The house is stunning and set in beautiful grounds (and there's a croquet set which one can borrow). My husband and I stayed in a standard double room (201) on the second floor for a friend's wedding and it was certainly a lovely venue for a celebration. Our room was on a corner so we had two windows and two views (of the grounds and the church, now closed) which was lovely. It was thoroughly comfortable (including the bed which was smaller and softer than I'd have liked but we slept well) and had wifi, plenty of hanging space, a safe (which seemed a bit unnecessary), a kettle etc. The decor was mixed - beautiful curtains, hideous bedstead and table. The bathroom was nice, clean, modern, and with plenty of space to store washbags etc. and lots of hot water, but without a window (and therefore slightly claustrophobic) and the bath took forever to fill up. The door to our room had a two inch gap underneath it so the noise from the corridor was considerable. Luckily we were so tired that we slept through the noise, but I could imagine this being quite annoying. Also, much as I like the smell of bacon and coffee in the morning, I don't really expect to have it wafting up to a second floor bedroom. The food was pleasant, with a good spread at breakfast, but not exceptional. The staff were friendly. All in all we were delighted to be staying on site for the wedding, and we had an absolutely lovely time, but there is definitely more the hotel management could do to make this really top notch. read more
