We bring our dogs 1-2 times a week and they are both so excited to go every time. And they are exhausted when they get home, so they definitely get a lot of exercise and socialization. They have a big dog room and a little dog room. My dogs are a 35-40 lbs, so they started them out in the little dog room, but now they're in the big dog room and they do great there. My only critique is I wish their webcam was better when I peak in on my dogs, but I understand that a lot of that has to do with the website's performance and really isn't up to them. It's definitely not a deal breaker though and we never have any concerns about leaving our dogs with them. read more

Long story short: 10/10 highly recommend. I've had a wonderful experience here! Shannon and all the staff truly care about each dog and it shows. Short story long: We lost our super senior at the end of September and our little dog, Penne, was heartbroken. I never knew dogs could suffer from depression but Penne was showing all the signs. She was nervous, clingy, and eventually stopped eating. We were getting pretty concerned about how hard she was taking it and decided to try doggy day care so she could make some friends. I explained the situation to the staff and we did a temperament test, and while Penne was well behaved she was clearly very nervous and sad. The first day it was really hard to watch her on the doggy cam, but each day got a little better. I was so surprised at how many times I would log on to check on her and see a staff member playing with her or giving her love, just trying to get her to engage. When I would come pick her up they would give me updates on how she did and tips and tricks to help her. I felt like every staff member I talked to knew her situation and genuinely cared about helping her feel better. I talked to Shannon about Penne multiple times, and it always felt so familiar. They have a ton of dogs in there and yet they know my girl by name. Today is Penne's 6th day at the Dog Bark and I'm currently watching her chase a German shepherd who's about 5 times her size. Safe to say, our monster got her confidence back and is making friends with ease. Couldn't have gotten here without the help of Shannon and all the staff at the Dog Bark! read more

My dog was scheduled to stay the beginning of April. I dropped her off, for a few hours, a 2 times. When I picked her up the second time she was severely distraught, I thought I was gonna have to carry her into the house. For 7 days I just thought it had been too much stimulation for her and even arranged for her to spend most of her up coming stay in her "room". In the 8th day it was obvious something was wrong with her tail, she had an open sore and it was swollen. I had to take her to an urgent case vet to find she had been bitten and it was badly infected. I stopped by Dog Bark to see if they had any kind of insurance ( you don't know if you don't ask). No concern was expressed for my dog and I was told I sign a waiver and that was that. I don't have a problem with the waiver but I did expect the owner to want to review the The tapes to determine what Dog did it so that Dog wouldn't be allowed back. My dog was rescued, because she was attacked by a pit bull, and was given up. She's very meek and mild mannered. The absolute lack of empathy was very surprising and disappointing to me. I am not one to complain, but wished I would have read the available reviews about the Dog Bark in Salem Oregon before leaving my dog for the first time. After today's experience, I feel compelled to confirm another dog bite (my dog) and a business owner whose behavior was defensive and demeaning. She told me this "happens all the time" and just "wash with soap, water, cover with neomycin", and literally told me my dog did not need to see a vet. There was a 2 cm open area on my dog's side missing fur, skin and tissue. This was not a "scratch". When an accident happens, the responsible party can be professional, transparent and apologetic, and most of us would understand that situation. In this case, it felt like something had happened that she did not want to talk with me about. My questions were rebuffed. The lack of professionalism, lack of transparency, defensiveness and demeaning behavior of the DogBark owner means I would never recommend the DogBark nor will my dogs be returning. read more

