From the inviting grocery section to the local meat and cheese, this place is what Whole Foods can never be. Come with jars or plastic bags for the spices, grains, and protein in the bulk aisle. Come Christmas shopping for the artisan baskets displayed above the produce section. The Swanzey SW turkey avocado sandwich was a fun end of Thanksgiving break, complete with sprouts and chipotle mayo. The PBJ and Banana on sourdough was worthy of a tall, cool glass of milk. The Cuban covered all the savory/sour notes! Some of the sandwiches are already prepared in the deli case if you need a little steering. You can grab lunch for $10 or less, even if you're not a co-op member, but we ended up filling the cart while we were at it. Smaller that supermarkets but still a well stocked, this is oasis hiding just off Main Street, and better yet, this co-op has its own parking lot (car and bike). No playing with parking meters or gambling on the cross walks on the way to this cozy and colorful spot.

French restaurant in Old Town Albuquerque NM, and Mexican restaurant in Manchester NH. Anyways, I love the bulk food and spice section, to get what you want in the quantities you want. The Mr said some of the prices were better than our usual chain grocery store, but some prices are very high. Alas, we live too far to make this a regular stop.

Just had the Walking on Poutine bowl for supper, which was sooo delicious that it prompted this review. Love the roasted potatoes, the lots of mushrooms and caramelized onions, the black bean burger and the sauce! I always add some greens to it, which is the only thing missing, and it tastes amazing. We also like Amy's quesadilla and the Reuben bowl a lot. I used to think that the Farm Cafe food was too greasy, but they've gotten a lot better about this and now we order takeout almost every week. The bakery items are really good too. The only thing we haven't liked is their Mac and cheese, which is very bland and tasteless. I need to give them MY vegan Mac and cheez recipe, which is noochaliscious! read more

Even the interior, because so dimly lit, looks ramshackle. But you can't judge this book by its unassuming cover. Exquisite vegan cuisine awaits you inside. My fiancée and I temporarily suspended our WFPB high nutritional standards when she indulged in mock meat and I in sautéed food. No regrets. I savored my small plate of Curried Cider Brussels Sprouts and big plate of Peanut Tofu Noodles. She relished her big plate of Swedish Meatballs (TVP pea protein), which came with a side of the luscious Brussels Sprouts, and she proclaimed her dessert, Chocolate Mousse, to be among the best she ever tasted. All was served on elegant dishware. If we visit Brattleboro again, we will plan our visit around Vegan A.F.'s limited schedule. Reservations are required because of its limited hours and limited seating. We dined on a weekday evening, yet it had a full house. As it had rained earlier, the outdoor patio was not open for dining, so everyone was confined indoors. Not a problem. Its intimate atmosphere (in other words, its cramped interior) promoted casual but meaningful conversations among other fellow diners, as often happens in small vegan cafés. Kudos to Judy, our energetic server, who singlehandedly held down the fort both skillfully and gracefully. In case you're wondering, as I was, what does the A.F. in their name stand for, its website states obscurely way on the bottom "And Flex," yet there is nothing apologetic or flexitarian about Vegan A.F. Probably more consequential, a cognoscente of NYC informs me its underlying meaning is a far more colorful, indeed here not publishable.

So the sandwich was approx $18 and it was not enough food for one person. It didn't even taste as fresh or good as I remembered from a few years ago. The new owners are super friendly and helpful. First, we selected two of their house made apple cider donuts with sugar. The donuts were divine, soft cake with lots of cinnamon, sugar and apple flavor. I would stop by every day for those donuts if I lived here. We ordered the soup of the day, homemade French Onion The soup was hot with lots of melted cheese and tasty croutons. The soup was a tad too sweet, but good otherwise. My cousin ordered the egg salads sandwich, which is enormous and delicious. The sandwich is served on a long piece of French bread ladened with egg salad. Highly recommend the egg salad. I had the Chopped Italian Grinder, which also came out on a long piece of French Bread. There was a lot of bread for the amount of meat/cheese on the sandwich. The grinder was ok.
