I used Axis PT for my pre- and post- spine surgery care a couple years ago or so. I had such a good experience there with the office manager, the quality of care, and overall experience with recovery and recommendations. This led Axis PT to be the only choice to return to when I recently suffered a Grade 3 sprain on my right ankle. This is the only place I have found that has 1:1 care for your appointment, it's 50min long, and the experience communicating and visiting there is consistently positive. I would recommend this business for anyone looking for PT in the Los Angeles area. read more

OMG, where do I start!? It's the first physical therapist I ever went to where I felt like I was being treated like a star athlete! After a few minutes of warm-up, Steve worked on me and taught me exercises to do at home that really work! Because of him, I was able to avoid hip surgery. I'm forever grateful! Knowledgable and caring...what a great crew they've got at AXIS PT! read more

I had tendonitis and a partial tear in my hip and I had let the injury go for too long, plus had tried PT elsewhere that hadn't helped. I could barely walk when I arrived at Axis PT. Over the better part of a year, Debbie worked with me to strengthen my core and get my hip to a place where I could not only walk but go up and down stairs and even jog a tiny bit. She was patient, helpful, methodical, precise, and really fun to work with as well! I looked forward to every session. I can't say enough good things about Axis PT. I went from very little mobility with bad posture and no core strength to speak of, to walking quickly and upright, all because of Debbie's expert care. I highly recommend her and Axis PT if you want to get expert care and get the job done. It has taken a lot of time but it's paid off and I left my last session today feeling about 95% better than when I started. Thank you Debbie and Axis! Also, special thanks to Cynthia at the front desk for always being cheerful and helpful. read more

I love Sharon. I genuinely believe she is invested in my health and that I get better. She goes home and thinks of new ways to help me. Axis is all about professional and measurable outcomes. I thank you all for making me feel back normal. read more

This review is long overdue but I'm glad I finally have time to write it. I was recommended to visit Axis PT by my personal injury attorney after I got rear ended on the freeway last May. I ended up getting rear ended by a Ford F-150 truck so you can imagine the sheer power of the impact while driving on the freeway. Anyways, when I got my first appointment, that was when Steve started opening up his business because of the pandemic and he did everything professional in terms of cleaning and sanitizing. All the tables were cleaned before he instructs you to lie on it, cleaned after you get off the table, as well as sanitizing his hands before and after he touches any instruments he uses on you. My back and neck was causing me so much pain that after going to Steve for several months, he really made a difference. The stretches, massages, and workouts he has you complete target the areas that really need the help. I really appreciated the time and effort he takes trying to make your body feel better and back to 100% pre-accident. Another reason I appreciated this place was that Steve offered early morning appointments since he's there bright and early working out himself. The early morning sessions were probably my favorite since I didn't have to deal with traffic in the afternoon. Overall, I enjoyed my sessions here and would come here again in the future for any pain or accidents I may have in the future. read more

Earlier this year I started having bad pain in my left shoulder; an orthopedist diagnosed it as chronic tendonitis, and everything from reaching up to a high shelf to putting on a shirt was excruciating. What's more, my partner and I were expecting, complicating things further- would I be able to carry a baby with a bad shoulder? Would my partner leave me for someone with two working shoulders? Could this be the beginning of a precipitous decline to ruin and decrepitude? No, because I found Axis PT! Sharon, my PT, is absolutely fantastic. She quickly identified the specific problem areas and gave me a series of easy to do at home exercises to rebuild strength and fix my shoulder. I am, to put it mildly, not a sporting man, and have never been to a gym in my life, but Sharon was great in educating me on correctly executing all the varied stretches, weights, training, etc. My shoulder is now as good as new. All the staff at Axis are great, and I also want to mention Cynthia, the manager, who is fantastic, friendly, and makes scheduling and intake easy. If you need physical therapy, I can't recommend Axis PT highly enough! read more

I have had issues with my right shoulder and rotator cuff for several years to the point where I had unmanageable sharp pain that kept me up all night for 2 weeks and I had to wear a sling. I decided to check out Axis PT after all the Yelp reviews because my shoulder started to feel strained again (perhaps it was all the swimming from 5 back to back triathlon races). After many chiropractors and doctors through the years the universe introduced me to Jeff and let me tell you why he's the real deal. In a few sessions he discovered the core issues that contributed to my shoulder pain. I learned through our sessions all the areas that needed strengthening, stretching, and mobility work which I was never aware of. During the time I saw Jeff I reduced my gym workouts a lot, at Axis PT I would use very light weights (I'm talking about 5 pounders) and in the end I felt stronger with just the mobility work. Today I have increased range of mobility, my core is stronger, I know how to mitigate potential future issues with my shoulder and I had fun working with Jeff. If you go to Axis, don't judge by the looks of the studio...go for the quality of care they give from Cynthia at the front desk, to Steve the Owner, Jeff with his holistic approach and extensive knowledge. read more