My daughter works at The Dog Bark. She recently lost her dog, Bruce to a year long bout with medical issues. The Dog Bark obviously has such love, not only for our furry k9s but also for the owners of these dogs and their employees. They came together as a family to stand by and support my daughter both emotionally and financially. My daughter was given time off to grieve, the owner sent a HUGE bouquet of flowers and the employees launched a successful Go Fund Me campaign to cover the medical expenses and cremation. I have never seen a business come together like this and show that life (even business) is about the people. I take my cats in to get groomed here, service is very friendly and they always make sure I am happy with what needs done. If I wanted extra shaving they do it. No extra fees, super great for my main coon mix. They put him upfront away from the barking. I am very happy with the, service. The Dog Bark is wonderful. I see a lot of negative reviews here, and they seem to come from people that don't realize that a dog is an *animal*, and that things happen. Dogs play rough, and dogs get hurt. My pup, Willow had her ear nipped a little. She can be a brat, so I'm sure she was partly at fault, and I know ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. We still use The Dog Bark (when funds allow). We've only been to the North location once or twice, and usually go to South because of the convenience when going to/from work. Everything I've asked of Shannon and her staff has been accomplished. And if you want to know what is going on with your dog, you can check in via Web Cam, at all times. They even do a great job when Willow needs to go in for a bath and get her nails trimmed! I used to work at a Dog Daycare, for about 3 years, so I know how important and beneficial it can be. If you're a sensible human being and have the funds, daycare is a WONDERFUL treat for your pup. The Dog Bark is second to none here in Salem, and I plan to keep using them while I live in town. We were excited to check out The Dog bark not only for daycare but for boarding our dog while we are on vacation. We dropped our dog off for a few hours, when we picked our dog up he had a bloody paw. The attendant told us she didn't know how it had happened but she stated that our dog wasn't attacked. We took our dog to the vet and had a hefty bill. I called The Dog Bark and spoke with Shannon the owner, I just wanted to let her know what happened and to try an figure out how the dog was injured. Did he get his paw caught on something or in a fence? She was very matter of fact about the whole situation, she stated that the same thing just happened to another dog recently. She said that she was sorry if this was a deal breaker for me. No Shannon, that wasn't a deal breaker for me, after speaking to you and your lack of concern was the deal breaker. I am thankful this didn't happen while we were on vacation, our dog is on pain medication, antibiotics and has to wear a cone around his head. I'm taking Jackson, a Corgi Border Collie mix with an amazing amount of energy, there a few times a week for half-days of romping with other dogs. Hopefully this will keep the tail chasing at bay. :) We have two other older dogs at home and between that, walks and visits to the dog park a few times a week, it's still not enough. I did some research, then visited, and we did a temperament test with him first, and then a few days later did his first half-day of daycare. The staff are nice, work well with the animals, run a very tight ship, and everyone seemed to be having a ball. The online web cams are awesome (showing every square inch) and the info and reservation system are nice, too. Very pleased. My little pup stayed at The Dog Bark two weeks ago when I was in town visiting family. I wasn't sure what to expect, given the fact that I'm not familiar with the area. When I walked in everyone was very friendly and the small dog room looked like a lot of fun for the animals. I left Charlotte there for 2 days as I was off traveling to Portland with my family. It seemed as if she had a fabulous time and I loved the webcam feature! I made sure to check up on my little one as often as I could. We have brought our gentle 8 year old lab to The Dog Bark since we moved to Salem in 2018. Last week she was randomly bitten by another dog. The staff called and told us what happened and said we'll probably need to take her to the vet. We know that happens but we expected someone to call and follow up and check on her. When we called in ourselves the owner said she'd been out of town (ummm cell phones..?) and her attitude toward my husband and I was so very disrespectful. Goren loves his visits to The Dog Bark! He knows when his leash comes out in the morning where he is going and runs to the car. The staff recognizes him when he comes in even if its been a few weeks. Their prices are great, and there are a few package prices to choose from. After a visit to another dog daycare out of town, It is even more obvious how organized and clean The Dog Bark is. I appreciate that there are multiple cameras to check in and see how things are going. The best part is how worn out Goren is the rest of night after a hard day of play. After a week of being here, my dog was sick with giardia. After we got that cleared up and he returned, he got coccidia. Got that cleared up and returned and then there is a sign on the door about kennel cough and two days later he is coughing all night, even though he is vaccinated. I pay for a 10 day package and the next day they inform me he can't continue to come because he is 6 months old and not fixed. No warning, nothing. It had been a few months since I signed the agreement and didn't think about it. Refused refund, refused credit for baths, owner who is usually bright and cheery was suddenly cold and literally told me it's "not my problem" because there is a sign on the desk about no refunds. Yet they let me pay for 10 days and didn't warn me he couldn't come back until he was fixed, the NEXT day! My vet suggests waiting till he is a year old. Not going against the current science. Too many dogs there most of the time. My guy was going for half days and was super stressed leaving if he stayed more than 2 hours. Be warned, no refunds regardless of the reason and sweet owner turns on you quicker than any dog would. The o my reason I am giving 2 stars is because their rates and hours are reasonable and staff is wonderful. Owner is not. read more

