Cozy, dark, sultry, classy, relaxed luxury, great for a date or a boys night out, dark wood, leather, and brass are all words I'd use to describe the ambiance. Such a cool little place. The service was warm and impeccable. The staff were welcoming without being overbearing- there when you needed them, accommodating and precise. The drinks were awesome. The bourbon flight yielded some classics and surprises and the associated bar bites were just the right touch. Didn't order the larger plates but they looked good Just a heads-up, it's a little bit hard to find when you get into the lobby, but the search yields a pit of gold at the end. This seems like a really nice place, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service made the experience disappointing. I ordered a tasting, and it took over 30 minutes to arrive. It had already turned midnight, and we had the birthday boy sitting there waiting while it seemed like our server had forgotten about us. We eventually asked for the check while we were still waiting. What made it more frustrating was seeing a group of six who arrived after us receive their drinks before we did. We spent a good portion of our time just sitting and waiting, and this was supposed to be one of the highlights of our night, so that was disappointing. The Professor has mitcher's rye, griffard mure, maraschino, lemon, herbsaint. It sounded like a twist on a manhattan which is one of my fav cocktails. i did find this a little light and sweeter than I prefer. But otherwise a fine drink. Fine for an after dinner beverage. The Eighth Rule is a very cute and cozy bar with a moody, intimate atmosphere--just know it's very dark inside. The drinks were excellent, and the bites are definitely worth ordering. We tried the truffle Parmesan fries (my favorite!), Stephen's Chicken Tendies, and the Duck Fat Fry Trio. Everything paired perfectly with our drinks. I only stopped by for cocktails and appetizers before my dinner reservation, but I'm glad I got to check this place out. Walked in and immediately knew this was a whole ass vibe. Steph Curry, you did good! Dim lighting, masculine energy, sultry and swanky, I loved every bit of it. Our server, Amelia, was the best! I booked this for my wife's birthday. The staff and service were amazing. The modern Speak Easy ambiance was pretty damn great. The food and drinks were killer. My only qualm was that my swordfish was fishy. "WTH ITS FISH!" Is probably what you're yelling into your phone right now, BUT, swordfish is not a fishy, fish. It's sweet and lean. So, my guess is, it wasn't the freshest but the flavor profile if you get past the fish taste, it was seasoned perfectly. It was a bit too dim for us mid-fourties' folks, but it did set a beautiful tone. So no judgement here . Louis our server, the manager and the hosts were all very present, sweet and had the best personalities ever. Tucked away in the Westin St Francis hotel, you honestly wouldn't know where it is until staff tells you. It's very non assuming and to be honest oddly placed. Seemed like it was an old conference room in the hotel that they remodeled into this bar. Nevertheless, the actual bar itself was cute. The service was nice and the drinks were good. I went with the Mosaic bc I'm a mezcal girl and it was delicious. Most of the drinks seemed on the sweet side which I like but may not be everyone's jam. Hoping to see Curry...but didn't. Amazing time! Very cool speakeasy vibe. The cocktails and service are on point and a great place for a shared dining experience before a night out! We started with the trio of duck fat fries- OMG! Plain, garlic, and BBQ. I have to say plain was my fav cause you could really taste the duck fat! Perfection. The chicken nuggies were crunchy, meaty, and dusted in spice. If you're looking for a fun night out, the Eighth Rule is definitely worth a visit! The vibe is super chill with dim lighting, perfect for a speakeasy feel. We started with the Duck Fat Fry Trio--plain fries were the standout for me. The highlight, though, was Stephen's Chicken Tendies. Huge pieces of chicken that are crunchy on the outside and juicy inside--yum! For our group of six, we didn't go overboard and followed Rule #3 with a Trio of Sashimi (great fish portions) and the Truffle Agnolotti and Braised Wagyu Short Rib served with horseradish whipped potatoes and topped with an onion ring. Love a great bourbon! Tried the Steph Curry Gentleman's Cut old fashioned and I was happy to say it was smooth and tasty!! Had my birthday dinner