Bay Breeze Guest House - Back dock to boat house and sitting area

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying for two nights at the Bay Breeze bed-and-breakfast…read more It is a remarkable property that has been in Becky's family for years. We stayed upstairs in the Sunset suite. We had a sitting room, a lovely bedroom, with more seating, and a second bedroom with more seating, and a deck. From the deck, we could see the bay and the lovely garden which we could access from our own staircase. Our suite was so comfortable that we did not spend time in the lovely living room and parlor. The house has really beautiful furniture but the overriding feeling is one of welcome and comfort. Becky made a wonderful southern breakfast and Bill, her lovely husband even joined us. We were made to feel so comfortable as if we were a part of the family but we weren't allowed to do any dishes! There are a lot of choices out there for places to stay, but if you are interested in staying in a beautiful, peaceful, one of a kind place, you will not be disappointed with Bay Breeze B&B.

My hubby and I were doing an impromptu road trip to Alabama - and specifically Fairhope after a local Louisiana gentleman suggested the town - and wanted a homey B&B for a treat. We got just that with a welcome note from the owners and a group of visitors watching the NFL games on the pier. We explored the little town, watched an amazing sunset over the bay and then ate dinner locally. The bed was comfy and temperature perfect for a great nights sleep. In the morning I got up and got directions for a little run along the scenic coastal highway 98 and the parks. GORGEOUS. To top it off, homemade breakfast on the pier including yummy biscuits and Bill's famous grits! Feeling blessed -- worth every penny!

We found this place on Trip Advisor as the Best Rated B&B in Alabama for 2013 and were pretty…read moredisappointed in our experience. When we called to book, the owner said the cottages were all booked through May but the Master Bedroom was available and would be $50 less per night that the cottage. The pics online look nice and cozy so we booked it! We booked the room thinking we would have a nice quiet room for our getaway. Not exactly. The Master bedroom was on the main floor, next to the living room and kitchen, where the TV was on constantly and the two ladies who work there were hanging out. The closet and drawers in the dresser of this room had all the clothes of a person who normally resides in there, most likely the owner. Kind of awkward to have mens shoes and PJs and suits/hats/etc... in the room where you are supposedly the guest of honor. Two things that were good: CLEAN beautiful place and good food! Breakfast was very good both days, but another awkward part of our room location was that the doors opening to our room were where breakfast was served, and were just glass covered with slated blinds. The cook mentioned to us that breakfast was to be served outside our door at 9 "so be sure to close your blinds." Wanted to have a quiet morning in bed, interrupted with people outside your door/window...no exactly romantic. The cook was good and we cannot complain about breakfast whatsoever. The food was great! The owner came in and interrupted the table conversation 3 times to talk about how hard it has been to "find good help" and went on about some women stealing money from him and taking items that guests had forgotten, etc.. REALLY? This is not something to go on and on about with your CURRENT GUESTS! Way to make us feel uncomfortable leaving anything of value around! I don't meant to rant and rave, but there were two other major disappointments with this place. We were told when we first booked to bring our swimsuits, as they had a hottub out under the stars next to the bay. Sounded super romantic to sit out there. So we bought some white wine and planned to spend some time out there on our last night. We got to the house around 9 and the owner got up, in his pajamas mind you, and offered us some ice cream. I know he was trying to be nice, but it felt more like our Grandpa was waiting up for us. We told him we were planning to use the hottub and instead of going out to make sure it was ready, he went out and found us a lantern and told us where to find the plug to turn on the lights out there. We got in our swimsuits and robes, toting our wine and glasses and lantern and hurried out in the cold to jump in. When we pulled the cover off and got in, it took a second to realize it was COLD! The temp was 80 degrees, set on "economy mode" and no instructions posted anywhere how to heat it up. We tried and tried and within 30 minutes it was only ONE degree warmer. We were pissed, and COLD. Not a good impression. The next morning he asked how the hot tub was and we told him our experience and instead of apologizing/etc, we was blaming people for "messing with it and not putting it back how they found it." Then he proceeded to tell us that it takes about 5 hours to heat up. The proper way to have handled this was to ask that morning if we wanted to use it, considering he told us to bring swim suits! Anyway, we were disappointed to say the least. During our final breakfast, he asked T (my other half) to come with him to settle the bill before he left for a Doctors appointment. He came back saying he couldn't use his band debit/credit card so I gave him my VISA. Again, he came back and said it wasn't working. I've never had a card rejected, by the way. I gave him my backup Mastercard and, guess what, "it isn't working." Because he was in a hurry, he had T ride with him to the nearest bank to pay the bill, (where they charged a usage fee because it wasn't our bank). We get home and T's online bank statement say's the fee was charged by Point Clear Cottages TWICE and cancelled TWICE. My mastercard says the exact same fee is still pending. If this charge doesn't disappear tomorrow, I'm contacting my bank! I seriously doubt this guy knows how to run the credit card machine. BEWARE! I think staying in the Bayside cottage, which is detached from the main house, would definitely be the only way to go if you want to book here. But honestly, there are over 20 other B&Bs on the same road that I would be willing to try instead, as well as a nice Marriott's Grand Hotel about 1 mile down the road. We would have paid the same amount, and had a functioning pool/considerate staff/etc. Overall, I would not recommend this place.

