I was at Grand Central Market and was walking around when I saw this cute little donut shop. It was calling for me so I gave in and bought half a dozen donuts. I got mostly chocolate based and they did not disappoint. I like that they werent sweet at all. They were still good the next day but not after 2 days. I will definitely buy again if I happen to be here. The guy at the counter taking our order wasnt too friendly. He had the vibe that he didnt want to be there and just couldnt wait to go home. As for the prices, they werent too bad. I will definitely be back again.
1. The strawberry donut was delicious and flavorful! It was not too sweet! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes since it is part of a market! 3. The staff was friendly and timely with my order! It was ready in 5 mins! 4. There are a lot of tables nearby! 5. Street parking and garage is available! Note: There is a restroom area in the basement area! Stopped by The Donut Man around 8 pm on a Saturday for dessert after dinner. I agree with other reviewers that the donuts closer to closing time are not fresh. During this time, workers were still working on their famous strawberry donuts. The strawberry sauce looked a little too sweet on top of an already sweet donut, so I skipped out on it. It also seemed a bit messy. I shared a tiger tail and a sprinkle donut with my husband. The tiger tail tasted like a glaze donut with some cinnamon. I liked this one and would try it again during the day on my next visit. The sprinkle donut which is usually my go to for donut shops was a little dry. Again, I think the quality suffers as it gets closer to the evening , but I'm willing to give them another shot if I'm in the area.
My Grand Central Market foodie adventures is coming to an end and after trying multiple vendors,including tacos,burgers,pupusas,ice cream,& beer-we decided to try one last thing before we left-I figured I would continue my never ending quest to find the best Maple Bar in the world-I headed straight for The Donut Man booth and checked out what they had to offer. I'm not from the area so I was not familiar with this vendor but I guess they have been around for quite some time,like 50 years in business,so I guess they are held in pretty good regard. I was pretty impressed with their storefront as they displayed many beautiful donuts available for purchase-highlighted by their famous fresh strawberry donuts-the donut that put The Donut Man on the map. But I wasn't here for that-I'm here for the Maple Bar and the Maple Bar only so that's what I got ($2.65) On the plus side-that truly was one of the biggest maple bars I've ever ordered. On the down side-it wasn't that great-not sure if it was sitting out a bit or maybe just wasn't as fresh as I hoped but it was just a tick below average so like a 4.9/10 maple bar-talk about bummer. That being said-I'm 95% sure if I had just tried what they are famous for,the fresh strawberry donut,I would be singing an entirely different tune....next time I guess. In closing-if u ever find yourself at Grand Central Market and have an urge to try a donut at The Donut Man-I would recommend skipping the enormously large Maple Bar and going for the fresh Strawberry Donut-I think you will have a better experience than I did-Stay Safe Out There.

They had a wide variety of donuts available. I was able to get my order quickly. Would definitely come back and try something else. There was seating outside which was nice.
The fresh strawberry donut was absolutely delightful! And though $7.50 is a bit steep compared to other LA donut spots, it was a great dessert to split between two people after enjoying other foods at Grand Central Market. Would love to come back and try a couple of the other kinds of donuts!
My Angeleno friend told me about LA donut culture, so of course, we had to get some donuts in LA! We were visiting Grand Central Market and came across The Donut Man's giant display of fresh donuts. The mountain of fresh strawberries piled on a donut caught my eye (I love me some fresh strawberries!) We ordered their world famous fresh strawberry donut ($7.50), a chocolate old-fashioned donut ($2.30), and a tiger tail ($3.75). The fresh strawberries on the donut were delightful. They were coated in a glaze to add to the sweetness. Unfortunately, the donut itself did seem to be undercooked/raw on the bottom. The dough was so wet and mushy, I actually thought it was a "strawberries and cream" situation... but as it turns out, the "cream" was actually just raw dough. I would say the tiger tail is the best value. It's a long tail (over a foot long) and twisted with their classic and chocolate cake flavors. I did find it to be dry - it was not my favorite. Their chocolate old-fashioned hit all the classic, old-fashioned notes - slightly crispy exterior, and soft and cakey interior. Plus, chocolate icing ;). Overall, the donuts here were good, but not great.
Most creative, best looking, and not over-sweetened donuts ever! Fresh strawberry donut is a must try! Lemon custard donut is my second favorite! Even glazed one tastes great! Service was good and fast.

