We just finished a four-week board and train with Carson at The Dog Knowledge. Worth every penny! Not going to lie - the first couple weeks were rough on us, not him. We missed him like crazy and worried about how he was feeling. Dennis actually had us come in halfway through, showed us what Carson had been learning, and said something that I keep thinking about: Carson wasn't missing us. Not because he doesn't love us, but because dogs live in the now. He was busy, focused, doing his thing. We felt so much better after that. Carson came home happy and calm and confident. He understood the rules and felt good about it. And he wasn't (as our son put it) a "bot" now - he was the same sweet and goofy pup but now, he could follow instructions and maintain self control when we needed him to. The staff were also straight with us about the fact that he'd have setbacks. That's normal. They spent a lot of time explaining what you do when it happens. In fact, they spent almost an entire day with all the families at graduation - going over what the dogs learned, getting you hands on practicing how to do it, answering questions, and really teaching a ton of helpful information. We're about to set up our in-home training visit, which will be for all of us, including our three kids - really great to get everyone aligned with Carson's training. The Dog Knowledge is fantastic! We are members now and plan to board our dog with them whenever we go on vacation. I cannot imagine trusting any place like we trust them. read more

Not only were we impressed with how much she learned but we have been amazed by the on going continuity The Dog Knowledge provides. We have had a home visit and refresher session. They show they are truly interested in our puppy's on going success and we feel very supported going forward even though our 4 week session is completed. In addition they provide day care and boarding which has been amazing as well as we know everyone there and trust them much more than other boarding facilities we have used. I put a $300 deposit down for the 4 week class & a few weeks after I had a job change that also changed my financial situation. As the sole breadwinner in my family, I decided I could not afford to send my puppy through the class & asked for another training option (like maybe a few classes with a trainer) or a refund - at least 4 weeks before the class was to begin. I was told there were no other options and there were also no refunds. Really Disappointing for a service I did not use, and will not use when my financial situation changes given the many other dog training options available in the CLT area. We were at the end with our puppy. The morning we went to The Dog Knowledge for evaluation, we caught her hanging from the drapes by her teeth and trying to pull them down. Phoebe is a loving dog but she is a tornado. Full of energy and ready to destroy the house. Long story short, she's still full of energy and she is still trying to chew on anything that she can reach, BUT... we now have the tools to work with her. Four weeks at their place and Phoebe now understands several commands and as her humans, we do too. "No" and "Place" and "No" and "Heel" and "No" and especially, "Yes." If we use the right words we learned at graduation - Phoebe is under control. And thank goodness for the post-graduation on-site visit a few days later because we weren't using the commands right. We're learning. It's on us to "No" immediately and "Yes" when she does something right and provide a treat. We decided to join the membership and that provides unlimited retraining on Sundays. We enrolled our 4 year old black lab Ghillie in The Dog Knowledge Obedience training course and are very pleased with both the results as well as our experience with the staff and "parent training!" We sent Ghillie away to a trainer when she was 8 months old and while the trainer was good, we figured out later about 75% of the trainer's focus was field trial training and 25% obedience. Ghillie is not even close to a field trial lab and over time we realized we would all benefit from a different "positive" approach. The Dog Knowledge has proved to be exactly what she, and I imagine what all dogs destined to be loving family dogs, needed for training. She no longer pulls on a leash, walks at our heel when told and is getting better and better at "place"- a relief for our sofa's and a welcome change from being underfoot while preparing meals. We learned a great deal at "Graduation" where Dennis and company work with parents on all the commands and we left feeling very comfortable with our role in Ghillie's continued reinforcement of her new behavior knowledge. In addition, there is a great talk at graduation on how dogs think and learn, and while we have had labs for many years, we still learned a great deal. Finally, after graduation we had our two week "home visit" where one of the trainers comes to your home to simply review everything with you and answer any and all questions you have over the past two weeks. Dennis came out and was very patient as we asked questions and practiced again in front of him while he gave us many insightful pointers. It was a great reinforcement for us and the fun part was how excited Ghillie was to see Dennis! We would recommend The Dog Knowledge to anyone with a dog- young or older- who wants to have a well behaved companion -without having fear based training take away their spirit check out The Dog Knowledge for themselves. We had a fantastic experience with Dog Knowledge. Our English Cream retriever completed the four week training session and we noticed a night and day difference after returning! Of course the month without her was difficult, but we received weekly progress reports and plenty of pictures so we could see what she was learning and how she was doing. The leash skills for walking were the most helpful so our daughters could walk her without being pulled and tugged. Everyone there is so friendly, and Dennis is incredibly talented with animals! Watching him work with Molly was impressive. We plan to continue to use the daycare and boarding facility so she has a place to go that she recognizes and feels comfortable with for play and daycare as needed. We sent our 15 month old pup to the 4 week basic training program. They were able to adhere to his feeding and medication routine. We received weekly updates and photos which was awesome! When we arrived for "graduation" we were so impressed by what our pup could do but even more impressed with the expertise of the trainers there. They were incredibly knowledgeable. We were worried our