We stayed at Esmé Miami Beach and found out the hotel partners with The Drexel and offers complimentary cocktails for hotel guests. That's how we ended up meeting the bartender, Rene, who made our drinks. The cocktails were excellent and the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. We had a couple of cocktails and then left to take care of some things. Later that evening, around 10 PM, we came back and decided to try the restaurant's signature cocktails and they were fantastic. We were really impressed. My wife absolutely loves the Pavlova dessert, and we simply couldn't resist ordering it, even after 10 PM, if you know what I mean. And it was totally worth it. If you're visiting Miami Beach, especially if you're staying at Esmé Miami Beach or nearby, I definitely recommend stopping by The Drexel and ordering a couple of cocktails (and maybe dessert too). Subject: Feedback Regarding Recent Dining Experience Dear Management Team Last night, my friends kindly took me to your establishment to celebrate my birthday. I want to begin by saying that our waitress was absolutely lovely--attentive, warm, and a pleasure throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience, particularly the food and value, fell far below expectations for your price point. We began with the grilled octopus, priced at $31. When we asked if it was appropriate for sharing, we were told it was. However, what was served was a single, very small piece of octopus on a plate barely larger than a bread dish. This portion was not at all reflective of the price. The carrots were well-portioned and enjoyable, but the main courses were disappointing. Two of us ordered the hanger steak ($54), and both portions were extremely small--far below what would reasonably be expected. The presentation was sparse, served on a large plate with only a small amount of purée and no accompanying garnish or sides. Most concerning, however, was the organic chicken dish ordered by a third guest, which was served undercooked. Upon cutting into it, it was clearly raw inside. This is not just disappointing--it is a serious food safety issue. Additionally, the sides were presented as shareable but were served in very small portions that did not support that claim. To make matters worse, the fire alarm went off four separate times throughout our dinner, repeatedly disrupting the experience. At no point did anyone from the establishment acknowledge the inconvenience or offer even a small gesture--such as a complimentary drink--to make up for the repeated interruptions. I am very familiar with the area and have visited your restaurant before for happy hour, which made this experience especially disappointing. Given your reputation and pricing, I expected a much higher standard in both food quality and overall guest experience. It was slow. Took a while to come out. 2) portion sizes were good, not too much, not too little. 3) the restaurant and outdoor area was very pretty. 4) drinks were water down though so i would not come for cocktails because they were very pricy for how watered down they were. 5) food was tasty but meat not cooked to temperature requested. My cocktail was delicious - similar to a Hugo Spritz. The grilled octopus was delicious and tender, the roasted eggplant was good but the star was the green salad. That is not a joke...the dressing was well balanced with the sage and citrus, and the greens were so fresh. The skirt steak with fries was a winner as were the lamb chops. To note - it's not really a cucumber salad that accompanies the lamb chops...it's an assortment of herbs with some long slices of cucumber and a few tomatoes. I went for a Miami Spice (August through September) dinner on a Wednesday evening. It wasn't busy at all. The space hardly had 1-2 other tables occupied. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed eating at The Drexel. It was surprisingly very empty on the Wednesday night I went. This was even more surprising when we tasted how delicious the food is. My partner said he enjoyed this food even more than the Michelin star restaurant lunch we had earlier in the day. And when we went back to the area a few weeks later for a different (and higher-rated) Miami Spice restaurant, we quickly regretted not going to The Drexel instead. The portions were a perfect size. Appetizer I ordered a salad. My partner ordered a crab cake. Both were winners. Entree We aren't big on mussels or gnocchi, and that left us with one Miami Spice entree option: the skirt steak with fries. It may have been the best skirt steak I've ever tasted. I was nervous at the size of the meat that I would be hungry after, but I was full. Dessert My partner ordered the pavlova. I ordered the panna cotta. We really liked our own, but decided to swap halfway through because we liked each others slightly more. The pavlova was fun. The panna cotta had a lot of raspberries and tart flavor on it, which kept me from being able to appreciate the texture and flavor