AXIS PT has an "old school" approach to physical therapy in which an accomplished therapist engages with a single patient for a full hour. There are no hand offs to assistants or group work. Steve Grinsted, the owner, has been my PT for nearly ten years. At age 81, working with Steve has freed me from the pain and limitations of my osteoarthritis, allowing me to travel and enjoy playing with my grandchildren. During Covid, we began to work via FaceTime, and we are continuing with this approach since that time. Steve is truly a genius at monitoring and guiding my movements, and especially at tweaking them that last 5% or so that greatly enhances their impact. We use a very affordable Sierra massage table, TRX straps, a few bands, a sports cord, and a kettlebell to totally replicate a full gym workout. At other times, when I go in, we cross the street to the Disney Concert Hall and innovate workouts using their steps and outdoor concert venue. Another great benefit from working with Steve is that he is an accomplished personal trainer as well as a licensed physical therapist. It is fun to be in a setting (when I do come to his clinic) where there is a range of clients from elderly patients attempting to retain their mobility to young athletes recovering from sports injuries. read more

My doctor referred me to PT after breaking my wrist. I was searching online for clinics that do manual therapy and came across Axis PT. I called the office and got an appointment for the next week. Sharon was assigned as my therapist. She was so friendly, a great listener, and explained everything I wanted to know about physical therapy and the recovery process. There was a mix of hands-on manual therapy and physical exercises for strengthening. I got exercises to do at home and my wrist improved significantly every week. Everyone at Axis PT was great and I loved my experience here! read more

I had very annoying pain in my left shoulder and neck. And thanks to Sam everything is fixed. She's really knowledgeable and listens to every detail you say, doing notes and adjusting the program accordingly. You can see her professionalism starting the first session - the diagnosis - doing all those unusual movements and stretches under different angles and positions - feels like every single muscle is involved to find the cause of your pain. Exercises are pretty easy to do, but they help a lot - even after the first visit and a couple of workouts at home I've felt so much better. Also, Sam advised on the correct posture when I'm at work, the monitors' location and the chair setup, which was a huge improvement in my everyday life! Cynthia, who works on the front desk, is very kind and friendly person. Always checks up on your ongoing appointments making sure everything's organized. Overall great experience! I definitely recommend this PT!!! read more

After an MRI confirmed I had a torn hip labrum, I had to give up playing college hockey as I wasn't prepared to undergo surgery at the time. For years I dealt with pain in this area, so much so that even going for walks was a painful problem. At 25 years old, I didn't want this to get any worse, and I took a recommendation to try out Axis PT. After only a few months, they not only helped me get back on the ice without any pain, but gave me the tools and knowledge to keep getting stronger on my own. To this day my pain has gone down to almost completely nothing, which a few years ago I would've never imagined possible! Amazing place with amazing people. Highly recommend (See Sharon! She's the best!) read more

I had an excellent experience recovering with Axis PT -- I had injured my knee and visited Sam for several months. She was extremely thoughtful and present through my recovery, and helped me go from 0 to the best shape I'd be in in many years. She also provided a lot of flexibility by showing me a lot of different exercises I could work with on my own and encouraged me to do what worked best for me. I'm excited to be back on the trails now and I feel like I have the tools to stay in shape Cynthia at the front desk was also very friendly and easy to schedule with. Couldn't recommend more! read more

