We were in the north Long Beach area and this place was recommended by a friend. I was a bit hesitant as I'm not a fan of sports bars but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was much more than that. We were quickly seated and told to scan a QR code for access to the menu. Sadly, cell phone reception was spotty and it took a few minutes to get the menu to open on our phones. During that time, our server came and introduced himself. He was quite genial and very knowledgable about the menu. We ended up ordering the lamb curry, one of their signature dishes since they focus on North African cuisine, as well as a couple of beers. We also opted for the vegetable samosas as a starter. The samosas were delicious with just the right amount of spice. They were identical to what you'd get in an Indian restaurant. I was a little disappointed that they served it with sweet chili sauce which is common in Asian restaurants but not at all North African or Indian. I would have preferred a tamarind or cilantro based sauce which is more typical. The lamb curry came next and was absolutely delicious! It was served over a bed of turmeric rice with a crisp papadum and some little cups of condiments to use as you wish. The condiments included shredded coconut, a salsa similar to pico de gallo, and a killer chutney. That chutney would have been a better match for the samosas. The lamb pieces were tender and the curry was nicely balanced. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and would be happy to return if we are ever in the area again. I dinged them one star for using a QR code in an area with bad cell reception, which the server acknowledged and apologized for, and for serving a non traditional dip for the samosas. read more

Had a late lunch with my little sister and it was great. In times past, parking was an issue but not this time and I think it was due to arriving before 2pm. We were seated immediately, and the server was great. I had Fried Shrimp, and my Sis had Lamb Shanks and a salad. Aside from being the best ribeye steak in Long Beach, all of the food at the Eldo is great. I love the surf and turf with three tiger giant shrimp, the seasoning on the shrimp is amazing. The service is also second to none. We have had Aidan several times as a server, he is very attentive and has given us some great recommendations. I never would have tried their pork chop if Aidan hadn't recommended it highly. Great selection of beers on tap too, very good selection of local IPAs and Hazy IPAs. The patio area is always our favorite place to sit. it is a great atmosphere. I miss the old performance stage that the Eldo used to host bands on, but it does keep it a bit quieter for better dinner conversations. The pretzel is a great appetizer as well, and if you have ever tried Gordon Ramsey's Wellington, the Eldo's gives it some serious competition, especially at less than half the price. The butter cake is also a great way to finish off any meal there. I just wish not as many people had discovered this neighborhood gem as it keeps getting harder and harder to get a table there! read more

Went in Saturday night at 4:20 pm for a party of four. Stood in front receptionist for 10 minutes while she was on the phone. When she finally got off the phone we were told that she could not seat us in the restaurant because they were expecting many reservations to show up. We had five more parties behind us by that time. The restaurant was empty except two parties. We ended up at the bar. No issues with food or server, but when we left the restaurant it was less than half full. Don't understand stand it all. Ordered the fried zucchini, ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and veggies, strawberry milkshake and milk tart. Fried zucchini - You get about 1 zucchini cut in 6 slices, which is lightly battered, but I prefer the crunchy batter. The ranch is a bit on the watery side for me. The ribeye steak was the star for me - perfectly cooked medium rare and melted in my mouth! It was seasoned appropriately and was delicious! The mashed potatoes were standard and steamed vegetables were a bit bland. For dessert, we ordered a strawberry milkshake, which was yummy! It tasted fresh and wasn't sweet. The milk tart was not sweet nor was it tart; it had hints of cinnamon, which I enjoyed. Wide variety of beers and other alcoholic beverages! Ample parking and bicycle stand. Had such a fantastic time at Eldo. We sat on the bar area. It was quiet at first and when more customers came in it was super loud, no biggie. As soon as we sat down, a young gentleman wipe the table (it was clean yet it was very nice for him to do that) and he let us know our waiter would be Emily. I had a michelada (it wasn't mexican style, was more like the pepper style I had in Belize), my friend had a whiskey drink and the other hot water with lemon. For food, one had the cod salad with steak, the other the steak salad and I had the french onion soup. For dessert we share a warm butter cake with ice cream and cream and a lemon drop martini. The service was flawless and everyone was working so well together to make sure we had an amazing time!!! Highly appreciate and recommended. My wife and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary at the Eldo. Our server was Natalie, and she was friendly and attentive, stopping by our table to check on things frequently. We never had to wait for long for anything. Of course, the food was the highlight of our visit, and it did not disappoint. We were in the mood for lamb--my wife got the lamb shank, and I got the Durban lamb curry. We sampled each other's entree, and they were both