I had a really bad experience here with a cut I didn't not ask for. I asked for a long cut with lots of layers and got a single length lob (which is cute but NOT WHAT I WANTED). I asked her to cut off 3 inches from waist length hair and she cut 6. I'm miserable. I left crying and the clueless receptionist waved "have a great day!" My experience getting my hair done at Emily J Aveda was awful. And when they tried to make it better I left with an even worse outcome. Without informing me they put bleach in my hair which is not okay. Their colorist had a lack of experience but charges a high cost. When I went to remedy my hair at another salon they shared with me how bad this salon traumatized my hair. I had a terrible experience here and would never go back. If you're on the fence about going, please save your money and whatever you do, don't go here. They gave me a bad color that I didn't ask for and overcharged me, over double the price discussed. I asked about the price and they admitted to the mistake on their end, but refused to do anything about it. On top of that, my stylist Ryn, was rude, dismissive, and spoke negatively of the clients. After the entire experience, I regretted choosing this salon and wish I never went. I had to go to another salon the next day to fix the bad color they gave me and after looking at it, the color corrector said they had traumatized my hair. I would never go back here again. They don't actually care about their clients or what the client is asking for when they go in, and then try to position it as the client's fault when they mess it up and then overcharge you. If you want a cheap salon that lies to you this is the place to go! I have been a loyal Emily J Aveda customer for a year now. Please know that this review has nothing to do with the stylist (Lexyy) who has been cutting my hair--she is wonderful! This review has to do with the HORRIBLE management that runs the salon. I went to an Aveda salon in Florida (where I used to live), and it was always a lovely experience. My experience at Emily J Aveda has been the complete opposite! This salon is not nice, the receptionists are new every time I come in and can never figure out how to use the computer system and always try to overcharge me, and the owner (Emily J) needs to learn what customer service is. After my first few haircuts I noticed that none of the times I went to Aveda did they offer me any of their complimentary services that are listed on their website. I called and complained about this, and they offered me a free haircut. Since that time (8 months ago) I have NEVER been offered a premium drink like it says on their website, and I have NEVER been offered one of their complementary services that is also listed on their website. I cannot understand why this salon would blatantly lie about giving their customers something that they do not. Even after speaking to the manager again about this she still did nothing to make sure that I received one of these services. I would never return to this salon, and I would highly advise anyone who is thinking about getting their haircut here to go elsewhere. I will be happy to give my money to another salon that actually knows how to treat their customers well. I have been getting my haircut from Emily J for almost three years now and I always leave with a good experience. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very well organized. The salon has a HUGE video wall and sound system that's quite entertaining. You can even watch it from the upstairs loft! I routinely see Lexyy and would highly recommend her for a sharp men's cut. I usually get a fade and leave it longer on top, but I trust her to experiment sometimes. I've seen her color work online and it looks great too! I wanted to like this place so badly. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the service, I had Paul and he was awesome! He was attentive and really knew how to make my hair look great. But unfortunately it only looked great for about an hour after I left. I'd mentioned when he was doing my hair that I have very fine, but thick hair that doesn't hold a curl well so that a blowout would be better than drying and curling it. He seemed confident in what he was doing so I didn't question it when he dried it all the way and curled my hair - and it looked great when I left! But it fell apart and flattened out about an hour later and I was back to my normal hair. Overall, it's a really great place and the staff are super friendly and really know their stuff. A little on the pricey side, but definitely would've been worth it if my hair had held. read more

My visit to aveda included a hair cut and balayage. I got the master 1 level too so it came out to around $250 with tip and everything. I am a bit disappointed with what I got given what I paid. It has only been about two weeks but my hair already started signs of brassiness in the first week or so (I specifically said I wanted a cool grey toned balayage). It is also now extremely dry and damaged. I keep finding myself having to deep condition every other day because my hair looks like hay now. read more