This is my third time experiencing physical therapy, and not only was this by far the best PT I've received, it was easily the best experience I've had with any type of medical office, ever. Everyone here is amazing, contributing to an environment that is welcoming yet professional. I found Axis through Yelp (thanks y'all) and called after verifying they were in my insurance provider's network. Cynthia picked up the phone, scheduled an appointment, took my insurance information, and said she'd follow up with an email including paperwork. When I received the email a few minutes later, not only was there paperwork that I could fill out ahead of time, there was also a detailed explanation of what my insurance covered and my anticipated out-of-pocket costs. Plus appointment-related information like where to park, etc. My mind was blown. Now, it's all for shit if the actual therapy isn't helpful, but there again Axis came through. And looking at other reviews that seems to be true no matter whom you work with. Megan was my therapist, helping me with hamstring issues lingering after a tear several months prior. That's probably one of the less severe injuries they deal with, but Megan was just as thorough as if I was recovering from a ligament tear or worse. She was careful in her diagnosis and throughout my several (10+) visits was very perceptive, determining how I was progressing and which exercises would be most helpful. Within the first few weeks I noticed improvements in how my leg felt, and over time with Megan's help I was able to get back up to speed. Throughout it all, she was a pleasure to work with and I get the impression that all of the therapists here are just as helpful and friendly as Megan. They all work together incredibly well, which is one of the reasons this operation runs so smoothly. I feel obligated to come up with some kind of complaints, so I guess the space is somewhat cramped and if three or four people are being treated at the same time, it feels pretty crowded. Give yourself extra time for parking, especially the first time you visit. On the plus side, there are cubbies for storage, space for changing, and an easily accessible water machine. The equipment used is high quality and in great shape, unlike some other PT offices I've been to. If Axis is an option for you in terms of coverage/price and convenience, stop researching and schedule an appointment. You won't regret it, the average review is 5 stars for good reason. read more

No one likes getting injured, and rehab is no fun either. But if you do need physical therapy, this is the place to go. I've been coming to Axis PT for a year and a half now for two ACL reconstruction surgeries, and they are just top notch. I can't speak about the other therapists (though they seem quite knowledgeable too), but Steve is fantastic. He is very experienced and knowledgeable, friendly, funny, personable, and most of all, he is dedicated to helping you improve. Steve has been helping me not only regain my knee stability but also prevent further injuries and in some ways has made me stronger than ever. His patience and encouragement supported me through the early stages of my injury, and he keeps the exercises and routines functional yet interesting. Everything has a reason and your regimen here will be purposeful and progressive. He's also extremely friendly and willing to help out. You can tell he really cares about his patients, and he'll often give me advice or answer my questions about dealing with shoulder issues, back posture, and other non-knee related questions. Being a "weekend warrior" and a former amateur boxer, he also was able to tailor my workouts to get me back to where I wanted to be physically. You see patients here old and young, with all types of problems, and the therapists here are educated and experienced enough to help you with it all. Cynthia, the office manager, is also incredible. She handles everything with efficiency and ease, and a smile on her face. I've had insurance issues, went through an insurance change, etc., but she's taken care of everything. Cynthia turns one of the most frustrating parts of seeking medical care into a mere afterthought, because you barely have to worry about it at all. The space is a bit small but the equipment is kept in very good condition. Steve keeps the place spanking clean, which is very reassuring. Garage parking is also validated for an hour. It can fill up quickly so be sure to call early to book your appointments. I've already recommended a couple of friends in the past year and they also think very highly of Axis PT. You won't find a more friendly, professional, and effective place for physical therapy! The biggest factor in successful rehabilitation is your self-will. If you don't force yourself to work hard and frequently, you just won't get better. Going to a great PT place like this one gives you the tools you need to get better, so you won't have any excuses! read more

I called Axis PT out of the blue desperately needing advice as to whether or not surgery was needed or necessary for an injury I sustained. Cynthia answered the phone and was incredibly helpful and offered to have one of the physical therapists call me between clients. Less than two hour later, Debbie called. When I told her my situation, not only was she incredibly knowledgeable about the procedure I was possibly facing but she was amazingly empathetic and was willing to meet with me and help; I made an appointment immediately. I cannot express how competent, knowledgeable, and effective she is, not to mention incredibly nice with a good sense of humor. She accomplished more in the first 5 minutes than the entire consult I had with an orthopedic doctor. The fact that both Cynthia and Debbie would spend time on the phone with someone who might not even become a client was amazing; the actual service and treatment I have received on the first session was extraordinary. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I am so grateful for their help. read more