amazing. The meat was tender and full of flavor, and the papadam that served as a garnish tasted great with the sweet chutney. I also ordered the milk tart, a traditional South African dessert. My wife got the caramel ice cream. They were both amazing, and we could have easily shared one dessert. We ended up taking half of the milk tart home because the ice cream would not have survived the hot ride home. The patio area was pleasant and shaded, especially with a nice breeze in the early evening. Went to this delightful gem of Long Beach last night for some delicious food and drinks. I had my favorite alcoholic beverage of choice which is an old fashion and it was made to perfection. I ordered the Beef Wellington and unfortunately had some cooking issues with it. It came out raw and the picture I provided was it returned still a little under cooked. The beef Wellington is one of my favorite dishes, but I know it is also hard to make. The manager apologized and provided a replacement meal. I chose the fish and chips which was amazing and finished the night with the best tasting butter cake I have ever had. The service on the night was awesome. The atmosphere was great. After passing thid place a few times and seeing a packed parking lot, decided to try it out (of course after reading some great Yelp reviews!). Exceptional beer menu (updated online).with about 30 beers on tap! We all ordered different beers and very pleased! The server was very knowledgeable and made recommendations for the beers. I was a bit concerned it would get noisy as it has a large bar and tv sets but it wasn't. I did request to see in the back just in case. They do have an enclosed and an outdoor patio. The enclosed appeared to be loaded with family, likely a private party. In addition, that large bar is fully stocked with some high end liquor! Food was very good. I had the fish and chips (full order) with side Greek Salad. I read many reviews and had to try. Enjoyed the fish, crispy and great fries. Very generous serving and of course leftovers! Husband ordered South African Sausage and side House Salad. The Sausage is a special recipe of the owner. Excellent! My son ordered the beef dip, also recommended in reviews and left with half to take home. Definitely a hit. Side salads were huge. Definitely recommend ordering and reasonable prices to add on to your entree or sandwich. They are known for their rib eye steaks. Next visit. Prices are reasonable for portions and quality. Going out to eat in general is expensive now a days, especially when you include alcohol. Beer prices are very reasonable! Excellent service. Food came out quickly and our server regularly checked on us. Parking was easy. Large lot and when it fills up plenty of street parking in the neighborhoods on each side. It started off all bad. I know we didn't have a reservation, but when we walked in, there were at least 10 empty tables. Still, we were told by the person at the front counter--who had a crazy bad attitude--that it would be a two-hour wait. That made no sense, and her energy was just off-putting from the jump. I told her, "No thank you," and went to use the restroom. Here's where it gets strange: the guy in the bathroom (yeah, really) told me to just make a reservation. So I did--right there on my phone--and what do you know? We were seated within 5 minutes. Now, I've had several different dinners from this place before, and they've all been good. That's what made this whole thing even more disappointing. This time, I ordered the pork chop. Big mistake. It was way overcooked, dry, and came with some kind of off mashed whatever that didn't taste good at all. The vegetables? No seasoning whatsoever. Meanwhile, my wife's plate actually had seasoning, so... consistency issues much? For the price this place charges, I expected way better across the board--food, service, attitude. Once the popular El Dorado Steakhouse of Long Beach since the 1950's, this restaurant transformed in 2015 with new owners as the Eldo Gastropub. It retained a lot of the steakhouse interior ambience, but it is also a favorite local neighborhood hangout and sports bar with an American and South African menu. The menu is typical American fare with some South African specialties. The portion sizes served are very generous. Their side salads are almost as large has a typical entree lunch salad. I ordered the shepherds pie and at first, it didn't look like a large portion, but it is deceivingly very filling and quite satisfying. The double stuffed pork chop looked like a "Flintstone's brontosauris"!! The shrimp served on their baja shrimp tostada were plump and large. You won't be disappointed with almost any item on their menu as they are all well prepared and very good. Service was equally impressive as the food. We were catered to with all our whimsical requests with a smile. Menu pricing is reasonable. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available. First time here, lots of reviews saying the food is great! Sports Bar, Booths and Outside covered patio. Upon entering the restaurant it's very dark with lots of noise around the bar area. We asked to sit on the patio hoping it would be a little quieter and more lighting lol We were told they were expecting a lot of people and there was no room? There seemed to be plenty of space but OK! Hostess sat us in a booth next to a draught coming inside an open door. We moved over one booth which was better. You scan a code to get the Menu, which is extensive.... So many choices .... Hawaiian Burger and Mutton Curried Pie with Roasted Potatoes is what we selected. We did have to wait long considering the place was busy!