I had to switch from my old salon for a random personal reason, and knew I wanted to stay loyal to Aveda because their products have literally changed the texture and health of my hair just over a few months. Someone suggested Emily J, and on a whim I came for a wash and trim... Now I'm a loyal customer! I have been super pleased with Cyrus' work. Beyond that, this location is super convenient with tons of parking in a deck across the street. It's always very clean (and smells great, duh, it's AVEDA). Service is just lovely. My experience at Emily J Aveda was atrocious from start to finish. The haircut was awful, and the stylist acted very inappropriately. The part that really bothers me, however, is that they overcharged me! I confronted them about the incorrect charge, and they admitted that they made a mistake, yet they refused to refund or offer anything. Emily out-performs any stylist you find at a dry bar, van Michaels, etc. and as an Aveda salon, the color products aren't as harsh on my hair. I have pretty fine hair so using better quality products is a must, and Emily's balayage skills are on point. Also, I typically don't have to give much description at all. A photo for reference helps, but she usually adapts to your hair texture, length, and your face to give you a hairstyle that really suits you. It can be the simplest hair style - shoulder length with some layers for instance - but she will make sure every strand is accounted for from all angles. I started getting my hair done with her almost 7 years ago all the way in Duluth but now I can drive 10 mins to Emory Village to get my hair done. read more

Paul fixed my color and haircut and did a great job ...here's the story. I had been going to the same stylist for several years. She seems to have lost her passion for hair because recently I've had a couple of sloppy cuts and color that didn't last. A week ago, I got a bad cut AND color that didn't last. My stylist told me she couldn't control how color deposits on a client's hair. My daughter recently got a good cut at Emily J, so I called fora consultation. Paul worked me in for color and to fix my cut over 2 days. He took great care to listen to what I wanted, and gave me good advice about what would work for me. I wanted to take my hair from a balayage blonde to an all over, bright blonde, but through highlights. I went to Cyrus to get my hair done, and I was very happy with the results! I had to come back in to get the level of blonde I was looking for, but he did this for me free of charge. He also did a great hair cut, giving my fine straight hair just the right amount of bounce. Did a walk-in on Friday afternoon... the only available stylist was a "master" stylist. Told them what I wanted.... snip snip blow dry snip some bangs and done. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I made an appointment for Tuesday, but decided on Sunday I wanted to cancel. The salon is closed Sunday and Monday, so I tried calling Tuesday morning-no answer. I called again and the rudest woman picked up the phone. She said I would have to be charged a cancellation fee, which I would have done. I explained that I called this morning and nobody picked up, to which she replied "it's the same day so it doesn't matter". Fair, so I explained that Sunday and Monday they were closed so I couldn't call and there's no way to cancel online, and she said "Well we have answering machines" and that she called me on Saturday to confirm and left a voicemail-she did not. She said she would "let it slide" this time but next time I would have to place a deposit--THIS TIME I DIDN'T EVEN PUT MY CARD DOWN. Let me assure you, there will not be a next time. What an amazing place! I was visiting from California and needed somewhere to get Balyage for a good price. They fit me in the same day. My hair was super dark so they had a lot of work to do, the outcome was beautiful. The girls were so sweet and nice! Arie and Emily. LOVE! Everyone at this salon, was exceptionally great. It's definitely nice seeing my people (South Koreans) doing it, ITP. My hairstylist, Yana (sp?) was extremely informative and thorough with explaining the hair coloring process with me. I came into the salon with a crazy color in mind, but she was able to politely convince me that my expectations were a bit farfetched, especially for the first go-around. I'm a pretty stubborn person, but I felt that she had my best interest at heart and immediately obtained my trust. It's definitely nice seeing all of the hairstylists work in unison. A lot of teamwork here...how it's supposed to be! An interesting thing about this place is that the floor plan is grand and open. I learned that the salon doubles as a party/meeting/event venue. I did not get a chance to tour the upper level, but maybe I will get to see it next month. I'm going back to the salon to lighten up the ends of my hair. I would first like to say that the two stars do not have anything to do with the friendliness of the staff. I found the staff kind, professional, and accommodating. However, I am giving this salon two stars because of the quality of my cut and color especially when compared to the price. I asked for a shoulder length haircut with the ends dyed rose gold. The total cost for everything was around $350. The total would have been a little less except they charged me $20 extra for having thick hair (which I guess some salons do, but it is especially annoying for people who were born with thick hair.) My haircut and color was done by the top (I forgot the official title) stylist. I realize that fashion colors are quite challenging, however my stylist told me that she had already dyed two different customer's hair that color this week, so I expected it to look a lot more like rose gold than it did. For about an hour after the salon my hair was close to rose gold, but my color quickly turned out to be a kind of orange/red vaguely pink color. This color completely washed out about a week and half after the initial appointment. If it was just the color that was off perhaps I would have given this salon more stars, but it was in combination with an unflattering haircut that was really disappointing. I expressed to my hair stylist that my face is quite round, so it is important to me that my haircut does not emphasize this shape. I really had a great time talking to my stylist and she was so kind, yet the haircut was just not flattering. Perhaps she was not equipped to deal with thick hair (which is why I was charged extra and the haircut was disappointing), but I really would have appreciated being directed to someone who could deal with thick hair so I could end up with a more decent cut. I recently had my hair cut again at a different salon, and they were able to reshape my hair to appear more flattering. At the same time that I received my haircut and color my friend also asked for her hair ends to be dyed silver. She has naturally black hair and when she left the salon her ends still looked black and not silver. Her stylist told her that the black would wash out into silver over the next couple of days. One week later, my friend found one single grey hair in a mix of black. They offered to re do her hair color for free but my friend declined the offer because she honestly did not think it was worth it. My friend paid around $250 to have her hair look the exact same as when she walked in. Overall, my experience at this salon was definitely not horrible by any means, but it was certainly not worth it. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for Friday that I talked with one of their front desk staff on the phone to book. A lady from the front desk called back an hour before my appointment on Friday was set to start and left me a voicemail telling me their stylist wasn't feeling well and asking if I could switch to an appointment today, Saturday. I immediately called back and said I understood and no worries, and was offered an appointment for either 11 or 12 the following day (today). I confirmed that noon worked better and they told me I was booked and good to go. I drove 35 minutes from OTP to the salon to get my hair done today and paid $8 for their parking and they hadn't even booked me and simply were like "sorry we never put you on the schedule for today." Literally no way to run a business and zero professionalism in cancelling my 2 appointments in a row, the second of which I had showed up on time for. Should've offered me some kind of discount or squeezed me into the schedule. SMH never coming back here. read more

