My experience with Camp Bow Wow Matthews was unacceptable, resulting in injury to my 10-month-old puppy and a complete failure of service on a follow-up visit. Incident 1: Unauthorized Procedure Resulting in Injury On his first visit, my 10-month-old puppy was subjected to an unauthorized nail trim that I did not request or approve. When I picked him up, his toenails had been cut down below the quick on multiple toes and were bleeding profusely. This indicates a severe lack of care and training, compounded by performing a painful procedure without owner consent. I complained to the staff immediately about the pain and distress this caused my puppy. Incident 2: Mismanagement of Play and Unapproved Confinement Despite the initial injury, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and brought him back. I picked him up to find he had been isolated and crated for the final three hours of the day. The staff claimed this was because he was "targeting a puppy." I reviewed the video footage they provided and confirmed that the behavior they labeled as "targeting" was clearly rough, energetic play--not aggression. For a professional daycare facility, misinterpreting normal puppy play and confining him for three hours instead of actively managing the group or separating him into a smaller, supervised area shows a complete lack of necessary skill and accountability. The combination of causing a preventable, unauthorized injury and then failing to provide the core service (socialization and supervised play) demonstrates a serious lack of professional care and judgment. I requested a full refund for both failed services. I strongly advise other pet owners to find a different facility that prioritizes the safety, accurate behavior assessment, and well-being of your dog. read more

I have used various camp Bow Wow locations, but this location has become my primary whenever I have to board my pups locally as this facility accepts dogs under 10# (not all locations accept under 10#). The process is typical for Camp Bow Wow of requiring new-camper interview prior to board/day camp. The interview process requires the pawrent to stay at the facility approx. 30 minutes while your pups' temperament/socialization skills are evaluated. If given the green light, pup is required to stay for a few hours of play. Staff is very helpful and caring towards the pups. They are also very efficient with the check-in/out processes. The facility seems clean and well -organized. There is an adjacent parking lot. Reservations and sharing records is now very easy via the Camp Bow Wow app, which also allows you to view your pups while they are in the playrooms and establish reservations with any of the camp Bow Wow locations. This location is quite a drive for me, but I have yet to find any other place who I trust to care for my precious pups when I have to be away for several days! read more

I've been brining Lou here for almost a year and a half. He's boarded here I would say at least five times. He's also had about three hair groomings as well. My experience has always been great here. The front desk staff are all friendly and easy to talk to. It's always been easy to schedule drop offs and pickups. There have never been any unexpected surprise charges or anything like that. I love that the staff here ask questions about how to care for Lou but are not overkill when asking about his needs. I've been other locations and they insisted on going through a long questionnaire with me every visit on specifics about his care. And I'm the type of owner and Lou is the type of dog that it's like look - we're easy! Feed him, keep him safe and tell him he's a good boy. We'll both be happy! I do fully recommend this location for boarding or hair trimming. They have been great. read more

My dog has been going here for a few years since I adopted her in 2013. The first thing that drew me to this place is they have no breed restrictions. This is important to me because I have a rescue pittie. I cannot say enough about this place. I have recommended them to others. They treat my dog wonderfully and the service is always impeccable. The first impression, obviously, is the front desk staff when you go in. They are always friendly, know who my dog is and respectful. My dog isn't kept in a run or kennel, but in a room/outdoor area where she is constantly interacting with other dogs. Seriously, I cannot say enough about this place. Front desk staff needs to get there act together. Had an early appointment for an interview. The day prior, staff person confirmed via phone call and email that they had all of our dog's vaccination records and app and that we were ready to go! That's good since they had been sent in 2 weeks sooner. We get to the appointment and they tell us that she can't go through the interview because she hasn't had her distemper and we need to reschedule for another week out. What!!?? They couldn't have done that when they first received the records? Why did I get a phone call and speak to the staff member telling me we were ready to go? Not happy with their service at the front desk. If it this much hassle to board our dog, then what is their boarding like? Not a positive experience at all. By the way, according to our vet, due to our dogs age a distemper shot is not required and there is a medical letter on file that states that. Camp Bow Wow will not accept that. read more

My girl loves Camp Bow Wow Matthews! She runs and jumps on the door ready to go play without a backward glance. I love that you can watch the campers on video, they are put in different yards according to size of dog. They do interviews to keep out mean dogs. They have access to an outside area. My girl has stayed overnite too. The camp counselors are very friendly and truly love dogs. I want to work here when I retire. Whenever a camper goes Big Potty you see the counselor go immediately pick it up. read more

