I went for the first time today and I definitely won't be returning! The service was terrible! Our waitress had a snotty attitude and took a long tome to take our orders then followed that pattern by not checking on us during the long wait for our food. We literally had to flag down an employee by the door to locate our server because she took that long to come to the table. Also, they were not crowded at all. We asked her questions about the cocktails and she looked at us as if we should know the answer. We ultimately had to figure it out on our own. we notice her laughing and seemingly friendly with another table but became still faced and snotty when she finally returned to our table. The food was sub par and the cocktails were not strong or buzzworthy at all. We ordered Screwdrivers & Amaretto Sours. I can say the DJ was really good though. My daughter had a reservation for her birthday. The food took over an hour to come out and looked like it was sitting around for that hour. Dry pasta was a dab of sauce. They were out of so many items. It was a frustrating mess and she ended up in tears because she asked all of her friends to join her for dinner and the service and food was a big disappointment. I went here about a month ago, and it was the first time I've ever eaten here. The ambience of the place is beautiful and I wondered why it was not busy for a Friday. All 3 of us enjoyed the food, fresh, and it came to the table fast. We believed it would be another restaurant in the area we could go to. Recently, I went again with more people and talked about how the first time I went it was great. For the weekend it was still dead and that made me hesitant this time around-- wondering why it is consistently dead. The service both times was great, the people working there are incredibly nice. The food this time around was extremely disappointing the appetizers were good like previously-- but the meal no so much. The meal took a long time even though there were only two other tables with guests. The food was mediocre and each of our bread/ buns were stale and old. Leaving us grossed out for the meal. The meat proportion also was way smaller in the Philly compared to the first time (only one thin slice). Had a reservation for Saturday brunch at 12. Started off well, waiter was very nice and attentive and explained the ordering and paying process. Food came out and was cold but the waiter kindly took it back and replaced it. At 20min before our reservation was up, a worker came by and asked us if we could get up and move to a different table since there were people waiting for our table. I strongly dislike restaurants that do this. My reservation is for 2 hours and now you're inconveniencing me for other patrons. I had 29 mins left so why not wait til I'm ready to leave, we were going to order more to go but that left a bad taste in my mouth. We had a reservation but was a tad bit late because it's pretty far out but they still sat us. We were suppose to be sat in a booth but too much was going on. Theres a very small amount of bars/restaurants in the city that not only have good food/cocktails/service.. but have GOOD MUSIC!! This spot is one of one.. they have a live DJ with an assortment of music ranging from house-hip hop. Ariel is AMAZING. The love and skill she puts into her cocktail craftsmanship is flawless and her service is always exceptional. I look forward to coming to the Duplex whenever she's on the bar because I know my experience will be top notch. She makes her guests feel like a priority. The high point of this restaurant is the service. The server we had was amazing. She was attentive and informative about details of the restaurant and menu. The low point was the strength of the cocktails and the food. We went on Saturday evening for happy hour and the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. It was quiet and the interior was nice also. My partner got an old fashioned and I got a Aperol Spritz. The old fashioned tasted like it barely had alcohol and the spritz tasted like sparkling water. Maybe that was was the happy hour value. We got wings also and those were ok. After we got the check. The server explained to us the 20% gratuity added was for their servers, bartenders and back of the house staff. I didn't like that. My group and I are super easy to please and understanding as long as the service hits the absolute minimum standard. Sadly, the staff at the duplex could not hit this low bar. After we had clearly finished our meal, our waiter did not stop by our table for at least 25 minutes. Although she made long stops at the four tables around us and an influencer/videographer who got aggressive with our table when we asked him to not film us, our waitress would not stop by or acknowledge our table despite multiple people from our party attempting to get her attention. After we closed out with a different waiter, our waiter finally stopped by our table to inform us that we could not stay because they had an incoming reservation. At this point, 9 on a Saturday night, the place had a total of four occupied tables and we were literally only still at the restaurant because the waiter could not be bothered to stop by our table earlier. I came to the Duplex last night and though our food was good, we were turned off by their QR code ordering system. It made our experience very impersonal--we didn't feel that we could ask questions about the food and then in the end we had a 20% tip already added on to the bill. We also felt that being able to see how much money we were spending as we went made us order less! It was helpful from our end but probably not the restaurant's. The food was good, I really liked the Kluckers wings and the cornbread, but it wasn't a standout meal. I would try a different restaurant in Logan next time I'm there. read more