There's so much amazingness that goes on inside Axis PT, I don't know where to begin. Firstly, Cynthia is the epitome of "going above and beyond." Often times, office managers are overlooked, mainly because patients don't have to deal with them directly. I know she spends hours on the phone dealing with disgruntled insurance companies, just for the sake of the patients getting more PT sessions approved, paying less out of pocket, etc. This is not common, regardless of the office you walk into. Cynthia will go above and beyond to make sure your insurance, Axis PT, and you are on the same page BEFORE you do anything. She always has a smile on her face and you can feel her genuine desire to be there. If Steve is busy working with a patient, she is there to help him in a drop of a hat. Let's be honest...it is rare to see anyone do anything "outside of his or her job description," but she does so because she likes to help, not because she is getting paid to help. Steve, the owner of Axis PT, is awesome. Firstly, he's extremely educated (and you can tell), knowledgeable about what he is doing, and enthusiastic about doing it. Fortunately for me, I was able to fit in his rather busy schedule. My rehabilitation was for two hip surgeries (left and right), which was for bone spurs, labral tears, fluid in the joint, etc. Let's just say the surgery was pretty nasty, but the PT following it made my recovery THAT much easier. Under his care and instruction, you cannot fail. Steve has made it a point to take it back to the basics. Far too often you see PTs try to rush the recovery process, skipping what is necessary: correct muscle firing and reawakening the muscle memory that is affected after surgery or an injury. Nestled in Downtown LA, Steve's office is on the smaller side, but it's full of PTs who know their stuff and mirror his poise, professionalism, and energy. He keeps his staff small for a reason. The intimate setting you have at Axis makes you feel like you're genuinely important. Additionally, you're not being shuffled off from student to PT...because he doesn't hire students. You have individualized one hour sessions with your licensed PT, who is monitoring what you're doing, explaining why you are doing it, and advancing the motion/exercise as you get better. Nothing beats going to a PT that tracks your progress, acknowledges the advancements you're making, and can tangibly show you. I recommend Axis PT to anyone looking to fix an old injury, rehabilitate after a surgery, or looking for preventive maintenance on quickly-aging bodies. Steve and his PT staff works with patients as young as myself, and as old as 85 or 90. I wouldn't have been able to walk without crutches one week after my second hip surgery if it weren't for him. Nor, would I be able to do the things I could never do before my two surgeries. My flexibility has increased, my walk has changed (out of necessity), and I now know the "right" things to do and look for in my own personal workouts. Without his attention to detail, positive suggestions, and ability to thoroughly explain "why" we do the things we do, I would not be in the position I am today...healthier than ever before. If you're looking for a physical therapy office where the staff is polite, well-versed in PT, and an overall great experience, go to Axis PT. You will not be disappointed. read more

This was my first time doing PT. I went because of a herniated disc in my lower back. Let's just say it's been the most physically painful event of my life and Axis fixed me in just one visit! I've had sessions with Megan and Steven and they were both fantastic. Within a day I was able to walk and move around without wanting to pass out. The second session really got me back on my feet permanently. I can't say enough positive things about Axis. I really felt well informed and educated on what was happening to my back and what activities and movements I needed to do to reverse the damage. Cheers to Axis PT. Thank you! read more

Adam was a life saver. After an accident, I was really laid up with injuries to ACL, MCL, Meniscus and more. It led to a knee reconstruction surgery, and I spent nearly 10 weeks with these guys. If I hadn't moved, I would still be seeing Adam on a weekly basis. He is very thorough, and we did a lot of rehab starting from days after my surgery and he helped me get through critical stages of my recovery. One great thing is that you get to spend valuable time with a trained PT, and not handed off to an assistant. He did manual work on me, we used E-stimulation to trigger contractions as well as to treat pain. He was cautious, but he got me walking and biking quickly, and pushed me when it was needed. I highly recommend their group and especially if you have an ACL injury. Parking here is a bit of an issue, there is a lot under the center, but it costs money. There are a few meters, and those can be tough to come by at times. If you can walk or get dropped off, it makes it a little easier. read more

Truly enjoyed my physical therapy sessions with Steve. Not only was he patient, he was very thorough in explaining each therapeutic exercise and modalities. AXIS is located perfectly near DTLA but the best part is that they work with your work hours. Steve was always on time and ready to start @ 630am. That's right, 630am! Parking is very minimal with parking validation from AXIS. read more

This Physical Therapy spot was recommended to me by a friend who also had an ankle injury. It came with his high words and I can only agree. The staff here are great, and apparently this doesn't happen everywhere, but you spend your time with ONE therapist. (I've been going 3 months and have only had Sam). This way they get to know your injury personally and can manage your PT even better. A lot of people's experiences with PT can be daunting, or painful, or patients may just not want to go. Every time I have an appointment with Axis I can't wait to go and hang out to the Axis family while they work their magic. Also the therapists are SUPER knowledgeable. No one here is saying "umm" when you ask a question. Overall my progress is going well and I've learned a lot about my injury and PT and laughed a lot along the way. If you're broken and need to get fixed... You're messing up if you're not coming here! read more

Professional and courteous operation. Good attitude. Hector was patient, a good listener, and very competent.