Very nice staff and very accommodating. to our schedule. We've left our dog there several times and she's always excited to go back. She gets a lot of activity and is exhausted the next day. I wouldn't call it a negative, but I think it needs to be mentioned that she has come back with a cold a couple of times, but nothing serious. *** This may be a long review, but it's worth reading if you're thinking of taking your dog to this facility *** Camp Bow Wow sees dogs as a dollar sign and not as loving pets that us customers pay them a LOT of money to take care of when we are busy away at work. At first, Camp Bow Wow seemed like a great choice for my dog. I took him there for daycare at least twice a week, without any problems, for about a month. Then one day, I decided we'd try out their grooming service and get my dog a bath while he was there during his stay. They instructed me that he would get his bath about an hour before I arrived to pick him up that evening. The first bath he ever received there - AMAZING. His fur smelled good, he came running out with a bandana around his neck, he was very clean. At this point, I thought "Okay, now I've found a good groomer." Boy, was I wrong! The second time he had a bath there, he came out (with no bandana on) and he smelled like a wet dog - no good smelling puppy spray this time. So I voiced my concern. The lady at the front desk said to me "Well our groomer is out today, so it was probably just a camp attendant that did his bath for him." UNACCEPTABLE. I paid for a groomer to bathe him, not an unqualified team member. Clearly my concerns grew about this place, but I decided to give them one last chance.... My dog went off to daycare as usual that day (10AM) and I paid for a bath to be given to him at about 5PM because I would be picking him up at 6PM. They said to me "Well let me find out if the groomer has time for him today and I'll give you a call back." I said okay and I left him for daycare, fully expecting a call throughout the day. 2PM rolls around and there's still no call. So I called the front desk to ask if he would be getting a bath. They replied "Oh yeah, he already had one at 1PM." *** Here comes the part where I warn you against this place... I said to them "Okay, well where's he been for the past hour then?" The front desk girl replied "In a room drying off." After she must have sensed my disappointment she said "Our groomer left today at 2PM, so I think he was the last to get done." AKA your groomer was ready to get off work and just rushed him in, not caring at all what time he would be picked up. I said "Okay, well I told the front desk I would not be picking him up until 6PM, so where do you intend on keeping him until then?" The attendant of course took a huge pause and then said "Well, since he's clean now, I'm sure you wouldn't really want us to put him back into the daycare room, so I suppose he'll just be in his individual room until pick up." ARE YOU SERIOUS?? So their plan was to keep my dog (who I paid a full day of daycare for PLUS a bath) in a room by himself for 5 HOURS?! AND on top of that, when I went to pick him up (after I hung up the phone and had to leave work early) he came out once again, no bandana, and smelling like a wet dog. Needless to say, I exchanged a few words with the manager, she offered him a new bath which she gave to him personally, and we have never gone back. This place completely lacks customer service, attention to detail and CARE of your pet, and compassion for an upset customer. Keeping my dog in a room alone for 5 HOURS is UNACCEPTABLE and I will never return to this facility or give them any good review. Do Not Waste Your Time Here. read more

We love Camp Bow Wow Matthews. We recently moved back to Charlotte and needed a doggy daycare that was closer to our new apartment than the one we were previously using. This one is about 5 minutes away from us. Everyone at this location is super friendly and we love that we are able to watch the dogs on the webcam whenever we want during the day. They always come home happy and tired. The workers here are always very quick, efficient, and the location is great. It's tucked away in a little side street in a nice, quiet location. The hours are really great, especially the weekend hours! We have been to Camp Bow Wow Charlotte Metro in addition to CBW Matthews and much prefer this location. Camp Bow Wow is by far the best place to board your fur babies. We discovered them through the rescue organization we got our Dane from and immediately loved their facility. The dogs are not kept in a kennel or run all day, they are in a play area with other campers where they have inside and outside access. There are also pools for the warmer days. They also have someone in each area with the dogs for supervision. The best part is they have Camper Cams, so I can log in and see my puppies throughout the day....awesome and addictive :). They will also give your dog a kong treat at bed time...what great caring. They also offer grooming and if you dog needs alone time, there is a luxury suite that is very quiets and you can use the camper cam 24 hours to watch your fur baby sleep. The staff is extremely friendly and I just keep going on. Defiantely 5 stars!!!!! read more

When we got our Shepherd puppy and had to go away for about 12 days when he was 4 months old. I didn't know what to do but Camp bow Wow came tot he rescue. We got to watch him play from the Caymans and he had a blast. With White Shepherds it's important to socialize from an early age and Camp bow Wow made him the playfulist pup ever. read more

What a great place! I have a border collie so his energy level is over the top to say the least. After his time at camp he comes right home and sleeps. Now when we get close to Camp Bow Wow he gets super excited and is ready to go! The cameras also make it amazing! I can check on him when I'm at work and on days the weather is bad and I take him there I know when to go pick him up when I can see he is done playing and is tired. I left my dog Ginger when them 10/7/15 & when I picked her up on 10/15/15 around 6pm, they informed me she had been in a "small scuffle" with another dog that afternoon. No one knew what time it happened and when I got her home, her left side was bloody and turns out this small scuffle was with a Pit Bull. $250 later it's now Sunday and she's still bleeding from the bite wound from this "small scuffle". If something happens to your animal, don't let them intimidate you that "you signed an agreement". Their contract with you states they are supposed to seek medical attention when an animal is injured (which they did not) regardless of when they're being picked up, and they're supposed to remove an aggressive animal from day camp and they did not, so my dog basically bled from 3:30p until 6p but they were generous enough to offer up free day camp in return....that's a laugh as I wouldn't take a coyote there. Good luck leaving your dog at Camp Chow Wow...I hope it doesn't get in a "small scuffle" with this same dog or another as they do allow aggressive breeds given my experience. read more

Misleading and terrible service. I scheduled a bath for my 2 bernese Mountain dogs, and scheduler informed me that only rabies vaccine was needed, which we had our vet provide days in advance. Upon arrival, they informed me the bath could not be completed because we did not provide 2 additional vaccines...which they never requested after we had expressly asked them what vaccine information was needed. Regardless it was a bad experience, and all due to their lack of communication and poor misleading service. I understand the need to have proper vaccine information, but they need to work on informing their clients, and not creating a inconvenience. We will not be back. read more

Everyone is so friendly and although Bailey is a little nervous when I drop her off, everyone is so welcoming. When I watched Bailey on the webcams, the employee was petting her and kissed her. My husband said he has seen the same thing when he looked at the webcams. Great place. read more
