Drove in from Kansas City and stayed at an airBNB just a couple of blocks from here. Staff was super welcoming and cool. It wasnt too busy, but also wasnt a ghost town. Perfect amount of people. Great drink specials! My husband gave the Bloody Mary two thumbs up, and he is very picky about them! The live music was great. Overall loved the feel of this place. I went on a Friday night to see some singer/songwriters perform. We walked in and everyone working there was friendly. It's dimly lit, which is fine because the focus is on the stage. I did not have a drink or anything to munch on. I'm not sure if food is available, but I saw plenty of people ordering drinks from the bar. Walked in here on a Tuesday night and they had phenomenal karaoke going on...I mean, these people were GOOD. Usually I'll try my hand at a song or two, but I just sat back and listened to the true professionals. It's a bit small in here with a few bar seats, and some bar tops. Very Rude bartenders who are LOUD and obnoxious and a very condescending owner who has a Napoleon complex. Always playing some weird cartoons on the TV and doesn't allow people to play the jukebox. Ive been tempted to call @NTS for all the cover band music and playing personal music to override the jukebox. You will have to wait to get a drink here because the staff is to busy talking to their friends. Have been asked to leave the bar a hour before a show starts. Bands get paid poorly because the owner is a tightwad. He does benefit shows and keeps the majority of what he raises. I don't see this bar lasting very long it used to be a cool place which is very sad. Also open drug use is permitted in the bar bathrooms and outside on the patio like we are in a legal state. I was confused about the high reviews, but then realized that most of them were from years ago. This place has some of the rudest and worst bartenders in all of Omaha, to the point where I felt sick even tipping them (which I always tip regardless of treatment because I was in the service industry before). I got yelled at for not walking in with my mask, when I had it in my hand and was about to put it on, I then was ignored and wasn't served(even though I had my mask on at this point), even though my friend that came in with me and wasn't wearing a mask, was served sitting next to me at the bar, without a mask on. I said something about it and she yelled "you know, there are plenty of other bars on Leavenworth that you can go to if you don't like our service" You're right, lady. There are. Don't go to this bar. They over charge, and will literally double charge you if you ask for pineapple juice in your drink, and they are horribly rude. read more

It was a great experience at this bar. My friends and I came on trivia night and although I'm not a big trivia person it brought a good crowd in. The environment is more chill and secluded, hence the name "down under" but still a great bar to sit in and hang out. Great green tea shots and the bartender is super friendly. Went there for the first time on Saturday. 1st there's a ridiculous $10 minimum for cards. When I was told this I figured I'd get 2 drinks nbd. The Bartender told me to leave my card and when I come back for my 2nd beer I can get it and pay. I forgot to get my card and went home. I went back for my card and the manager who had apparently been the one working the bar the night came refused to give me my 2nd beer. Then I get my card and the bill and there's already a tip written on to it. This was not something I had written in. Apparently the managers trying to line his own pockets while offer the rudest service on Leavenworth. This will be the last time I ever go to this bar. Don't waste your money. read more

The Down Under Lounge is undoubtedly my favorite place to start & end a night out in Omaha. It's small & cozy with a plethora of seating options, but it's also easily rearranged to accommodate a slightly more dance-heavy atmosphere. There is no wait-service, but the bar is pretty big & is usually easily accessible. Drink prices are more than fair & they often offer drink specials throughout the week. I love how intimate the stage is with the dance space & seating area- whoever is crooning to you is right up & personal. There's also a piano, speakeasy bar, & pool table in the basement. The basement doesn't normally house large groups, but it does exist for patrons use! I mustn't forget the game area in the back of the bar near the bathrooms. What would otherwise just be an anteroom between the bar & the bathroom has become a home for all the bar games you could imagine. I was sad hear that the Side Door closed, but once I heard the Down Under was taking over the space, all was well. For the Down Under, their new location is a step up in terms of vibe and feel, but it's been "dived down" a bit from the swank confines of the Side Door. Excellent. So expect plenty of cheap beer options alongside micro brew favorites and a good selection of house cocktails. There is live music here several times a week and never a cover. Double excellent. The sound system is top notch and as someone who recently played a gig here, it might be one of the best in the city as far as small venues go. The Down Under Lounge re-launched the Sidedoor Stage Wednesday Night Open Mic tonight and it was EPIC! This is the best Open Mic in Omaha. The artists that came were amazing and the talent was some of the very best Omaha has to offer. The bar was fabulous and the bartenders were talented and friendly. If you don't care much for The Down Under Lounge with the Side Door Stage, that's probably on you. Either you've not been there or you don't like cozy places where friendly, colorful neighbors mix freely with Omaha's relatively young crowd of up-and-coming scenesters, musicians and spoken-word artists. Out front is a busy stretch of Omaha roadway, a bit canyon-like with just enough sidewalk to keep your step lively. It is a rush. The parking situation is kind of tight, but it beats backing out into Leavenworth traffic.There is a large parking lot across South 35th Avenue just to the other side of the Dollar Store by Mother India. If the lot isn't full, approach with caution from the east as smokers may gather by the entrance. Thread that needle with care and once parked, don't let your spot go capriciously. The interior is warm and woodsy. Whether the Side Door Stage is packed or empty, it makes a nice centerpiece. Art for sale adorns the walls and just beyond the Side Door Stage, out the actual side door, one finds a pretty lively beer garden. I went on a Wednesday for one of the most notable features of Down Under: their open mic. Hosted by ISU graduate, musician and Omaha open mic doyen, Aly Peeler, this weekly event spotlighting music and words played, spoken, rapped, "spit" or sung by a diverse crowd of new talents. Watch in live technicolor as new bands are formed. According to Peeler and other locals in the know, the talent train rarely slows at Down Under. Musicians such as Joshua Medlock, Collin Smith, Chris Doolittle and Side Talk, Valerie Electricradbolt, Ben Baldwin, Tiny Monsters, Jocelyn, and Brian & Rowan Curtis perform, grow and partner up around the Side Door Stage. Local and regional acts take the stage on Fridays and Saturdays as well. Down Under has a rotating selection of 45 beers in cans and bottles, six beers on tap (currently featuring Golden Fraü Honey Wheat, Dale's Pale Ale, Stella Artois, Hamm's, Infusion's Radial IPA and Buffalo Sweet Stout) as well as a great assortment of clever cocktails like the Winter, Fall and Strawberry Mules for $6 to $7. If I could put half of a star, I would have done that. First, the drinks are over priced and gross. They are dead on Saturday nights, when people should be there. The music is terrible! Literally the most painful sound to my ears in all my life. It sounds like a punch of children. The open mic night is unorganized and sloppy. The same people play every week and sing basically the same songs. The people there are nasty and don't shower. They will never make it outside of those four walls. Literally, the place is a four by four. I think my bathroom is bigger. Definitely not going there for a good night out. Maybe I'll go there again if I don't want to see other human life and fall asleep. The bathroom never has toilet paper. I think I'd rather stay home with my grandma than go there again.