Axis PT is awesome and both facilities is clean. Cynthia(Front Desk) She's great, very friendly and so understanding. Many times I had to cancel the morning of (last minute) and she does her best to fill the spot so I don't incur a cancellation fee. Both of their facilities is clean and nicely equipped. Adam my PT: He is totally chilled. I really appreciate that he takes time to listen, take notes of your aliments during every visit and then works on the problem areas. I also appreciate that he is not like some PT that discourages you from being active. Instead he encourages movement as long as you are mindful of your body! My five star rating is mainly for their team. They are all so understanding, take notes and follow up if need. The facility is also clean and equipped. Thanks Axis PT. read more

Steve and his staff are awesome! The place is clean in that they take care of cleaning their work area and equipment after each treatment, and their bathroom is clean too. Cynthia is great in scheduling me in and pleasant to speak with when I have questions. But let's face it, a clean environment and a friendly staff is not all we're looking for in a PT place - BUT IT'S A PLUS. I have been coming to Steve for eight years for a herniated disc that the surgeon insisted I needed surgery for - it's no surprise coming from a surgeon as they're in the business to do surgery. I opted for physical therapy which takes time and patience - luckily, Steve has patience! He's helped me tremendously and I continue to come see him with any flare-ups. I've recommended Axis PT to coworkers and friends because Steve and his colleagues have helped me greatly with my treatment, exercises and advise to minimize my flare ups. And another plus, they don't try to sell me any expensive medical equipment. In fact, I once complained about an achy foot and rather than spend money on some equipment, Steve suggested using a frozen orange or a frozen water bottle for my foot. read more

Terrible customer service... I just went in to make an appointment and they did not seem very interested in my business. I won't go back.

I've trusted Axis PT for physical therapy since it opened (I think at least 10 years ago). Actually, I was going to Steve for physical therapy even before he launched Axis PT. He is a healer! A combination of tissue work and exercise has helped me with an array of issues: repetitive strain in my arm; an injured hip flexor; post-surgery rehab for an ankle; and TMJ pain. He even has provided PT to help me more efficiently use muscles around my lungs after a COPD diagnosis, so that my exercise can get back to levels of a few years ago. Before I had the good fortune to find Steve, I had been to at least a half dozen physical therapists in the space of 4-5 years. Their work simply didn't yield results. Steve and the other therapists at Axis PT bring fantastic results. Besides being effective, Axis is well-maintained and efficient -- a great experience from the moment that Cynthia at the front desk helps you make an appointment. Cynthia also takes care of the insurance billing, and makes sure it all flows smoothly. Physical recovery can be challenging and stressful. The positive, calm, and friendly attitudes of everyone at Axis PT, along with their expertise, have made recovery more swift and more pleasant. read more

Axis PT had become my family. Steve has seen me thru a meniscus repair and two back surgeries. His compassion, empathy, yet making sure I did what was needed for recovery of the very complex situation I found myself. Axis saw me thru some very delicate situations and after moving from downtown, called Steve to get his feedback on what type of PT I should be looking for. This is a great organization and would recommend it highly. I'm not easily impressed or satisfied, but Steve knew his trade. I have gone thru many PT's over the course of my injures but this one was the best- hands on, became like family but worked me, guiding me thru the process to rehabiliation despite worker's compensation denials. You can't go wrong, they go the extra step. read more

I've gone to Axis PT for a number of different injuries over the years. Steve is, hands down, the best PT in Los ANgeles. I've seen other PT's at different places that have actually made my injury worse, but even when I'm in the worst pain, somehow Steve gets me back on track. He also gives me exercises and suggestions on how I can participate in my healing so that I don't have to keep seeing him forever! (not that I'd mind, because he's hysterical and fun!) Cynthia books all the appts and takes care of the billing, and she's fantastic as well. They have convenient parking just below and the facility is comfortable and intimate. Axis PT really cares about getting you better. You get one-on-one focused attention and you don't feel like they're just trying to get on to their next client.
