The staff are always friendly, they serve a good pint of Pride and they sell Pork Scratchings made at the local butchers. So many pubs these days have given up on the fatty pub classic, let alone go to the trouble of sourcing locally made scratchings. The jukebox is nearly as old as the pub and requires local knowledge to operate (the blank buttons at the bottom of the keypad rotate the "music sticks"). There's a tip-top pub quiz every Wednesday - but if team eXtreme are playing (our team) - might as well save your entry fee. Know what I mean sunshine.

The Hexagon's shape isn't the important issue here though, what's important is whether it was a good venue for Alexa G and I to learn about science and fawn over Brian Cox and Ben Goldacre. And the answer is YES. This theatre might have been tricky to find in the first instance, but it's handily located for Reading Central train station and a good few local amenities. The bar is expensive as hell, but aren't they all in theatres? Meanwhile the venue lends itself very well to performances of all kinds. The great thing about the Hexagon is that even if you're in the nosebleeds like we were, you're still not actually far away from the stage. It's small enough to be intimate yet large enough to hold a decent amount of revellers. While it seems a little dated in places, overall it harbours a pleasant atmosphere... and the bathrooms are pretty well maintained, which is always nice when you're spending your hard-earned on entertainment. Overall, I'd be more than happy to attend another show at the Reading Hexagon. Four enthusiastic stars to it!

I was surprised how small this theatre was when we recently visited to see Derek Acorah. Saying…read morethat its not a bad thing because it made the performance more intimate. I didn't think it was lit up very well from the outside - we parked in a multi storey right next to (more luck than judgement!) but had to ask directions. It is a lovely theatre once you are inside with seating and food and a bar to enjoy while you wait. The doors are clearly signposted and the staff seemed very helpful and friendly. There was a good atmosphere in the theatre.

A word of warning, at least try and dress respectably especially on a Saturday night because your asking to be turned away in trainers and ripped jeans and also don't bring an attitude with you either, because they are now being more picky than they used to.

However I have been to Q Club for the past few weekends now on Saturday nights and the crowd has definitely improved. Well dressed guys and girls of mixed ages now 18-25 all there to have a good time. No fights or trouble has been witnessed by myself. The DJ's are very in tune with the crowd and the main room has been playing fantastic sets of all the latest stuff mixed up with some great dance anthems. I would recommend this club to anyone on a night out now and will most definitely be enquiring about their VIP Packages for my birthday later this year.
