Such a nice hotel with 3 restaurants with great food and large individual rooms. Although there doesn't seem to be much else in the area, you do get a cool view of the small planes landing. The beds are very comfy and there are extra amenities like welcome cookies in the room, a robe, slippers, and even a heated towel rack. I have to say as far as European hotels go, this is so far the most comfortable I have stayed at! And of course the theme of the place is cool with the aviator theme, moving cloud images in the elevators and circle landing areas. read more

I work only a few minutes from this place and everyone's been talking about it. - That, and armed with Ira B's review... it had to be tried! We were only offered a limited set menu of 3 cources for £21. Add another £4 if you decide on the steak for main. So in total with beers and wine it only came to under £70 which is kinda reasonable. Presentation and ingredients both very impressive, service professional and excellent. Strongly recommended if you're after something special. Get there early and have a drink at the bar. read more

I am a very lucky girl! My lovely friends took me to the Brasserie for a birthday treat last Friday night. I wasn't expecting much - after all, it's a hotel in the middle of Farnborough... but it was built for wealthy people who come to enjoy the air show and so was done to the highest standard. The style is kind of 50s meets space age meets neon and white. That may not sound inviting, but it is visually stunning. A huge white, circular staircase lit up with coloured lights dominates the lobby, and looking up towards the top is both breathtaking and slightly vertigo inducing! We were early on purpose and went upstairs to the Sky Bar to get a cocktail first. The list isn't extensive, but you get the feeling that you could ask for a green-eyed cobra bomb, and they would calmly go and make it for you. (I made that name up, but I'm sure something delicious would still appear!) I had the Silver Jet - even the name sounded 50s glamorous! It was lovely, and they tweaked it for me without a murmur (easy on the vanilla). We almost lost track of time, the bar was that much fun, but we eventually tore ourselves away to go back downstairs to the Brasserie. Well, that was a meal to remember! We started off with some gorgeous red wine - a 2009 Bordeaux 80% Merlot blend - Saint - Emilion 2009, Chateau Dupray, Bordeaux France. (Did that sound convincing?! Luckily one of my friends really does know what he's talking about with wine, and we let him pick a stunning bottle). For the starter I went for the goats cheese with pickled vegetables and marmite dressing, and both my friends opted for the venison cottage pie. It's really hard to decide which was better - the goats cheese was fascinating, the flavours worked really well together and I cannot pass up marmite if offered to me! The venison cottage pie was warming, really delicious and a very generous portion. Both were worth of the 'yummy' noises we all made while eating them! For mains, I ordered the chicken, mainly because it came with broad beans, and I love them. The other mains we had were the rib eye steak and the sea bass. Everything was exquisite - my chicken was just about the moistest (is that a word?) and flavourful chicken I have ever eaten. It was just done, juicy and oozing flavour. Feeling extremely naughty (and waiting a good half an hour!) we moved on to dessert. I cannot remember what my friends had - I was too engrossed in my my poached rhubarb! It was a work of art (see photo). The rhubarb was perfect, there was a melt in the mouth rhubarb sorbet, and what seemed to be a deconstructed cheesecake. There were little bits of obviously home made honeycomb scattered on the plate that were such a good accompaniment. We rolled out of the restaurant, happy, full and pretty sozzled. Upon entering the Aviator Hotel, there is a "stairway to heaven", a backlit cloud-like exaggeration of airstairs. A bit of imagination and you could be boarding a private luxury jet, until you reach the reception desk. Everything is upholstered in rich jewel tones, and the portholes and leather in the elevator were "aviation-chic." The staff is as friendly, responsive and starched as cabin crew, and the bar is lively with suited people in transit. Yet, the food was the quality of in-air meals served on an average Cross-Atlantic Boeing 747 flight. I started having problems when I went in search of my room. The hotel has galley type wooden fire doors placed at quite close intervals. Push through one swinging door and you encounter another and again and again until I was unsure if I wasn't caught up in a dream sequence from Inception. I remember making a mental note to take it easy at the bar in the evening. Once I finally found my room, I encountered the phantom shower head. There were two knobs in the shower, and I turned the wrong knob. Out of the ceiling poured torrential rain directly on top of my head - cold rain, very cold. I was only saved by my feline ninja reflexes. My colleagues, who were also staying at the hotel, reported similar mishaps with their showers. Having conquered the shower, I was pleased with the rest of the accommodations. I hadn't been placed in economy class. I had a window with a view out onto a small, local air field - thus the name and theme of the hotel. The bed was big (I'm sure the thread count was high) and the pillows were firm and hotel stiff, which I particularly like. I had a small sofa built into the wall under the window and large mirrors. For dinner that night, we (my colleagues and I) were hosted, served and entertained by hotel staff. I'm going to say first that I was really excited about this dinner. The menu had been written with an explicative Frenchy style, which automatically induced me to imagine artistic, exquisite food. Things like Black Sea Bass served with red wine au jus and cyfron purée on a bed of foie gra pate a la sauvignon buree petite and so on. I vaguely understood that I would be served a soup, fish and a selection of cheese. Now, my expectations were high, so when I got the food, which I'm sure was prepared with the best intentions, I was so disappointed. The service was excellent, but the food was sad. Sad like ravioli microwaved in a card board box on an airplane. The soup was tasteless, and my wrist got tired from shaking copious amounts of salt and pepper into that Butternut Squash Puree ala Britainique. The Blackened Sea Bass with Cyfron Puree (I don't know what this was - it was like a potato but it wasn't a potato and it had some name like "cyfron") Au Jus Red Wine was subtle and savory but very lonely on the plate. The fish's skin was crunchy and the meat delicate, but it swam in death as it did in life, except in death it swam in a pool of vinegary sauce. The cheese was fine, but nothing to write home about. There was nothing French about the cheese. I was hungry before, during and after. Breakfast the next morning was a bit better, but again rather bland. Typical British fare - beans, floppy bacon, eggs and HP sauce. Perhaps British cuisine is underwhelming in general. I didn't have much of a chance to find out as I supplemented the hotel meals with sandwiches from Sainsbury's for the whole trip. Near the end of our business dinner, two of the waitress staged a fight. One of them was screaming at the other that she had "stolen her man." It wasn't clear if they were actually fighting or not and everyone got very quiet. I suspected something was up because it was highly theatrical. In the end it was a part of a rather cheesy performance where the waitresses sang and danced to three or four songs. I suppose it was somewhat novel and amusing, and I commend the energy, enthusiasm and vocal styling of the two girls, but two songs would have sufficed. Of course they tried to make us dance. I got out of it by talking to the "DJ" who was just a kid playing music from a pre-set iTunes list with old, old kitschy songs. After dinner, a quick visit to the bar was in order. The hotel bar seemed to be the only real place in the vicinity of the hotel itself to take leisure. It was set up like a lounge and was staffed by boys in suspenders and slicked back hair, which gave it a sort of 1920's lounge finesse. It took forever to get drinks. I had one and went to bed as I was quite satisfied with the wine service during the dinner anyway. So besides the phantom shower, the airplane quality food and the strange dinner entertainment, the aviation themed Aviator hotel was a rather pleasant place to layover if you ever have to stay in this small town outside of London. read more