I honestly had pretty low expectations as I had seen pictures and after seeing it in person felt pretty underwhelmed. It kind of just looked like a glazed doughnut with strawberries - pretty messy to eat and nothing special. However, after trying it, I can honestly say that the hype is worth it. The line to order was pretty long, but moved quickly. While one member of our party waited, we were able to go to other stands and get food so it worked out. They also have fresh peach donuts and huge cinnamon rolls that look really good. The strawberry doughnut itself is actually incredible. There is absolutely no artificial strawberry flavor and it is very very fresh. The strawberries themselves taste straight from the garden, some of the sweetest strawberries you'll ever taste coated in a fresh strawberry glaze. The doughnut was also incredible, just a fresh glazed donut. The dough was light and fluffy, and it wasn't overly sweet at all. This pastry honestly surpassed my expectations, and (coming from an initial cynic) I can confidently say that it's worth the hype. Definitely try it out!
This is one of the vendors inside the super busy, touristy, Grand Central Market. Expect a lot of foot traffic when coming here. I like mentioning parking in most of my reviews and there is a lot parking -- paid parking. There is parking garage across the street $20 for 60 mins) Good luck finding street parking here although I don't recommend it. I like to call myself a donut connoisseur and the donuts here are definitely in my Top 5. And yes, I will travel 6 hours from the Bay Area to visit Grand Central Market just to stand in a long line full of tourists for a maple bar, Tiger Tail, and French cruller. The good news, the lines goes fast. The donuts are fresh and you can even watch the workers making them it while you're in line. Worth the stop when you're in DTLA. Fast service and delicious donuts.
This location of Donut Man is at the Grand Central Market. I have been to their original location and found the original location to be more superior. Their other location is more efficient working the line. I felt like the line wasn't even long but it took a while to move. The case was completely full around 2:45pm. I'm not sure how fresh those were by the afternoon. I had one of the Maple Glazed Raised Round ($2.30) and my boyfriend ordered a few other things. They threw it in a bag and got the donuts touching and the glaze was sticking all over each other. Not exactly best practices with donuts. The donut was not as fresh and tasty as I'd like. Maybe they premade a lot and it wasn't as fresh by the time I got there. And a lot of my glaze was rubbed off. The glaze is my favorite part. I like the business but I feel like this visit was particularly subpar. I think I'll stick to the original location.
We showed up 15 minutes til closing after some ice skating! Location in grand market. Donuts were delicious but unfortunately weren't boxed correctly so they were all stuck together. Great prices for big ol' baddies!
I heard so much about The Donut Man over the years, I finally made it down here to pick up a box. Not sure how long this location has been here at the Central Market in DTLA, but I was happy that it was here since the original location is much further drive from my home. I picked up two of each fresh strawberry and fresh peach, which are seasonal donuts. Let me tell you, it's worth the hype and price. Normal I'm not a donut fan, I'd rather have an everything bagel with cream cheese. But man, these donuts are the bomb. I'm glad The Donut Man isn't close to where I live. If you love donuts, and even if you don't....this is a must! read more

DONUT HOLE-IN-THE-WALL! The Donut Man is a legend within Grand Central Market. It's known for its rich flavors, vegan offerings, and speedy service. I stopped by for a quick dessert and picked up a chocolate donut with chocolate sprinkles. I'm still in love with this place, it's stood the test of time. I can verify that the donuts are just as good as when I had them as a kid. I scanned the racks through their little observation windows, selected a bite and was quickly at checkout. I popped in on a Wednesday night and there was NO line. The dude at the counter was a little exhausted, but he was calm. I've had good experiences here. I want to try their coffee next time, all these years and it's still on my to-do list! read more
Finally tried Donut Man's famous strawberry donut! It was overflowing with glazed strawberries so I had to eat it with a knife and fork. At first bite, it was too sweet. I gave it some time and then took another bite and it was fine. The filling is like what you'd get in a pie. It does overwhelm the donut though. I'm kind of bummed that I didn't get another donut to get a better taste of their donuts. Their strawberry donut is seasonal, so it's not always available. They do have a fresh peach donut when stone fruit season starts, which looks terrific! You can also watch the donuts being made, which is fun! read more