I was a little hesitant going in to get a wave perm because I have thin hair and I haven't met a hairstylist that really knows how to do a wave perm for my hair. However, Emily J did an amazing job! I love my hair and the curls were intact. She also recommended a hair product for curly hair and the product is awesome! It keeps my curls in and my hair shiny and soft. I would recommend calling and setting an appointment. I went in during a weekday in the afternoon, and there were constant customers. The place is easy to find, it's a few stores down from Earth Fare, grocery store and they have free parking in the parking garage up to three hours. I stumbled upon this little gem when Sassoon salon at Lenox decided to break my heart and leave. Emily J Aveda squeezed me in last minute and were so good to me. The entire staff is so attentive and considerate and probably gave me 30 cups of complimentary coffee during my two appointments. Lexi (gee I hope I spelled her name right) was the sweetest and most relaxed stylist I've ever met. She listened to what I wanted and delivered exactly what I wanted. Lexi took me from a sad brown to a sparkling lemon and bless that sweet girl she was so patient with my stubborn locks. I'm very picky about my hair and who handles it and safe to say I trust Lexi with my hair from root to tip. read more

I've visited hair salons all over the world and I have never met ruder staff members. My cousin accompanied me, hoping that we could get a hair cut together - we received condescending once-overs before being told that they were fully booked for the day. Looking into the salon, however, it was dead silent. Before leaving the salon, one of the staff members told us that they were the only salon open for that day; either he was dumb or just trying to act superior as a quick check online brought up several salons still open and with better reviews. Also, I've lived in the area for over two years and every time I walk by the salon, it's either closed at hours when it should have been open or empty. I really hope this place closes soon, good riddance to all those working there. read more