dog would be sad, but immediately could see how much love and affection he was receiving in addition to the amazing training. We were also worried he would return a robot, but we can say for sure that he is absolutely still himself. The real hard work for us comes now that he is home. We have been working to reinforce his training. He's a regressed a bit since being home, but they said that was to be expected and to keep at the training. We're looking forward to our in home training session next week! My one piece of feedback and that we were never invited to have a tour to see the grounds. Took our golden mix, Bogey, in for the month long training camp. My 45 Lb 5 month old puppy was great a lot of the time, but other times would jump and nip and was just becoming unmanageable for me. Their system of training really seems to work and my now 57 Lb puppy seems to have matured. He used to get the zoomies every night at 7 pm. Now we can hang out together and watch TV at night with a down command and rewards for good behavior. He's been home now for four days and is still behaving nicely. He was captured by CMPD from a horrific environment with very little human interaction, no food, and used as a bait dog. We somewhat spontaneously got a 6-month-old "puppy" (Bailey) and were immediately overwhelmed! We had had a dog previously but got her when she was a year and a half old. The puppy was a new experience for us. We knew we needed some professional help and researched and met with numerous trainers. We were referred to Dog Knowledge by someone in our neighborhood and given how impressed we've always been with this dog's behavior knew we needed to speak with them. We had a consultation with Debbie and really appreciated the time and approach she took. We were confident Dog Knowledge was the way to go and were able to get Bailey started within a couple weeks. During the four weeks we reached out a few times with questions, etc and Dennis, the main operator/trainer, was very responsive to our questions. The "graduation" experience was great. You got to learn more about dog behavior, the training methods they use, and see your "pup" and trainer demonstrate. Then you get to work with your dog and trainer to learn your piece, which is so important. Also, like most people we were worried that our dog would forget us after being away for four weeks - that was NOT the case, Bailey was super excited to see us immediately once we were able to engage with him. I had an incident where the place I lived all the sudden did not allow my puppy there (not because of behavioral issues but because of age) and would not budge, I called EVERYWHERE and TDK said they didn't take pups under 16 weeks...but the owner Debbie (sometimes) takes puppies out to her farm. My pup was out there for 3 weeks and I know it was the best thing I could've possibly done for her. Getting to run out on their acreage and also get some training was a dream come true, and I always had peace of mind. I would get video and picture updates, and always felt comfortable texting Debbie asking for updates or for any questions. When my pup got older (around 6 months) I brought her to the 4 week basic training at the facility. When I dropped her off, they knew my name and my dogs name!! The first couple nights I of course felt so nervous about leaving her there, but I knew she was being cared for well. I loved getting the weekly updates with pictures. Those 4 weeks go by so fast!! The training class my pup was part of was a little too big and TDK offered an early graduation. Because I picked her up a couple days early, they provided a free place bed, a training collar, a leather leash, a long lead, and more! This place is seriously amazing and clearly cares about not only the dogs their training, but also the humans that are their customers. I had my Dog Jackson trained , here in November. I could not be more pleased with the results. Every staff member I have interacted at Dog Knowledge are welcoming and Dennis is amazing and extremely knowledgeable! The Dog Knowledge is best decision we've made for our Cavapoo puppy, Willow. I reached out to The Dog Knowledge based on a colleague's recommendation because I needed some training guidance with our new puppy. I was connected with Debbie Lange, the owner, and she suggested that I come in for a temperament evaluation the next day - I think she could sense that I was overwhelmed in my voice. Puppies are very overwhelming! Debbie gave me a lot of insights on puppies and what would be realistic expectations for a dog so young. She gave me some simple tips on how to reward the behavior I want from Willow and tips on crate and potty training. Since the youngest they take dogs for training is 5 months, I had some time to work on those recommendations in the meantime. Even with those simple tips, I saw a huge difference in Willow. When her training day arrived, I was excited because I knew she would build a great foundation for obedience. I thought 4 weeks with Willow away would be hard to get through but it went by fast, especially with the regular updates on Willow from the training staff, as well as all the posts on social. When graduation came, the difference was so clear. Willow was focused and had perfect manners. (And no, she didn't forget about us - she was beyond excited to see her family again!) The trainers were so great with my whole family during our own training at the graduation. My 6 year old son was able to command heeling and place. Walks with Willow are so enjoyable now - no more pulling or crazy zig-zags. She learned how to heel, match my pace, and auto-sit when I stop. She even stays in command until I release her. Obedience training isn't a one-and-done event, it's on-going and The Dog Knowledge is there for you even after your dog's 4 weeks of basic training is done. They offer free refresher training days twice a month that can help you keep consistent with training. The Dog Knowledge's training facility is quite amazing, it's clean and literally a paradise for dogs. Everyone at The Dog Knowledge truly cares about your dog and it shows. She was always nervous around other humans which made me initially nervous, but here she immediately liked one of the trainers and after her training she was so much happier and calmer around strangers. I was hesitant to post something immediately, until I was able to observe the results from our dogs 4 week training session. I must say after a month now, I am impressed and such a strong believer in the program. I highly recommend this for all families with puppies, especially those with younger children.