The legendary donut shop The Donut Man finally opened a second location in the Grand Central Market in June 2020. [Parking]: Grand Central Market has a designated parking garage - $5.50 flat rate for 90-minute parking with each additional 15 minutes = $2 ($40 daily maximum). [Process]: The waiting line wasn't too bad and our party only waited about 5 minutes on Saturday noon. [Menu]: The Yelp top highlighted donut is Tiger Tail Donut, but the donut shop is best known for the Strawberry Donut (seasonal item from late January to early October) and the Peach Donut (seasonal item from mid or late July to mid or late August). Please check The Donut Man's IG for status of these seasonal items. *** Tiger Tail ($3.75) & Strawberry Donut ($7.50): I actually a fan of Tiger Tail as it had the right amount of sweetness. Strawberry Donut tasted good, but personally the donut had too much glaze on strawberries. *** A good spot for anyone who wants to try the famous Strawberry Donut without having to drive all the way to Glendora on Route 66. read more
Located in Grand Market food hall. With a huge case and wall of donuts, you can see what you get. The fresh strawberry donut was good because of the fresh strawberries but I think the donut that they had with it was a little too undercooked and raw for me. The strawberries were great and lightly glazed so not too overpoweringly sweet. The donut definitely did not do it justice. The tiger tail was absolutely delicious, probably my favorite of the three. The chocolate donut and then the fresh strawberry donut but that's because of the undercooked/raw dough. read more
First thing in the morning and they have a beautiful display of colorful donuts. They have together tails and HUGE cinnamon rolls. The original was very light and airy. The red velvet wasnt packed with a lot of flavor.. kind of bland like now alot of cocoa powder and vanilla extact. The old old fashion had a perfect balance of textures. The outside was crunchy and the middle was so soft. Regardless of which location for the donut man, you wont be disappointed. read more
The Donut Man is a popular donut shop in So Cal; they are known for its fresh, handmade donuts, especially the seasonal strawberry and peach donuts stuffed with real fruit, and the year-round tiger tail. Originally from Glendora, it has expanded to a location in Los Angeles's Grand Central Market. I rarely eat junk sugary pastry but today is the day I cheat. My Glazed donut was my go to flavored donut. And it was soft, sweet and love the crystal glazed appearance. One bite and you're hooked. I like the variety of donuts they have and the prices were oohhhlala economically competitive. Staff were competent. And their greetings were warm albeit perfunctory. Overall, I enjoyed my last bloody donut of 2025. Now, it's time to hit the gym. read more

I absolutely love the donuts from Donut Man!!! So decadent and uniquely flavorful. Always fresh and soft. I've never had a bad donut here and I've been adventurous with their seasonal donuts. Definitely worth the long distance fee if you're ordering delivery. Highly recommend The Donut Man when craving delicious donuts!!! read more
Tried to give the Donut Man another try and same outcome as before!! Only a bunch of bees have now entered the chat! I mean lots of bees! It's crazy that they chose the part of the market that's closer to the outdoors because the last few times I've come, they were almost infested with them i swarming around inside of the donut case! Bees along with quite a few flies! The last time I came, I came with out of towners who had never tried them, and insisted on trying the strawberry stuffed donut and the tiger tail! Instagram had them in their pocket lol! Well it was a sad day because tho there were less bees, (the person who took our order said the bees come as a result of the delicious fruits) the donuts were a bust! The strawberry donut had a medicine/canned glaze taste, the strawberries were far from sweet or delicious, and the tiger tail just wasn't fresh tasting! Waving my white give up flag on the Donut man because they've consistently been a disappointment and a big waste of money every time I've come. read more