Just went the other day because I'm new to the area. Our waitress was so sweet and gave us the best recommendations! Full Review: Made reservations for brunch here this past weekend and had no issues finding a convenient time. I initially booked for indoor dinning as outside was not available, but was able to switch thanks to the host staff day of. Read reviews ahead of time so thought I knew what to expect when it came to ordering / interaction with servers etc. The host kindly explained the process and unlike some prior reviews stated, the server is actually more than just a food runner and was available to share recommendations / answer questions about the menu and ordering process which was great IMO as I like asking for recommendations. The Process: I really enjoyed the ordering process through ToastTab which creates 1 check for the table but each individual can add their own order under their name, and you can place the order together so everything comes out as if you ordered traditionally. I also liked that you can add to your order (even after it's been placed) if you decide you want another drink / food etc. You can also split the check and only pay for what you ordered at the end! On the table there's a sign that explains the process and does note the auto 20% gratuity. The Food: -2 coffees (had to search for coffee because I couldn't find it under the brunch menu) - standard drip coffee with free refills. Nothing fancy here but good enough to drink black. I wish there was an option for iced coffee, or non dairy / non creamer alternatives...I'm sure you could ask your server though. -Shrimp & grits was recommended by our server and turned out to be a huge portion of grits and good portion of shrimp. Super tasty but definitely heavy with the cream, cheese grits, bacon bits etc. I thought it was well seasoned / prepared. Asked for hot sauce since I like my shrimp & grits to have a kick...think they only have Tabasco which isn't my favorite but did the job. -My friend ordered the mushroom omelet which came with a side of roasted potatoes and toast with butter and jam. Went for brunch on a Sunday and were incredibly disappointed. The brunch menu is very limited (the website makes it seem like a lot more is available). We got the shakshuka and biscuits and gravy, and we are pretty sure both were reheated from the fridge. They were barely warm when they came out. The biscuit was dry, dense and didn't taste like much. The eggs in the shakshuka were fried separately (overcooked, too) and then plopped in the tomato sauce. The handle of the cast iron skillet we were warned was "very hot" was lukewarm out of the kitchen. Did not get offered a coffee refill until we asked for the check. And it was expensive and gratuity is included (and not obvious). I really wanted to like this place! We may try it again for dinner on an busy night in hopes that stuff is cooked fresh. The first time I went I was overwhelmed by the technology. Patrons order their own food via the app on their phone. It's really cool. The food (chicken dishes) were salty. The 2nd time I visited was during brunch. If you make reservations, make sure they check you in so that you are not charged as a "no show". The shrimp & grits on this visit was ok. Do not order "off" the menu, meaning no "special requests". It definitely throws off the staff and is k no it the vibe of the restaurant. They do not take orders. I will not make the mistake of going to this place again. Awful service and very pricey food and beverages. The hostess did not even acknowledge our existence, and after sitting at the bar, it took five to 10 minutes for anyone to even come check on us. Two of the staff members were working behind the bar, but pretty much ignored us, leaving us sitting without drinks or food orders. After I placed an order for a margarita, that was pretty much a 10 or 15 minute wait. No kidding. It was the most unfriendly staff that I have ever seen in a restaurant. It became even more outrageous when we were hit with a 20 percent service charge, on top of what were already high prices and extremely bad service. I was begging my friend not to leave a tip it was so bad. The food was good, and the interior was nice. But the unfriendliness of the staff killed it for us. read more

The summer is here and brunch season is in full swing. This new Logan square location is here to win. My wife and I stopped in to eat before hitting the farmers market. Placed beautifully in the newly renovated Logan Square area. The fresh decor and friendly staff made for a comfortable dining experience. With most places you can scan a code for the menu. This one does have a twist. You can actually pay for your food as you use the menu code. This is streamlined to keep service fast and efficient for you and the staff. We both had the Lobster omelet and spilt the Drunken french toast both were delicious and had us wanting for more. My wife also had a cocktail that she described as "smooth and wonderful." The music also set a great mood as well with a DJ playing some quality tunes. This will be a frequent place for us this summer for sure. read more

Finally grabbed dinner here just in time before their food concepts rotate next month. We ordered a mix of Space Cowboy burgers/fries with the TKG kimchi fried rice. All three dishes were exceptional. The ambiance of Duplex is great and the staff is attentive. They have a contactless payment system that lessens the burden on their staff, and was appreciated by us for the ease of ordering and payment. Yesterday, I visited the duplex. Here's my full review of the restaurant. Getting a reservation was pretty easy. Went online at pretty much the last minute and there were several reservations available. Required a $20 deposit to hold the table. We got the the restaurant. There was free street parking but it was full. After circling the block a few times, we were able to catch someone who was leaving. Went to check in. We asked the hostess for a booth. There were about 3 available. She said that she could not because those would be for larger parties. This was disappointing because they 2 seater tables slider together to form larger tables as well for larger parties. Instead, I ended up at a half booth that was extremely too close to the next table, a party of 6. There was at least 2 booths open during my entire visit as well. Moving along, upon arrival, they gave us a welcome shot. I don't remember specifically what the drink was but it was a bit sour. I did appreciate the welcome though. Our waiter was very nice. He explained to us that we use the QR code to order and pay for our food online. The process was fairly easy. The part that I did not like was that the deposit does not go toward the food. If you don't miss your reservation, they will refund the deposit to your card in up to 7 days. Doesn't make much sense to me personally. We received our food. It was very hot when it came out which is a plus to me. I ordered the wings with fries and my husband ordered the shrimp and grits. The wings were not great at all as it relates to flavor and texture. I could not eat them. The fries were thick cut so I was worried about how they'd come out but they turned out to be really good actually. My husbands shrimp and grits were pretty good. As we prepared to check out, the waiter noticed that I didn't eat the wings and said he would try to get them taken off of the bill. Since I had already paid, it was too late. They offered us something else. My husband ordered shots. When we received them, they didn't quite taste like what we ordered, but we appreciated the good gesture. As for the bathroom, it wasn't the best or worst restaurant bathroom I had ever seen. There was a little bit of tissue on the floor and the garbage cans were overflowing. This restaurant is by far one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. The music was extremely loud to the point that the waitress had to yell to communicate. The restaurant was overpacked, and the layout did not lend itself to an efficient workflow. Due to the crowd, the food presentation and quality suffered greatly. Despite being told by the guests sitting adjacent to us about their experience, we decided to stay. Needless to say, it was an extremely poor decision. First, we were not seated at our reservation time. Secondly, it took one hour for us to be informed that the appetizer was no longer available. After 1 hour, 10 minutes, the order was wings came after they traveled the restaurant because the attendant didn't know who ordered them. Once they arrived, they were dry and cold and lacked flavor. The same feedback from the guests adjacent to us. Shrimp and grits were cold. Fries equally as bad. Asked to return food, it took 10 minutes to get a bill only to realize nothing had been removed. Once they finally corrected the bill, I was out out of 70 dollars, and I didn't eat anything. The business model and strategy need to be revisited. read more
