Not sure what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised at the ambiance and atmosphere. Just the right kind light, not bright, not completely dark, a feeling like Harry's in Paris. Their changing cocktail menu insures a new creative treat every time you visit. Decorated in photographs of favorite authors, it was fun to guess who all of them were- alas there is a cheat sheet available to help you along. Great place regardless of your age - there was a great mix of 20's to 60's. Good background music, and at the right level to still dive deep into conversation. Ambiance here is cozy and romantic. Seating is comfortable and not too large but enough space to find seating. The drinks here were creative with the ingredients that were included in each drink but overall was unimpressed with the flavor profile of the 3 different drinks I tried. My first drink seemed a bit unbalanced with the Mezcal and didn't have much other flavor coming through. My second drink was better and I enjoyed the cucumber whip on top but overall was underwhelming. I tried a drink of my friend which she enjoyed but again I wasn't blown away. A very cozy cocktail bar. I'd like to consider this a mirco bar because it is pretty small. I mean, maybe 500 sqft so good luck getting a seat with a big group of friends. The bartender was really accommodating making me a French 75 even though it was not in the menu. They do have a large cocktail list, I was just really craving one and so well done! It is really dark, but the candle lit tables add a little light. There's music but isn't too loud. The drinks are between $10-$13 and I would happily pay it every time. The bartender samples with a straw before serving to ensure they are nice and tasty! Stepping in it feels very prohibition-era which is an interesting feel given how close it is to one of the main streets in town. Friendly and personalized service, awesome playlist, delicious drinks... You've got it all here. There's also just the right volume: you can talk and hear yourself think while also having enough ambient sound to not hear others or worry about them hearing you. The Tijuana Brass is ridiculously good - that cucumber whip is to die for! We also enjoyed all our other drinks, including several off the menu selections courtesy of the very helpful and attentive bartender. It's a great place. We love it and we'll be back. Before all this Coronavirus madness hit the US. Tijuana Brass: Sombra Mezcal, Fresh Lime, Agave Nectar, Cucumber Whip It's like a cucumber and mezcal margarita, served up. Just how I like it. The ice always hurts my teeth, so straight up is the preferred method of delivery of an adult beverage almost every time. The ambiance is dark and moody. For me, it was the Penicillin, a Scotch-based drink topped with a little Islay whisky to add that peat smoke I love so much. Not into cocktails? They have plenty of beer and wine options for you. Next up was their version of Moscow mule, but made with rum. Also super tasty. At $10 a drink, they're pricey but strong and delicious. Both bartenders were really friendly and helpful. The decor was welcoming and made me feel like I was tucked into a friend's library. All that was missing was a fireplace. Both the inside and outside were pretty small, but intimate. My wife brought my here for my birthday 6/29. This was our second time here. We drove all the way from 204th and maple to find out they were having a late opening. The bartender very nicely advised this and let us know we are free to wait inside however it would be a short wait until he could get to the drinks. It was like a 100 degrees outside and I found that to be awesome letting us hang out in the cold ac and look at the menu even though not technically open for business. Drinks were awesome, service was awesome, cleanliness of the inside was awesome. My wife and I were not impressed. We went today at opening time (4/18/24 @ 3 pm). Aaron seemed pretty disinterested in our presence, even though we were the only ones there, and in the hour we spent at the place, there were two other paying customers other than us. He couldn't make a bourbon recommendation until I drug one out of him. He spent most of his time doing something on his smart phone (texting?, cruising the internet?, while pretty much ignoring us almost the entire time we were there. Basically, he did a good job indicating to us that he could care less about us. When I mentioned to him that we had received a recommendation to try the place out from someone we know in North Platte that had patronized the Inkwell while in town visiting his son, no response from Aaron came (no great, no glad you came, no nothing). Other negatives: shots are pretty expensive, no food (except airplane sized bags of almonds and assorted chips (I would think a larger selection of snacks would entice people to buy more drinks?), I had to ask for a list of bourbons they sometimes stock (after I said I would just look on their website), but no indication of which ones they had in stock and which they didn't, no description of any bourbon on the list, no pricing on the list, and a so-so atmosphere. One positive: I liked the big ice cube served in the whiskey glass. All in all, I give this place 1 star, and I do not recommend you waste your time or money at the Inkwell. read more