The Donut Man exceeded my expectations! I had heard great things about it, but it was even better than I imagined. The famous strawberry-filled donut was absolutely amazing. I'm not usually a huge strawberry fan, but this donut completely changed my mind. The fresh strawberries paired with the sweet jelly filling made every bite worth it. It was so good that I ended up going back for more after trying it the first time. I also tried the Tiger Tail, lemon blueberry donut, and apple-filled donut, and they were all delicious. Honestly, I only ended up taking one photo because the donuts were THAT good I was too busy eating them! But it did get some before videos. There was a line when I arrived, but the wait wasn't bad at all. The staff were friendly, attentive, and constantly working to keep up with orders while making fresh donuts and other sweets. If you're visiting from out of town like I was, I highly recommend making a stop here. The strawberry filled donut alone is worth the trip. Great service, fresh products, and an overall fantastic experience. I'll definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area. Very clean, welcoming, small but a cozy vibe. I enjoyed being there even with a line, I was so amazed by looking at the donuts that I didn't mind the line. read more

I'm glad we live 40 miles away from the donut shop because they are addictive. The server was so nice and patient and went over some of the flavors which made it easier to choose. read more
I had the strawberry-filled donut, apple-filled donut, and tiger tail. All the donuts were a soft fluffy dough with a sugary glaze. The strawberry was fresh, sweet, and very generous in portion size. The apple filling was similarly fresh & sweet; the apple-filled donut tasted like a twist on apple pie. The tiger tail was giant & provided a nice contrast of eating an actual donut (the other two I felt like I was mostly eating fruit with a side of donut). I ordered delivery via DoorDash so cannot comment on ambiance or wait time. I was in meetings all day for a conference and really wish I had the chance to eat these warm. But having them for dessert later on in the day was still delicious! read more

Wow, these donuts are very different from the kind from mom & pop shops (which I love). The dough is very substantial but not heavy. The best part is that it is not heavily fried and the glaze is pretty light too so it is not too sweet. For those that have eaten Taiwanese breakfast, the dough almost tastes like a "you tiao". I got the strawberry because that's what they're known for. The strawberries are fresh and it is good, but I personally don't like fruit pies or any added sugar onto fruits. Definitely the unique offering at Donut Man though. The PB&J donut was DELICIOUS. Not too sweet and well filled with this peanut butter and jelly filling. The service was decent & standard. A very busy place as you can imagine due to its location but it's on the edge of the Grand Central Market so it doesn't feel too cramped. read more

I stopped by this donut shop which is located in a bustling food court mall in downtown L.A. around 8 p.m so maybe this review won't fully capture their daytime quality. I tried a regular glazed donut, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed. After one bite, I had to toss the rest. it just wasn't fresh and didn't have that satisfying taste I was craving. I was really excited to end my dinner with a nice dessert, but it just fell flat. It might just be a timing issue since they probably bake early, but either way, I wasn't impressed, and I won't be going back for donuts. read more