upstairs at bourbon steak (see that review!) and then stopped in downstairs thru an unmarked door! Very quaint and pleasant- it's tight seating so you'll be forced to mingle ! It's not very loud so you can still converse and the music is mid-loud so there is still an ambiance. Everyone was dressed up and intimately sharing their thoughts in low conversation. The drinks were made with a heavy pour just like I like !! It is reservation only bc it's limited seating- we (only 2 of us) got a space by the bar but the back area is also cute for "bigger" groups. Honestly I just wanted to come here to see Stephen Curry new bar. It's on the side of the hotel. Small but cute. We lost our reservation because we were 20 minutes late. I am always on time but traffic was horrible and parking worse. We were able to sit at the bar which is first come first serve. I went for the HIGHBALL but was told I couldn't because it's apart of a tasting menu with 4 other drinks for $145. I was disappointed but got a trolley. It was good. Tasted like a Paloma. There is no food here either. In case you think you can order appetizers in case. We came here after dinner for drinks. Check it out if you are in the area but don't go out of your way like I did. Just wanted to highlight our bartender Jaime. He was extremely knowledgeable, and you could tell he is passionate about his craft, and overall very thorough. My boyfriend and I shared the Gentleman's cut cocktail tasting. Course 1 and two were probably my favorites. We arrived at the bar around 10pm on a weekday, so seating was wide open. My wife and I are staying at the hotel and came down to the bar to get a couple of martinis. The decor and the vibe of the bar was super lit and we were really excited to hang out and enjoy some martinis. When we looked around, we saw that people were drinking martinis out of coupé glasses. I don't go to a cool bar to drink martinis out of Coupé glasses. Quite frankly I'm surprised anybody does. We were disappointed. We went across the street to Mastro's and had an amazing martini in a martini glass. My preference would've been to stay, but not with coupé glasses. Lame. read more

The truffle agnolotti was rich, silky, and one of those dishes you keep thinking about after the meal. The bone-in ribeye was cooked perfectly and somehow even better with both the bearnaise and the signature Bourbon Steak sauce--my husband couldn't stop talking about the bourbon steak sauce. It should be bottled up! the beignets were my daughters favorite. It was light, warm, fluffy, and dangerously good- the kind you order "for the table" but don't actually share. What a bust!!!! Michael Minna cannot get it right in San Francisco. This is Minna's third failure in a row here in SF. All the hype of a speakeasy venue with the backing of Steph Curry sounds like a lucrative and successful venture, but not in SF fools. Place is empty on a Friday night, bartenders are clueless of the theme and have no knowledge about high end bourbons. A flight will set you back $150 and for two people with gratuity is $500. Want a bite to eat? Need to go across the street because there is not even a peanut on the menu. All of Minna's places go belly up and I am sure The Eighth Rule will be no exception. Would be Better as an Irish pub and it would also be packed with people. read more

My wife and I went to The Eighth Rule last night. I was especially excited to go to Steph Curry's new "speakeasy". We had 9:30 reservations and arrived 5 minutes early. The seating in the back section was already full and they offered us a seat in the front area. The ambience was minimal at best. I ordered the gentleman's cut, but it was not to my liking. My wife ordered the Sam Brennan. It was so tart that she could not drink it. She had one sip and waited another 10 minutes and had a second sip, but that was all she could stand. $28 for a cocktail that you can only sip twice was to say the least disappointing. I went early - just after 5pm - and asked to sit at the bar. It was not crowded in fact very few people were seated. I was given a glass of water and some menus. After looking through the menus I tried to order but was told I needed to wait for the bar staff. Meanwhile guy sitting next to me was able to order and get his food. He was embarrassed and apologized to me - a guest! Unfortunately the bar staff was taking care of other people and despite waiting for a quite a while they ignored me and served others who came after. I realized I wasn't going to be served and left.