My wife and I are disabled, so getting enough exercise for our young German Shepherd was a challenge. Then my wife found the Dog Bark. We have had a much more contented dog since we have started using their service. Shannon, Nicky, and the other staff are always attentive and helpful. Our Gracie can intuit which days we are going to take her, and is always excited to go. After her time there, she is happily tired and mellowed out. It is also a great place for grooming. A well scrubbed dog is a joy to be with. We find their prices to be very reasonable compared to similar services which we have looked in to. I see some negative reviews here, which are reminders that you just can't please some people. read more

While many people have had wonderful experiences here, I feel compelled to tell of my past experience. If you are wanting to get your dog groomed, I would recommend this place. On the other hand, if you are looking for doggie daycare you may want to go elsewhere. We gave them one chance and they lost our business. I was excited to try doggie day care for the day and had read glowing reviews. On arrival for pick-up an employee told me she that had fun playing with a laser light with my dog and my dog seemed to love it. While it may have seemed she was having fun and was really cute playing with the light, anyone who works closely with dogs should know this can lead to obsessions.... and it did. After this introduction, my dog now is obsessed with bird shadows and light reflections inside or outside the house. :( What was even worse was that my poor dog was running, jumping, and skidding so much, chasing the light on their special floors that most of the padding on her paws had skinned off. She could barely walk and I had to carry my 45 pound dog to the car. The responsible employee felt terrible and was apologetic but I still felt it was inexcusable! My dog's paw pads healed fine after several days but she could hardly walk during that time :( This incident happened about a year ago so hopefully practices have changed with the doggie daycare and the employees have been given more training and knowledge on dogs. read more

The people are so friendly and you can tell they really care about all of us whether we are hanging low in the little dog room, horsing around in the big dog room, or simply kicking it by the pool on those hot summer days. Better yet, my dad loves checking up on me throughout the day via the live video feed, as he is constantly reminding me of all the embarrassing things he catches me doing (dads...am I right?!). He also finds the rates incredibly reasonable, but I'm still not sure why he hasn't used the money he saves for chew toys. He really liked the workers and I even caught him laying on a workers lap at some point in the afternoon. This is the only daycare facility we will leave our dog. We've used others in the Portland area and have never been as satisfied as we've been with the Dog Bark. The fact that we can monitor our dog from afar 24/7 is the first thing that sets it apart from other day cares. We also love that our dog gets love and attention from the employees, as well as great social interaction with other dogs. Shannon and her staff are really professional and go above and beyond for the dogs & owners. We've had 3 birthday parties for our dog at both locations & that is definitely something special we appreciate Shannon and her staff for. I don't even want to write this review! I was so excited about all the 5-star ratings and I didn't get that. The price was more than reasonable, at $25. The staff was very friendly and my dog seemed happy when we left. She didn't really smell "clean" per se, as in, she didn't smell BAD anymore, but she didn't smell GOOD either. I'm wondering how long this neutrality will last...I just felt that I should've had them clip her nails and not spent more money for a bath that didn't seem to make much of a difference. I think they need to switch shampoos. It's definitely not a bad place to bring your dog, they treat animals with respect there. I just expected more because of all the great reviews. I'd love to support a local place really close to my house but next time I might take her elsewhere :( read more