Located inside Grand Central Market, the line was nonstop during lunchtime, service moved quickly and the shelves stayed fully stocked. Coffee is available. I tried the coconut-topped donut and the strawberry one. Both were fresh and made for the perfect dessert. Ambiance was lively and busy. read more
The Baseline: For a donut shop the flavor of donuts must out-weigh the taste of pure sugar, the yeastiness/cake-ness of the donut must be a good consistency, there must be unique/rare offerings that drive me to go there, and the value of the desert must be balanced with the fact I probably just finished a meal. Food: There was a point and time in life that the world did not have donuts. It was a dark time where cooked dough and sugar glazes did not know each other and that was not a good time in history. The donuts at The Donut Man truly helps correct that dark era of history. #1 Fresh Peach Donut - get it-eat it- love it... all in that order. #2 Fresh Apple Donut - get it-eat it-love it... recognize the pattern of what to expect. #3 The Chocolate bar is the basis of understanding the love, because that is how I noticed the yeast quality that came out in the dough and while I may be dealing with a very sweet chocolate glaze top it matches the mellowness of the dough. So follow the formula: Get donut - Eat Donut - Love Donut. The dark times have ended. Service: Great service because Step #1: Get Donut. Also the staff are serving and working hard with a friendly demeanor. Ambiance: Grand Central Market vibes and bustle makes for a good donut hustle. I have no real clue what that means but GCM is a fun spot to get a donut. read more
Not certain the fresh strawberry donut was worth $7 or not, and they didn't have a single powdered donut. So get ready to get in line because there was a constant line the entire time I was here. As you're moving through the line, you get to see the baker making donuts, then the decorator decorating donuts, and the racks of donuts before you get to the counter where you order and pay. Not much ambiance. It's a donut assembly line. I got a glimpse of the menu and prices on the wall that is posted behind the counter, so I knew the price of a single donut starts at $2.25 each. I ordered a freshly baked strawberry donut and small coffee. Free refills for the coffee, by the way. There's milk at the counter. Service at the counter was friendly. I requested a different donut than the one staff grabbed. He told me, "There's no difference," but if that were the case, then don't mention it and give me the other donut, which he did. The difference was that the donut he grabbed looked like it had less strawberries, and it looked ugly. I found a table and enjoyed the experience of eating my donut and drinking my coffee. It's a split glazed donut stuffed with strawberries and strawberry flavored glaze. The strawberries taste super fresh and the donut as well. The donut was moist, not dry at all. read more
The Donut Man's original location is off Route 66 in Glendora, about an hour east of Los Angeles. They were viral for their strawberry donuts in the 2000's, in an era before things went viral. Though I've been to the Glendora location several times, I'm glad that they have this higher profile location at Grand Central Market! Their famous strawberry donut is not anything fancy: they take a glazed donut, they cut it open, and they stuff it with glazed, fresh strawberries as if the donut was a Thanksgiving Turkey. It's simple and it's delicious. Is it worth $7? When it's strawberry season and I'm craving it, then it absolutely is. The Donut Man's other top seller is their tiger tail which is a glazed twist with some cinnamony goodness. It's over a foot long and it's delicious when it's fresh. The donuts aren't fancy and they're pretty straightforward, but they're good. If they didn't have the strawberry doughnut, then my rating would be different. That said - come here for that. read more

We decided to swing by to grab a couple a donuts before the ska show up in the California Plaza. Geez there were bees trying to get at those donuts! . Anyways we got a strawberry & a peach which we had the strawberry first & it was pretty good the strawberry's tasted fresh & super juicy! (We saved the peach ). The glazed donut it came in was good too I was glad we tried them but I wouldn't stand on a really long line for them though. I do recommend trying them out for sure though!. The overall service is great, the staff who helped me was very nice. The donuts were generally good, but I struggled with thinking whether the donuts were a bit too sweet (glazed), because the sweeter, the tastier, but that is going to SPIKE your blood sugar levels so enjoy with moderation. This is located towards the broadway side of GCM. GCM itself has quite the old school open market ambience. You kind of have to get used to it, as it can get quite busy, stuffy, and crowded, but that's the footprint of GCM. read more
Tried the tiger tail & it's so long, the bread is fluffy, and just great texture. I like how you're able to watch them make & glaze the donuts! I need to come back & try other items. I'm not a big fan of the strawberry jam in general so I did not try it but their popular strawberry filled donuts are stacked with strawberries read more
Wellllll the plan wasn't to get a donut but I couldn't resist after seeing the beautiful display. Had to try what they're famous for so I got the strawberry stuffed "donut". When I opened the box, I was surprised to see an additional glazed donut in there too! A two-fer! Sweet!! Speaking of sweet- the strawberries are super sweet & glazed or dipped in what tastes like liquid sugar. The donut itself is definitely a treat and tasted like a very soft funnel cake sans the grease & powdered sugar. Next time I'm in the hood I'll try their other donuts! read more

Yes, everyday during their strawberry season. Wait varies depending on day of week and time of day. I personally like to go close to opening to reduce wait times

The Glendora location is open 24/7. The Grand Central Market location is open every day from 8AM-9PM.
