I'm not sure how Pageturners has stayed off my radar considering it's certainly my vibe. This inconspicuous space is a Dundee gem. Comfy lounge chairs, dim lit lighting and patterned walls bring in a bit of a prohibition era aesthetic to this joint. The evening we visited there was no live music but the decent size stage nosy in the corner entices me to return for a show. Special recognition to our bartender Derrick - you're a treasure. Drinks were 10 outta 10 and your personality was a 20. Parking is accessible from the back entrance, then you won't miss the beautiful mural upon entering! read more

This place is so inconspicuous that I have passed by it hundreds of times...I finally made the right choice to go in. The bar used to be a bookstore I believe, hence the name. Atmosphere is very laid back. Dimly lit, with bulb lighting, this is a great place to settle in and have a beer with a friend. There's a large TV playing some old indie film usually. It gives off nite owl vibes, but the Dundee version (without the food or the large crowd). There's about 5-6 beers on tap, specials every night, and happy hour every day. Came here for the first time on a cold Monday night, because it was my sister's last night in town, so I'm not surprised that it was pretty dead & there wasn't a lot going on. Would definitely like to come back when there's a show going on or something. The space is very cute & cozy, I love the wainscoting & the the wallpaper & the light fixtures. Feels like an old house. There's a little library nook with a cool vintage couch. However, the lighting was so dark that it was hard to appreciate the design of it all. Accompanied my sister when she went out to smoke on the patio & the heater on the awning was nice. Her friend bought everyone one of these sake in a juice box. Never heard of it before so not sure if they're common or a rare find, but how cute! Overall the experience was good but because it was so dark, kinda quiet & mostly empty, it almost lulled me to sleep. I'll have to check it out another time & give an update. read more

Simple but classic. It's hard to believe this bar used to house hundreds (or thousands) of used books... somewhat suprising that the smell doesn't linger a little, but that's probably the free Tuesday night taco bar's fault. The one and only drink I've had here so far was 'the pageturner'. One of the most bitter cocktails I've had in recent memory - and not in the best way. I'm generally a fan of bitters, but this had a little too much kick. I'm excited to go back and try something else though. As other has mentioned, the sunken bar is really unique, and the swivel lounge chairs were awesome. This would be a great spot to while away some hours during HH. read more

Dimly lit and full of energy, this bar is a classy kind of dive. It's got all the dive feels with some classy traditional furniture and decor. The music here is loud! Either live or stereo- the beat here is quick to awaken the 'night out' spirit within you. Expect a hoarse voice the next day if you plan to converse with friends for a few hours here. Drinks here dabble in both fancier and basic items. We did a titos martini last time and each was $9.5. I've also come for their well known $5 shot/beer special. Friendly staff and always busy. I am a big fan of this place. They support local artists, have a thriving community and great bartenders. Are the drinks a little pricey-er? Yeah, but it's not a dive bar and its 2022. $10 for a cocktail is expected at this point. They have a nice little library area with a couch and some arm chairs and games, and a small patio. Three years after my first review, PTL has earned a spot as one of my favorite bars anywhere. Always good tunes (either over the stereo or live music), nice beer and wine selection, including plenty of cheap-o options alongside classy, elegant cocktails. Try the House Jam for $5 -- a shot of Old Overholt Rye and a can of Tecate. You can't beat that! If there is live music, there's never a cover. Atmosphere is classy and relaxed. Some of the bartenders have a kind of introverted, hands-off approach, opting to spend time talking with friends lingering about rather than entertaining the entire bar. Even so, they are usually at-the-ready to take your order. I'll be back again and again. read more