of the panna cotta. I wish there was a way on the reservation site to mention we were celebrating a birthday. We sat outside and our group ordered several drinks which were great and the service was awesome and attentive. Where The Drexel falls short is the food. The veggies we ordered were okay, the seafood however was not good (to put it nicely). This place seems like a great spot for drinks but I would stop there - just do drinks. We have gone twice for the breakfast that is included with the Esmé hotel stay, which is very good. There is no decaf coffee option offered, so we asked a lovely gentleman if we could somehow get a cup and without hesitation, he made one! We weren't told that there was an extra cost for the decaf. The following day, we once again asked for a cup of decaf, this time, the lady told us that it cost extra. So we politely told her that the day prior, we weren't charged anything, but if that's the case, then fine, we didn't need it. She followed us to our table insisting on continuing on about how it's their policy and we should have been charged. She was quite rude and we had already moved on. Recently had my third visit on a sleepy Monday night, providing a contrast to a previously buzzy Thursday visit and extremely busy Friday night. The menu is very well put together with great options regardless of your mood. The pastas are excellent and homemade. Their cacio e pepe with a touch of lemon is amazing. Their pizzas are thin crust and very tasty. The more substantial dishes have all been delicious, the flat-iron pressed chicken being my favorite. There's also a great selection of appetizers and veggie items available - the fried cheese is to die for. Surprisingly, the neighborhood is also a star here. The "new" Espanola Way is transforming from a terrible tourist trap into something that locals and visitors alike would actually want to come to again and again. My wife and I had breakfast there this morning. It looked very inviting although a limited breakfast menu. We sat outside at a sunny table so we could people watch. Our server was very pleasant and took our orders and brought coffee pretty quick. Our food arrived and mine was not what I had ordered....but it was fine. My wife had what appeared to be a delicious breakfast burrito. Her burrito midway at one end had some funky large chunk of something that should not have been in there. So she only ate half of it and didn't want to make a fuss. The coffee was excellent ....it would have been nice to have a refill....i went in to see about more coffee (because I saw our server leave) and I was told that they were closed!!! Like they had no idea we were out there eating. Of course I told her we were still out front eating and we also should have our check...she was stunned and a first didn't know what to do. So I asked if she could get our check and that I was disappointed that they forgot about us and wouldn't give us a refill on the coffee. She came out with the check apologized and offered us to go to their roof top area where we could get coffee. Too strange So initial service was fine, food not so good and ending service questionable. A group of 5 tourists showed up as this was happening and the same woman gave them the breakfast menus to look at and when they asked for a table they were told that the restaurant had closed . This resulted in half of the table still waiting for their food while the other half had already finished their meals. We were a larger group but it took an unacceptable amount of time for everyone to get their food. Server was inattentive and made no real effort to deal with the issues at hand. We made several requests to speak with a manager but the manager refused to come out and speak with us. After waiting for about 20 mins for the manager to come to our table, we just gave up. Very unprofessional and cowardly behaviour. Whole experience was extremely disappointing and there was no real effort to rectify the situation, not even an apology. If the horrendous service isn't reason enough to avoid this restaurant, the food was very mediocre. The food and the ambiance is a 10 out of 10 I love how intimate and chic this restaurant is but then again relaxed and comfortable it's a great place for a nice dinner and the food was extremely tasty and filling the whole organic chicken is enough to feed four people even though it was only 2 of us we tried to eat as much as we could and took the rest home. To begin, their cocktails are made with fresh juices, nothing bottled or from concentrate. I loved the Paloma de la Noche. For apps, the baked kefalograviera is simple and delish. We also ordered the local tuna carpaccio, which was refreshing. I would skip the charred squid, as it was lacking for me. For the main, the whole organic chicken is a MUST have. We were a party of 4 and had chicken left to spare. The chicken is juicy and flavorful and the fries are excellent. Plan ahead and order the chocolate soufflé for dessert.
