While it's an older property, the lobby looks recently renovated and surprisingly modern. Room was clean and bath/bed would as you expect from a 3* property. The complex has a nice indoor pool and sauna which I did not expect to find in Winchester. Free fast wifi was a great perk. Overall this was good value and should be on your short list for a clean safe and recently renovated hotel.

Had a bit of everything first morning, felt a bit horrible. Next day had toast beans and hash browns only, the best bits. Also a small continental type breakfast (meats and cheeses) which were nice. But just one type of egg and poorly done wasn't what I expected from a four star. Food has to follow in the upgrade! Ooh almost forgot, did have a room service burger, that was very very nice.

The restaurant was very good, with lovely patio seating. We used the hotel as a jumping off poing for two days stay in Winchester after a two-week Baltic cruise. The only problem we had was that we asked for a taxi to be booked for a 5am departure to the train station, to get to an airport bus to take a flight to New York. The booking was not made and the morning manager had to scramble to try and get a cab to come. We caught our train with only one minute to spare. It was very stressful. We had numerous issues with the taxi drivers in the town actually, and sadly, would not return to Winchester because of this issue within the town itself.

We had arrived very late at night after driving for 5 hours nonstop and we found off street parking as we knew we would be leaving early in the morning for the ferry. The staff was very friendly and directed us to our room with helpful information about what restaurants close by that was still open that they could recommend . The standard double room has a queen size bed , a flat screen tv with a ensuite bathroom. The bathroom has a bath with a monsoon shower head inside. It is very high end price for a standard room but location was key for us! I would stay here again if travelling to Poole ferry port.

This is not just a business for John, this is something he enjoys doing, and that really shows. As someone coming to Winchester alone for the first time, not knowing anyone, his charming, chatty and knowledgeable nature was a huge bonus. I would DEFINITELY stay here again but I reiterate, this is a homey lived-in B&B, not a pristine but nondescript room. There are two cats, who are very friendly and have free roam, and a shared bathroom, which surprisingly was absolutely no problem in practice. This might just be the most amazing wee city in all the United Kingdom. It's beyond good. Let me start by saying that such a phenomenal place is no doubt, home to an incredible hotel. I came here to see one of my English mates marry his college sweetheart. Think of The Peaky Blinders in this anachronistic setting. Their wedding was a folkloral dream. The room was comfortable, clean, and luxurious. I enjoyed the British tele. Special marks for the location and easy access to a local farmer's market on the high street. If you decide to visit London, jump on a train and experience the country and Winchester. Experience this royal hotel!

I had my wedding reception in Penny Square Barn. What an amazing venue this was for a wedding…read morereception. The barn is owned by the fabulous farmer Bruno and Gill, such wonderful people! I stayed with Bruno and Gill for B&B and one of my fondest memories is having a bottle of vino and a gas with Gill in the kitchen. Honestly Batcombe is just a fantastic place with some amazing friendly, interesting people. Bruno had just put in toilets when we got married here which was fantastic and the barn had not been used all winter so we had a lot of cleaning up to do. Its no frills but it makes it for economic sense as a wedding venue if you have the vision and want to get married in a glorious location. The main barn itself is gorgeously rustic, just put some dichroic floods as a backdrop and it becomes wonderfully atmospheric. We had a friend climb around like a monkey and do an amazing job on lighting and hung long swathes of black fabric over the not so pretty metal door entrance to the barn. In the smaller barn annex we also hung fabric to disguise the galvanised roof. We were able to have a fire going outside and allowed to have fireworks (before 10pm of course) and a flamethrowing fire engine. The villagers were just fantastic and welcoming and Bruno was an absolute star! Not only was he a bell-ringer, but he ran the bar at the village hall and made sure we had enough fuel to run the genny for the weekend. Barn does get cold at night so its worth renting a couple of space heaters. We got a TENS from Mendip council and ran our own bar which was fab. This is a beautiful quiet village so its not the spot to pound music late into the night as noise does carry but its a perfect venue for an event such as a wedding in the summer.