The Aviator is a gorgeous modern hotel. I live right over the road from it and to be honest when we heard there was a hotel to be built we were nervous. How wrong were we?!? It looks stunning - from above it is the shape of an aircraft propellor. To fill in, it is built on the site of Farnborough Airfield... It is never too noisy (well apart from their amazing firework display!) There is a function room on the 2nd floor with a bar that you can hire. You pay a package for food and then you get the room for free. (the price per head is expensive, but then it is a 5* hotel) On the next floor down is the Sky Bar which is open to non-residents (where we often pop over for a drink :)) which again is a bit more for a drink than a pub - £5 for a Magners, £4 for a beer. The waiters and bar staff are lovely. Aaron the barman makes cocktails to die for :) although at £9 a go you need to savour them! On the ground floor is the bistro restaurant which has another bar. The food is amazing and sunday lunch set us back £80 for 2 adults and 2 children, including a bottle of wine and 2 courses. Finally is the deli as you go in the the building. It is open until 2pm and serves amazing coffee, paninis, cakes, breakfast items and soup. Very reasonably priced. I really love this place. It is worth a visit just to see the fab design of the place. When you go in you have a huge circular centre to the building where you can look up to the top floor. The stair go up through the middle. Fresh flowers are everywhere. I only wish I could afford a room for a night! read more

