Great gyms are hard to find. Great coaches are even tougher to find. The East Los Lab has 2 in one location. Diana and Phil are a true power team. I injured my lower back while doing CrossFit, and was automatically looking for every excuse to rationalize why I should stop lifting weights. It didn't take very long to trust Diana with my recovery. Her testing was as comprehensive as it gets. She tested for muscle imbalances and range of motion. Diana was able to quickly assess that my limitations, in both areas, were causing me to overcompensate with my lower back. These limitations can be dangerous when doing complex lifts like the deadlift. A few months on the East Los Lab program and I turned my weaknesses into strengths. It's a virtue to push yourself to your limits, but can quickly become pointless if you end up injured. The East Los Lab has taught me to listen to my body and to prioritize intelligence before all-out effort. I also love that TELL doesn't treat you like a customer. Coming from Santa Monica, I am very picky about traveling long distances for anything, but let me tell you, The East Los Lab has been worth the drive every single time. Coming off a serious hip injury, Diana has been tremendously helpful and INFORMATIVE in my recovery. I have been coming to The East Los Lab for a few weeks now, and not only have I been working on recovering but I have also discovered other deficiencies in my mobility that have hindered the range of motion in my hip. Diana has focused on both external and internal rotation hip exercises with a variety of *strength exercises* - something you do not see at many if any, physical therapy clinics. I originally came to the East Los Lab after years of not completing physical therapy for my knee. I had ACL/meniscus surgery after a basketball accident and was unable to complete my treatment due to being unable to afford it. The East Los Lab has given me the chance to regain the confidence I lost in my knee while not breaking the bank. I thought I would not be able to run or jump as before but now I feel stronger after every physical therapy session which makes me really happy because I had forgotten what it felt like to have full use of my knee. What I find most meaningful is being able to stay physically active long-term while continuing to practice jiujitsu. Diana has helped me tremendously with my shoulders by reducing the pain I often felt and helping me with mobility. Due to this, my jiujitsu has improved and I have been able to adapt the way I fight to use my shoulders and knee more efficiently. I came to The East Los Lab because my brother in law told me they were really good and man, he didn't disappoint. I had what they called a frozen shoulder and couldn't move my arm at all. It hurt so much to even raise it up in front of my face. I thought that it would go away on it's own by just pushing myself harder at the gym but I was wrong, it was only getting worse. I went through about 6 months of pain before finally realizing I needed professional help. I started going once a week for physical therapy and in about 5 to 6 sessions my shoulder has improved by about 90%. I came to The East Los Lab because I had back pain that was keeping me from working out regularly, performing my job functions at work, and was waking me up at night. I worked with Phil and he was awesome! He found that my glutes weren't firing and my hip alignment was off. He did some manual therapy on me, walked me through some stretches and exercises, gave me a home exercise program, and my back feels great! After dealing with knee pain and instability for months, I finally went to see an orthopedist. He diagnosed me with chondromalacia patella and recommended I see a physical therapist. Luckily Diana had just started The East Los Lab and was able to start seeing me immediately. Our first appointment she thoroughly discussed my treatment plan, what I could expect from physical therapy and answered all questions I had. She worked with me on strengthening the muscles around my knees, hamstring and glute strength, and also hip mobility. BEST CARE EVER! STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AND JUST CALL! Man, I don't even know where to begin. I first came here because I had injured myself and ended up with a sciatica that was excruciating. I could no longer take the pain and needed to do something about. I reached out to them and from the very beginning they were just great. Very informative, caring and PERSONAL with my care. I came in with a 10 pain and immediately after my first visit, not only did I walk with some relief from my pain but also with knowledge as to what was going on with my back. I've been going to East Los Lab since late 2021 to gain more overhead mobility and strength in my shoulders for weightlifting and aerial arts as well as due to past injuries. I wanted to work with a PT that focused on strength and conditioning as well as someone who understood the type of physical requirements needed for what I do. I'm thankful I found that at East Los Labs with Coach D. I like that the sessions are one on one, she's explains the goals of the exercises, and she modifies the exercises based on what my body can do. She also provides programming for accessory work that I TRY to do through the week, which has been medicine for shoulders. Seriously everyone needs to experience physical therapy. I was referred to the East Los Lab by friend due to a running injury. I was training for the LA Marathon thinking I could still run. During my assessment with Diana she gave me her professional opinion which was to not run the marathon because I would just cause more damage to my injury. She's ran two marathons before. I decided to not run and just focus on my treatment with her and this was the best decision!! I have learned so many new exercises to help strengthen my body. I can say I have now used muscles that I didn't know I had! I see Diana about once every two weeks and in between my sessions she will text me to see how my "homework" is going or if I am experiencing any pain in my knee still. She truly tailors your treatment to what you have access to. Please go book your appointment and thank her and the team later! I have come a couple times to the lab and I can tell you that my sister, Diana, definitely has the knowledge and experience to fix/treat my pains or weaknesses. For me (as I train Jiu Jitsu) it was a back injury, which I initially thought was an upper back injury. She quickly did some tests and told me it was in the quadratus lumborum (QL), not my upper back. She had me do a series of exercises/movements which were pretty easy. I have done it three separate times now and I feel a fraction of the pain I felt when I visited her. I can actually twist my body to the right now.
