If you're looking for a fun night out, the Eighth Rule is definitely worth a visit! The vibe is super chill with dim lighting, perfect for a speakeasy feel. We started with the Duck Fat Fry Trio--plain fries were the standout for me. The highlight, though, was Stephen's Chicken Tendies. Huge pieces of chicken that are crunchy on the outside and juicy inside--yum! For our group of six, we didn't go overboard and followed Rule #3 with a Trio of Sashimi (great fish portions) and the Truffle Agnolotti and Braised Wagyu Short Rib served with horseradish whipped potatoes and topped with an onion ring. Tucked away in the Westin St Francis hotel, you honestly wouldn't know where it is until staff tells you. It's very non assuming and to be honest oddly placed. Seemed like it was an old conference room in the hotel that they remodeled into this bar. Nevertheless, the actual bar itself was cute. The service was nice and the drinks were good. I went with the Mosaic bc I'm a mezcal girl and it was delicious. Most of the drinks seemed on the sweet side which I like but may not be everyone's jam. Hoping to see Curry...but didn't. I booked this for my wife's birthday. The staff and service were amazing. The modern Speak Easy ambiance was pretty damn great. The food and drinks were killer. My only qualm was that my swordfish was fishy. "WTH ITS FISH!" Is probably what you're yelling into your phone right now, BUT, swordfish is not a fishy, fish. It's sweet and lean. So, my guess is, it wasn't the freshest but the flavor profile if you get past the fish taste, it was seasoned perfectly. It was a bit too dim for us mid-fourties' folks, but it did set a beautiful tone. So no judgement here . Amazing time! Very cool speakeasy vibe. The cocktails and service are on point and a great place for a shared dining experience before a night out! We started with the trio of duck fat fries- OMG! Plain, garlic, and BBQ. I have to say plain was my fav cause you could really taste the duck fat! Perfection. The chicken nuggies were crunchy, meaty, and dusted in spice. Had such a great experience at The Eight Bar & Lounge inside the historic The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square. The vibe gives elevated speakeasy energy with a cozy, upscale atmosphere that feels perfect for date night or drinks with friends. The menu is designed around smaller shareable plates, which honestly made the experience even better because we got to try several different dishes. Every bite was packed with flavor. Our server, Becca, was amazing -- super attentive, friendly, and completely on point the entire night. The drinks were crafted perfectly and balanced so well. Husband loves his bourbon drinks and was not disappointed. All the dishes came out amazing and tasty. Out favorite dish of the night was definitely the braised wagyu ribs... absolutely incredible and full of flavor. That sauce-WOW!! Easily the standout item for us. Love a great bourbon! Tried the Steph Curry Gentleman's Cut old fashioned and I was happy to say it was smooth and tasty!! Had my birthday dinner upstairs at bourbon steak (see that review!) and then stopped in downstairs thru an unmarked door! Very quaint and pleasant- it's tight seating so you'll be forced to mingle ! It's not very loud so you can still converse and the music is mid-loud so there is still an ambiance. Everyone was dressed up and intimately sharing their thoughts in low conversation. The drinks were made with a heavy pour just like I like !! It is reservation only bc it's limited seating- we (only 2 of us) got a space by the bar but the back area is also cute for "bigger" groups. Visited here before my dinner reservations at Bourbon Steak. Very nice, Mad Men vibes. I had the Sam Brannon which was really good even for me not being a huge bourbon fan. The staff were really friendly. We unfortunately got seated in the entry area I think because we were late for our reservation. You only have a 15 minute grace period before it's cancelled, even though I called, understandably. The back area looked a lot nicer to sit and enjoy. read more

Honestly I just wanted to come here to see Stephen Curry new bar. It's on the side of the hotel. Small but cute. We lost our reservation because we were 20 minutes late. I am always on time but traffic was horrible and parking worse. We were able to sit at the bar which is first come first serve. I went for the HIGHBALL but was told I couldn't because it's apart of a tasting menu with 4 other drinks for $145. I was disappointed but got a trolley. It was good. Tasted like a Paloma. There is no food here either. In case you think you can order appetizers in case. We came here after dinner for drinks. Check it out if you are in the area but don't go out of your way like I did. The decor and the vibe of the bar was super lit and we were really excited to hang out and enjoy some martinis. When we looked around, we saw that people were drinking martinis out of coupé glasses. I don't go to a cool bar to drink martinis out of Coupé glasses. Quite frankly I'm surprised anybody does. We were disappointed. Bourbon Steak truly lives up to the hype. Lots of menu options to choose from so there's def something for everyone. The truffle agnolotti was rich, silky, and one of those dishes you keep thinking about after the meal. The bone-in ribeye was cooked perfectly and somehow even better with both the bearnaise and the signature Bourbon Steak sauce--my husband couldn't stop talking about the bourbon steak sauce. It should be bottled up! the beignets were my daughters favorite. It was light, warm, fluffy, and dangerously good- the kind you order "for the table" but don't actually share. Just wanted to highlight our bartender Jaime. He was extremely knowledgeable, and you could tell he is passionate about his craft, and overall very thorough. My boyfriend and I shared the Gentleman's cut cocktail tasting. Course 1 and two were probably my favorites. We arrived at the bar around 10pm on a weekday, so seating was wide open. What a bust!!!! Michael Minna cannot get it right in San Francisco. This is Minna's third failure in a row here in SF. All the hype of a speakeasy venue with the backing of Steph Curry sounds like a lucrative and successful venture, but not in SF fools. Place is empty on a Friday night, bartenders are clueless of the theme and have no knowledge about high end bourbons. A flight will set you back $150 and for two people with gratuity is $500. Want a bite to eat? Need to go across the street because there is not even a peanut on the menu. All of Minna's places go belly up and I am sure The Eighth Rule will be no exception. weak tea. zero stars is more like it. incredibly long wait for an overpriced whisky neat in a small space that was not full and the staff outnumbered the patrons. lighting was awful, even worse in the back room. dark as hell with zero ambiance, a remarkably bad job for such a "high-tone" expensive place. curry should be ashamed, as should anyone who goes in here more than once. just like the restaurant: for poseurs and chumps only. do yourself a favor and go someplace else, these places are majorly disappointing clip joints. anyone who says different is part of the ownership group or plain fooling themselves. read more

My wife and I went to The Eighth Rule last night. I was especially excited to go to Steph Curry's new "speakeasy". We had 9:30 reservations and arrived 5 minutes early. The seating in the back section was already full and they offered us a seat in the front area. The ambience was minimal at best. I ordered the gentleman's cut, but it was not to my liking. My wife ordered the Sam Brennan. It was so tart that she could not drink it. She had one sip and waited another 10 minutes and had a second sip, but that was all she could stand. $28 for a cocktail that you can only sip twice was to say the least disappointing. I went early - just after 5pm - and asked to sit at the bar. It was not crowded in fact very few people were seated. I was given a glass of water and some menus. After looking through the menus I tried to order but was told I needed to wait for the bar staff. Meanwhile guy sitting next to me was able to order and get his food. He was embarrassed and apologized to me - a guest! Unfortunately the bar staff was taking care of other people and despite waiting for a quite a while they ignored me and served others who came after. I realized I wasn't going to be served and left. Maybe I didn't look rich enough or my Jimmy Choos weren't apparent enough? So disappointed. read more