Upon first glance, the hotel would seem to be cold and small, and once you enter, the spacious and glamorous entryway lends itself to the small but luxurious experience this hotel offers. The staff is attentive, welcoming, and well trained to suit travelers and rooms are large, well laid out, and they offer premium free wi-fi which is great for the business traveler. Considering there isn't ANYTHING to do in the area, the bar in the hotel lends itself to a quick late night getaway, and I would highly recommend to someone visiting the area, or does not want to stay in the London area. read more

Went for a small company function in a private room on the top floor of the hotel a week or two ago. I was really pleased with the very smart decor, attentive staff and great food. The room had a quite dramatic view out over the airfield, (which made a great backdrop) and proved to be an excellent setting for the evening. A little pricey but you get what you pay for and this place has quality. Very modern and very edgy! Worth a visit. read more

We came here on May 5 on the strength of a review in Food & Drink Hampshire 2010. The building is architecturally sleek and the decor inside is breathtaking. There is an upstairs bar with great views over the airfield but the real suprise was the brasserie. The food was simply amazing. We has dill-marinated salmon and the bocconcini of mozzarella with beetroot, pinenuts and balsamic followed by the best fillet steak either of us can remember. Each steak was about 4" in diameter and about 3 " thick - soft, buttery and seared on the outside. The potatoes dauphinoise was just heaven and it came with a rich sauce bordelaise. Despite being satisfied, we couldn't resist dessert and the panna cotta with poached strawberries and chocolate nemesis were a great finish to an fabulous meal. Fine dining but in a casual and intimate atmosphere. A surprising venue, exceptional service and an exquisite meal. For 3 courses, aperitifs and wine plus coffee for 2 it came to £113. I was a bit skeptical when my colleague booked us in this hotel, the name sort of worried me a bit - I had visions of an old dilapidated building with bathrooms down the hall. However, what I found was an ultra modern building located just at the end of the runway off of Farnborough airport. The staff was extremely friendly and professional and the decor while somewhat eclectic was very modern and overall very appealing. The rooms were very spacious probably the largest I have seen in the UK, the bad a was large and comfortable. The bathrooms were very modern and spacious and feature a large shower instead of a tub, which may be an issue for some. The breakfast buffet was excellent and featured all the usual items, croissants, cereals, eggs, bacon, juices etc. The only back draw is that it is a bit of a walk to the village, so having a car would definitely help. If coming for the airshow you could get some good shots if your room was facing the runway. read more

I've only ever been to this place for cocktails, but they were definitely worth the money! It is fairly expensive, I would avoid going there during the Airshow as it is absolutely booked up during those two weeks. However, the cocktails were delicious, the food looks incredible - can't wait to go again and have the chance to taste some! The hotel itself is impressive, on the outskirts of Farnborough it is a hidden gem. This hotel is extremely trendy & stylish. Low lighting, bose speakers throughout, blue lighting in ceilings. Automated sensor lighting in hallways. Great welcome when you enter the hotel, and the rooms, at least the deluxe on the 4th floor, are very well worth a stay here. However my only issue was with some of the service received, mainly at breakfast & dinner in the restaurant. It seemed like the staff weren't interested really in paying attention to the customers and was usually waiting quite some time to get anyone's notice. Having said that, when the food did arrive, it was excellent. The bar in the evening had 2 excellent waitresses, the others need a little more personality training. The "barmen" were unable to replace an empty keg of beer, which is what you learn on your first day on the job as a barman. All in all, I will probably be back when over for work, but it just needs a little more thought and staff training. LOVED my room though! There is no gym though. read more

This is a new modern 5 Star Hotel. Very nice interior design. It has 2 nice bars (one for hotel residents) with views of the airport runway. There's a restaurant and a cafe. Just google the hotel it is top class. From the moment you pull up to it it exudes quality. The staff, the food, the wine and finally the rooms are all excellent. Yes it is expensive and I'm sure when the air show is on it doubles in price but save up and give it a go, you will not regret it. I'm 50% of the way there to my 2nd stay!! read more