This has to be the worse place in the world to take a dog. My husband and I were going to be out of state for a 8 days and we made reservations to board our 1 year old lab. Our dog is very friendly loving dog. He has lots of energy because he is a puppy. He has never shown any sign of aggression to another dog or person. We dropped him off on Thursday afternoon and we watch later and he was playing with dogs. He was kenneled the next time I checked and I called and was very nice and asked if something was wrong and was told no everything fine that our dog and another were both high energy dogs and they needed a break. I laughed and said it look like he was having a lot of fun. She said he was and he was just fine. Friday it was completely packed in there and I called again and was told that our dog was kenneled because he was aggressive and had we had him neutered. I said you have every bit of his paperwork he has. In fact I made sure before I brought him and had a confirmed email from Kara stating that everything was there. Our dog had stayed there before for 4 days. I told them that he is absolutely not aggressive and that if we go to dog parks or vets he plays with dogs and is very friendly. Then the guy suggested I come and get him. I asked if anyone ever look at paperwork or checked to see what instructions were because we were out of state me staying with my granddaughter and my husband in Pasco Washington working. He told me to figure it out. I then talked to owner Shannon and asked her if she found paperwork showing him neutered and she said she did and that our dog was let out of kennel. I told her that I was looking at camera and he was in kennel. She said she would go check and call me back. She assured me on Friday everything was great and to enjoy my trip. Saturday morning I get a call from our vet wanting me to know that the dog bark had called them a few minutes before and wanted to know if our dog was neutered. She told them yes but wanted me to know because they knew they had all paperwork. I called the dog bark and asked for Shannon and she wasn't back until Tuesday. I talked to Kara and she said the dog was aggressive and would be kenneled. I told her that I talked to Shannon and she said everything was fine just checking to see if neutered. I started to get really scared that they could hurt our dog and told her that. I said they were completely incompetent and don't even look at anything you bring to them. I told her that we got asked same question about him being neutered by 5 different staff members. Is anything computerized. I told her I would get ahold of my husband he would have to leave his job in Washington and come and get our dog. While I was still talking to Kara she hung up on me. My husband said when he got there Sunday that Finn looked horrible. He couldn't bark that he would start coughing and chocking. He had really hard time drinking and couldn't eat food. My husband brought him to Vet Monday morning and he had to have x-rays on his throat chest and hip because he was limping also. They have him on steroids for severe swelling on his tracheas. They think a choke collar or those grab collars dog catchers use was used on him. The vet bill was over 800 hundred dollars. Calling Shannon today she told me she would refund our money but she didn't like that I had been rude on phone to her people. She put me on hold when I was talking to her. She said that even though our dog was fine while she was there that her boarding facility isn't a dog park or vets office. Even if he was friendly and never had problems their that a boarding place like theirs can cause it. I agree completely if a dog is abused it can cause a lot of problems. Run as fast as you can from this. Update Thursday February 21st another trip to vet first one on the 18th of February we have now spent over 1200.00 dollars. Blood test today show blood in his stomach. The trachea is still hour glass with lots of swelling. Stress doesn't cause this. Our dog is part of our family and we don't want another family to go through this. Never did get refund from Shannon though we paid for 8 days and he was there for 3 1/2. I have found that they lie about a lot there. I was supposed to be very rude but I talked to Anna and Shannon along with Damien and no problems. Talked to Kara and she was sarcastic rude and hung up on me when I questioned her why she would call our vet when she was the one I gave all paperwork to. The rudeness I encountered with Shannon when I called to talk to her Monday after my husband brought our dog to vet was not what I would expect from an owner who was proud of business. All I can say is please be careful with you loved pets. read more
