We have had bad experiences with boarding in the past, our dog just doesn't like being caged all day and gets very upset. We had found a local pet sitter, but on one trip she was not available the full time and we had to find another solution. An exhaustive search of area boarding facilities led us to the Dog Cabin. Yes, the dogs are in cages at night, but they are out for the majority of the day, playing in daycare. They provide beds and blankets for each dog and overall it seemed like the best boarding environment for our pup. He loved his overnight stay at Dog Cabin so much, that we now bring him back regularly for daycare. Their hours are great - 6:30 am - 6:30 pm, which is really great for working families. They also do grooming, which we have used on occasion, but the best part is, you can get a nail trim for $10 while at daycare. We love that as it saves us the separate trip to Petco that we had to do with our other daycare. They also have cameras in daycare, so you can peek in and see how things are going. The prices are great and they often run daycare package specials. They've stayed open during the pandemic (their normal hours), which has been immensely helpful for us to maintain some routine for our dog while we are working at home. Everyone is so nice, it's obvious they care about the dogs. And everything is so clean. Take your dog to the Dog Cabin, you won't be disappointed!! read more

We started bringing our 8 month old puppy to the Dog Cabin when we were getting renovations done in our condo. I filled out the application and set up a date to bring her in for her pre-screening. She did great and was told she's welcomed back anytime! You have the option of downloading the ODoggy app to view the dogs. I have taken a couple trips out of the state and trusted my little ones with the dog cabin AND have not been disappointed/worried/upset once. When I drop them off the receptionist has been so happy/excited to see them as well as when I pick them up. the groomer says they are one of the best, which, I mean , every puppy is the best!!!, I love just hearing it from someone that says hi to my little ones. We moved to West Hartford a year ago, we found this place to take care of our dogs.we are always worried about them because of their age. When we travel they take good care of them. The ladies working @the dog cabin are amazing, This is the dogs third visit, we are happy and grateful.we have two senior dogs Mrs. Cindy 19 years old & Oreo 16 years old. This is a new found gem for our family. We adopted a five month old mix breed dog a few months ago (August). In the beginning, he stayed home in the crate and we'd go to the public park after work. This is obviously the most cost effective option. But as the winter months start and day light dwindles, we have had more trouble getting him the exercise he needs. We entered him in a doggie day care in Glastonbury where we live. It was fine and he enjoyed it but it was the bare necessities and nothing else. Since I work in Middletown, we explored the option of having him go a few days a week near my job. Enter The Dog Cabin. It's within a few blocks of the North End of Main St and takes maybe an additional 5 minutes before work. As my dog has been to doggie day care before, I wasn't concerned about him doing well on the socialization day. I dropped him off and headed to work. I checked in on the web cams and saw that he was in a pen with smaller dogs. (He's 55 lbs at 8 months old).This was probably smart as there were about 20 large dogs in an adjacent fenced in play area. This way the other dogs could meet mine through the fence. When I checked back later he was in the large dog pen and doing great. For small dog parents who worry about this, it seems like they put the larger dogs in there temporarily to interact with the others through the fence. I've also seen injured dogs or older dogs in there also. The large dogs are distracted by the other large dogs and don't bother the little ones. I brought him back two days later and they recognized him! He wiggled his happy butt all the way into the play area. When I picked him up they raved about how much they love him and told me he was dog of the day on their Facebook page. The whole operation is clean and professional. They are clearly dog lovers! I appreciate the fast in and out in the morning and that he's not "just another dog". read more

Compared to other dog daycares in the area, this place is friendly and relaxed while still being professional and trustworthy. Customer service is excellent. Your dog's first day is free as it is considered their "trial" day--they must stay for at least 3 hours, but my dog was there for 11 hours before I went to get her. Can't beat getting that for free!! Dog seemed happy and is passed out at my feet as I type this. All around, an A plus! read more

I was very nervous to bring my boy for his first grooming here as I always am, naturally. I just always hate dropping him off for hours to be groomed while I have no idea what he's experiencing "behind the scenes". I can now say I will never bring my little boy anywhere else! I am in love with this place. They took the best care of my baby and he looked incredible. The groomer, Kelsey was super sweet and listened to our very specific grooming requests! He left happy, handsom, and with the cutest bow tie for Valentine's Day! I called weeks in advance for the appointment so he had the first one of the day and we told our groomer we wanted him back asap. We received a phone call for pickup 2 hours later! It's never less than 3-4 hours standard at all other groomers I've been to, so I truly could not be happier with the experience and cannot say enough good things about this business. The Dog Cabin rocks! We take our 9 month old rescue puppy here 2-3 times a week because we both work full time and sometimes long hours. Our dog loves being around people and other dogs and doggy daycare is the perfect way to make sure she's getting the care and stimulation she needs. I have moved away from the CT area within the past two years, but wanted to provide this review as I still have not been able to find a place that compares to the Dog Cabin! We used Dog Cabin for four years for daycare and boarding. I loved that they had an "audition" to make sure that the dogs were well suited to the free range concept. We've been sending our 14 year old dog to The Dog Cabin once a week for doggie daycare for the past ten years. Every Wednesday, she's pacing the hall waiting for her special day. We also board her a couple of times a year - anywhere from a weekend stay to a week. It's great to have a place to bring her and I don't feel badly about leaving her behind when we go away. We've since added a second dog to our family, and she loves to go as much as our older dog. read more

I haven't had any luck finding a decent grooming place for my little guy. I've gone through several and have never had a good experience. In fact, the last one, Petsense, seemed to have scarred him for life. God knows what happened behind those closed doors. I decided to give Dog Cabin a try, and I'm happy to say I think I've finally found the one! I dropped him off in the morning before work, and the guy at the front desk was very nice. Michelle was super friendly, and actually cared enough to hold a conversation with me to find out about my dog and made me feel comfortable. When I picked him up, she came out and introduced herself, even shook my hand. That alone gives me a good impression. I will definitely be taking him here from now on! read more

I have boarded my dog here in the past and have had positive experiences. However, last week not so much. Full disclosure, my sweet dog was 15. We knew we were living on borrowed time with her. I went to pick her up after a week at the kennel. When they brought her out to me she was filthy (from her incontinence), could not bear weight on her back legs, was having labored breathing and her eyes did not focus. Everyone at the kennel was as suprised as I was at her condition. The young women working the front desk were nothing but compassionate and kind. They carried her out to my car. I brought her straight to my vet. Sadly, we had to say goodbye that day. I do not blame this establishment for my dogs passing. She was 15. However, I called them a few days later and asked to speak to the owner. He was away on vacation. He was supposed to call me the next day at noon. I Have yet to hear from him. I would imagine that a patron picking up their dog and having to immediately euthanize them the same day is a rare occurance. It would have been nice to have him speak with his staff, get a better understanding of what occured that day and at the very least say he was sorry about my dog. Based on this, I will never recommend this kennel/daycare nor will I ever return. read more

My dog spent 9 days at the dog Cabin while we were on vacation. I was informed the day I returned that my dog was attacked but they had no idea what had happened. Beware that their contract states that there is constant supervision by our friendly certified pet care technicians; yet they had no idea what had happened. My dog boarded at the dog cabin in 2007 in which I signed a contract stating she could be socialized with smaller dogs. In subsequent years I stated she was too old and liked to be alone and slept a lot. I thought that they had written that into their computer. Beware again. I suggest that each time you bring your dog there you sign a new contract so that your rights are protected. The dog cabin knew my dog was sensitive yet this accident was aloud to take place and no one saw it. Amazing isn't it?
