The new village hall isn't as picturesque as the old school hall, however it has Seating for up to 150, licensed bar facilities and a fully equipped modern kitchen. We were able to borrow chairs and tables (we went for regular long tables) but it would look more lovely with the round tables if you have the room for them and budget to hire them. The views out of the large windows are lovely. We didn't do anything major in terms of decoration for the village hall. We had nice white tableclothes and the most incredibly elegant flower arrangements from Suzy Davis and Sarah Burgess. This alone was enough to transform the village hall into an elegant space. It also has a fully integrated sound and light system so we were able to play a pre-recorded playlist of relaxing classical and ambient music while we setting up. The cost of hiring the hall is remarkably cheap, do bear in mind that you will need to have help setting up the tables and chairs however. Also, I nearly freaked out as the day before when we were setting up, a farmer started spreading pig slurry in the field next to the church which was making everyone gag! Luckily the wind blew and the smell of pig slurry had disappeared in time for the big day!

After reading other reviews it seems pipe problems is fairly regular and so I have to believe mold is an issue. And then we woke up to yellow water dripping down the bathroom ceiling. There was no fitted sheet on the bed, when I called down to inquire they said they don't use fitted sheets but a bed sheet is used and tucked in around the mattress BUT the sheet wasn't big enough to actually be tucked in. The pillows and bedding was poor quality. To top it all off we had loud drunk people yelling outside our window for hours. The windows did nothing to keep the noise out.

I have no idea whether our experience was typical for this "establishment," which I'm not sure about, but my impression is that it's called Culley's Kitchen and Bar and that it's situated within the Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff. I described my soup, entree and dessert below the appended photos. Suffice it to say, beyond that, while the soup wasn't bad, the entree and dessert were great. The room reminded me of a gym with tables and chandeliers and the performing "stage" was just a space beyond the tables. Our evening was dinner theater tailored for tourists and they all did a fine job.

Old Down Country Park reopened this year and is a brilliant place to amuse your kids for the day…read more Loads of animals to entertain the kids and plenty of gardens for your kids to run off steam. Tickets prices are affordable for a family (I think we paid £12.50 for the 4 of us) and the staff were very smiley too. Worth a look if you are struggling for new places to visit. The cafe area can also be hired for childrens parties or evening functions. There is also a farm shop in the park selling organic veg, free range eggs from the farm, local meat, cheeses, chutneys, jams and toys and gifts. There is no charge to just use the cafe or farm shop.

At 5:20 pm they were not even open yet but they invited us in out of the rain and welcomed us to sit at the bar while they continued to set up the dining room. After ten minutes or so the hostess seated us at a very nice table. The ambience is upscale with linens and well dressed polite staff. That would count for little of course if the food did not match the setting. It did not disappoint. We had lamb korma, chicken jalfrezi, rogan josh, mushroom rice and of course naan. The portions are generous and we intentionally order enough to take some home with us. It was that good. The price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. Overall it was a delightful experience and we will head straight there next time we are in Southampton.

SHOCKING ATTITUDE!…read more My daughter was due to get married at Upton Barn this year and, due to Covid, they had to postpone. As upsetting as this was, the conduct and attitude of Upton Barn made the whole situation so much worse. They would not provide a 'like for like' alternative date, stating that Saturday slots would not be given to existing customers as they were being saved for 'new customers'. My daughter felt she had no choice but to go with a mid-week day but was then told that she would still have to pay the premium weekend rate (over £3,000 more) and pay all remaining charges straight away, some 12 months before the revised wedding date. There was no empathy, or consideration, for what my daughter and her fiancé were going through and it seemed the whole process was about how much money Upton Barn could secure from this pandemic. They say people show their true colours in tough times and Upton Barn certainly did. I would never have believed that a company selling the perfect wedding day fantasy, could be so lacking in compassion, understanding and reason in what has been a very difficult year for everyone. Needless to say, my daughter decided not to stay with Upton Barn and found an amazing wedding venue who have gone out of their way to help accommodate her and achieve the wedding that she has always dreamed of... thank you Quantock Lakes Wedding Venue for changing a terrible experience into one of excitement and joy.