I love the fact that this was a bookstore that they turned into the bar and that they kept many of the original elements. It definitely has a unique/classy environment. Kind of a hipster vibe. I went in on a Monday after work, so naturally they were not very busy. They have an enormous beer selection, which unfortunately for me, I am not a big beer drinker, but I did enjoy the Rico cocktail. The service was good, and they had a nice small outdoor seating area. I would imagine that parking may be a little bit difficult with a busy weekend crowd, as from what I could tell the only places available were in the back, or, on Dodge Street, so good luck with that. The only thing I didn't like was music. I don't even know how I would categorize it. Maybe alternate alternative? I don't know I just know I hadn't heard it before and wasn't a fan. read more

Great setting, location, cocktails, and lounge atmosphere, with the exception that they blast their background music at a volume as high as 85 dB (as verified by my phone's app), which is roughly the equivalent of being in close proximity to a leaf blower or chainsaw. Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to ambient noise 85 dB or higher can lead to sustained hearing damage, which is not ideal for the chill lounge they seem to be pushing for. 4/5 stars. read more

PTL is one of my favorite bars to go to. the recessed flooring for the bar back makes it comfortable to sit in the lower chairs. You are still eye to eye with the 'tender and sitting comfortably. Great beer selection and a smallish patio to go smoke or vape if you need to. Parking behind is better for me than parking openly on the street. The bartenders are very nice and there is not a huge Hipster vibe. Overall this is a great bar that deserves you to stop in and have some libations. give a fist bump to the barman and grab a drink read more

What a wonderful bar! They have excellent live local performers almost every day of the week, and I can't recommend just one cocktail because they're all pretty fantastic. Pageturner's Lounge is a bar I could see myself becoming a regular at. The older I get, the more I need to know when I go to a bar I will be able to find a seat. Sure it is nice to have good atmosphere, an interesting array of people and good drinks, but for me tables are key. This place had all of that, plus they had a nice aperitif that I had not encountered, dubonnet. They had this wonderful spiced, fortified wine aperitif in a drink called the figure eight. It is composed of bullet rye with dubonnet, orange juice and bitters and tasted like a boozy christmas with it's spicy/orangy flavors. They have more bottled beer then draft, but a good selection of craft beers plus it is always nice to see strongbow cider on the menu. I almost didn't want to post a review, because then I could keep all the tables to myself! read more

Hi I went to this lounge today(Sunday). Probably the most boring bar I have ever visited. No flat screens, no customers and music that could put you to sleep faster than a noise machine. The people were nice(all 4 of them) but the music was from the 30,s. People, slow bartender but nice and it took me a long time to pay a 2 drink tap. She simply forgot about me and helped herself to a few personal shots while I was waiting. Sorry but this place is not the way to go! read more

Pageturners is a pretty cool lounge. It used to be an old bookstore, when I told my mom it was a bar now she wouldn't believe me.....It still retains some of that "library feel" I guess you could call it. Feels like walking back in time into an old building in Dundee where you can imagine old Model Ts or whatever driving past on Dodge Street. Yeah, my time frames are probably not right at all, but deal with it. A couple good craft beers on tap, I wish they had more though. Friendly employees and good service. Decent liquor selection. Awesome seating choices. I love sitting up by the windows on Dodge Street by the piano. Really cool chairs and tables. Cool place, I'll come back. read more

A good mix of patrons, I was there early for a Friday, so I'm not sure how packed it gets later in the night. Less beer selection, and a smaller drink menu in general, although several wines are available. Reasonably priced, strong mixed drinks. All in all, I would say I would come back. I stopped by to meet a friend-- it was 5:15 PM p.m. And there were four customers in the bar. When I walked in I was not even greeted with as much as a hello from the female bartender, who was fully engaged in drinking a shot with two customers and texting. I sat at a table for at least five minutes before I realized that they were not not going to acknowledge me no less than ask me what I want to drink. I decided they were not worthy of my money and I wasn't surprised that there were only four customers in the bar. The terrazzo floors and metal trim on the front door say mid-century, while the nice woodwork and elegant wallpaper say Victorian. But the whole effect is pleasant enough to make this a bar I'll definitely come back to.