I visited the salon to see Meredith. I've followed Meredith to a few salons in Atlanta. She's that good! Salon is beautiful and very high end. As another yelper mentioned, it's definitely on par with NYC. A separate retail section is filled with Aveda hair and skincare products. Emily J Aveda Salons have the most talented stylists in all of GA. I have worked with many of their stylists and they all do a great job with ALL cuts, color, perms and wedding make up. The salon director Emily did a BEAUTIFUL job on my make up the day of my wedding. I would definitely recommend her! I have been to numerous of salons and this is far the best. My next venture will be to get their beautiful hair extensions put in. They even have a coffee and beverage bar upstairs to lounge while waiting! read more

We used to live on Atlanta, but now only visit frequently. When we visit this is the place my wife and I go to for our haircut and my wife's color needs. We love all the staff, they are so friendly and responsive to all our demand however needy we may be. The amenities are added bonus. The atmosphere is entertaining and relaxing, specially upstairs in the mezzanine lounge. Nine giant TV screens create a feeling of a theater experience. We highly recommend both the service and the facilities. It is both modern and over the top upscale. Access and parking are easy as well. read more

This is by far the worst salon I have ever been to. I recently came in for a haircut and I showed a picture of myself from when I had shorter hair and said I would like to get the same cut again. The hairstylist, Cyrus, and I agreed upon cutting it to collarbone length. He then proceeded to cut my hair much above my collarbone and now I have such short hair that looks so bad I feel embarrassed going out in public. My point is if you do end up going to this salon (which you really shouldn't) and getting Cyrus as your stylist, I would HIGHLY recommend asking him to show you first how much he is going to take off because he just straight up cut 5+ inches off my hair and by then the damage was already done. Not only is it not what I asked for but it's just a terrible cut honestly. Also be aware that the manager, April, is VERY rude! When I complained about my hair she was so rude and said "we can't give you a refund since a service was delivered." This is NOT what I asked for so I shouldn't have to pay for a service I didn't want. She then goes "guess it was a miscommunication between you and your stylist." Maybe if my stylist COMMUNICATED with me as to what he was going to do this wouldn't have happened. As a manager April really needs to be more understanding of her customer's experiences instead of being condescending. With such poor management and uncommunicative hairstylists I won't be surprised if they go out of business soon...... read more

This is about the salon in general not the staff and I'd say 2.5 stars if possible. I was asked to review the salon the last time I was in and I am happy to do it b/c I love Lexxy. So I got onto the website for the salon to see what they post about themselves and I was very surprised to read about their complementary services. I've been coming here every 6 weeks for over a year and I have never ever once been given or offered a complementary service. I have also never been told about the membership program which looks like it has some perks. Disappointing to not have been told about that and really surprised that there is a whole page about the complementary service which I've never heard about in the salon. It's a very modern salon which you are either going to like or not. The color bar is really just a granite counter top with a normal salon chair. Not overly comfortable and it's almost impossible to watch the wall of TVs because they are too high. It's the most un-Aveda salon I have ever been to. Have had tea several times which has not been the yummy Aveda tea; just a tea bag. Never get Pure Privilege point unless I print off a special offer and they always have to ask for my membership #. Lexxy - 5 stars for her. She is very easy to work with. Takes her time, asks questions, and she is meticulous when coloring. I have not been this happy with my hair in a very long time and despite my 'eh' about the salon, I will keep coming to see Lexxy. read more

Honestly everyone at the salon was super nice but that doesn't cut it when you're dropping over 400 dollars to get your hair colored. Not only is my hair super damaged but I did not even get the color I asked for. I'm upset that I dropped so much money to get my hair done and I came out with my hair looking worse than before. I'm scared to go back because I know they won't be able to fix it. I went with my friend and her case wasn't any different. If anything it was worse. Her hair started melting off during the third process of bleaching. If you have black hair or dark hair I recommend not to go to this place. They did not lift my hair correctly. And they did not do a good job at all. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more