It was my wife's birthday, and thus she had the privilege to choose where we would go for brunch…read more I had previously decided that I would not dine at this restaurant again, not because I had some gripe about the food, which was excellent, but because their table arrangement in the main dinning area made it difficult for wheelchair bound customers, such as myself, to navigate. This was not a hard and solid decision on my part. Instead I had decided that if I had my druthers, I would not eat there. Of course when it is my babécita's birthday my druthers were of no consideration and I found myself again at Tamara's for a Saturday brunch. We arrived to find the main dinning area to be full, and since we didn't feel like eating in the open to the outside area, we learned that we had an estimated 20-30 minutes wait for a table. Their was six to eight customers waiting around the hostess's stand inside, with another six waiting outside under a covered area. We decided to wait outside, but after about 15 minutes a rain shower began. The kind people waiting on the benches and standing under the awning encouraged us to move in further from the edge where they we were getting wet. A couple standing moved into the restaurant to make even more room for us. The hostess, seeing that it was raining outside when this couple opened the door, came to the door and invited us all in, announcing that she would make room for us all. Which she promptly did. My wife had informed the hostess of my needs, and had requested a corner table for ease of access, but once inside the restaurant, I noticed that the table arrangement seemed less crowded, which helped to ease my concerns about getting to a table. As it happened, right at the 20 minute mark, we were informed that our table was ready, and we were led to a table, not on a corner, but to a table at the end of a row of tables, and against a partition. I found this arrangement even better than our requested corner table, as it meant that I had no foot traffic behind me that I might inadvertently bump into, or bump into me. I was grateful for the evidently experienced hostess working out such a fine alternative to our request, and doing it in such a timely manner. Now I get to the food, and wait staff service. All I can say is that Tamara's management has both pegged to the highest degree. Our waiter appeared immediately, took our orders since we had perused the menu while we were waiting to be seated. As for our food, my birthday girl had the Spinach Eggs Benedict, and I had the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Both were excellent. Neither of us had a single complaint, and my wife, who is fascinated with Tamara's long list of various types of Eggs Benedicts, promised that we will be back for many more visits to try each one. I am grateful that I was forced to forego my pledge not to patronize this establishment again, as it provided an opportunity to learn how the good people at Tamara's made adjustments that allowed my experience to be enjoyed more fully. I am also grateful in that we can continue to enjoy their excellent food.

We dined at Tamara's Downtown on April 12, 2026, around 5:10 PM, and overall I'd describe the…read moreexperience as good, not great. First off, the ambiance is very nice--comfortable, welcoming, and a great setting for a casual evening out. The service was also very good. Our server was attentive and friendly, which definitely made a positive impression. As for the food: * Raw oysters ($22): Fresh, plump, and overall very good quality. That said, it almost felt like each oyster had a bit of added salt, which threw me off a little. Not bad, just slightly off from what I'd expect. * Sushi-grade ahi tuna appetizer ($14): This was one of the highlights--very good flavor and nicely prepared. * Gumbo (large - $12): Probably the biggest disappointment. I'd rate it about a 5/10. It wasn't terrible, but it lacked depth and richness compared to what you'd expect in this region. * Happy hour mimosa ($3) and margarita ($6): Solid for the price--no complaints there. Total came out to about $62 cash ($64.30 with card fee), which feels reasonable for what we ordered. Overall, this is a place I'd come back to if I were already in the area and someone suggested it, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for. If I did return, it would likely be for the oysters or the ahi tuna. Good experience, just not quite memorable enough to push it past three stars.
