OK, so this is confusing - there are 2 pages on Yelp that are for The Dez, and there are indeed two locations, but it seems like people are just reviewing wherever they are reviewing for either location (they are like, steps from each other). ANYWAY. We have been here a couple of times - will usually stop by here when we're in Joshua Tree. On Saturdays, there is a Farmer's Market in the parking lot, so it gets pretty crowded. This last time we went, I got an iced strawberry matcha, and my partner got the chai iced tea. Both with almond milk. They still charge a surplus for non-dairy, which feels so 2022. But anyway. The drinks were delicious. We also got an almond croissant, which doesn't look like much, but it was AMAZING. And then the quiches. Oh, the quiches. I had such high hopes for these, especially since we were primed with refreshing drinks and a tasty pastry. These quiches are muffin-sized, perfect for a light meal or a heavier snack, and they look super cute. They will heat them up for you. When we went, they had bacon cheddar and spinach feta. We got one of each. My friends, these were so disappointing. First, no flavor. We asked for ketchup or hot sauce to give it a bit of acid, because it was basically egg all the way through. Solid wall of egg that tasted like the powdered egg you get at one of those corporate conference catered breakfasts. I had one tiny sliver of bacon in mine, and my partner was playing hide and seek with the spinach, and the spinach was winning. The crust itself was rubbery and chewy, not flaky like I would expect a quiche to be. I mean, it was palatable and not super expensive. I'm just not sure if you're selling food, you want it to just be "palatable". Last time, we got a savory veggie pie, and that was pretty good, so they DO have good savory foods. I think the quiches were just a huge miss this time. Bathroom is clean and single-stalled. Parking is easy in the lot, and on Farmer's Market days, I mean, c'mon, it's Joshua Tree, it's not like there isn't space on the streets too. read more

Wasn't sure if the Dez was referring to the desert and the many treasures associated with a hot, an empty desert, or if it was referring to desert. And my mind melted cheese is quite a dessert and I can appreciate it and eat it after a full meal. BLTs are my favorite sandwich, and they do a really good version. The bacon is cut/crumbled into smaller chunks, which gives the sandwich the most delightful crunch. The sourdough bread is rustic and yummy. I would have preferred crisp lettuce vs spring mix and juicier tomatoes (but I get that they are way out of season, so not their fault!) My husband loved his mesquite turkey toastie. Had a Reuben-ish quality with the melted cheese. There are a ton of fun specialty food options and Stumptown coffee to boot. The Dez is a fun little place to visit while you're in Joshua Tree. This place has tons of snacks and everything you'd need for a little charcuterie board or sweets after a day of hiking or sight seeing. It's also a good place to get gifts or souvenirs. There are apparently two Dez's and I believe this is the bigger one. I came in for coffee and a quick snack. I got a vanilla latte and a spinach and cheese quiche. Service was friendly and fast. Delicious, healthy food and warm service (4/5 Green Stars) I would definitely come here again and recommend trying it out for a meal or camping/hiking provisions. I had the Hummus & Lentil (V) - seasoned lentils tossed with lemon vinaigrette, baby lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes & red onion served on pita bread. I recommend eating it all together on the pita rather than deconstructing it with your fork, by the way! I also had the vegan sausage roll and thought it was excellent. And I know sausage rolls - they are one of my all-time favorite foods. The Beyond Meat sausage was combined with delicious pastry that was slightly spicy - I think they used Hot Italian sausages. Came here for a quick breakfast before leaving JT. This is one of two spots called the Dez and this one serves meals as well as has seating vs the other spot which is primarily take away. We did come later around brunch time, approx 11:30 am and this place was super crowded. There is very limited outdoor seating and minimal indoor seating. Please be aware that dogs are permitted inside the cafe if you have allergies. Rock Climbers Brekky 4.5/5, this was a warm sandwich and very filling! They were able to put my bacon on the side as I don't eat pork so I was able to give this to my friend :) this definitely took some time to prepare though, expect about 20-25 minutes read more

It's really small inside but they somehow have SO much stuff--lots of gourmet salsas, chocolates, ice cream, and other food items you can purchase to go or as gifts and plenty of ready made meals. There's also some savory pastries and desserts behind the cashier that I didn't try but they looked delicious. They also have a decent sized menu of hot and cold sandwiches. I got a bbq beef panini and omggg it was the perfect bite to have right before I left to go back on the road. Very tender meat, crispy bread, and just the right amount of sauce. The sandwich also came with some chips. They also have an amazing date shake that you can get with different types of milk but the cashier recommended oat milk and I do not regret that choice bcuz the drink was SOOO creamy. Came here for brunch. I was already craving sandwiches so this was perfect. There is indoor seating and a bit of extra seating in the front patio. Menu is small but all the sandwiches sound really appetizing. While we were browsing through the menu, there was a patron that was ordering and out of nowhere fell to the ground, unresponsive. The entire restaurant went still, but the staff there quickly rushed to her and made sure she wasn't hurt and called emergency assistance. The woman eventually came to and the paramedics came to check her out. These types of situations are difficult and no one really knows what they would do in the moment. I applaud the staff for springing into action and for staying calm. After the commotion, the restaurant, still in shock, slowly went back to normal. I placed an order for the Roasted Turkey Breast sandwich. It came with a chipotle aioli, bacon, white cheddar, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich came with a side of chips. I was not prepared for how big this sandwich was! I ate half and saved the other half for later. The sandwich was really delicious, fresh, and light. The bread was perfectly toasted. I can be picky with sandwiches, but I would definitely come back and try everything on their menu. Prices were reasonable as well. ok first off LOVE THE VIBE here! very welcoming, fun and lots of little goodies to buy. the service was sooooooo helpful by giving recommendations or helping you understand the menu. The coffees are really good there. I got a vanilla latte and my brother got a cold brew both very delicious. Very simple. The food is incredible. This is a relatively new location for the business and they have a full-size kitchen, which allows them to create really good, tasty food, but you don't have to wait forever to get it! I got the grilled cheese on the first day and added avocado and bacon. Delicious! My brother got the roasted turkey sandwich which was so good that we went back the next day and I got the roasted turkey sandwich and he got lox on a toastie. During our one-night camping trip at Jumbo Rocks in Joshua Tree National Park, we decided to skip packing all our cooking supplies. A quick Yelp search for sandwich spots with good reviews led us straight to Dez Fine Food, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation! They have two convenient locations, just a few doors apart. One specializes in warm sandwiches, which is perfect if that's what you're in the mood for, and it's also where you'll find the restroom. I was expecting slim pickings from Joshua Tree's restaurant scene given its more remote location but was pleasantly surprised by my meal at Dez. It's worth noting that there are a few locations (one is a takeout-only style place while we ate at the larger location ~30 seconds next door). Note that the menus are slightly different in each so I'd recommend walking over to the larger place unless you are solely looking for takeout. The line can be a little longer but moves quickly and staff are friendly and upbeat. There are ~6-8 indoor tables and a handful of other outdoor tables but we were able to take a seat (you'll receive a number with your order if you dine-in) pretty easily. The sandwiches are large and flavorful and the mesquite BBQ was filling (albeit a little on the heavier side as you'd expect). Great place to stop by on the way or after a hike through Joshua Tree and centrally located near all the other main shops (e.g. Joshua Tree Coffee Company and near the Farmer's Market). read more
