If you order the right thing, it's really nice. I ordered the chick'n entree. And I knew it was Puerto Rican when I ordered takeout and saw they put the beans in a cup for coffee lol. First, you will have to look for the restaurant D' Pura Cepa in the rundown strip mall to find The Earthy Kitchen. I just happened to notice a sticker for the latter on window. Also, the Yelp! address suite for The Earthy Kitchen is not correct. It has a completely different BBQ restaurant in suite A-9. When I mentioned this to the girl behind the counter, she just shrugged but did confirm that The Earthy Kitchen was inside the D' Pura Cepa (two restaurants in one). I ordered way too much food because I wanted to try a variety of vegan entrees. First up was the Lentil Empanada. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside -- tasty! Next up was the Roasted Jackpork meal. The food was good but the jack fruit didn't really have a pork flavor. It was served with a delicious bean soup and white rice, and I got the maduros for a side. Next up was the Vegetable Trifongo -- a take on the traditional Mofongo but with Mash Green Plantain, Sweet Ripened Plantain and Yucca - and cauliflower, carrots and broccoli mixed in. It was similar to a Mofongo but blander. I got some Acerola Juice - a fruity juice that wasn't overly sweet (which is good as far as I am concerned.) The place was empty at 6:00 PM making it seem like they do more of a take-out business, but no one came in for pickups the whole time I was there. The girl from behind the counter also did the waitressing. Although she brought a healthy amount of napkins, I had to ask for basic items - knife and fork, box for leftovers and I never got the water I ordered. She seemed more preoccupied with her phone and whatever she was listening to on the earbuds. If you venture on over for some tasty vegan food, don't expect too much service -- better yet, just do take-out. read more

I am recommending this place for anyone who is craving Puerto Rican food! There were foods that I have yearned to try since going vegan that are not widely available plant-based, so I was so happy to try some authentic vegan Puerto Rican dishes. I tried the Chik'n Chicharrón Mofongo ($18 with tax) which has fried soy protein for the chik'n. The dish was light on salt which I liked, and I was able to add either ketchup or hot sauce (went with the latter and loved it!). The fried chik'n doesnt look like regular chicken from the outside, but it had a "meaty" texture inside and was super crispy! The only unfortunate thing was they were out of all desserts when I went around 6pm. There was one staff member taking orders and waiting tables, and she was very friendly. The Sancocho was the star of the show! Yum! The rest was good, but not impressive. We had a little trouble finding the place because all the windows are tinted and the signage was small. Once inside because no one was dining and there was complete silence, we were unsure that they were open - but we were quickly greeted and the server confirmed that they were in fact open. As a vegetarian who loves Puerto Rican and other island food, I was stoked to try this place. I ordered pickup on a Friday night during the quarantine. Many things, like mofongo, were unavailable so we got chicken stew, a Cuban sandwich, an empanada, an alcapuria, and tostones. The chicken stew with rice was excellent and my meat-loving husband devoured it. The Cuban had good flavor, the vegan cheese they use is especially tasty, but it was constructed a little weird. All of the mustard was on one side so half the bites had no mustard and the other half you could taste nothing BUT mustard. It also had lettuce and tomato on it for some reason, and they'd been pressed with everything else so the lettuce was all wilted and nasty. The fried items were unfortunately nearly inedible. I don't know if their oil was bad or too hot, but everything was over cooked and tasted burned. I had to throw away the tostones and for the alcapuria and empanada I just picked out the filling as much as I could. I know everything is weird right now because of the quarantine, so I definitely plan to give them another try once things are a little more normal. I started writing this review with 3 stars but as I thought about each part of my dining experience I started removing stars. So here we are with 1 and here is why. The inside is not what we expected. It's not styled or decorated nicely at all. The few tables that were there were dirty. I cant imagine what the restrooms look like here. I'm usually down for trying random hole in the wall type of places to eat but this area is pretty ghetto. There was a woman wearing what looked like just panties outside next door. They are not accommodating and the menu cannot be modified. How a dish is listed dish is listed is how it will come. Naomi's, the cashier, response to a request was "I don't know what to tell you, that's how it comes" The overpriced mofongo is $17. It's a dish made of plantains, probably one of the cheapest things to make. We ordered a beef less empanada. The beef less meat was very dry. The outside of the empanada had a nice crunchy texture. The beef less stew was ok, a little bland. A lot more rice in the plate than I expected and wanted. We will not return. It wasn't anything special or that I can't make better at home. read more

A vegan Latin restaurant where the food is delicious and filling. We got the Sopa de Guandules, the Mofongo, and the Pastelon. We wanted to try it all. I am limited to Gluten-Free options but honestly, all I really wanted was that Mofongo, and let me tell you... I LOVED it. The guiso on the vegetables was so tasty and the Mofongo itself very good. The best part of our meal though was the soup, it had been an afterthought even though I adore soups, I had figured we had enough food but why not? I couldn't be happier I did. Pro:: 1) The person who took my order was friendly and attentive. Con: 1) Toilet seat was pretty gnarly. Wasn't willing to use the facilities while waiting for my food. 2) After seeing the commitment on their website of: "We refuse to compromise on quality in our restaurant. That's why we source our fresh ingredients (sic)in occasions ingredient and availability of items may vary by seasons" I was really excited. I was specifically looking for a vegan food restaurant that had fresh ingredients, and ordered the Vegetable Mofongo. I was terribly disappointed when, for $14+tip, I opened the container to find this. Oily and hardly "sautéed" freezer veggies. Nearly invisible chips of peppers. Still had that "frozen veg" flavor underneath everything. The Mofongo was under seasoned and the oily garlic and onion powder flavor on the veg overpowered any seasoning that was actually on the main dish. My mouth actually felt coated by it after. I had started to eat the food before I thought to take a picture, so there was more veg than showed, but quantity isn't my complaint. If you go through my profile, you'll see I'm not much of a reviewer. I usually just take the "L" and move on. But this was particularly disappointing based on what was committed vs. delivered. I'm certainly willing to give them another try in the future with a different dish, but I'll have to ask a lot more questions to temper my expectations. read more

