cut fries. They could have used a little more time in the fryer, as the middles were uncooked. Our third party member got the pasta primavera. Mixed vegetable medley served on top of a heaping portion of linguine noodles with a light delicious garlic butter sauce. The atmosphere is no frills, but it was clean and quaint. There is a dining room and a bar area. The bar has a lighter menu, burgers, fingers, wings. The waitress told us she will serve either menu in either room, you just have to ask. First timer here. I probably drove by this place five hundred times and never stopped because I thought it was a dive bar in the middle of nowhere. We stopped tonight and were not disappointed. Even though the decor was nothing fancy, the food was pretty darn good. Portions were perfect and it was tasty. Staff was really friendly and accommodating. Why not 5 stars? Two reasons: 1. Took a while to get appetizers and main dish 2. Not handicap accessible I would definitely stop by here again. Went for the first time last night. We made a reservation and our table was waiting for us when we got there. Service was great, very friendly. We both had the fish fry which was delicious. The coating was crispy and thin, not greasy and thick. The fries are fresh cut and the cole slaw homemade...both very tasty. Stopped here after a backpacking trip. Very Unassuming place, just a house with a small bar and maybe 10 tables in the dining room. Rustic and basic décor. Sunday was the dinner buffet for $12 a head. Maybe 8 entries and 5 sides, and a few extras, but just about every one of them was beyond perfect home-style cooking. Million times better than your typical great American golden ponderosa coral buffet that might have more items, but don't come near on the quality.... The baked chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly; Kielbasa was the best I've ever eaten, beyond succulent.... Salsbury steak was prepared the right way ( I will never look at a swanson meal again),...stuffed chicken breasted was tender covered in creamy goodness.... Stuffed peppers were as g good as grandma made. Real old style scalloped potatoes and mashed potatoes with chicken gravy. I could go on but I would probably make me crave it all and end up driving the 3 hours back There was also a salad bar,( mainly for show with the main attractions listed above)), and wide selections of deserts. I had bread pudding which was spiced perfectly with a cream dollop of cream, and a slice of peanut butter mousse cake which was better than some $10 deserts I've had at high end restaurants This was just the buffet too, regular menu looked very appealing as well. Someone ordered a burger and the portions look ginormous, so regardless you won't leave hungry. There were two or so items that were just "above average", and even if all the items were at that level it would still be a positive experience, but the majority of the items were on a whole other level for home-style cooking. If I am ever in SW NY/ NW PA again I would go out of my way. PS the map on yelp is incorrect. The address is right but it's mapped wrong. It is not in randolph, but rather off the Steamburg exit just west of the reservoir. Head north then Veer left and it will be on the left. read more

Great food in a casual, local setting. The menu is extensive and the specials are worth checking out. I went with a recommendation from some long-time customers - the stuffed halibut. It's a huge piece of fish, stuffed with krab (with a k) and homemade stuffing. And then smothered in butter. It's delicious, but HUGE. For the side, try the twice-baked potato. Can't go wrong with bacon and cheese. Prices are eminently reasonable. All entrees are under $20, and will fill you up and then some. Yelp helped us find this hidden gem on our long drive back to our home in Ithaca,NY from Cleveland, OH (our hometown)! It was so comforting to eat a large home cooking style meal after leaving our family and sitting in the car for a few hours! My favorite buffet items were the baked breaded chicken legs, macaroni and cheese, and the stuffed mushrooms! The service was great and we will definitely be back next time we are on 86 headed toward Cleveland again! One of our favorite spots for a fish fry! I always get the New England clam chowder (nice meaty clams) and my wife the potato cheddar bacon soup (it's like mashed potatoes in a cup!) The reviews brought us in. The restaurant is convenient to the freeway. The place is clean and casual. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The menu has a large selection of main dishes with prices that were on the higher side. Our party tried the stuffed mushrooms and warm rolls which were good. We also had bacon cheddar soup (potatoes were too large, but generous amounts of cheese and bacon) and french onion soup. Both were too hot to eat. After a wait, our entrees arrived and were also too hot to comfortably enjoy. We tried the stroganoff which was made with prime rib (too much sauce), broiled seafood platter, and veal oscar (the veal was somewhat tough). The portions were generous. We had reservations for Easter for our large family gathering, and ended up leaving very disappointed. Our waitress was great, but the hostess which may be the wife of the owner (not sure) came over to us toward the end of the meal telling us that we needed to leave because our reservation was over. She said that the reservations are only an hour and a half. This is something they should've told us prior to us spending over $250... And some of us didn't even get dessert. read more