This place took over the old Thai eatery that was here, I remember that old lady who owned that restaurant, she was funny and the food was pretty good. But now: Vegan Food! Despite the bad reviews of *no friends/no reviews* people, I had to come out and try it because my SO really likes vegan food. I have had very little Latin American inspired vegan food, I think that chips, salsa, burritos, tacos, etc, are the vegan option (plus the raw stuff) that are available mostly, so why not try some PR inspired stuff? Well, here we go. We ordered the pork and some fried stuff, and I must say that it was amazing. The jackfruit pork was delicious, a tad bit over salted, but amazing. The rice and beans were also amazing, and the mac salad was delicious. For sure one of the best vegan meals I've had. Additionally, we got a lentil empanada and a papa rellena, and if you are looking for something fried to perfection, this is it. The fried stuff was also amazing. And here I need to add, I lived in PR for a few years, and I know PR fried stuff. This is for sure the best I've had, and it may be because it is fried to order. Big plus: no animals were hurt! When we were done, I told my SO: "I can live on these rice and beans for the rest of my life". I remember when I became vegetarian after turning 21, living in Miami, and my meals were reduced to black beans/rice/sweet plantains, which was what Cuban people were eating (I worked at a Cuban restaurant/got to take advantage of speaking Spanish). Vegetarians at that time didn't have many options, and nowadays things have shifted. And I am glad to see the change to more ethical and conscious options, despite others glorifying burgers and bacon. I am not saying don't eat animals, I am saying enlighten yourself a little more, and faster. The space at The Earthy Kitchen is small, maybe 6-8 tables, the people running the place are very knowledgeable and helpful, and the food is really good. There are bottled drinks available also. My family ordered from Earthy Kitchen for the first time a couple days ago and it definitely won't be the last -- the food was fantastic! Our favorites were ALL the empanada flavors (I liked the lentil and the chick'n best), papas locas, beans, pasta salad, and quesitos (both with and without guava). Next time I'd also like to try the potato balls, pastelon, and coconut flan; hopefully they'll be in stock! I'd also like to mention that the staff member I spoke with when my UberEats order had multiple problems (none of which were the restaurant's fault!) was incredibly nice and professional. My only (small) complaint is that I wish they had more of their dine-in menu items available for online ordering, like their mashed potato casserole, soups, and certain dessert options. I'd like to finish by saying that the guy who said "all the good reviews are lies" is a jerk and should know by now you can't have everything you order be perfect every single time, that's just life buddy. Earthy Kitchen is the definition of a hidden gem. It's a little tucked away, but worth the search for sure. I tried the veggie mofongo and a beefless empanada.. and damn! Lots of flavor and texture!! So we placed our order when we called in we spoke with a lady and she was very nice we asked about the food and the portion sizes and we were told that each portion size is about enough to feed one person that was the first lie they are very small portions so one portion will feed your five-year-old child that's about it So we ordered 2 Buffalo Wings 2 BBQ Wings 2 Chickn Baskets 4 Beef empanadas 1 Yellow Rice 1 Papa Locus We place the order at 6:20 PM and the closing time was 7 PM we arrived at 6:57 PM to pick up our order they were still continuing to make the food we didn't end up receiving our meal at 7:27 PM. How many vegans that are reading this review right now have ever heard of GARDEIN. Yes that is what you are getting. They purchased GARDEIN Chickn and didn't even try to de bread it they just put even more breading on top of it. If that wasn't bad enough. Because they did this the chickn wasn't cooked because the breading cooked so fast leaving the chickn rubbery and under cooked. The fries were still cold and hard. The worst part to all of this is that we paid $96 for GARDEIN when they state on their own menu made in house. It's a lie they are falsely claiming to make this chickn in house it's store bought. The beef empanadas were GARDEIN beef crumbles. They were so mushy they were horrible. To tell you how completely awful this food actually was we threw it all away $96 we threw in the trashcan because of how absolutely disgusting it was and let's not forget to mention another review that stated that they found hair in their food was absolutely spot on we didn't find only one piece of hair we found three pieces of hair in the food needless to say we will never go back to this place ever again even during Covid I would rather eat out of a trash can and it's a shame because We really had high hopes for this place as it advertised buffalo wings and barbecue wings. Enclosing save your money if you want the same kind of food that they serve you can go to any grocery store pick up some GARDEIN chickn and make your own for a third of the price. Took my wife to check out this restaurant for a vlog review after seeing it from a few tags online. Sadly like most things online, it was a lie. The place is located in a pretty rundown looking area in Orlando. It was empty when we walked in and it was near 5 pm. When we walked in we were awkwardly greeted, sat and given menus. After ordering drinks, our order was taken and after asking for a few suggestions from the waitress who seemed clueless she took our menus and rushed off after ordering. I will say I was impressed at the speed of ordering to getting food to the table but with that same speed the food came, the waitress started to rush us at the table. She came to the table at least 5 times in less than 6 minutes just picking up little of pieces of stuff dropped on the table, like a wrapper from the straw or a napkin and not asking if we needed anything and we were still eating while she would reach into the table to pick stuff up. It was very weird and wasn't near closing time. However, the food was ok, just a bit overpriced, but would have been a better experience had we not felt rushed to eat and leave. read more
